Network issues with Leopard fresh install

I have an iBook that I was running Leopard on with no issues yesterday. It is no longer my main computer, so I wanted to wipe everything and start from scratch with a fresh install of Leopard. The install went smoothly. I did an Erase & Install setup from a Leopard Upgrade disc (but already had Leopard on my system so upgrade verified OK). When I booted up for the first time, it appeared everything was working normally.
I went online, downloaded a couple pieces of software I frequently use, and then started to set things up. This is when I ran into issues. I could browse the web without a problem. I could set up email with POP access, but not IMAP. AIM with Adium connects just fine. Tweetie won't connect. Dropbox won't connect. It's like some ports are being blocked, but others aren't, and I can't figure out why.
I have tried/verified:
OSX firewall is off
Restarted router/cable several times
iBook is in router's DMZ- outside of router firewall
Repaired permissions
Reset PRAM
Anyone have any suggestions or other troubleshooting ideas?

Here are the steps to selling*:

Mac Pros that shipped with Leopard should install from the Mac Pro labelled discs. Those that came with pre-Leopard, you should still include the Mac Pro discs, though if you desire to install Leopard on them, you should also include the Leopard discs that are retail. Leopard retail looks like * and do not say Upgrade, DropIn, or OEM.

  • Networking issue with Leopard 10.5.2, Arris Touchphone, Netgear WRG614 v4

I recently upgraded to Leopard 10.5.2 and now having long hang times of 15 seconds (if I connect at all) to internet. It's not a signal issue, AND I have a PC that flies on same wireless network.
The same time I loaded new OS, Comcast came in a changed out my Motorola SURFboard SB5120 modem for Arris Touchtone Telephony modem. I am still using the Netgear WRG614v4 with the most updated firmware(V5.0_07)
Of course, I wasn't sure if not being able to connect to internet was a Leopard issue or a networking issue. After many hours of troubleshooting...
    1. MANY hard resets through cable company AND buttons on both modem and cable
    2. Applied all the newest Updates to 10.5.2 which fixed the issue for about 2 hours, then back to crawling
    3. Changed the channel on the Netgear from 11 to 9
    4. Went to Starbucks AND Panera Bread and had fast connectivity even from the parking lot!
Although I expect some issues to pop up from the new OS, I now believe the connectivity issue is with either the new modem or router. Comcast insists that their firmware is up-to-date and is automatic.
Should I get a new router? HELP

I've been on the road and everything is working fine, but now I'm back home and the same issues.
BUT for some reason, after a day, something switched up and now the mac is on-line and the PC is not. They are definately fighting each other. Even the wireless printer is wacked. Sometimes when I try to print from the mac, it can't connect to the printer. I then either restart the mac or restart the printer, and it goes through.
The other issue now is that all the lights on the Arris modem are blinking. Comcast is saying something is wrong. They are coming out today. Wonder if I just got a bad modem....

  • Can I Wipe a new machine that came with Leopard and install Tiger

I like Leopard at home but at work on our network Leopard does not play well. I have a dual 3.2 Quad Core. Can I do a format and start with a fresh install of Tiger?

My question was answered. I can not wipe my machine clean and go back to Tiger until my IT department decides to embrace the fact that the graphics departments within our company use MAC's and always will. All was well with Tiger and our network or at least we had worked through all of the issues we had and then me and the guy I work with got new machines with Leopard on them. We have one guy in IT that claims to be the go to MAC guy but sometimes I wonder, seems my partner and I know more about MAC's than the IT department but our suggestions when we give them do not seem to be welcome. Thanks for the answers.

