Network Fax?

Hello folks:
Where I work, we are considering replacing Windows XP on our aging desktops. Most of the work we do centers around using an SQL database with a web interface. Opera / FIrefox / Epiphany / Konqueror all can access and render the pages fine.
Evolution can access our Exchange server and the shared network files or folders.
Our inter-office messaging application can be replaced with a jabber server and one of the available clients.
The thing that is holding us up most is our fax server and the ability to fax from the individual work station desktops.
We currently have a fax server running GFI's faxmaker http://www.gfi.com/ on Windows 2000 Server. We have a significant amount of money invested in the software and the faxboard, so replacing the server with a linux-driven server is not a viable option.
Currently, our users can send faxes from their desktops by selecting faxmaker from the available printers. Doing so pulls up a blank email in Outlook with a fax attached to it. They type in the fax number in the To: field and off it goes.
My question to you folks is: Is there a way to access a network fax server similar to the above using Evolution, or some other client software that will recogfnize a network address for the fax server, be it 10.10.10.x or //path/to/server that will allow our employees to send faxes from their work station desktops?
If we could solve this one issue, I think we'd be able to dump windows off each work station with very little difficulty.
Thank you for reading this novel and especially so if you have an idea to share.

  • OfficeJet 4630 Defaults to Network Fax when user has selected Network Printer Instead on WIN XP

Hi, just installed the OJ4630 and selected the "Network Printer" as the default.  When choosing to print an MS Word document in "My Documents" the "Network Printer" correctly appears as the default.  But when choosing to print a picture in "My Pictures" the "Network Fax" becomes the default, which is an error.  Please advise, thanks!

    Hi
Thanks for reporting the issue. Here is the way to fix it.
Go to windows->Control panel-> Printers and devices
Right click on the 4630 Fax Printer, select the option Set as default printer and you'll see two choices there: one is printer driver and other one is fax driver.   You choose print driver to set as default.
    Done
    Hope it will help you.

  • How do I fax from my Intel-based iMac through a shared network fax?

The Intel-based iMac no longer has a built-in modem, so sending a fax from it is impossible. However, I set up fax sharing on my older (wiser and more mature) iMac, through a shared computer. The problem is that when I go to fax from my Intel-based iMac, it tells me that it cannot find a modem. I don't understand why it won't simply go through the shared fax on the network. I realize that it doesn't have an internal modem. That is why I am telling it to go through the network fax/printer that I set up. It won't listen. Kids!
As it stands, If I want to fax an InDesign document, for example, I have to export it to a pdf and move it (via the network) to the older iMac. This is time consuming and cumbersome. But, if the new iMac is incapable of performing properly over the network, what other choices are there?
If anyone knows of a way to fix this, I'd appreciate knowing. I am looking for the most efficient, time-saving way. Going online to find a faxing service, free or not, is not an option as that is just adding more steps.
    Thanks very much.

I have been faxing from my Leopard machine through the shared internal fax modem on a Tiger machine across the room ever since I bought it and it worked fine. Until now. Apparently the 10.5.7 upgrade broke something, because it no longer works. I get this error message:
"A really really real fax number was not provided"
and then the document is deleted from the queue. I tried resetting the print system, as suggested elsewhere, but that still doesn't work.

Hi there dilligas, welcome to the forums

  • Network faxing - mac to pc

For lack of a better forum I will ask this question here.
Im currently trying to set up a fax network using a file/media server and toying with the concept of setting it us also as a fax server for sending faxes.
The network consists of a wireless pc an airport extreme base station to share boardband and printer, an iBook G4 and Mac Book Pro. The current network performs really well thanks to Bonjour for Windows, but I was wondering if I install a fax modem on the pc, will the Mac notebooks be able to access this modem for sending faxes? I was considering picking up a cheap hardware fax for receiving the faxes.
Can anyone give me any futher information?
    12" iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

or if I install a MFP on the pc, will i be able to use the pc fax to send faxes from the networked macs?

  • [network: fax] efax-gtk

I have discovered that I can run efax-gtk on my Arch box, by copying over the two executable files efax-0.9a and efax-gtk (the front end) from my Mandy 10 box. And everything works within my kde setup.
I have had a closer look at the instructions with the source files, and there are strict and complicated restrictions as to which libraries should be run depending on what version of gnome is present. It is not relevant to my main point, but I only have some gnome-type libraries because I only run some of the apps.
To get back to my point, it seems to me that building the dependencies into an abs build would involve automating what the instructions advise you of, and which needs individual scrutiny from their viewpoint.
I, of course, have no idea how Mandrake overcame these issues. But what I am saying is that surely it is possible to make a pseudo.pkg.tar.gz (no source and no recompilation possibilities). Because, truly, these two executables are all that is needed. I also use sudo so that I can run it as user and access my user directories easily, but that is a small point.

