Network Magic or Home Network Defender is Blocking Uploads

I removed my primary hard drive and installed a new, faster larger one.  When I installed Network Magic I have been getting some significant problems:
1.  Speed test shows 0 Kbps upload speed and the gauge shows nothing uploaded on the Network Magic Speed Test
2.  I can NOT upload my videos to my external video publishing site - the Vimeo uploader is erroring out and crashing.  When I try the browser tool, I am getting an error that says I can not upload the file.
I did not have this problem before I reinstalled Network Magic.  My other computers do not have this problem.
I am using:
Network Magic Pro Version 5.5.9195.0-pure0
The OS on this computer is Vista Ultimate Service Pack 2
The internet connection is CABLE via Atlantic Broadband
The Router is a Linksys WRT610Nv2  Fireware 2.00.00 B05
The computer's virus software is NETSAFE Security Suite from Altantic Broadband - Firewall is NOT active. ( this is different than my other computer that is on the network, and it different than my prior installation configuration on my old hard drive - it used McAfee.

Can Network Magic be installed on existing small networks set up using the Windows software?  If so does it just incorporate all of the existing network information into the Network Magic software configuration?  If it cannot be installed on existing networks as a management upgrade, what must be done to make it installable, does the existing network need to be eliminated?

The airport only finds other networks.  Not the home network which I have used before.
It doesn't help to search for new networks, try to manually search or add the network.  Doesn't
help to turn off/on the airport or even the mac.  Doesn't help to reboot the home network - which is
found and connected on the iPhone and iPad. (and network speed is good enough for many devices).
The network just doesn't come up on the list of available networks.
No chance to update software, since got no internet.

I did some googling and found alot of topics from you on this issue, to me it simply seems like on of the connectors is broken or loose.

  • RE: can not remove a device from Network Magic 4.9 Network map

My network map shows an old computer that has NOT been on the network for over 1 year....yet it still is shown as being "on" the network. That computer I listed as being an Intruder, and while it does show up in red on the map, I can NOT find out how to remove it. When I refresh the network map, it continues to show...yet I KNOW it is not there....
Can you tell me how to get rid of this non-existant computer please? When I right/click same I never get that "remove this device" option....
    Jim

Hi, try doing a power cycle on your router and modem, and see if the computer disappears from the map.
    My Cisco Network Magic Configuration:
Router: D-Link WBR-2310 A1 FW:1.04, connected to Comcast High Speed Internet
Desktop, iMac: NM is on the Windows Partition, using Boot camp to access Windows, Windows 7 Pro 32-bit RTM, Broadcom Wireless N Card, McAfee Personal Firewall 2009,
Mac Partition of the iMac is using Mac OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard
Laptop: Windows XP Pro SP3, Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG, McAfee Personal Firewall 2008
Please note that though I am a beta tester for Network Magic, I am not a employee of Linksys/Cisco and am volunteering my time here to help other NM users.