  • Multiple issues with Leopard (Network, Pages, iPhoto, iTunes, General)

    It's been so much fun.
I have 3 macs right now, per my profile.
I started updating the G4 because it's the experimental system, the MacPro is production, and the MacBook is for the kids and for me to wander the domain and still be productive. These Macs and some other things sit behind a Linux/iptables firewall.
1st issue: After updating the G4 certain web sites have been inaccessible, including just about any apple sites behind SSL, ADC, iTunes Music Store, iPhoto Store (calendars, books), Network Solutions, Newegg, etc. However, as of 10.4.11 on the other 2 Macs, 10.5.1 and 10.4.11 had parity, or close to it, in networking.
2nd issue: The other problem I had right off the bat was remote printing to the MacPro which has an Epson Stylus Photo printer hooked up. At the time this was first noticed, the MacPro was 10.4.11 and the computer I was attempting to print from was 10.5.1. I erroneously thought that had to do with the disparity on OS versions. Not so. The result of trying to print anything to the remote printer is the immediate cratering of the app you're printing from, Safari, Pages, Firefox, Preview. I can reproduce this at will.
3rd issue: Straight from the previous 2 issues, I can't log any problem reports. This is frustrating.
I initially didn't see the problems that I saw a lot of people registering on here, other than the ones I noted above, and as far as the networking thing went, 10.4.11 and 10.5.1 were equally cr*y. So, I bit the bullet and upgraded several things, iLife '08 (which I couldn't adequately check out on the G4), iWork '08 which I hadn't had any problems with, and Leopard on the remain 2 macs.
Issue 1 was, as expected, no better or worse, and more and more talked about on these discussions. I thing that helped, notably to allow me to finally login to the discussions, rather than just read them, was:
    sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.pathmtudiscovery=0
Thanks to mreckhof for that little gem
This helped with the login here, but didn't help with anything else. And in retrospect, 10.5.1 is much worse then 10.4.1 as far as the networking goes. When/if I expose the mac by putting it outside the firewall, it's actually much much worse than it used to be. There are several places where any of the Macs directly connected to the internet are completely useless for talking to websites, DNS, and other things. The web site problem is that more than a handful don't load. Most of these make heavy use of akamai, as apple does. The Linux Firewall and exposed Linux desktops don't have this problem.
Right now, I can't buy or use a few of the bought things from iTunes Music Store. I could not order calendars from iPhoto, which shot holes in several of our holiday gifts to friends and relatives. I can't purchase or update several things with other online vendors from the mac, where I would usually do such things. There is a veritable litany of things, real monetary that I also can't do to earn money as well now that we've upgraded, but I'll get to that.
Issue 2 and issue 3 were unchanged.
4th Issue: iPhoto lost, on import, several photos and movies. This happened just recently. Currently the iPhoto library has around 30,000 photos and videos in it spanning the last several years. it's around 500GB. The problem was that after the import was "done" and it was cleaning off the memory card, it crashed. The imported items were not successfully imported, that I can find, and the memory card was successfully cleaned off. The images and movies appear to be lost completely. The problem is that we derive some of our income from the picture. There backed up in 2 different ways, but we have to be able to trust that they'll arrive safely for the backup to work. I'm rethinking that. I can't trust I photo so memory cards are filling up.
But I thought we still could do things with iPhoto with what is there. Woe is me.
Issue 5: Using Pages 3.0.1, and dragging photos from iPhoto to it, something that has brought good success in the past, and produced some great results, stopped working reliably, in a big way.
The document in question is about 80 pages long and contains a couple hundred photos, dragged and dropped from iPhoto. On or around page 62, Pages started throwing up a "Image file ****.jpg is corrupt and cannot be used, all other photos already imported blah, blah, blah." I'm paraphrasing at the moment because 1) Pages crashes, when you're lucky, soon after this and 2) when you're not lucky, the whole computer freezes in a non-recoverable way. The system log is littered with:

