Network is Read-Only....Error

Hi!
I am using the NetworkManager.writeNetwork() method to store my paths
in my path table and I receive the following error
Network: XXXX is read-only
How can I overcome this?

Did you open the network as read-only? For example:
SDO_NET_MEM.network_manager.read_network (net_mem => 'A_NETWORK', allow_updates => 'FALSE');
instead of
SDO_NET_MEM.network_manager.read_network (net_mem => 'A_NETWORK', allow_updates => 'TRUE');

    Hopefully I'm missing something obvious here but when I try to edit a PDF in Acrobat 10.6.3 I receive a read only error message, I have been using 'Save As' and tweaking the name each time but this seems to be a clumsy way to go about a simple save.
    I am on a network and have read a previous thread that explained Adobe can sometimes be flakey on networks for saving PDFs.
    Any suggestion gratefully received.

    You may be stuck with copying the files locally and editing and then copying back to the network drive. I am not good with networks, but have noticed posts about network problems over the years -- often focused on specific networks. The solution is typically to deal with the PDFs locally and then copy to the network. In creating PDFs, it seems that some of the results had to do with the TMP folder usage, but I have no clue why.
    As far as AA 10.6.3, you must have a cloud version or something. The latest AA is 10.1.7.

    Hi, when my boss wants to save a new file in a new subfolder, he presses "new folder" but cannot create a new one because a “read only” error box appears. Once he saves the file to his Desktop he clicks on “save as” again and then he can create a new subfolder by pressing “new folder.” Is there a way to create and save to a subfolder directly without having to first save somewhere else?

    Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

    Hello I am following on from a previously reported issue.
    We have a client who are using Adobe Acrobat 9 and have .PDF's saved in a Share Folder. Is the creator of the document but is still faced with the read only prompt when trying to save the document after making an edit (e.g rotating). Upgrading to Adobe Acrobat 9 isn't an option.
    Folder permissions in both Share and NTFS is okay.
    User's profile has full control of the folder it is being saved in. I've also ensured the reading pane is Windows Explorer is off when they're opening it.
    Have run a repair on Adobe Acrobat 9 and tried with other documents with the same result.
    Saving locally does not have the same issue.
    Please advise a solution for using .PDF for Adobe Acrobat 9 in a Share Folder environment.
    Server is SBS2008 and user's PC is Windows 7 Professional.
    Eagerly await a fix.

    I am having the same issue. Acrobat X was working fine for me for months, then out of the blue, it starts having this problem TODAY! (There must be something about the month of November when people have this problem with Acrobat! )
    Each time I open a PDF file in Acrobat and make an edit, (such as highlighting text or adding a link to a web page), I cannot save the file by the same name. I get the "read only" error message:
    "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder."
    I installed the latest updates for Acrobat after this problem occurred, but the "read only" error message persists. In a previous thread, one person suggested turning off Acrobat's Protected Mode by going to Edit/Preferences/General and unchecking the Enable Protected Mode At Startup. I do not see this option in Acrobat X.
    The only work-around I've found is to save the PDF file with a temporary name, then after making the edits in Acrobat, save the file as the original name that you wanted the file to be in the first place.
    I'd rather not have to mess with work-arounds. I just want to make this problem go away. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Time Machine read only error & dissapears

    I have been running time machine on a MacBookPro MacOS x 10.5.8 for 2 years.
    Last week for the first time I got the "External Drive is Read Only" error. I followed the instructions in Troubleshooting on verify and repair but it didn't work (details below). I bought a new external drive configured for MAC OS Extended Journaled format and it worked for 5 days before giving me the same error and the same problems reported on verify. I don't want to use the install disk again because it didn't work last time (and it is 10.4.9 not Leopard - I upgraded by download).
    I am at my wits end here. Given that the problem occurred on two different external drives I suspect a problem with my OS.
    Details of errors (more or less the same both times):
    Time Machine Error - Time Machine "Backup volume is read only"
    Finder initially showed that the back up folder was read/write for my user ID and the drive was read/write for the system (not sure because the drive now doesn't appear in finder or in Time Machine ("storage location cannot be found" message)
    Disk Utilities: Repair disk option was unavailable Verify disk was available
    Verify disk showed a lot error messages including a lot in red: e.g. "Incorrect number of directory hard links" "Incorrect number of threads" "Invalid Directory Item Count" "Invalid volume file count" - on the second drive (not the first) it could not complete the verify - error message Verify disk failed: Error: 'Filesystem verify or repair failed.'
    Repair disk was available on the Installation disk (10.4.9) - I ran it on the first external drive but it could not repair ANY of the errors. I haven't tried to run it on the second drive