    Thanks Snowman.
    1) It does try to create the spooler directory in the system; and it does work this new way. The documenation says that /var/spool/fax is the default location; and -- since it does work this new way -- it rather looks as though one couldn't effect any substantive change by applying --with-spooldir differently.
    2) The hassle over making and moving directories, is really about "/usr/etc/efax-gtkrc". I cannot find that it does anything more than be there as a reference source. On startup, ~.efax-gtkrc gets created; and that (together with .efax-gtk_mainwin_save .efax-gtk_queued_server_files efax-gtk-server faxin faxout faxsent) get used as the storage and settings.
I have moved the alleged main settings to /etc/efax-gtkrc, and -- as I said -- it doesn't make any real difference. It would be confusing to Archers, if it were not there; and the --with-syconfdir option doesn't work. The /etc directory evidently gets applied according to --prefix=/usr, regardless of anything else.
Considering efax-gtkrc does not seem to be used, the developers evidently felt they didn't need to bother with that extra nicety.
    3) In the Settings Panel, there is indeed an option for using GTK+ Print. But what would be the makedepends for this.
This is a build for something of a Heath Robinson source. But the application runs without problem. It has been stable through severral updates, also. So despite the oddities, I am hoping it can get adopted.
As for patching, that could end up looking more like a complete rewrite.
    Thanks
    Geoff

  • Two AirPorts in the Same Network...

I am using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n and I want to add my OLD Airport Extreme 802.11b/g in another part of the house but I just cannot seem to get them to play together. I also have an AirPort Express currently working quite nicely within the AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless network. It seems that I should be able to use both the base stations to extend the wireless and wireline services. I just do not see how.
I have looked exhaustively for a solution.
The goal is that one base station (802.11g/n) will have its ethernet port hooked up to a network printer -- wile the other will take on the network fax and disks.
    Little Help...?

Hello cypherpunk. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you have already set up a WDS between the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). If that is the case, all you would want to do is add the 802.11b/g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as another remote base station in this WDS.

  • How to send a fax

my dell pc is in the wireless mode but my fax is connected to house phone. How to I connect to 2 so I can send and receive fax
Unless you can either get your fax machine connected to to your network or connect it via USB or Bluetooth to your PC, then you can't.
most multifunction machines are not capable of LAN FAX services, which is why I bought a USB modem.
I recall in the 1980s that Xerox had a fax server that connected to a printer that could support walkup faxing as well as network faxes. That setup cost over $100,000.
Today, only Rockwell chipsets are known to work with recent releases of Windows desktop or Server.
I purchased my USB modem on eBay for a low cost and it is recognized my Windows Server fine.
I have looked at using a iPhone and that went nowhere.
My currrent USB device has a Conexant chipset, which is Rockwell's modem division

  • Oracle VM and faxing

    Hi all,
did a quick search and couldn't find anything - so if I've missed it I apologise.
Has anyone ever gotten network faxing working with OVS? That is - with something like Hylafax or similar. How would I go about attaching a fax modem to a specific VM etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
I have a similar tasks, and the only way I found (because there is not emulation for fax in XEN), to directly attach the device to the guest, where you want to install the fax driver/sofware.
While I already managed the pci passthrough, I had not yet the chance to install the fax software yet, so I am not 100% sure this really works yet (but it should).
Unfortunately PCI passthrough is not officially supported in OVM. But it works, as you can see in Wim Coekaerts blog:
    http://blogs.oracle.com/wim/2010/10/playing_with_sr_iov_in_oracle.html
And here is another guide for PCI Passthrough:
    http://zhigang.org/wiki/XenPCIPassthrough
Let me know if it worked in your case...
In my case I also lost my second network card, since the fax card and the network card did work both on the 5:0 slot.