There were around 100 instance of the above error in at the same timestamp.
I'm not sure where it's trying to malloc this from, but the machine has 8GB of physical ram and plenty of space for swap. It normally reports 34GB of VM and when pages is started, 6+GB of real ram is available to it.
And the image isn't corrupt. I'm able to start a fresh document up and put a few pictures into it.
I am unable to cut and paste, use the media browser or otherwise to add more than an image at a time into the document. The same is, I still have the old pages around, and we had done a very similar thing with it, several times, but this one was started with 3.0.1 and saved as a 3.0.1 document. The amount of time put into it, at this point, is non-trivial.
When things go very badly, iPhoto and Pages conspire together to lock the computer up wholly and completely. I'm unable to kill Pages, at all, from the command line. I have been able to kill iPhoto from the command line, but it doesn't change anything, and I really hate to do it. If I issue a shutdown from the command line, it doesn't something is preventing us from getting a clean shutdown.
And I've had varying degrees of success registering my products, but they're all recent purchases and I've got serial numbers that appear to all them to work even if I'm unable to send in the registration over the internet. They're family versions.
Issue 6: Now that frequent hard restarts, I have mds and mdworker tacking up several CPUs on restart for an extended period of time. I've never been able to get any clarification on what these 2 processes do, but they keep my from doing anything useful for a good long period of time. Looking at the process listing, they appear to be in the MetaDataService suite of OSX apps, and that's about all I've been able to determine looking at man pages and several searches of apple sites.
Issue 7: Only on the G4 Mac, periodically I'll get the gray overlay of "You must restart your computer now." The thing is, things still appear to work somewhat, and what I've been able to see is that one of the CPUs appears to be offline in the activity monitor, which I always have up. I'm able to quit cleanly, AFAIK, out of most of the things I have running, but can't issue a normal shutdown, always requires hard reset (power button for 8 seconds or whatever the timeframe). spindump appears to be the culprit, or instigator. The CPU going offline is troubling. Not sure if I have a CPU going bad or a software problem with an app. The logs are riddled with all kinds of errors, but nothing indicative of what the problem is in fact.
This probably won't all post, and I don't expect everyone to take a stab at any and all of the issues. Just a less than gruntled user, and long time supporter, less than impressed lately. The features are big sellers and instigated a lot of the upgrade. For instance, I love spaces, some of the new themes in iDVD, and a lot of other things. I could do without the instability.

Oh, well that was a whole other kettle of fish:
Oh the G4 I attempted to install iLife '08 before Lepoard was available. About the only thing that installed cleanly was iPhoto. I ended up reinstalling everything back to iLife '06, and then upgrading back to the current stable version of the iLife '06 version. I didn't attempt a reinstall until after I upgraded to Leopard.
When I did reinstall, I made a iLife '06 folder, copied all iLife apps into it, and upgraded. Seemed to work, except for the part where iMovie gets left behind and iDVD is only mostly functional.
When I installed on the other 2 machines, it was after installing Leopard and all upgrades. On those 2 machines, I didn't bother with the copy, I just moved everything to the iLife '06 folder I created, and did a fresh install.
I didn't have to do anything with the iPhoto Libraries, that I can recall.
I always do an upgrade, never an archive and install. I've never had a problem with this back to 10.1 or 10.2.

  • Lion OSX major network issue with MacBook but cannot restore from Snow Leopard disk - help!

I have a network with an airport extreme with two expresses and a time capsule extending the network.  The network has a Mac, apple TV and two iphones which all connect absolutely fine.  The macbook did too, until I upgraded to 7.6.1 on the airports.  I took the airports back to 7.6 but the Mac simply isn't speaking properly to my extreme.  It drops, speeds up, slows down and works differently in different part of the house.
Been to Genius who said, macbook is fine, try either a completely fresh install on the mac, or reset the network.  The reset of the network hasn't worked, so I wanted to reinstall snow leopard then lion on my mac.  Put the disk in, and it came up with the error can't install the Mac OSX from the install Mac OSX disc.  I have therefore tried the original leopard disks, which simply restart, chime and restart (continuously).
I need some help as this is my work computer and I don't seem to be able to get any help from anyone.
So I need to know the following:
    1) Has anyone got any other solutions for the extreme problem (have tried dragging out the preferences but that didn't work either);
    2) How do you reinstall an OS from the disk - as this in particular is a nightmare.
    3) Anyone able to suggest a work round??
Would be very grateful for assistance.
    Thanks

