Network Extender - Losing Concurrent Connections to DROID?

Would having a DROID or Blackberry device that is turned on eat up one of my three concurrent Network Extender connections, even if the DROID is not calling someone, but it's data connection is active?

When using the Network Extender, it keeps a connection active on your phone, regardless if you are not receiving a call. The Network Extender uses one of your connections for staying in a ready mode to receive a call should one come in. The Network Extender will also use data for any applications or emails that you have setup on your device.  For more information about the Network Extender, please visit the link below:

  • AppleTV on network extended by AEX: Connecting to AEBS, not extension?

    Hi all.
In troubleshooting another problem, I noticed that my AppleTV has a signal of "-77" (viewing in Airport Utility), but I have an Airport Express setup as a wireless network extender and it's signal strength is "-24".
Does that mean my Apple TV is connected directly to the router instead of connecting to the network via the extender?
The router (AEBS) is down in the rec room, and the AppleTV is upstairs. This looks liek the kind of signal I would expect between those two at that distance WITHOUT an extender. The extender can't be more that 30 feet from the AppleTV.
How can I tell if the AppleTV is connecting to the router directly or through the extender?

For reference, your "Snow" base station has a 10 Mbps WAN port and a 10/100 Mbps LAN port; the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) has both 1000 Mbps WAN & LAN ports.
If your cable modem is only equipped with a 10 Mbps Ethernet port, then it won't really matter which base station is upstream from the other, however, if it has a 10/100 Mbps or better port, then it would be advantageous to place the Snow downstream of the AEBSn for wired clients.

  • Network Extender quit working

I am not sure if this the right community or not but my son-in-Law's Samsung Network Extender has quit working and we can't get it working. We have reset the power several times. The Sys light just blinks red and the GPS light is solid red.mthis used to work and nothing we know of has changed. I have googled this and spent hours looking for help. I just can't find anything. The device is getting an IP address from the router. I have tried connecting to it with a browser but it must not have any mgmt utility built in. How do we figure this? Without this device, they have no phone at home.

Hello Kentinada! Sorry about the Network Extender. According to the manufacturer, the solid red light you see on GPS means that the internal antenna may not be able to detect a GPSsignal and installation ofthe external GPS antennamight be necessary. If  you'd rather not try that first, I have some suggestions. If you haven't done so already, please try these steps:
Make sure that the Network Extender is correcly connected to the router. Disconnect the ethernet cable from the Network Extender to the router. Power cycle your Network Extender and your router, then reconnect the ethernet cable to the router.
Troubleshoot your router. Try connecting your Network Extender with a different ethernet port on your router. If possible, try the Network Extender with a different router.
If you've tried these steps and the issue isn't resolved, let me know.

  • Droid X not connecting to my Network extender

I have a Droid X and just got a Verizon network extender, because of poor signal in my house. I setup the network extender and have 4 blue lights on it. The network extender shows up in "my verizon", but my Droid X will not connect to it. I did *228 and still nothing. I call #48 and I get message #206 your call can not be completed at this time. I have rebooted the phone, computer and still nothing. I called tech support and had a 40 minute wait and gave up. Any ideas???   Craig

Same here. I'll give you my whole story, and you can decide what to do.
First, are you a former alltel customer?  If so, that's the problem.  You probably still have your alltel plan, and your plan determines which PRL you get.  The vzw uses the PRL to determine who uses it and who doesn't.  So the first line of customer support (yes, you'll have to call them) will want you to move to a vzw plan.  If you want to do that, fine, but I didn't.  I read online that this was the likely problem, and their local vzw retailer fixed it for them.  For me, they gave me a number to call (sorry - don't have it, but your local retailer can probably give it to you), and they seemed much more reasonable.  I explained that I had an Alltel PRL and needed a vzw PRL to make the NE work, and they did it on the spot.  I did #48 and connected right up.
It seems that once the NE has your phone registered, it doesn't lose it even if your PRL goes back, as mine has.
Now, if your NE ever stops working (red sys light, blinking red gps light), it's probably your router.  They told me the following routers should be avoided:
Linksys WRT54G  <= this was my router
    Netgear WGT624
    DLink DIR625
    Dell Trumobile 2300
So I bought a Belkin N+ yesterday and haven't had any trouble since.

