can you setup home sharing from your iPad ?

You can set Home sharing on the iPad by adding your Apple ID in the appropriate area.
    Settings->Music->Home Sharing
But you still need a computer with iTunes from which to share the library.  You can't share libraries between iDevices.

  • Home Sharing from Mac to iPad vs. Mac to AppleTV 2

Some odd quirks about Home Sharing from a Mac to the iPad, vs. from a Mac to AppleTV 2.
I'm seeing duplicates of some of my TV Seasons on the iPad (like, 3 identical icons that claim to be the same Season 2 of a series-the contents are identical). Meanwhile, some TV seasons don't show up at all.
Also, episodes seem once again out of order; this was an issue originally with AppleTV 2, which I fixed by adding both track numbers and season episode numbers.
All my content looks great in AppleTV 2 now-on the iPad..not so much I know the content all plays fine on all 3 devices, so it's not a format issue I don't think. Curious if anyone else is seeing some odd Home Sharing contents on their iPads/iPhones as well.

I am seeing an issue as well. It seems that when using Home Share on my iPad, that the directory listing of for example my TV shows is not complete. What I am seeing is that it only displays a subset of the entire catalog of TV shows in my iTunes Library. I notices that from A through S shows were present but nothing thereafter. So I changed the names of the TV Shows to start with an A for example and they did show up but then several shows dropped off the end of the listing. I concluded that the issue is not an alphabetical issue but just a limited amount of entries within the directory can be displayed.... obviously a bug within the iPad current release of 4.3. I do notice that the iPhone ver of IOS doesn't seem to have the problem. Also it does display several of the identical TV shows as well as mentioned in prior messages.

  • Can't log into Home sharing from an iPhone to computer via wifi

Every time I log into home sharing from my iPhone 4S it loads halfway and stays there until it times out. I've restarted everything, verified all network connections. No firewall. I used to be able to stream music to my phone, but can't any more. The only possible change (aside from major updates from Apple), was a substantial increase in the size of my library around the same time. But my iPod Touch was still able to sync, as well as a friends iPad. Any ideas?Every time I log into home sharing from my iPhone 4S it loads halfway and stays there until it times out. • Can i put music on another library after home sharing from my new laptop?

I used home sharing to share the music, but i want to be able to add music on the other library from my new laptop
Is there a way to do this?

    Hello shrutisk1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
You can use Home Sharing to transfer the music to other computers by following the directions below.
Home Sharing is an easy way to keep all your iTunes libraries in sync across multiple computers at your house. For more information on Home Sharing and syncing your library between two computers, read iTunes: Understanding Home Sharing.
Note: This option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.
    Home Sharing requires
    iTunes 9 or later.
An Apple ID that is also an iTunes or App Store Account. If you need to, you can create an iTunes or App Store account without a credit card.
    An active Internet connection.
A Local Area Network connection (Ethernet or Wi-Fi), such as one created by a router.
Follow the steps below to use Home Sharing to copy your music between your old computer which has the music on it already, and a new computer.
Be sure iTunes 9 or later is installed on both computers.
    Open iTunes on both computers.
    On your old computer:
If Home Sharing is already enabled, iTunes 11 or later displays the option to Turn Off Home Sharing (Account) under the File > Devices menu. If this is the case, proceed to step 7. Otherwise, choose:
iTunes 11 or later: File > Devices > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
iTunes 9 or 10: Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes from where you select music, movies, or TV shows.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Create Home Share.
    On your new computer:
Click the Store menu and choose Authorize computer. Enter your Apple ID and password (that was listed in the Advanced menu in step three or used in step 5).
Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes.
Note: Once Home Sharing is enabled, the Home Sharing option disappears from the left side of iTunes until a Home Share library is found from another computer.
Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
Wait for the content to finish transferring.

  • So, I have created my home sharing from my base computer to my laptop. On my lap top I see the tab for home sharing but it will not let me connect to my computer to share my music over. I have done everything iTunes has told me to but it still won't work.

So, I have created my home sharing from my base computer to my laptop. On my lap top I see the tab for home sharing but it will not let me connect to my computer to share my music over. I have done everything iTunes has told me to but it still won't work. Any help would make my day...

I got some more info that may help.
I put a cd on my laptop, and was able to share it to my computer... So the problem is only from my computer to my laptop. I tried the firewall thing and it did not help. I read the rest of the trouble shooting page, and nothing else applies. iTunes is an execption and already was. I can not think of anything else being my problem. Do you think I should re-install iTunes or would that be a waste of time? At this point I am about to just call Apple for some help because I am getting to stressed over this.
    Thanks

To downgrade, you'll need to download the previous software version here: ATV3 http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4361.20120605.grjot/AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    ATV2: http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4362.20120605.t8i4U/AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
Next, plug the Apple TV into your computer with a micro-usb cable (most phones today use these) and start up Itunes. It should detect the Apple TV in recovery.
After that, hold down Option on Apple or Alt on Windows and click Restore. This should open a window that allows you to select the software update you want to apply. Select the one you downloaded earlier.
It will then go through the restore process, which takes only a few minutes, and then you will be able to plug the Apple TV back in to your display and set it up again.
I recently ran into a similar issue with a bunch of these things and after restoring them all to the previous software version they are working again.

  • How to import a playlist in Home Sharing From Computer to ...

How to import a playlist in Home Sharing From Computer to computer and other devices?

No need to "import". Just find the photo in iPhoto (i.e. within the application), click it once so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Copy (or just ⌘-C). Go to Address Book, select the contact, click the Edit button at the bottom, click once on the blank photo icon so it's highlighted with a blue outline, then select Edit menu > Paste (or just ⌘-V).
FYI, the original iPhoto images are stored as individual files, in ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/subfolders.
    Hope this helps...