  • IPhone Recognises All Wifi Networks Bar my Home Network

I have recently purchased a 32GB iPhone 4 (not 4S), and I have encountered the following problem: It will recognise most wifi networks promptly and without issue, but it does not recognise the one I use at home. Obviously this is a quite serious issue, as it is here that I will do most of my web browsing on my phone, and a stable wifi is needed to download apps. So without this I really have no recourse.
    The problem in more detail:
I have been doing some research and, although some people have similar issues, my problem is unique. First, my phone does not even list the network in the wifi tab under 'choose a network'; second, I cannot add it by inputting the information for the network manually (it says 'Could not find the network 'X'); and third, it is not the case that this is a 'new' problem. I got the phone three days ago and it has never been able to recognise my home network. Apple and my service provider give me no help as it connects to all other networks I have encountered thus far.
All of these points lead me to believe that it is a problem particularly with my Network. However, it is not a hardware issue. In my household I have two desktop iMacs (both new) connected to this network, my three year old laptop, and two iPads (one first and one second generation). I have never had a problem with recognising the network or connecting to it on any of these devices; only the iPhone.
    Additional information:
-This problem occured both under the operating system my phone came with (4. something) as well as the latest upgrade (5.0.1)
-The phone does have a 'Wi-Fi Address in system preferences
-The phone is indeed brand new
-The router I am using is a Cisco DPQ3925
-The channel width I am using is 20MHz
-I have my 'standard channel' set to 'Auto' (changing this makes me lose the network on all devices)
-The network is set to WPA2 Personal (not WEP, which seems to be causing some people problems)
-The SSID is indeed being broadcast
-This problem occurs regardless of how far I stand from the router
    Attempted Solutions
-I have done a full restore to no avail
-I have restarted network settings on my iphone many times
-I have tried resetting the router with no luck
-I have tried turning on/off cellular data several times
-I have tried turning on/off location services several times
As mentioned, I assume the problem has something to do with the iPhone recognising the network settings. Some have suggested interference with other devices. I unfortunately have little experience fiddling with router settings, so I'll need to be walked through if this is the issue.
I eagerly await any possible solutions you would offer, and I am quite grateful in advance. I must say that this problem is very vexing. I have had my previous Nokia 3210 for over 10 years, and was quite resistant to upgrading. I am a Mac fanatic, and always want the newest models of PCs, but I have long resisted updating my phone for fear of problems just like this one. Please prove my phone troglodytism wrong!

I have an iPhone 4 and I do not have trouble with my wi-fi. I thought I would take the time to look at my router settings and see if there is something that I could find that differs. I use a Linksys WRT160N router, so that is one difference to start with, but that shouldn't be that big of a deal. I am using WPA2 Personal for security with a channel width of 20 MHz. Is there a possibility that you have MAC filtering on that would be preventing your device from connecting? Have you checked the Cisco website to ensure you have the most current software for the router? Which network mode are you using, B, G, N, Mixed? Are you able to connect to any other wi-fi network anywhere, a public one like McDonald's, Starbucks, your work? This would explain whether the wi-fi is good or there is a hardware problem with the iPhone.

  • Network Magic link of network printer to iPad

there are two iPads on my network.  I have a shared HP8500A printer that the laptops print to, and the network printer shows up on the ipads, but will not print or cannot seem to find the printer as it shows it is looking for the printer, but nothing ever happens.  If I chose a photo on the ipad, the printer comes up and prints when you click print.  However, I cannot print any other docments or web content off the ipad.  any ideas?

you mentioned that you tried to edit the NETWORKLIB.XML file how did you do it? How many computers are using network magic? I have encountered this before wherein the network map will not sure the devices correctly.
Try the link below but once you are done doing the steps you need to turn off the computer and move on to the next until you finish doing the necessary steps. Once done with all the computers reboot the router and then turn on your computers one by one to see if that will help resolve the issue.

When you keyed in your password for your router when you were prompted to enter a password on iPad, what did you enter?  If your router is recognized on your computer as say, Harry's Internet, that's not the password iPad is seeking.  What iPad is looking for is the encryption key from your router.  And that encryption key is often a 13 digit code comprised of numbers and letters.

  • HT3574 If my iphone already connected to a wifi network like my home network, can I use internet tethering without using my limited data?

I don't want an answer like "Google it" or to have take an Hour drive to the Apple store for this question.
Considering when you are connected to Wi-Fi, your data does not get spent when you use the internet on your phone.
Can I run the Connection from my Phone to a Computer without using my Data?

You misunderstand me.  My IT department neither condone, nor condemn my actions.  I tried to connect my company bought kindle to my iphone to use it as a gateway (because it has no ability to accept proxy details).  I noticed that every time I created a personal hotspot on my phone it would disconnect from from the wireless and switch to 3G.  I came looking to see if I was doing something wrong and discovered it is not intended to work in the way that I thought it would.
I work for a college and a large part of my role is investigating technology, discovering what works with current systems, including what needs to be changed or modified to work with what we have in place already.  This is usually due to demand from students but also occasionally staff.  Part of this role includes making sure that there aren't work arounds (like I was trying above) that could be circumnavigating our security.  I've found it interesting to try and stay one step ahead of the next batch of fresh and shiny minds that like to prod and poke the network.
TL;DR I answered about 4 or 5 personal and corporate tech related questions in one foul swoop!  Thank you for your help.