  • TS3623 IN THE MIDDLE OF A MOVIE ... APPLE TV STOPS WORKING. I HAVE YET TO WATCH A MOVIE FROM BEGINNING TO END WITHOUT APPLE TV LOSING ITS CONNECTION TO MY NETWORK

I PURCHASED MY APPLE TV ON FEBRUARY 7, 2012. I HAVE YET BEEN ABLE TO WATCH AN ITUNES PURCHASED MOVIE FROM BEGINNING TO END WITHOUT IT LOSING ITS CONNECTION TO MY NETWORK.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

Oh no! Lets ensure that you are connected. Have you tried to reset the Network Extender? Are other devices able to connect to the Extender? Is your Internet service up and running?

  • My iMac keeps losing the connection to my chosen Airport Wi-Fi network.  Anyone know why this happens?

My iMac keeps losing the connection to my chosen Airport Wi-Fi network.  Anyone know why this happens?

Close all Apps and see if Activity Monitor shows any processes runnung.
Not that I think this is the cure but have you tried these resets:
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
    PRAM RESET
    Zap the PRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT4260 Extended Network: Relay has ghosted "Connect Using:"

I have 2 Airport Extreme Base Stations on Firmware 7.6.1 (current as at June 22, 2012). I was using Airport Utility 6.1 for Lion, then downloaded the 5.6 Utility per another post that indicated I could then get parity with the instructions for "Extended Network" setup.
I'm following along, but as soon as I tell the relay to extend a wireless network, the option to "Connect Using" is grayed out. It is locked on "Wireless Network" even though I want to select "Ethernet", b/c the relay base station is fed (via its WAN port) from an ethernet connection via a LAN port on the source base station that is creating the wireless network.
    What am I missing?
Is there some default IPv6 setting I need to turn off? Wireless restrictions to remove? I don't get why this isn't working.

If you have your two AirPort interconnected by Ethernet, then you do NOT want to configure it for an extended network. Instead, you want to configure them into a roaming network. An "extended" network configuration is only used when there is a wireless connection between base stations.

  • IPhone 6 prioritizes poor 4G Connection over strong network extender 3G signal

I use the network extender due to poor coverage in my basement.  I have spent multiple hours with both Verizon and Apple trying to figure out why sometimes my iPhone 6 won't connect to it, including a hard reset of the iPhone.  I finally figure out that the iPhone 6 prioritizes getting a 4g connection, not matter how poor, over a 3g connection, no matter how strong.  As a result, my phone will occasionally latch on to a weak 4g signal and not connect to the Network Extender.  When I then get or make a call, the connection and voice quality is terrible.  The only work around is to completely turn off LTE.  This forces connection to the 3G Network Extender.  Of course, I then forget to turn it back on when I leave the house.  Are there any plans to provide some sort of a fix or a setting to make this more convenient?

PROBLEM SOLVED (so far). My wifes iphone 6 plus had the exact same issue. . .would keep going back to the weak 4G signal over the network extender.
To fix it, go into SETTINGS>CELLULAR>Enable LTE and set to DATA ONLY. . .NOT Voice and Data.
So far so good. . .only affects being able to make calls and surf the web at the same time, so if you don't do that much then you're not going to be inconvenienced too badly.
Hope it works for you!  Also, if the iPhone 6plus is like my Note3, then it has 2 antennas, 1 that's hooked into 4G and the other one that's connected to the network extender. . .it defaults to the 4G signal, so it may only show minimal bars till you actual make or receive a phone call then it'll jump to the network extender signal strength.
    Good luck!

