Network Error Times Out: -1001

Hello: I am running an iMac G5 using Mac OS X Version 10.4. When I use my Software Update in my System Preferences to checck for new updates, I find them fine. When I tried to update my OS X, it will start to download, and then half way through the process, i get the error message, "Network Error Timed Out: -1001." It asks me to check my internet connection and then retry. I am using my airport express, and I reset it. I connect just fine to the internet and was able to download several other updates. The only time I have this problem is when I try to download 10.4.7. I researched similar issues, and they were not helpful. Anyone have the same problem and resolvedd it? Please help!!! Thanks.

Hi, m.
1. See "Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X."
2. Trash the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file in your Home > Library > Preferences folder.
FYI: Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
Good luck!

Im trying to updat my iphone to new software and keep getting a error msg saying network connection times out. Plz help!!!!

    Thank you for the reply.
Yes, this error message is in regard to my MacBook Pro.  The reason it's filed here under iPhone is because the error message appeared again when I tried to updae iOS, again (and I wasn't allowed to because I need more room on my Startupdisk), so I simply clicked on the link taking me here to Apple Communities.   And yes I have already empited my trash (I did this each time I cleared old docs off my compuer, so this wasn't a solution for today).
Might you have any other ideas?   I am really at a loss......
Also, where is the Startup disk located?  I can't find any folder labeled "startup disk".   Am I supposed to find this folder and delete files from it?

Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Then restart the device and try again.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

  • I get error time out connection

i want to upgrade my ipad 1 software (i have 4.2.1 version and i want to upgrade it to a next version, as Itunes store suggests me every time i open it) but after the usual time of 13 minutes upgrade, i get this error: time out connection, contact your provider or control your connection (but it does function elsewhere)
how can i solve it? (excuse my bad english)

For me it worked when I switched the virus protection off while doing the installation. After you run the installation you then switch the virus protection back on.
Hope it works for you too!

  • HT4528 network connection time out

Whenever i am trying to sync applications from latop to iphone i am getting the message. Network connection time out.

Not sure if this will help or not... but is the iPhone and your laptop on the same wireless network when you try this? Does that wireless network have a good connection?
If nothing else works... try hard-syncing (plugging in) your iPhone to your laptop, and then start up iTunes.
I hope this helps... let me know if it does/doesn't!

When I tried to use my saved credit card, I made an error & it didn't work. Now, although the error is corrected, I keep getting a message that the card is declined. Can I fix this, or will the error time out?

    Hello KGDJ,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When there is a mismatch between the iTunes Store's records and your credit card company's records, you will receive an error message
For more information on this, take a look at:
iTunes Store: My credit card's security code or zip code does not match my bank's records
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1646
If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Why does my network connection time out when downloading iphone 4 software update?

Why does my network connection time out when trying to download iphone4 software update?

I'm having the same problem too. I cannot sync or update over wireless or wired connections ever since I installed the most recent iTunes update. iTunes goes through the complete OS 5.0.1 download only to tell me the connection has timed out just when it seems ready to install. I've since reinstalled iTunes, I've ejected and done hard restarts on both my problem devices. I've disabled anti-virus, anti-malware, and firewall. No change in outcome except that, after doing all this, my final attempt to simply sync my 1st Gen iPad led to iTunes crashing and being automatically closed by windows just before finishing the final step. Is this a cruel joke, because I'm certain I can hear iTunes laughing at me for wasting so much time on this.

  • Error timed out: (-1001) during Software Update

Hello All, I am a relatively new mac user, and I am trying to sort out the one major issue I've been having. I received this computer from a publishing company that was decommissioning them, and I do not know much about it. What I do know is that is sat for a long time, unused and not updated. Here are the specs off hand:
    PowerBook G4
1 gig of RAM (extra stick of 512 added somewhere along the line)
    40GB HDD, roughly 17GB free
    Running 10.4.9
    My problem is as follows:
When I go to "Software Update" under the Apple icon, it starts to look for updates, but always times out and gives the the error (-1001). It tells me that there is a network problem and that I have no connectivity. I use the Network Diag tool, but it tells me everything is in order. I know everything is in order because I can access the internet, as I am typing this from the machine in question. I manually updated the OS all the way from 10.4.3, in hopes that it would resolve my updating problem, but it has not.
Any input or resolutions would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time.
    PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi kalvinr11, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
While error -1001 is often 'server down' I just checked SU and it went thru for me. You might try again w fingers crossed.
How are you connected to the internet, adsl or dial up? Who is your ISP? That info may be helpful when someone more vast, see below, chimes in.

  • Update time out -1001

hi im in australia and im trying to update my Osx. i get the sorry timeout error -1001 message everytime. can anybody help me?

I agree - 3G is just a bit slower in term of packet round-trip times. What is amazing that I have no issues whatsoever on Firefox even with the biggest files. I suspect that they have a higher time out setting for a server response.
My question would be: what timeout do I need to change? And how can I change it?
    Thanks for your help!

iTunes has never successfully accessed iTunes store.

After an upgrade, that profile is commonly du to firewall blocking.
Do you have any other firewalls even if you are not using them?
Have you ever had Norton even if you have uninstalled it? Norton is commonly preloaded on new PCs.
An old Norton can block iTunes if it has been uninstalled.
Are you using an administrator account? iTunes doesn't seem to think you are. It should not be a problem running from a limited user account. That is what I do except when I am installing programs.
Normally TLS 1.0 would be enabled, but I don't think this is the cause of the problem. It can be enabled from Internet Options>>Advanced tab.

  • Error time out to connect FTP server

    Hi Experts,
I am getting the error in receiver communication channel (FTP) as :
An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server ''. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: The control connection to the FTP server ""  timed out while reading the server reply.'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
Getting this error for a particular interface. Changed the time out parameter but not working.
the same IP address is used for same receiver but different interface and it is in green status.
tried to restart the adapter but same time out error.
Same configuation is done for two receiver channels .. but getting above error for a particular interface. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Swapnashree

    Hi Swapna,
If you are facing problem with only one interface then you make some dummy changes in configuration(ID) to that perticular channel and activate.
After doing this you just restart your communication channel and check if you have any luck.....
Also check if you have permissions ......for the user and folder which you are accing in your channel...
    Naveen.