Hello ddownn and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Firstly it will help us diagnose your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running. That would include the OS and particulars about the Mac Pro.
"this system doesn't beep three times."
The normal diagnosis for that is RAM problems.
"I am able to complete the installation by using the DVD in my Mac Pro in Target Disk Mode with a FireWire cable"
But that shouldn't work because the install (build) would be particular to the Mac Pro.
"I recently installed a new HDD and formatted it from a Mac Pro via Target Disk Mode."
    Partitioned to GUID?
"disk spins up and stops about three times, then ejects and a folder icon with a question mark appears"
These DVD drives in these old laptops can often go bad. Try this:

  • Snow Leopard Fresh Install With Time Machine Restore

Alright so I have been having problems with my MacBook. For the last few months it has been really slow and laggy. I have tried almost everything to speed it up. I have run anti-virus software, I have deleted any Apps that I thought could have caused the problem. After all that I still can not figure out what is causing it to be so slow. So I decided a fresh install would be the way to go, only I have a few concerns. The first was my music and movies, I didn't want to loose those so I backed them up to an external harddrive that has 2 partitions (one for files the other for Time Machine). So thats not a concern any more. My next concern was for Final Cut Studio. I have it on my MacBook, but I do not do much editing on it because I use my Mac Pro for that. But I still need it on my MacBook for when I'm out of my office and need to work on something. I do not currently have the installation disk for Final Cut Studio (my boss does so I could get it if I really need it) and I'd really also like to not have to go through the 8 and a half hour installation of it again. So would it be possible to restore the entire Final Cut Studio through Time Machine after a clean install? (I would use an old backup from before it got slow so that it wouldn't restore what ever is messing it up) I have read on some forums that you can not restore the Pro Apps such as Final Cut Studio and Aperture... etc., but on other I have read that you can. If this is possible can some one walk me through the process so that I don't have to reinstall it all? Much Thanks if you can!

    timcrenshaw wrote:
First off I'm just trying to restore the pro apps from way before the problem first started
Most likely, your only choices are a full restore of your entire system from an earlier date; or reinstalling those apps with their original installers. Unless you know what and where all the other things those installers put on your system are, you'll have pieces missing, and the apps won't work properly, if at all. Worse, they may appear to be fine at first; you may not notice problems for a while.
and really the only other thing I want to restore is my music which as said before its all backed up.
Depending on how that was done, you should be able to restore the entire iTunes folder.
As for anti-virus I had Norton back when I first tried to figure out what was wrong but since then the subscription has run out and I have been using iAnti-Virus (it was CNet's top choice for mac)
Both of those are notorious for causing all sorts of problems with Macs. Norton, in particular, is almost impossible to remove entirely, as it puts all sorts of things in all sorts of places, and a number of background jobs that interfere with your Mac if you don't exterminate them. There are similar reports about iAnti-Virus, too. Search the +Snow Leopard+ forum for them -- you'll see what I mean.
Many of us run no anti-virus software at all (again, there aren't any for OSX, although there are some Trojans). For those folks worried about passing PC viruses among their PC friends, the (free) ClamXav is most often recommended in these forums, for being as effective as any others, but without much negative impact. For more detail, see this post by Klaus1: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10942146&#10942146 or: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307964
Take the time to be sure you've really eliminated all the leftovers, or don't inadvertently restore them -- they may very well be part of your problems.
As for deleting Apps if it had an uninstaller I used it but if not then I used AppCleaner.
That's good for most of them, but as I understand it, won't get all the Norton stuff. I don't know if it will get all the iAnti-Virus pieces.
The problem seem to really be bad when I open Firefox and iTunes
As for deleting caches I have not
You might want to try that. Download the free OnyX app from: http://www.titanium.free.fr/index_us.html
Click the Cleaning icon in the Toolbar, and each of the tabs it shows (I omit the +Form Values+ and Cookies items in the Internet section, and some of the log; you may want to select or omit others).
and I haven't looked at the logs either
That may be worthwhile. Use the Console app (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
When it starts, click +Show Log List+ in the toolbar, then navigate in the sidebar that opens up to your system.log and select it. If it's grayed out and you can't select it, the account you're using doesn't have permission to view them. Sign on with an Admin account.
That will open the current log at the end (bottom). Scroll upwards to view more of it. Don't be alarmed -- most of what you see there is gibberish to us mere mortals!
What you're looking for is anything dire-sounding, such as +*failed, exited with code, exited abnormally, I/O error,+* and, especially, +*throttled respawn,+* or anything repeated over and over.
If you see anything like that, copy and post a reasonable amount of it here.

