Network in Macintosh HD does not show network machines

When I open Network via Macintosh HD (or in any other way) none of my networked machines show up.
Instead it shows three folders:
- Applications
- Library
- Users
Why is that? And how do I remedy that? I can't map my Windows shares or any other shares, so any help that allows me to correct the situation would be much appreaciated.

Gulp!!!
Here we go...
Then type... cd /Network
An ls command should show...
bdaqua:/Network bdaqua$ ls
Applications Library Users
Type...
sudo rm Applications
sudo rm Library
sudo rm Users
Hopefully this only removes the Symbolic Links, and not the real Directories... that's the way things are suppossed to work anyway!
Reboot and see if we fixed it.
CAUTION: sudo gives you Super Powers, and rm will remove whatever is typed after it... so you can, if not precise/careful, remove anything/everything!

  • Macintosh HD does not show up in Windows 7 bootcamp

    I recently decided to transfer some things over to my hardrive, which is NTFS and needs to be used with Windows. This hasn't been a problem before now as i would just restart into Windows 7, plug in the harddrive, access the Macintosh HD from Windows, and transfer whatever it is i need to. This was not possible when i tried this today. When i went to look for he Macintosh HD it is not showing up at all in Windows 7. Im not sure what happened between the last time i tried this and now. The only thing that i can think of is possibly one of the new updates from Lion may have done this. Anyways hopefully someone has had the same issue and might be able to provide some insight. Thanks so much everyone!

    Thanks! But I actually figured it out! Right after I said something about the driver, I went into device mangager. Sure enough even though it did not show up as a drive letter the device manager said is was installed and working.
    So I deleted the device out of device manager. Restarted and plugged it in. Although I go some weird error. It found the IPOD and now Itunes sees it.
    I believe that killing the process would have done the same thing as you stated.
    Thanks to all for taking the time to answer these issues. It beats the apple store or tech support.

  • FolderBrowserDialog does not show network drives on Windows 8

    Hi,
    On Windows 8 when we use FolderBrowserDialog, the network drives are not displayed. It works fine if we run the same program on Windows 7. Do you know if it's a Windows 8 restriction?
    Thanks.
    Olivier

    Hi,
    Ok, i know how to reproduce:
    - Create a Visual 2010 WinForms project targetting .NET 4
    - Remove the "Application.Run(form);" line and replace it by: "new FolderBrowserDialog.ShowDialog();"
    - Add a manifest file specifying to run with elevated privileges:
      <trustInfo xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">
        <security>
          <requestedPrivileges>
            <requestedExecutionLevel level="requireAdministrator" uiAccess="false"/>
          </requestedPrivileges>
        </security>
      </trustInfo>
    1. If you run this program on Windows 8 Entreprise 64-bit, the network drives are not displayed.
    2. If you remove the <trustinfo> from the manifest file, then the network drives are displayed.
    On Windows 7 there's no problem, it always works, this bug is specific to Windows 8. I have tried to apply the latest available updates for Windows 8, it has no effect.

  • Mapped Drive B:\ to a network share but does not show up in Windows Explorer.

    I mapped drive B: to a network share but it does not show up in Windows explorer.  I can go to the drive by typing b:\ but is not visible in explorer.  But if I login as local admin it shows up in windows explorer.  Any suggestions?

    Hi Lloyd Reeves,
    Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    Disconnect the mapped drive and map it again.
    Ensure the user is using an administrator account; or change another user account to have a try.
    Create  a shortcut for a share folder and see if it will disappear.
    In addition,  it would be helpful for future troubleshooting if you could help to collect the following information:
    Which method did you use to map drive?
    Was there any error message in the Event log? If so, please provide the      detailed information.
    For your information, please refer to this similar case:

  • My Macbook Air does not show up on my network to any of my other computers, Other computers on my network appear and disappear, some shared folders are not accessible

    My Macbook Air with Lion does not show up on my network to any of my other computers (PC's) , even though it is connected to my wifi and does access the Internet. In addition, my other computers sometimes show up in Finder and sometimes they're not there. Sometimes they do show in Finder and when I click on them, I get "Connection Failed", other times, they connect. Also some shared folders on those other computers, which are PC's are not accessible, even though fully shared. My network is Apple Airport Extreme and works perfectly otherwise, including all PC's being able to see each other. Help would be much appreciated

    I got the same problem. I want to access my shared folder on my home windows7 from my MBA. Tried many suggestions on the web but all to no avail. I thought that should be very trivial. Maybe a Lion bug?

  • ITunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive

    iTunes on new Mac Mini does not show shared libraries on network or songs on NAS drive
    The latest version of iTunes on a 3-month old Mac Mini (8 gig RAM, OS 10.10.2) does not see any of the shared iTunes libraries on a  MacBookPro (MBP) (OS 10.9.5) and a 14-month old Mac Mini (OS 10.9.5). And a network shared drive/media server does not appear as well. I have a Gigabite Ethernet G4 and on it, the MPB and the "old" mini I can see the various shared music libraries and NAS, but not on the new Mini.
    The little house with a music note inside it that I see on the upper left corner of the iTunes 12.1 window on my MBP does not appear on iTunes 12.1 on the new Mac Mini. I have gone through all the iTunes preferences and can not find where I can turn on this feature. The new Mac Mini is on the local network and I can reach the internet successfully.
    I have been using iTunes since its beginning (still have a PowerTower Pro with a working copy of SoundJam), so I am not a newbie, but this has me baffled.

    May I add, that I gave full rights to the user at the Mac Mini to access and change data on the server drive for ITunes Media.

  • AirPort does not show under System Preferences Network Show

    Hello,
    I am having problems with my AirPort Express. It is listed in AirPort Admin Utility (with an IP Address), but does not show up under System Preferences > Network > Show.
    How can I get the AirPort recognized?
    Thanks,
    Fidelio

    In System under "Network" it shows "AirPort Card" with "No information found"
    Your Mac does not have a wireless card installed or it is not working.
    However, I would like to set up a shared printer and instructions I have for this say that I need to get the IP address of AirPort under System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort.
    That information should have nothing to do with a printer since the information there relates to your Mac... not to the AirPort Express (AX).

    Open Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left.
    In the search field top right corner of that window type in: airport

    Hi,
    If the machine is brand new I don't see why the serial Number is missing (it is entered on to a special chip at the factory)
    However if the machine is a return and has been refurbished then the Logic/mother board may have been changed and someone forgot to put the info back to the new board.

  • Windows 7 32 bit computer does not show in network neighborhood

    If I go to Windows Explorer only certain computers will show (both Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit computers) under network. Why would
    another computer not be showing.
    The computer is on Windows Server 2008 domain.
    If I a computers that does not show and open Network and Sharing Center, Change advanced sharing settings, I see Turn on network discovery and Turn on file and printer sharing  are checked.

    After upgrading all the computers on a small LAN (about 10 workstations) I found that only a few of the workstations would show up in network neighborhood.  This was a using a clean install of Windows7Pro on all the  computers.  After a great
    deal of checking settings and verifying that the really could be accessed by mapping a drive to a known computer name and share such as:
    \\SERVER1\data, but unable to see the computers in network neighborhood, out of frustration I changed the workgroup name from the default WORKGROUP to WORKGROUP1 and like magic the network neighborhood became populated.
    I saw hints about this in several other forums, but nothing on Microsoft, so wanted to pass it along that this really works.  OTH, I have other workgroups that work just fine with the default WORKGROUP name,
    So, after changing all the computers in the workgroup over to WORKGROUP1 all became visible and my problem was solved.  Oh and this was just a typical TCP/IP network with a Dynex router providing dhcp services and internet access.  Absolutely plain
    vanilla, no 3rd party firewalls, just the default tcp/ip network settings that are pretty much installed automatically when installing W7Pro.  And all the computers were set up as WORK networks with Network Discovery and sharing enabled.  I verified
    again by changing some back to WORKGROUP that when I did so those computers were no longer visible on the network.
    Hope this helps someone else.

  • HT4259 Airport Utility 6.1 does note show "extend wireless network" option.  How do I find the feature

    I have an airport extreme and the utility is 6.1.  I also have an airport express.  I'd like to use the airport express to extend the WiFi.  The "extend the wireless network" option does not show up in the Airport Utility 6.1.  How do I go about finding that option?  Is it something that doesn't need to be checked in Airport Utility 6.1?

    I have airport express but it is not recognised by either my macbook pro or my ipod on my wireless network. It does not show in airport utility. Might I not have an airport card?
    If both your MacBook Pro and iPod are unable to "see" the Wi-Fi network provided by the AirPort Express, it is most likely NOT that you are missing an "airport card," but the Express may be the issue instead.
    One quick test is to see if either device can "see" other Wi-Fi networks. If they can, then you can definately rule both of them out as the issue.
    By default, the AirPort Express will broadcast an unsecured Wi-Fi network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Can either device see this network? If not, then I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the Express, and then, check again.
