Network issue after upgrading to OSX 10.4 from 10.3.9
After upgrading to 10.4 the network seemed to be working fine, internet works, mail works fine, but on the finder network menu I had some problems. Selecting the network menu brings up the menu and selecting network a folder displays named MyNetwork not local. All of the servers and other macs are shown in the next colu mn on the form. I cannot connect to them. Opening the icon for any of the nodes results in the message The alias to the "Node" cannot be opened because the original item cannot be found. This message box provides the option to fix alias, or delete the alias. The fix alias does not accomplish anything and the delete alias gives an error that I do not have the privileges to delete the "Node".
I am fairly new to working with apple (2 weeks.). I am guessing that a file was not moved during the upgrade. I would like to learn how to correct this problem.
Hi Tom, and a warm welcome to the forums!
The fix alias does not accomplish anything...
I've never heard of it working for anybody either!
Try this, in Finder>Preferences>Sidebar, toggle off the Show Network Icon, Find the IP of the iMac in it's Network Pref Pane>TCP/IP tab. In finder, select Go menu>Connect to Servers..., then on the PB, type in afp://ip.of the iMac, like...
afp://10.0.1.5
afp://192.168.1.3
(smb:// if PCs), if it connects then reboot, then toggle that setting back on.
Where are we now?

Networking Issues after Upgrading to Windows 8.1
I have a Windows 8 desktop PC that is working fine with my network. I can browse the Internet fine using all major browsers etc. After upgrading to Windows 8.1 through the Windows Store I noticed that my wired networking was not working correctly.
The status of the network does not change (i.e. it doesn't change to Limited Connectivity) however browsing to sites in Chrome, IE or Firefox doesn't work as well as Windows 8.
IE11 gives me the error "This page can't be displayed, make sure the web address is correct" and other browsers give a similar error. I normally have to refresh 2-3 times to get a new page to load, sometimes even more. Everything works
fine from a laptop connected at the same time so it isn't an network issue with my provider.
I thought this might be a driver issue with the two on-board Marvell wired network adapters. I wasn't able to rollback the driver to older versions I found on the Internet. I then purchased another network card, Intel Desktop gigabit and the
issue still persists with that adapter. I then tried a USB wireless adapter and the issue still persists using wifi with the wired adapters disabled. I tried a new network cable and no luck either. I also tried resetting the IP stack using
the various netsh commands.
After that I thought I might try reset the Windows 8.1 PC, however that didn't work as I didn't have the restore image available as I upgraded from the Windows Store. I then tried installing Windows 8.1 fresh using a ISO with my Windows 8 key using
some of the recent guides that are available. That all worked but it didn't fix the networking issues.
I re-installed Windows 8.0 and the networking is now fixed and back to working normal again. I'd like to try again but I think I will have the same problems. I can't imagine why this would be a driver issue as I tried 3 different network adapters
and two installs of Windows 8.1. Any ideas what would be the cause of the Windows 8.1 issue?HI,
Since this issue only occurred in the your desktop PC, and many network adapters you tried, failed, thus I think maybe we should focus on the model of your desktop PC, I suggest you update the BIOS and chipset from the manufacture to improve
the performance of win8.1.
Please also test this issue in safe mode with networking.

The issue occurs in safe mode as well under Windows 8.1. The motherboard is an Asus P5B Premium, however it works on Windows 8. How would I update the chipset when booted into Windows 8.1? In Device Manager it wasn't allowing me to update
the network drivers as they were newer versions already installed.
Edit: I also installed at Intel Chipset Device software dated 8/8/2013 with version 9.4.0.1026 and the issue still occurs. I am also running the latest BIOS that is available. -