  • Apple TV no longer sees home sharing from one computer

I have a desktop computer with Windows 7 OS, and a laptop with windows 7 OS
Up until about a month ago I could   do home sharing  separate libraries from either computer with either one of my (2) Apple TVs
Now both Apple TVs only recognize home sharing from my laptop but not from my desktop (where of course the library is more extensive.)
I have tried rebooting my modem, router and computer, rebooting both Apple TVs, rebooting I-Tunes, de-authorize  and re-authorize my desktop computer, uninstalling and reinstalling my I-Tunes, undo home sharing and re-do home sharing my library - All on several occasions and absolutely nothing works,
I even brought one of the Apple TV boxes in and hooked it up with a micro USB as someone suggested and reprogrammed it back to factory default settings.
Does anyone have any other ideas that might possibly work to get my desktop library back on line for Home Sharing???

    Brian,
    Thanks for responding.....................
No, it just shows the Laptop computer when you click the computer tab box when you first open Apple TV - ie NetFlix, Hulu, Computers
If you go to settings and then computer - it just gives the option to turn home sharing off, it does not mention any specific computer there.

  • I want to connect my ipad mini to my Apple TV. There isn't a option when I double tap on my ipad button for connecting to the tv and I also can't connect to home sharing from my iTunes settings. Can someone talk to me in simple terms. Thanks

So I have a ipad min. I want to connect it to my Apple TV. There is no option on my ipad for home sharing which my Apple TV is telling me to do.
Can somebody please just explain it to me in simple terms where I can find the home sharing and what I have to do to connect my Apple TV to the ipad or vice versa.
Everything I have bought from apple in the past month has been a complete let down its taking far to long to connect things and the people who sell the products to you lie about what the product does and can do.
    Can someone help me please
    Thanks

AirPlay isn't anything to do with homesharing. (Home sharing lets you share the iTunes libraries on computers)
Basic AirPlay: Assuming both devices are on the same network and that AirPlay is not turned off on the Apple TV, then simply tap on the screen when you are watching content you wish to stream to your Apple TV, then tap the airplay icon that appears in the control bar, choose the Apple TV from the menu that appears.
Mirroring: When displaying the content you wish to mirror on the iPad 2 (or better), iPad Mini, iPhone 4S (or better), double tap the home button (quickly) and swipe the bottom row of apps to the right to reveal the playback controls, tap the AirPlay icon and select your Apple TV from the list of available devices.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Ipad makes network/home sharing available for Apple TV2 and iphone

I've always had issues using home sharing on my Apple TV2; it would often tell me i needed to turn on home sharing on my desktop even though it was on.  Ususally restting the router and restarting iTunes would resolve the issue.  I would have to do this everytime i tried to play something on my Apple TV2 from my desktop.  THen i got an iPad 1 and it could find the shared folder instantly, when it would find it, it would all of a sudden make the Apple TV2 find my desktop (sometimes the Appl TV2 would hang there for 15 minutes searching for the desktop, i would go to videos on the iPad, and then "bang" the Apple TV would work).  I just got an iphone 3gs and upgraded to iOS 6 (had the following issue with iOS 5, too) and when i go to the video app it is blank and says there are no videos on my iphone with a button for the store at the bottom.  One time i hit the header reading "Videos" at the top and all of a sudden it listed which libraries i wanted to access, iPhone or Shared.  Couldn't get that to happen again until just now i started the trusty old iPad and pointed it to the shared folder and all of a sudden my iPhone showed me the shared location again.  Is there a way to access the home sharing network consistently without having to bot up the iPad everytime, especially on tyhe iPhone where there isnt a real location for doing this as far a I can tell.  Everyone always refers to the old "iPod" app before they switched it to "Music" and would say you go to "More" and selected "Shared" but those options arent avaiable anymore.  Thanks.

Follow up:  It appears to have been caused by the Bose system.  We have multiple areas that can be controlled by the Bose console.  Playing another area (outdoor speakers) via one source (satellite) was interfering with playing the Apple TV in the den on the television.  Apparently.

  • Conflict between home sharing from MacBook Pro and airplay from ipad / iPhone?

Just bought an Apple TV, and set it up yesterday. Everything works fine, with one exception. When I have iTunes open and home sharing turned on the Apple TV, when trying to mirror airplay from my ipad 4th gen or my iPhone 5s, I get nothing on the Apple TV, just black screen. It also makes the device run really sluggish.
I've definitely narrowed it down to this conflict, quitting iTunes on the MacBook Pro immediately resolves the issue. So no big deal, right? Just turn off itunes. Except the whole point of buying the Apple TV is to have a central point I can stream all my media in the house from, I'd like to have my MacBook Pro, iMac, ipad and iPhone able to take control of the Apple TV without having to run across the house to turn iTunes on or off on the computers.
This only happens when mirroring, normal airplay audio or video works just fine. MacBook Pro and Apple TV are hard wired Ethernet, ipad on wifi.
Is this a known conflict? Is there any solution?

Normally there ought to be an airplay button in the top menu bar (where also the battery, wifi, clock, etc are located). And in display settings at the bottom there ought to be a drop down menu labelled Airplay Display.
If not, it seems that your Apple TV cannot be found. Are both on the same network? Have you enabled AirPlay in the Apple TV (Settings -> AirPlay set to On)?

  • Save music from home sharing to iPad

How do I import music from home sharing to my iPad?????

You don't.  that is not what home share does.
You have to sync the music via itunes and the usb cable.
"With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