  • HELP: Mail issues with Leopard

I have been having an issue with Mail since I upgraded to Leopard. I am getting the following message when I wake my Mac from sleep:
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account “[email protected]” or try again. The server error encountered was: The server “mail.mac.com” cannot be contacted on port 143.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? Mail seems to work fine otherwise...

I had update problems with my PowerBook G4 as well. In my case the update stalled at Writing Package Receipt-it was installing 4 packages so I am not sure which one failed-but about this Mac showed 10.5.2 version-however the receipts were not anywhere -either in Software Updates/Installed Updates or in Library/Receipts/boms or in Console Logs-therefore, I concluded that the Update was only partial. I was unable to update it to completion using the independently downloaded Combo updates. So........., I restarted with the install DVD and did an Archive and Install (it reverted back to 10.5), then ran Software Update. It installed 7 items some of them relating to iTunes, iWork, iLife, QuickTime etc, including the combo 10.5.2 updater. It took an hour or two but everything finally installed. After that I ran Software Update again and it installed the Graphic Update. Now everything is fine except Permissions Verify/Repair takes quite long.

  • Strange issues with Leopard (Safari, Mail, speed)

I have a 20" iMac (white model) which I got in March of this year. I just upgraded to Leopard (did the upgrade path with the DVD. Nothing set in options or anything special). The upgrade went fine and 10.5 seems to be running ok. There are a few issues though that don't make much sense to me and I wonder if there is something amiss with my install.
    1. Safari and Firefox both won't resolve addresses anymore. If I type in apple in the address bar it takes me to Verizon's search engine to resolve. I have to type www.apple.com to get it to go to the site. I checked my PC to see if this was something Verizon was doing and it worked fine in Firefox. Also weird is I don't use Verizon's search engine, I use Google so why is it going there? How can this be fixed?
    2. With Mail when I send an e-mail and type someone's e-mail address with some of the accounts, it will resolve their name just fine. It removes their e-mail address and just shows their short name like it's suppose to. However, not all e-mail addresses do this. Some will show me the full address. Not earth shaking mind you, but a bit of a pain. This seems to be tied to the Verizon accounts. Gmail seems to resolve ok as do other e-mail addresses. I checked the address book and it is selected to show all smart names so that is set up right and since it works for some of the addresses, I assume that is not the issue.
    3. Safari seems slow. I don't know if this is a network issues (the PC seems fine in the other room). My airport speeds look good but going to site to site seems to take a long time. Other programs seem to take just a bit longer too. Even mousing over the Dock, you notice a slight hiccup before it pops up. Nothing insane mind you, just a slight...delay. I wonder if 1GB of RAM isn't enough to really do 10.5 well. Anyone have any feedback on that? Should I bump my RAM to 2GB to get better performance? What is the "sweet" spot as far as RAM goes? Is 2GB gonna really be the best (I don't do real intense things like Final Cut Pro or things like that) or is 3GB really the best bang for the buck? Tiger was awesome on the system but now it just seems a little slower. Should I have done a wipe of the HD and installed Leopard clean? I was told there really isn't any benifit of doing that so I chose the upgrade path to keep everything in tact. Any suggestions on how to speed things up?
Thanks for the help on all this.

Well I have the same problem #2
It seems that Mail will not resolve names in my address book but I can use the address button and search and select the names.
Also it seems that my preview window will not preview some messages and it just hangs there with a "Loading..." message. But I can actually click the message and see it fine.