    I did not format the second drive myself. I purchased it as a Mac only external drive. I checked the format before and in Disk utility - it is definitely Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in both the disk and the partition. The Partition Map Scheme is "Apple Partition Map" which is supposed to be alright for an intel machine (which mine is). Should I change it to GUID?
    No, that's fine for TM. Only if you want to install OSX on it do you really need GUID. It's likely not a problem here, but most drives come with various software from the makers, often backup and/or management apps. On occasion, some will be running occasionally or constantly, interfering with TM or other things. That's why we usually recommend that a new drive be erased and reformatted.
    I did format the first drive myself before I used it. My memory of how I set it up is a little fuzzy but it worked for a long time. After the Time Machine failure, the Disk Utilities showed different format for the drive and the partition - which bothered me a little and was one of the reasons I bought a new drive. I was thinking about reformatting the drive but now I won't until I know what has gone wrong.
    That could have been part of the problem with the first one, but it's doubtful.
    So what do we do now?
    I don't recall hearing that DU wouldn't even offer +*Repair Disk+* on a drive it could recognize. But if DU won't repair the file system, and you don't have +Disk Warrior+ or other such apps, your only choice is to erase it and let TM start over. In this case, it's probably worth the time to see if DU can write to the entire disk.
    Select the top line of the drive, then click the Erase tab. Then click +Security Options+ at the bottom, then +Zero Out Disk+ and OK on the next screen, then confirm.
    That will, of course, take quite a while. If it fails, the disk is toast. But it should be covered by warranty, at least.
    If the zero-out succeeds, it doesn't necessarily mean the disk is good, but since it's new, it probably is. TM will, of course, do a new, full backup, which will also take a while.
    What sort of disk is this? LaCie had a run of bad power supplies lately (your symptoms don't seem to be the same, though), and WD has some firmware updates. You might want to check with the maker for driver and/or firmware updates.

You may need to repair or reformat the disk using Disk Utility. If the disk can’t be repaired, you must use a different disk for backups. Open Time Machine preferences to select a different backup disk."
    The problem is, this has happened with three separate backup drives. They are all G-Tech 2TB 4th Generation G-Drive external hard drives. So I'm wondering if there may be a Mac OS software problem, or perhaps a hardware problem.
    There's a lot to this story, so if you're game, read on.
    First, about a year ago, I noticed that my Mac Pro frequently spontaneously ejected the backup drive, for no apparent reason. I didn't deal with the problem right away because I was having other, pressing troubles with my display (which took forever to solve).
    In early-mid 2013, I tried a few disk repairs of my backup disk, as well as erasing the disk (and correctly formatting as Mac OS Extended Journaled). The disk was failing to mount at that point, so G-Tech sent me a replacement drive (a refurbished drive of exactly the same type).
    With the replacement drive, I was getting the same "read-only" message. So I tried a few times erasing/reformatting/repartitioning this drive. No luck.
    So I was sent yet another replacement drive. I experienced the same problems, and in addtion, I once got a message saying the backup drive was full when it actually wasn't. So I tried a) using a different firewire cable, b) using this different cable on a different port. Same problems.
    In the meantime, I did some backups with an old Glyph drive, using the same FW800 port, and the same cable (the 2nd cable), and I had no problems. The reason I don't use this Glyph drive as my normal backup drive is that it is only 500 GB and not large enough to back up all three of my MP internal drives.
    A couple other items of note: back in August of 2013, one of my MP's internal hard drives had to be replaced (it was determined to be having multiple input/output errors). Also, I've had a intermittent problem with the MP spontaneoulsy ejecting a couple different Lexar USB flash drives, even after I reformatted them repeatedly (but this has never happened with my ADATA flash drives). I suppose these things may be unrelated, but for the sake of completeness, I thought I'd include them.
    So it seems like maybe it's a compatibility issue the G-Tech Drives? I'd be surprised...but I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Read only error after instalation

    I was using the Arch 0.7 beta2 build for a while and everything was, more or less, fine, I finally decited to update to 0.7 and now after I install I get a buch or "filesystem is read-only" errors and then it frezes when starting hotplug,  I love Arch, the philosophy is what I have been looking for, I hope someone can help,  Even Gentoo can't muster the speed!

