Network Magic has difficulty identifying the Internet gateway

I am using a Netgear WNR854T router in a secondary position.  The primary router is a Verizon (FIOS) Actiontec.  I have given the Netgear router a static address of 192.168.1.55  and have set 192.168.1.1 (the Verizon router) as the primary gateway.  Network magic incorrectly shows the Netgear as the Internet connection.  Occasionally this will change and the Verizon router will be shown as the Internet gateway.  When this happens all of my computers (wireless and wired) will show me connected to a new network.  Is there some settings in either of these routers that I should check or change so that the Verizon router is consistently viewed as the gateway?  Internet connectivity seems to be OK no matter which router Network Magic seems to think is the gateway.  I can not address the Netgear router over the network for some reason (must physically attach it to a computer)  Thanks for any help.

Hi, is DHCP disabled on your Netgear router?
My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • NB200 Can connect to wireless networks, but cannot connect to the internet

I have been able to connect my Win XP netbook to my secure wireless network at home, other people's networks and public networks like the library and McDonalds. This week I'm away from home and discovered that while I can still connect to a number of different wireless networks, I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
I've had this problem once before and fixed it by reinstalling Windows XP and all my other software. I have no idea why it has happened again. I'm hoping for a less drastic solution to the problem..?

    Hi Nakia,
    > I cannot connect to the internet using Internet Explorer.
Have you tested other browsers like Mozilla Firefox and does this work?
As MasterG wrote try to renew the IP address using the commend line.
Last week I had a similar problem and I could solve it by updating the WLAN driver. Just remove the driver, restart the notebook and install the newest one. :)

Load the airport utility for windows.. it has several parts.. the key one is bonjour for windows which helps windows find apple network devices.
The TC should also be setup with names that windows can use.. ie short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
So Fred Blog's Airport Time Capsule
Is not a valid windows name.
    TCgen5 is.

  • Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the internet.  Airplay logo not available on ipad3, iPod touch3g and showing intermittently in iTunes on windows laptop.  Switched ISP a few days ago.  Entered pass key info on all.

I switched ISP a few days ago and had problems with airplay since.  After restarting and reinstalling and updating, re entering pass keys for new wi fi on everything,  Apple TV shows:  Your Apple TV is connected to your wi fi network but cannot connect to the Internet.  Ipad3 and iPod touch 3G have no airplay icon or get one briefly then it disappears again.  Same with itunes on windows laptop.
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Simple.. bridge the TC.. in the apple utility in the NAT and DHCP area.
Plug it into the FIOS router.. you can turn off wireless in the TC if you want.. or use it.. it can work faster if you are nearby and can select 5ghz.. but up to you.

Ok I think it's a problem with my router. I went to my cousin's house and the Wi-Fi worked there perfectly. I was even able to download many apps. So I guess my router probably can't take in more connections. Oh well thanks anyway.

  • Apple TV connects to the network but cannot connect to the internet.

Apple TV connects to the network but cannot connect to the internet. Works on other Apple TV's we have just not this new one. Defective???  Thank you!

    This might help:
Apple TV (2nd gen.) saw my wireless network but did not accept my password (gave a network error message). It fixed instantly doing this:
Made a note of the Apple TV's MAC address. Get it by pressing Menu on the remote, then Settings > General > About. It's called "WiFi address."
Use your browser on a network connected computer to go to your router settings (usually 192.168.1.1).
Under "Wireless > Wireless MAC Filter" (or something similar) do these steps:
    Enable Wireless MAC filter
Enable "Permit PCs listed below to access the wireless network"
Enter the Apple TV's MAC address
    Click "Save Setting"
When I did this the network connection immediately started working.
Note: These instructions are based on a Cisco Wireless-N Broadband, model WRT160Nv2, firmware v2.0.02.