  • Problem with Network Magic/Connecting to my PS3

    Hello!
I've really been enjoying my Cisco Wireless-G WRT-54G2 for the last two months, using it as a wireless hookup to my PS3. However, yesterday morning sometime something on my PC hiccupped or something . . . it's an older '04 Sony Vaio- whenever I try to install Windows XP MS Service Pack 2 (it has 1)- it goes into terminal slowdown . . . but it hasn't had any problems until this morning, when I lost the internet connection on both the land line connected to my PC and the wireless one connected to my PS3. I don't know really what happened, though the only new error that seems to have come up is that my Norton AntiVirus is thtrowing out an "Auto-Protect" error that can't seem to get resolved . . .
So, in order to troubleshoot, since my wireless modem wasn't covered by Cox Communications, I was forced to unhook it from the system and hook the ethernet line directly from the cable modem into my PC (instead of the wireless router). Eventually the problem was solved. Unfortunately, things did not return back to normal when I hooked up the wireless router again. The lights are flashing that the connection on BOTH my wireless connection and my hardline connection to my PC are going strong, but only my PC connection is working. My PS3 is programmed for the system but always gets a DNS when it tries to do anything.
When I use network magic, it inform me that "You are connected to a New Network" called "Local Area Connection - Router" and I cannot access the Map and Status Center features because of this.
What a wonderful way to be spending my turkey day!!
Any suggestions? Is the Norton AntiVirus screwing me up? I'd appreciate any assistance anyone could provide.

It is fairly easy and you should be up before Turkey day
If you know your PS3 has the correct security key for Network Magic (WEP or preferrably WPA WPA2 ) then follow this.
Open Network Magic>Click on (Network) Tasks>Click on Add a Device>(I have network lock on always to prevent intruders) it should disable your network lock>Follow the prompts, make sure your PS3 is on and click on internet or something to make it grab an IP addy, and show it's MAC addy, as well>
When Network Magic's "add a Device Wizard"  starts looking for your PS3's MAC address, and you see a MAC address appear below the "searching" line>
you should be fine(and be able to click Finish) then, as it will be included as a device with access to your Router>It should re-engage your Network Lock.
    Kind regards,
    Dagra
PS. I just started using Network Magic about 2 weeks ago, and got the 5.5 pro, for my home network. It took me about 30 minutes to get it all connected including my PS3, but then I'm an IT Tech.

  • Problems accessing home network via FTP

I get a -50 error when I try to FTP thru my company's wired Ethernet network to my home network via the "Connect to Server" command in the Finder.
However, I can connect with my home network using FileZilla thru the same (wired) network.
And I can connect to my homework via my company's wireless network from the Finder.
Any ideas what might be blocking me from FTP'ing to my home network via the Finder and thru the wired network, and how to resolve?

    At least a partial answer.
If I use the command FTP://username@IP Address, I'm able to connect. But I don't have to use my username with wireless.

  • Network Magic & WRT320N

I can not seem to set up security with my WRT320N and Network Magic. When I try to set up security and it says my router security is not enabled. I have entered my router settings and nothing seems to help. My problem is I have a lot of intruders that are logging into my wireless network and it is freezing a program that I am running on one older PC. I finally gave up after using the support line with linksys several times. Thanks for any guidence in this matter.

Do you think uninstalling Network Magic will fix these problems?
Is there any reason to keep Network Magic installed?

    Hi Carol,
Network Magic is a Network Monitoring Tool and helps makes Sharing Folders and Printers easier.
You don't need Network Magic installed. However all changes you made with Network Magic, like Sharing files and folders as well as Printers will be undone.
Please Read BEFORE YOU POST and post back with the requested information, including unplugging from the Router. How is it plugged into the Router?

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