    you can start with disable hotplug,
    you should also use udev instead if devfs, just edit your menu.lst(devfs=nomount) and your fstab to static naming scheme, (/dev/hdx),
    if that not help it could be some form of apm/acpi trouble, there are afew kernel parameters you could try as a workaround for that, can't remeber them in my head right now but i think a popular one is "noapic",

  • Time Machine - External Hard Drive Read only error

    Just recently got a Iomega 1TB MiniMax FireWire 800 USB 2.0 Desktop Hard Drive and used Time Machine to backup my computer. This was my first time using Time Machine and it successfully backed up 350 GBs. It continued to do backups every hour. When I turned my computer off and then turned it on the next day Time Machine wouldn't allow me to do a backup because it said the hard drive was read only. When I checked info it said it was read/write. I used disc utility to verify disc it said it could not verify disc do a disc repair. Disc repair failed and it said reformat disc. I erased the hard drive tried again and I got the same error message. The hard drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I searched this forum and the trouble shooting links and couldn't find anything on how to correct this. Any help on this problem would be appreciated.

    This was posted in the Apple Discussions by V.K. I have only modified it slightly to be more generic.
    The problem seems to be that 10.5.6 changes permissions on a file so that even the root user doesn't have write peivileges. I have no idea why they did this. The workaround suggested in [an]other post will probably work, too, but i did something less drastic. Instead of deleting the file I changed permissions on it, and it worked just fine. An added benefit is that the permission change seems to stick, so you don't have to delete the file every time you change a drive.
    [Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt [enter] the following command:
    sudo chmod 644 /volumes/"TM drive name"/.xxxxxxxxxxxx
    The name of the file .xxxxxxxxxxxx is based on the MAC address of your computer and will be different for every computer. Put the name of the TM drive in the above and keep the quotes.
    You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) which is normal.

    Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Since hard drive restore, backup gives Disk Repair, Read-only errors

    Hi all -
    After a hard drive crash last week, I restored the new HD using my historically reliable wireless Time Capsule (TC) with Time Machine (TM). But ever since, backups have ceased to work. Now, TM spins for about an hour before returning the following errors in sequence:
    (1) DISK REPAIR: "The disk 'Backup of [my name] Macbook' was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible."
    (2) TIME MACHINE ERROR: The backup volume is read only. To select a different volume, open System Preferences and choose Time Machine."
    I very much doubt there is an actual problem with the TC disk itself; my wife's iBook G4 continues to backup to it without any problem whatsoever. Related threads have suggested:
    a) doing clever things with Preferences, such as deleting the com.apple.TimeMachine.plist file and re-booting. However, for some reason (perhaps related to the source of the problem?) I have no such file...
    b) using Disk Utility to re-format and/or re-partition (these terms mean little to me) the TC disk. But my Disk Utility doesn't see the TC. (Perhaps related, I no longer actually see the little backup disk icon on the desktop.) And as I've said, I doubt very much it's the TC disk itself that it is the problem.
    I have of course tried re-booting everything, as well as un-mounting and re-mounting the TC: Computer, heal thyself! No luck.
    Any guidance is appreciated...
    (PS If there's a log file I should post that might help with diagnostics, just let me know where to find it.)

    I have suffered the same error messages, but without a hard disk crash before it.
    I copied the backup-file from the TC to a separate drive, erased the TC, re-installed it, copied the backup-file to the TC en re-initiated TM only to be welcomed with the 'The backup volume is read only'-message again.
    Beats me why this happened. Most frustrating part, however, is that I am not able to restore from the backup-file. Any suggestions are highly appreciated!

  • Import (Tbl Load) without LOG - Tbls read-only (error: -115 and -126)