  • Losing scanner connection to network

jp Officejet Pro 8600-n.  Every time i power down the printer and power it back up, it loses connection to my network.  The blue connection light is lighted and i can print with no problem.  It's just the scan feature that is losing conncetion.  When I say "scan to computer", I get  the message "make sure the feature is enabled" and for Windows "Open HP printer software, select Scanner Actions and then select Manage Scan to Computer".  I don't know where HP  printer software is.  I've been to the HP site until I'm blue in the face.  I have never had so many problems with a printer/scanner as I have with this printer.
Please help; this is really getting frustrating!

    Hello Cajun38,
I'm sorry to hear you've been having to reconnect your Officejet 8600 every time you need to scan, but I will certainly do my best to assist you
It sounds like the wireless is needing to be refreshed, so I would recommend that you try the Static IP address instructions in this Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection document.
Let me know if that helps, and if not, please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor to see if it can help as well!
Hope to hear back from you soon!

  • Can i block my phone from connecting to a network extender?

Hi everyone. One of my neighbors has recently installed a network extender. It seems that i am on the fringe of its coverage an now 99% of my calls and my friends calls drop after 1-2 seconds. When i place a call or answer i get the double beep then it said call failed. This is very annoying as i had coverage in my house. I now use my land line more than ever because my cellphone has become useless.
I called Verizon and they said that my only option was to buy my own extender for 299.. a joke. If this continues i may just have to cancel my account and choose another provider.

It is like a mini cell tower that uses your existing high speed Internetcconnection to improve the coverage in your home.

  • Network Extender Stopped Working - Resolution Keeps Getting Pushed Back

I have had good service with a network extender for about 5 months until last Wednesday (Sept 28).  Actually, I had acceptable service in my home  WITHOUT a network extender until Verizon started testing 4G in my area last spring/early summer.  Then, my service went from okay to NONE.  After numerous calls to tech support and escalations, an alleged "field test" was conducted on my street.  Conclusion: Foliage from trees causing signal loss.  Solution: $125 for a network extender.  Foolishly (as I later learned) I payed the $125 (many people claim to have received the free after reporting numerous problems and threatening to cancel service)...anyawy, last Wednesday I noticed @ home that my signal was varying from 3G to 1x, and the signal bars were all over the place.  My phone is showing 1x @ about -70 dbm, and either NO 3G or with a signal of -120 dbm or worse. On rare occasions I will get a brief 4G indication.  I did the usual, removed battery from phone, etc.  but later learned that my wife's phone was doing the same thing. According the the latest Verizon map I an deep within a 4G coverage area, yet can hardly get a signal of any kind within a 1/4 mile of my house without the extender.  While troubleshooting on my own and with Verizon tech support, I power cycled the network extender (all lights are on as they are supposed to be), ran the 8x8 VIOP test on my DSL service (it passed with flying colors), reset my DSL modem and router, refreshed DHCP on the router, checked all settings on both Verizon phones in the house.  Dialing #48 indicates that I am within network extender coverage, yet the signal varies from 1x to 3G/5 bars constantly as I sit in the room with the extender.  Several calls to tech support, two escalations, power increased on extender, resolution promised within 24 hours, then 48 hours, now today was told 72 hours.
My questions are:  Why suddenly signal loss to two phones from the extender after ruling out 2 phones and ISP, why such a poor signal at my home (not just inside...anywhere within a quarter mile) in the first place when the coverage map shows I'm well within the 4G coverage area, why is the resolution being pushed back every time I call to inquire?
Any help, especially from Verizon, would be appreciated.