  • Solution To Network problems with Leopard systems and tiger and vista

After lots of research and looking into sharing data with leopard systems and other os, i finally found a Solution. Before i state what you have to do to fix it here is what the problem is.
Mac Os x( Leopard) systems trying to find computers or share data to other systems on the same lan can't find each other or simply if are found cant share data with each other.
    Reason for the problem.
    - By default tiger , windows and some linux distro's automatically join WORKGROUP under workgroup in WINS. with leopard this is changed to join local under workgroup. This effectively causes the systems to fail to communicate with each other.
    - By default shared folders on leopard has smb not checked by default.
    Solutions
-in order to see computers on the same network or workgroup. find out the workgroup with which all the local machines are connected to, then on your leopard system goto Apple->System Preferences->network ->advance and head over to WINS tab from here either select your workgroup or type in your workgroup. hit ok then apply in the network window. ( restart your mac at this point int time and try browsing the computers in your network)
    - to make sure you can share folders with windwos machines goto apple->system preference ->Sharing. Make sure file sharing is selected then choose the folder you want to share or add a folder you want to share. next click on options and enable Share files and folders using SMB enter your password if it asks and then hit done.
hopefully this helps people with problems on their mac's. other wise you have three options if this is too much trouble install vmware fusion/parallels on your machine and install windows / install windows using bootcamp / and last get a windows machine ( although this choice is highly unlikely it's still a choice). Please note this is not a windows vs mac subject is just that apple has changed the network stack protocols and architecture so stuff is being done differently , you just got to think different to get stuff to work. but after it's all said and done all your system should work in harmony now.

Thank you all for replying. I upgraded to Tiger from Panther the first week and it worked AWESOME! I do have to say that I truly and beginning to feel like I'm having issues I would experience on a windows machine. I know that Apple will fix but it is frustrating that I'm having the issues that I'm having.
I just need to finish up the project I'm working on and then I'm going back. I'm currently without any admin rights on my computer but I'm working away. I actually don't know what to expect next so I'm just backing up my data from time to time and working hard to get this done and get back to Tiger (that will be a long process so don't want to get started).
Again thank you all! Also I want to call Apple about this but don't want to wait on hold for the tech. AND they are only open during business hours. Guess what, I work during business hours. What's up with that? Adobe is available all the time.

  • Graphic Issues with Leopard - iMac 24" White GeForce 7300 GT

Upon installing Leopard, I've noticed several graphics issues and general lag and delayed response with the interface. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.16ghz White early 2007, 3gb of RAM, with the GeForce 7300GT card. I have Time Machine disabled, and Spotlight has fully indexed.
When installing Leopard, I did an "Erase and Install" and have manually installed my Applications after the Leopard install. I'm using only a few applications that are all "Leopard ready" and have a relatively clean system at this point. I have also cleaned the PRAM, per the recommendations in some of the threads ive read, which didn't seem to correct the issue in this case.
It seems that any time I run any type of video or graphical application, such as Photo Booth, World of Warcraft, iChat, etc, I get a large amount of lag and slow response with the interface. Windows respond very slowly, and the applications freeze for 15-20 seconds. Even when not engaging any applications, opening folders in the finder as well as the dock appear to stall and respond very slowly.
Aside from these issues, Leopard has performed very well and I have had no other issues. Quicklook and coverflow all seem to respond very quickly and smoothly. My guess is that it may be driver related as it seems to be centered around items that are engaging the video card, though it is strange how some graphical effects seem to work smoothly while others are rather choppy. I have been watching the Activity Monitor and there don't appear to be any processes that are sucking up CPU, and nothing obvious that may be reducing performance.
I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar to this on similar hardware, or possibly may know what the culprit could be. My best guess, again, is that it could be the drivers or firmware with this specific hardware that I'm using.
    Thanks for your time