Networking Issues after Upgrading to Mavericks
After installing Mavericks, my mac mini must be connected to my Laptop and roommates PC to play my screensaver slide show. All the pics are on my mac mini's hard drive. It also will not allow me to change the pic file in System Prefrences, unless it is connected to the other computers. I am frequently getting the message that the mac mini can not connect to these computers. I choose the option to dismiss but it will come up again and again, not satisfied with my choice. Now I leave the box alone and work arond it but it always stays on top of all the windows making it super annoying.
I have tried moving the Pic folder. Copying the pics to another folder. I have activated each pic throught preview to see which ones maybe still linked to the other computers. I did this while leaving the wi-fi on so that if one of the pics was on another computer the Mini would mount that computer to the desktop, but none did.
While leaving the wi-fi on and connected to the other computer I am able to change the pic file for the screen saver. I choosed a folder that I know have pics that have only been on my Mac Mini. I then terminated the Wifi and the same problem happens. The system prefrence screen saver will show that it is loading the pics and will not allow me to choose any folder. Says "loading...."
I have turned off the sharing on the laptop and the Mac Mini. I don't touch my roommates PC.
I feel as if this has something more to do with the System Prefrence / screen saver program
I also have a problem with my Finder crashing and having to do a hard reboot to fix it.
This was not a problem before the upgrade to mavericks.
PLEASE HELP ME FIX THIS!UPDATE!!!! Now it seems all the Mac Mini want to do is connect to those two computers. I don't have to open the screensaver prefs for the Mac Mini to now proclaim that it has failed to detect my roommate's and the laptop computers. At least now I can say OK and the warnning box will go away for about 30 seconds before it pops up again! I can not connect to these computers anymore and this is SUPER ANNOYING! I have also checked both these computers and they do not contain any pictures that I was using for my screensaver. Which I changed to a genric apple one, and it still required to connect to those computers to actavate that screensaver.
ANY One out there with a Fix?????????????? -
Major iTunes library issues after upgrading to OSX Mavericks...
Hello
I recently upgraded iTunes and OSX Mavericks on my MacBook Pro and it appears to have played haywire with my iTunes library. I've lost almost half of the songs in most albums. The missing songs now show up with an exclamation point next to them and if i try to play them iTunes prompts me to locate them manually.
I have iTunes match but it's not clear how to restore prior purchases - in the iTunes store my albums just show up as 'purchased'.
For the stuff i burned from CDs years ago I assume my only option is to restore from an old backup.
Can anyone help?
ThanksThe option key... I've been holding down the command key... No wonder that didn't work. I should really be writing this stuff down!.
Regardless, Downloading and reinstalling iTunes did the trick.
Thank you mende1 & saffron63 for the assist! -
MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5
After upgrading to OSX 10.8.5, my MacBook does not detect any wireless nertworks. My iPad and iPhone work fine, my router has been rebooted, WiFi is turned on, and the ethernet connection is how I am writing this message to you via broadband. There are a half dozen wireless networks in range (according to my iPhone) but the MacBook cannot find the router I am sitting next to. Any ideas on how to correct this issue?
It appears an SMC reset was required:
HT5815 I've just done the 10.8.5 update on my MacBook Pro end of 2008, and WiFi don't work after reboot... Impossible to activate it...
Here is your other post: MacBook can't see my home wireless network after upgrade to OSX 10.8.5
If you reply to it and marked it "solved", perhaps with a link to that post (copy and paste it, or just say you performed the SMC reset) it will help others find a solution. Thanks! -
Hi
After upgrading to osx 10.9.3, my external hard drive was not able to mount, but it can be mounted without issue in osx 10.6, how do I solve it? it was formatted by disk utility.
Thanks
PTFrom the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power Adapter
and uncheck the box labeled Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible, if it's checked.
If the drive has more than one interface (USB, FireWire, Thunderbolt, eSATA), try one of the other interfaces.
Check that the data cable is securely inserted at both ends.
Try a different cable.
If you're connecting the drive through a hub, connect it directly to a built-in port on the Mac.
If you're connecting it directly, try a different port.
Disconnect all other devices on the bus, or as many as possible.
Test the drive with another Mac. Test another drive with this Mac.
If the drive is bus-powered, but has an AC adapter, connect the adapter.
Start up in Recovery mode and launch Disk Utility. Is the drive recognized?
Start up in Safe Mode and test.
Reset the NVRAM.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If the drive doesn't work under any of the above conditions, and if another drive does work with the same Mac, then the drive has failed. You may be able to salvage the mechanism by removing it from the enclosure and installing it in another one, or in a drive dock. -