I started on another string, but reading this tells me we have the same problem.  Got the extender, everything programmed, phones indicating connection to the extender network, but now I have the same issue.  My wife's Iphone shows great signal, but the words are clipped as well. My Droid X has no better signal strength indicated than before, (yes, it gives the short double beep so it must be connected) and the voice quality is bad enough that one can't understand the caller.  I can get signal directly when outside well enough to make decent phone calls.  When I go outside and away from the extenders range voice transmission returns to normal---though occasionally I will drop a call in normal transmission.  I have good 3G outside (3-4 bars though sporatic), but as soon as I try to make a call the signal drops to one bar on 1x. Therefore, the reason I got the extender so we could make calls inside the house rather than walking outside in subfreezing weather!!
Same routine,...called Tech service and got a rep.  She couldn't do anything but tell me that it had to be the "contruction materials in my house".  Said we must have brick contruction,....no, it's vinyl siding. I did say that we had a foil backed insulation material surrounding the house and she quickly affirmed that had to be the problem. It was blocking the signal inside the house and the extender wouldn't pick it up.
But if the extender is in the window, doesn't that solve the problem?  Point---if we stand at a north or east window (we have large windows on both sides) we are able to get a signal on the phone, but the service is "iffy." Again the reason for the extender.  She repeated again "Verizon can't do anything about the contruction materials in our house."  Then she said that the extender is designed for "people that live along the 'coasts' that have weak signal!!??" That was a hint that it wouldn't work in the midwest. Her final comment was that the extender wouldn't work if we had weak signal in the area(interesting that was said after her indicating that it was designed for customers with "weak" signal.) When I asked why it was connected to the internet, I didn't get an answer. I could tell I wasn't going to get information to help so I thanked her and gave up.
So were these excuses or reasons?  The local store that told me to get the extender knows absolutely nothing---"just call tech service."  I've had calls to 611 now three times, reprogrammed, reset the unit, and it still doesn't work.  I'm not even going to ask anyone in the forum to help as I'm sure that others are just as frustrated.  Verizon claimed the best technology and customer service when we switched a year ago.  We were shown on the map well within the 3G territory, but quickly found out that those maps are not accurate.  While we live on the prairie (flat land), our normal signal goes from 1x to 3G and back constantly. At night the signal is weaker than daytime. Sometimes we have 3, even 4 bars of 3G and 2 minutes later 1 bar of 1x.  ( I'm sitting here watching my phone do that right now.)     The only solution is to go back to ATT. We dropped calls with them, but at least could talk in the house with their phones.  It's costly to switch as we have to buy out the contract, but this service is unacceptable.
The real issue is credibility of the company.  I was told that we would be far more satisfied with Verizon service; and that if there were ever any problems---they would be fixed.  That wasn't a true statement.  I wish there was a credible alternative to both ATT and Verizon in our area.

  • Network Extender Problem

I have had the Verizon Network Extender for several years.  I use it in a rural area.  It worked fine initially but now all our Verizon phones have trouble connecting to it, i.e.. Even when the phones are within a few feet of the extender they show only one or two bars.  #48 indicates they are connected to the extender, however if we move just a few feet away they drop the connection.  We are then unable to make or receive calls.
I should add that all lights are blue on the extender and our internet connection is good.  I brought the extender to our house in the city and even though we get good signals and connections without an extender in our house, the phones will connect and stay connected to the extender when it is installed at this location.
I should add that the rural location is on a lake and our phones will frequently show strong Verizon signals with the extender off.  However, we are almost never able to make a call or receive a call at this location unless the extender is working.
My guess is the extender emits such a low power signal that the phones are looking at towers across Lake Superior and seeing those signals as stronger than the extender signal. Again we can't connect to those towers even though the phones show bars from them.
Can the extender signal be strengthened or set higher by Verizon personnel?   It would appear that if that happened the phones would see the extender as the better signal.

Turns out my network system was assigned a "system id" that is way down the preferred roaming list of my Samsung.  The Samsung Droid would avoid it at all costs, therefore would not connect to my extender.  Once tech support changed the system ID of the extender to the same number as the area the extender is located in (318), the Samsung and all our other phones have been connecting without problems.  Thanks to Chris who received my Verizon trouble ticket and solved the problem.
