  • MBP takes long time to restore wired network connection after wake-up

    Hello...
My Mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) has been experiencing this problem recently -- Whenever I wake up the computer from sleep, it needs approximately 10 seconds to restore its wired network connection. I know there are other annoying connection issues with MBP's WiFi/AirPort out there, but I'm talking about the wired connection here.
Maybe some don't even think this slowness is a problem at all, but this laptop used to be network-ready right after wake-up until 3~4 months ago. That was around the time when I upgraded to SSD and changed some settings via pmset, not sure if that's the culprit. It is now running OS X 10.8.5 and its pmset settings are:
    Battery Power:

Maybe try this, i am not sure that it will resolve the problem, but it is worth trying anyways.

    Hi All,
I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition.  The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd
party applications.  Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem.  I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues
    with network adapters.
The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service.  The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah".  Here's how to disable this service
    in Windows 7:
Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage'
Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services'
Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above
Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties'
Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service
Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list
    Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved.  If so, you should have internet connectivity again.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Aaron

  • After Lion upgrade, having network issues after wake from sleep

After upgrading to Lion from 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011), I am unable to connect to the Internet after the computer wakes from sleep.  I should rephrase this - I am able to ping IP's and DNS (DNS servers are present) however none of my apps will connect (Safari, iChat, etc) -> they all indicate the Internet is unavailable.  I have two Airport Express's running 7.5.2 extending a WiFi network off an Airport Extreme running 7.5.2.  This issue is specific to waking from sleep.  Any thoughts or suggestions would be appriciated.

It's definitely linked to Time Machine and backups.
I think If I put my machine to sleep/close the lid and Time Machine happens to be performing a backup, when I open the lid again, the network connection is lost and I receive a bunch of errors about the backup disk being unavailable.
This means that if my mbp isn't in the middle of a backup when I put it to sleep, wifi comes back up without a problem.

try the thing with ther kext  as seen on page 3 of this thread i guess from 10.8.5! That REALLY  solved my issue! MBA2013

  • Network flakyness after wake from sleep

Topic says it all...it's a strange thing. I HAVE network access...I can ssh and get email and web just fine. A couple apps though (RSS Menu, WeatherDock) tell me I don't have network access (via networked syslog server...LoL):
Feb 22 04:50:28 iMac RSS Menu[652]: Connection error: This computer’s Internet connection appears to be offline.
I can go into network prefs, make the interface inactive, then active again and it's fine. I can also ifconfig en0 down, ifconfig en0 up and it's fine, but eh...anyone else having this issue on a 27" iMac?

    Hi,
Sorry for this off-topic mail but.. I Couldn't mail you in a more discrete way and the thread that is was about is closed so… it was this or nothing.
I have the same error in my log file as you had in your post ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12720958&#12720958 ). It seems that you solved it, but you didn't say exactly how?
    Thanks!

  • WRT54G3G/Vodafone connect card - Network loss after a few hours or sometimes days

I have a Linksys WRT54G3G router with a vodafone mobile connectcard. I did setup the "keep alive" function to the nearest DNS servers to keep the modem alive 24/7. However after a few hours of somtimes after a few days. The modem "hangs" itselves. After a power-up of the modem it's start to work again. This modem is on a project location with no people available to reset the modem. At this moment we use a local timerswitch to reset (power off/on) the modem every 24 hour, but this is not really a solution. We're using the latest firmware. Please advise !

    Re ; WRTG3G-ST Disconnect - I am running 2.00.9 firmware with a Sprint S720 card.
The Router disconnects from the Internet after a few minutes of operation.
I have set 'Auto Connect' to both auto (1000 min)  and manual. and still get the disconnect.
Once it disconnects I cannot reconnect remotely even if I launch a browser or ping.
Pressing the Data Card button does reconnect to the Internet.
Some times it runs for hours.
My 3G signal in this area is not the geatest but I would expect the router to handle that.
Any suggestions on how to keep connected. .

  • Airport and network problems after recent update

I want to know if someone is aware of what went wrong with the latest OS updates, all my computers forget my local wireless connection and sometimes I'm connected to my co-workers unprotected red. Airport just won't do its job.
This issue is really frustrating since several applications like Flash for example give you and error when saving a file after reconnecting to your network after a network loss.
If someone knows how to work this around to stop this annoying behavior please advise, I'm sure I am not the only one experiencing this.
    Regards

    Dear Eyewake,
I have had the same problem recently, after QuickTime 7.1.1 upgrade. The only way I can now get wireless access is to leave the network unprotected at factory settings. At least one other person posting to this discussion list has this problem in the last week, but no replies.
Do you know where else we can try to get help?

  • Airport issue after wake from sleep (lion)

With 10.6, this was not a problem. With Lion, very often after wake up from sleep mode, the system is unable to reconnect to my airport extreme base station. Killing the prefs in the library did not help. Any suggestions?