I've had the same graphics issues with my white iMac 24 (serial no starts W8638), but with the GeForce 7600 card. AppleCare got me to do all the usual stuff (reset PRAM, clean Leopard install etc) but problems continued. The usual pattern is that after a while horizontal lines appear (usually in Safari) and things deteriorate form then on until there is so much pixellation that I have to turn off and back on.
Yesterday I ran for several hours using SMCFanControl to set the fans to max and had no problems, so my suspicion is that the additional graphics requirements of Leopard are over-heating the graphics card or logic board.
The Apple engineer took the machine away today and said they'll probably replace the logic board and graphics card (I think they can't change one without the other in the iMac?).
Will be a few days but I'll report back on what repairs they make and whether they solve the problem. My fear is that any changes they make will have no effect if its a design problem and the card is just not up to the job without over-heating. Though it could be the card just needs a good clean
Has anyone else tried increasing fan speed?

  • Windows file sharing issues with Leopard

One of my clients has a Mac Mini server running Leopard with all updates installed. He has 2 Windows PCs in his office (1 XP and 1 Vista) and 1 MacBook Air running Leopard.
I created two folders in /Users/Shared and created a new full (standard) user account (SMB doesn't seem to like "share only" accounts). I turned off the OS X Firewall and set the two folders to be read/write shares for the new account I created. I turned on SMB sharing in Options.
On the Windows XP machine, I can read/write to the Mac Mini's shared folders just fine, however I cannot delete files for some reason. I always get an error saying the file is locked or I don't have permission to erase it. I tried moving the share folder to different locations, thinking it was a parent folder permission issue. No dice. It doesn't seem to matter who creates the file, I cannot delete it from the Windows computer. I can delete it fine from any Mac in the office.
    Any ideas?

The default behavior for the /Users/Shared folder is that you can only delete files you put in the Shared folder - this is called the "sticky bit." ie: User A saves/moves a file into Shared, User B can read/write that file but cannot delete it, User A can read/write and delete. The sticky bit can be set via Terminal.

  • Colour Management issue With Leopard and PS CS3

    Hi Everyone,
Since I have installed Leopard I am having colour management issues with Photoshop CS3 and my Canon i9950 printer.
My screen is calibrated with a Spyder and I used to ask Photoshop (in 10.4.11) to manage colour when printing and used the Spyder profile. Everything came out as I saw it on screen.
Now in leopard when I do the same thing everything comes out too yellow on the print. If I ask Photoshop to let the printer manage the colour it is too red. If I use the default colour management (photoshop managing the colour and it choosing the colour space it is better, but still too yellow).
Photoshop gives the hint to turn off colour management in the printer but there is no option for this and it also said the same thing before of course (when it worked in 10.4.11).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

You need to use the correct printer profile for the paper you're using. If the printer didn't come with any pre-built profiles, check Canon's web site to see if they have any profiles available for your printer that you can download.
Printer profiles are very specific. You can't take take a profile for glossy Epson paper and expect it to work very well for Canon glossy paper.

I'm having exactly the same problem, only my printer is a Canon Pixma iX4000. The colour is all bleached out, it looks exactly like when you've accidentally printed an RGB file on a CMYK printer, and at first I thought that was what I had done, but it isn't. This is very frustrating, I've spent all day going through the manuals, recalibrating etc, but no luck. This is a brand new Mac Pro and printer, but if its not going to print what I see on screen it's just expensive junk.
I wasn't sure if the problem was Leopard or the printer or CS3...

  • 10.4.8 network issue with some routers (Zyxel)

Since I have installed 10.4.8 there is a problem with my Zyxel Prestige 310 router, which after a short period of time "hangs up" - so nobody in the network has Internet conection ( PC's and other Macs with 10.4.7).
After restarting the router everything works fine, until I start a Mac with 10.4.8..
This happens on Intel and G5 Macs..
Today I had a long phonecall with my Provider here in Austria, who told me that a lot of people are having this problem - all with Zyxel Routers - but he doesn't know a solution.
He (and me) is waiting for a fix from apple...:-)

I also have an issue with the 10.4.8 update and a Zyxel router, although mine is not as severe as yours.
Mine has to do with WPA encryption and a timeout setting.
    The thread is here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3246932
    So, maybe this helps?