  • Scheduling Faxes for later transmission

The manual, in the section on Faxing starting on page 60, begins the second sentence with:  "You can schedule faxes to be sent at a later time ...".
I have not been able to find any further information on this in the manual, nor, in the dialog boxes when selecting the 8625 as my FAX-printer and the dialog boxes to send a fax.
I would be happy to use this functionality via the HP fax/print driver if it is actually available and someone can tell me how to do so, or, I'd gladly use Windows Fax-Scan to schedule faxes for later transmission if someone could tell me the network address (WFS is asking for a network fax server address) to use.

    Hi Jimmy,
Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Your printer's User Guide does say that... it is either lying to you or the information is missing.  I do not know which is the case.
The following is from the HP Photosmart 7520 User Guide on the same subject (Page 28):
    Excerpted:
Schedule a fax to send later
You can schedule a black-and-white fax to be sent within the next 24 hours. This enables you to send a blackand-white fax late in the evening, when phone lines are not as busy or phone rates are lower, for example.
The printer automatically sends your fax at the specified time.
You can only schedule one fax to be sent at a time. You can continue to send faxes normally, however, while a fax is scheduled.
NOTE: You can only send scheduled faxes in black-and-white.
To schedule a fax from the printer control panel
    1. Load your original print-side down in the right-front corner of the glass or print-side up in the Automatic Document Feeder.
    2. Touch Fax, and then touch Settings.
    3. Touch Send Fax Later.
    4. Enter the send time by touching up and down arrows, touch AM or PM, and then touch Done.
    5. Enter the fax number by using the keypad, touch (Speed Dial) to select a speed dial, or touch (Call History) to select a previously dialed or received number.
    6. Touch Start Fax. The printer scans all pages and the scheduled time appears on the display. The fax is sent at the scheduled time.
    To cancel a scheduled fax
    1. Touch the Fax, then touch Settings.
    2. Touch Send Fax Later.
    3. Touch Cancel Scheduled Fax.

  • ATA 186 Issue to send faxes

    Hi,
I have an issue with ATA 186 to send faxes. I have tried many things, but the fax sending  is unsuccessful. I am not a VoIP expert, so it is pretty hard to me to identify the difference between some commands. This is the topology of the network:
    Fax Machine --- ATA ---- CCM ---- VoIPGW --- E1(PSTN)
I have the following values in ATA:
    AudioMode: 0x00120012
    ConnectMode: 0x00008400
This is the dial-peer configured to that Fax:
    dial-peer voice 1010 voip
    call-block translation-profile incoming 110
    call-block disconnect-cause incoming call-reject
    preference 1
    destination-pattern 1044
    voice-class h323 1
    session target ipv4:10.15.190.4
    dtmf-relay cisco-rtp h245-signal h245-alphanumeric
    codec g711ulaw
    fax rate disable
    fax protocol pass-through g711ulaw
    no vad
Aditionaly I had the following lines in VoIPGW:
    ccm-manager fax protocol cisco
    mgcp
    mgcp fax t38 ecm
    Recently I changed to:
    no ccm-manager fax protocol cisco
    mgcp
    mgcp fax t38 inhibit
Not sure if I missing something, in the other hand I would like to know which is the different between  fax protocol pass-through g711ulaw and modem passthrough nse codec g711ulaw
    Thanks for your comments....

    Hello,
    There is one relly important detail on this matter, is the fax machine a super G3 fax machine? this is because as you mention there are some limitation for the ATAs to work with fax machines and modems, this is because the device was not designed for this purpose.}
In the follow link you could find some information about the ATA configuration for faxing:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/gatecont/ps514/products_qanda_item09186a00800946e1.shtml
Another important detail is check if your gateway supports the type of faxing that you are trying to do

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M177fw makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing

Makes horrible noise and will not move past initializing.

    Hi @HealthITLadyRed,
I read your post and see that the printer is making noise and is stuck initializing. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
I have provided some steps to try to see if we can resolve this issue.
Check and remove any packaging material inside the printer and toner.
Disconnect the USB/Network/FAX and power the printer on Standalone.
Do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue persists, perform a power drain by disconnecting the power cord from the back of the printer and keeping the power button pressed for 30 seconds and in case of a power switch keep the switch in ON position for 30 seconds before reconnecting the power chord.
Update the printer's firmware by a USB connection. Software and Drivers.
Select Option 2 and wait for the page to load and then select the link for firmware. This resolved the previous posters issue.
I can send a private message with another step to try.
In the forum beside your handle name just click on the envelope to view it.
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
What happened prior to this issue? (paper jam, changed toner) Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Is this a new printer?