  • Ibook connects to my new Verizon network but isn't on the internet

    Hi,
I just signed on for Verizon internet, receiving a "hotspot" wireless modem in the bargain. I loaded the Verizon Manager software on my main computer (a Macbook) and all is well with that. I expected my older ibook (dual-usb circa 2001 running 10.2.8) to just "join the network" as it always has done previously when I took it to the library or another wifi hotspot to go high-speed.
My ibook reads the Verizon network just fine, displays it in the Airport menu, and shows a full signal in the airport icon/menu. However, I get a message that I am not connected to the internet when I try to get online with Safari. I knew going in that my ibook did not have the minimum system requirements per Verizon, but the person I talked to said that I only needed those requirements for the computer which would run the software (my Macbook), and that the ibook would just "join the network" once the network was established. I admit I was cynical but hoped it was true.
Is the simple answer that my ibook is just too old to utilize the Verizon technology? Or is there some way to enter the setting in my Macbook (for network/airport, etc... there is no way to do it with the Verizon software) to make this happen? Thanks for any help. mktreat
PS I don't think this has any bearing on the question but FYI I previously had only dial-up internet (wirelessly) through an Airport Extreme Base station (the conical one). My Macbook and ibook both had no trouble getting (dial-up) internet through that.

    Thanks to all...
at the moment, after reading Rhonda's reply and accessing the link she provided, I am hoping that the only issue is the old software... Since I posted, I have had to return my Verizon fivespot and replace it with the older version (it was dying on me randomly). Now I can't even access the network from my ibook... but when following Rhonda's link, the linked article showed the exact message I am getting when I try to sign on. Am going to upgrade my system software and see if that helps.
If that's not it, I'll try some of the other suggestions. Thanks again.

    ip adress : 169.254.90.xxx
    subnet mask:255.255.0.0
    router : blank
    dns:blank

Try using an explict DNS server, such as
    208.67.222.222 (OpenDNS server)
    8.8.8.8 (Google DNS server)
    System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+]
The first entry you add (at the top of the list) will be the primary DNS server.

  • I need help setting up a wireless network and getting connected to the internet. I have a RCN cable modem now and tried to install a wireless linksys today and it was a disaster

I have a MAC desktop and RCN cable that I have internet through now. I tried to set up a linksys wireless router today and could not get the network settings right, or figure out how to create the network, or get connected. I was successfull for only a few minutes because my phone and laptop had picked up the signal. However my desktop still would not connect to the internet. I had to restart my cable modem after because even after returning to directly inserting the desktop to the modem I could not get on the internet. I am able to get on now but would like to have wireless for my laptop and phone. Do I have to have an Apple router? Are there any easy steps I can take to set up a network without doing any damage to my desktop? I am so lost and have been getting pop ups and even my time changed.
Please help a new person to Apple!

why dont you go to linksys.com/downloads and get the quick install for your adpter

  • I am currently having problems accessing a network connection.  I have reset my IPAD network connections and am still having a problem.  I know that it is not my network because I can access the internet on my laptop computer.

I am having problems opening any email or apps on my IPAD 2.  It says there is no network connection but I don't have any problems accessing the internet on my laptop.

In any event, if your OS X version is 10.7.x, download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion:
    Lion: AirPort Utility 5.6.
If your OS X version is 10.5.x or 10.6.x, download and install AirPort Utility 5.5.3:
Leopard, Snow Leopard: AirPort Utility 5.5.3.
After you install the appropriate version of AirPort Utility, open it. The program will be located in your Utilities folder, which in turn is found in your Applications folder.
To open the Utilities folder, go to the Finder and select "Utilities" from the Go menu:
AirPort Utility 5.6 looks like this:
... but make sure you use the version of AirPort Utility you just downloaded.
Launch AirPort Utility and select your Time Capsule. Click Manual Setup, then the Guest Menu tab, then you can elect to disable the guest network, or to establish whatever security settings you want.
The window looks somewhat like this:
If your version of AirPort Utility does not look anything like that, you are probably not using the one you just downloaded. Find it and start over.
When you are finished configuring your Time Capsule, click Update and allow the Time Capsule to restart.

  • HT1595 Apple tv will connect to the network but cannot connect to the Internet

My apple tv is connecting to my network but it says it cannot connect to the Internet. I've already tried restarting everything and I've also connected it to my portable mifi network with same results. Anybody have any ideas?

This is what the MAC address clone looks like:
Should I enable it?  If so, should I put something in the MAC Address?  What?  I was able to connect it thru my MiFi, but not my home network.  Until today, it's been connected to my home network for about 8 months with no problem.  Haven't used it for a while...not since I got a new router.