    Hi everybody,
    I'm very new to this things, so I'am sorry for mistakes, but I see no other way, then bothering you with what makes me crazy, so I startet in distributing this help scream a little bit more than perhaps needed.
    But I have a problem with my SAP DB 7.4 on Windows 2000 SP4, setting the permissions of tables, I loaded with the loadercli, what I cant't solve.
    The data is okay, the application runs (as long as nobody is trying to update, delete or insert data), but I can`t find any option to set the permissions of the tables, neither in the DB Manager nor in the SQL Studio.
    For better understanding what I have done:
    I exported the 7.4 DB with the 7.6 loader from a desktop computer and imported it into my server-DB. The 7.4 loader was not able to do this, so I tricked it out the hard way by substituting it with the one packed to the newest MaxDB version.
    Now everything is read-only, because I forgot (or more precise: I didn't expect this to be that really BIG problem) to export and import the LOG.
    The desktop DB was cleared/killed/deleted after my application runs on the server. (I idiot didn't test to update/delete or insert data)
    I gathered a lot of information via google and the SAP DB Library, but non helps me.
    The Library only says:
    -115: Table is read only
    Explanation:
    The attempt was made to perform an <INSERT>, <UPDATE> OR <DELETE statement>. But the specified table only allows reading SQL statements because it was previously loaded with the NOLOG option.
    User Action:
    The read-only mode can be implicitly cancelled saving data or pages using the database administration tool.
    I understand, because I loaded no LOG, that there is no LOG.
    And the resulting error of this I understand too, which is called: -126 Databackup missing (Backuphistory lost) (which is not descriped in the library)
    But why is it not possible to start from this point, with a new log, and the old data? (that is consistent)
    So I perhaps need to know 2 things to solve this (I think):
    1. How can I reinitialize/recreate/reconfigure a LOG and the Backuphistory?
    2. What do I need to do next to set the permissions back to R/W?
    Sorry for that many questions and my unknowing, but I can't help myself anymore and my company must work with their application.
    Any suggestions to solve this problem are welcome with high gratification!

    I did a complete Backup with the GUI, and you were fully right, it runs again!!! Thanks a lot for this tip. Till Friday I have had called me a professional programmer, but I feel like a newbie now, with a lot to learn about DB.
    If the exists a link to deeper knowlegde about this behavior I will for sure start reading, is there any?
    I offer in making an addition to the SAP 7.4 Documentation related to this. When I also know that perhaps nobody except me is using SAPDB 7.4. But again thanks for the help.

  • Saving issues: "The file may be read-only" error message

    I do a lot of scanning to pdf and will often have to add a newly scanned page to an existing archived pdf then resave it.
    I have a very consistent workflow and use two screens. The folders that contain the archived files are always on my second screen while I work on the main screen.
    After I have inserted the newly scanned page into the existing pdf very often I get an error message that the file cannot be saved:
    The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open. Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder.
    I am the only user, none of files are read-only, and I am certain that the file I am resaving is not selected (I can see that on my second screen).
    Sometimes if I just click on the second screen to another folder it'll let me resave, but other times I have to close Windows Explorer completely.
    I like to avoid renaming files: it's important to that the original filename be retained.
    This seems to be happening a lot more with Acrobat X Pro than it did with version 9. This is highly annoying.
    Any known workarounds?

    If in Windows (a Mac user would have to speak to this for that environment) -
    If Windows Explorer is "focused" on the file (i.e., file selected) or has "focus" on the file(s) parent folder/directory you will get the alert dialog.
    Close Windows Explorer or place its focus elsewere.
    Also, if the preview feature is used for files within a folder (or for files in nested sub-folder) you'll experience similar "speed humps" in the work flow path.
    Was not always this way but OS updates (XP, Vista, etc.) appear to have given us some nifty new options that, coincidentally, pose some gotchas.

  • Help with a cd read only Error Please

    I am trying to copy a Turbotax PDF file to a CD-R cd. When I drag it over from the desk top or try to save it to the cd or do a save as PDF from Turbo tax I get the error that the CD is read only. I have already saved something on it. I have tried to go into the finder and change it to read-write but i can not do that even after unlocking it. Can anyone help me learn how to make the CD to a writable cd so I can save the PDF file ? thank you very much

  • "The selected cells are read-only" error on Custom Field when trying to insert in Datasheet mode

    I have a custom field that works completely fine. Yesterday our QA team found out that when trying to insert in Datasheet format, the error "The selected cells are read-only" was thrown. Any ideas? I tried passing the following property to my fldtypes_field.xml file:

    The ODBC driver is read-only, which is fine, the purpose of this
    project is to display reports, not data entry. Anyway, when I test
    the query in DW CS3, everything is good, I get the results as
    expected. When I upload the page to the remote server and test the
    page I get:
    HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error
    Internet Information Services
    Technical Information (for support personnel)
    * Error Type:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E21)
    Field is read-only
    /job_details.asp, line 21
    I am not updating or inserting, so I do not understand this
    error. I also can't find anything on this specific error anywhere.
    Anyone got any ideas about where I should start looking?

    Normally, I would advise against DSN and recommend an OLEDB
    connection, but
    I've never used that type db, don't know if a string is
    possible.
    www.connectionstrings.com does not show a string for it, so I
    can't help.