After upgrading to OSX Mavericks my BT peripherals temporarily stop working
I have a MacBook Pro 2009 with 4GB Ram, my only BT peripherals are a Logitech BT keyboard and Apple Magic Mouse. After upgrading to OSX Mavericks the day of it's release the overall performance of my MacBook was increased and I was/am very happy with it. My major gripe/annoyance is that upon opening a new application BT connectivity is totally lost and I have to revert back to my MacBook's keyboard and touchpad for a few seconds before BT comes back, and when it comes back it works flawlessly until I open another app or switch between certain apps. This issue is new since the OSX Mavericks upgrade, and my hardware setup has remained unchaged from day 1. It sounds like a software issue, and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or has discovered a solution. I have cycled power on the machine, and have left it completely off for 24 hrs before booting it back up with the same issue. This isn't major, just annoying. The only other thing I have is with Mail and my GMail account seeming not to sync up correctly. Messeges archived on my iPhone 4S still show as unread on my Mail app even hours after the archive and both devices on the same wireless network, This never happened before the upgrade to OSX Mavericks... Everything used to sync up perfectly... Anyone have any ideas as to what may be going on??? Thanks!!
Thanks Barry!!! I only reset the SMC and after booting up the system, bluetooth has maintained connectivity after switching between apps, open/closing apps works just as before!!! Thanks again!!! I can't believe such a simple work around would fix such an annoying issue. BTW I didn't reset PRAM, didn't see the need to because everything works just fine now. If I could only get the Mail app to correctly sync up I'd be perfect!

I am facing wifi and mobile 2G signal issue after upgrading to IOS 6 from IOS 5 in IPhone 3GS. The mobile carrier signal as well as WIFI suddenly drops zero and are then restored automatically. Sometimes i cannot conenct to WIFI even standing infront of WIFI router. Please help, restoring setting even didn't helped.
Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
3. Do a soft and hard reset.
4. Reset network settings.
5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :) -
Safari showing text as boxes with A in them after upgrade to OSX lion
Hi,
After upgrading to OSX Lion and the new Safari that comes with it 6.0. It is showing a lot of the charachters on some websites as a box with a capital A in them. These are then pastered all over the site.
If i go to other browsers it is fine. Also when i copy and paste these A boxes it to the search bar it shows the correct text. But when viewing the page it is impossible to view the text and makes for an unpleasant browsing experience.
Any idea how to fix this issue? Is it a font issue? I have not changed any of my fonts and I would assume that the browser would be using a standard web font.
Any help on solving this riddle would be appreciated.
Thank you.Font problems and management in OS X

IPhone 4s issues after upgrading to IOS 8
Have few issues after upgrading to iOS 8
- Phone hangs every few hours, reboots automatically
- Bluetooth does not work properly (call does not get disconnected or even if disconnected on phone, the car bluetooth shows call is on)
- Searching for contacts is a problem
- Apps hang (especially facebook)
Any way to go back to iOS 7 ?
Any other tips / tricks appreciated..
VenkatNo way to come back to iOS 7 ...
But did you tried to reset all settings (general -> reset -> all settings) ?
For me iOS 8 was a mess on a 5S, especially car Bluetooth, and all works now fine after resetting the settings (all settings, not only network settings). -
IPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maveric
Has anyone noticed that iPhoto is extremely slow after upgrading to OSX Maverick
I've noticed that it isn't.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