My wife's Macbook has EXACTLY the same problem and I've been through dozens of suggestions trying to fix it and the problem still persists.
The problem started right after I upgraded to Snow Leopard but also installed an Airport Extreme router and WPA2 wireless encryption. I've deleted all the networks, changed the order to put the Airport as the highest preference, deleted all the keys on the keychain, ran DiskUtility, all to no avail.
I'm not sure if this is somehow related to the Airport Extreme or occurs with any router. Also, have another MacBook Pro (unibody), and it does't have this problem connecting to the same Airport Extreme.
The other factor is it is intermittent --- and doesn't always fail. Rebooting the Macbook or the router will get it to re-connect, as will shutting off and turning on the Airport several times. But that's not a solution to the problem.
Apple needs to pay attention to this as many people are now reporting the problem.

  • Reconnect NAS after wake up

    Hi,
If I set my Macbook Pro to standby mode and let it wake up again, the connection to the network drive in my network attached storage is lost. I have to reconnect manually using the apple-k command.
Is there a way to get these drives reconnected after wake-up automatically? This is definitely no issue with Windows - I wonder why it should not be possible on Mac.
(I am not talking about rebooting the machine, but about waking it up from standby - reconnecting automatically after a reboot can be done easily by adding the drives to my startup objects).
    Thanks
    Simon

    Hi Tomasz
    One question;
Do you speak about an external soundcard which is connected via USB to the notebook or do you speak about the inbuilt Realtek soundcard!!!
I know about a similar sound issue on Vista OS.
    I have read in the Microsoft knowledge base about similar problems;
    Please check this:

  • Networking disabled after reinstalling Tiger

I am experiencing network problems after reinstalling Tiger on my Macbook Core Duo:
-Airport worked fine after installation, but suddenly stopped
-Airport icon now says "Airport: Not Configured"
-Airport is greyed out in Network Port Configurations of Network Preferences, so it can't be turned on there
-System Profiler sees the Airport card but says it's currently turned off
To make matters worse, the ethernet port seems to be disabled as well. Although it is selectable in Network Port Configurations, nothing happens when I plug into my router.
Following the advice at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6507825, I repaired permissions, rebooted, reapplied the 10.4.11 Combo update, repaired permissions again, and rebooted. No effect.
Any ideas on what might be the issue? Thanks.

  • Blue Screen on MBA with Thunderbolt Display after wake-up

    I'm running a MBA (summer 2012, OSX 10.8.3) with a Thunderbolt display.
Very often after wake-up, I have a blue screen on the built-in monitor while the external display shows the login-screen. The MBA is frozen and I have to enforce a restart.
Any ideas to resolve the problem much appreciated.

ARD works only across a network, not via Target Display Mode. Your MBA will need to be connected to and active on your local network to be able to take control of your MBA from your MBP. I'm not certain if you can take control of a Mac connected via Target Display Mode, though I do know that applications on the system keep running, so it may be possible.
Note, though, that you don't need ARD to accomplish this assuming it is possible. The screen sharing feature built into OS X allows you to control on Mac from another with no extra software required.
    Regards.

  • AirPort won't reconnect after wake in OS 10.6.7

My iMac will no longer reconnect to my WiFi network after restart or wake from sleep.  I have to manually add my network (configured with hidden SSID so I have to type in the name and password) and then the connection is fine, until next sleep.  This only affects one of the two iMacs on our home network, and only started recently. I searched these discussions and only found old threads for OS 10.4 which don't apply as the Network Preferences dialog has changed.  I tried restarting the AirPort base station, turning AirPort on and off, and uninstalling Norton firewall I(which I thought might have been the culprit), all to no avail. I use OS 10.6.7, and an AirPort Extreme.  The network uses WPA2 Personal security.
How can I get AirPort to reconnect after wake again?  Any tips appreciated.  Thanks.

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

I am running FieldPoint Explorer version 3.0.1 and LabView 6.1 from Windows XP Professional. I set it up, and everything runs fine for 4 hours or more. I do not have the network watchdog enabled, and the FP1600 is in constant communication with the host computer in any case. Sometime in the middle of the night the communication is lost. The FP1600 link light
is on, and it is still receiving packets, but it will not respond to a ping or any other communications. Only a power cycle brings it back. The FP1600 is sitting right next to the host computer, both attached to the same network switch. There is no interruptio
n of network services to the two.

    Hi Heinz,
We are also trying to troubleshoot this same problem (Intermitten network connection loss with FP1600 Ethernet Module - Error code "33163", Error Message - "FP1600 Connection to module has been lost."). We have checked other possible causes for this sort of behaviour. Including independent assessment of netowork availability at the time of error reporting, connecting dedicated power supply to the FP1600 module, temperature of cabinet housing the module (which is between 10 and 50 deg C), disconnecting sensors connected to various I/O modules connected to this module, increasing duration of parameter "time out" (the time module will wait before reporting an error if it can not access network). However, none of the above resolved the intermittent and random network loss errors.
The MAX version is 3.0.2, and the firmware on the module is 4.17, Labview version is 7.0 and the Operating System is windows NT.
I was wondering is there any information about this problem from any user or NI recently. The only solution looking in to this discussion forum seems to be replacing the module.
