Hi,
Ive been looking for Cisco software to manage an entire network. Lets say i have a network with 200 switches and i want to do a mass firmware upgrade on all switches is there a Cisco product which can do this? Ive been looking at Cisco Prime but I cant find if Prime is capable of doing this.
thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

  • Mock RFP for SUN network management tool, desperate 4 help, just need specs

    OK, I have a project that in essence is a mock Request for Proposal (RFP), I play as an intern, & our instructor roleplays the manager we need to convince. The different network management tools that were available were for example; HP Openview, Cisco Works, Sniffer....& I of course chose SunNet. We need to gather information on the tool, then turn around & design a relatively simple network from the specs that were given, & finally discuss how the management tool's abilities could benefit the (mock) company...power point presentation & all.
    Here it is from the homework sheet given to us...."These products will need to be useful in a 5000 node network that has four main locations that are primarily Ethernet. There is a legacy 100 nodes of Token Ring attached to a mainframe. Cisco or Foundry routers connect the Four main locations, with swiches employed. Other connections to these sites are done via DSL or ISDN. Additional considerations are wireless communications, VOIP & Content delivery systems.
    I know this is a lot & I'm not asking for someone to do all this for me, just simply provide any information you know about Enterprise management tools 2.0 or 3.0,or anything you may feel better suits my needs, as the links I have surfed about them give little to nothing about specifics that I need to make any argument. If you have any links send them...if you have anyting in hard copy I will pay for postage... I need to get this done & have little time as I go to school & work full time at Motorola (but only as a contractor), so I'm starting to choke & need help....any u can give is so very appreciated....& sorry to make this request a publishable novel here on the board, but thats what it is. Thanks again......Mark

    A good solution. Liked it very much. Can you please make it a technet blog for others.

  • Network Management tool

    I am looking for a network monitoring tool that will provide me bandwidth analysis (incoming and outgoing traffic), latency, availability and anythign else that could be useful to understand how the network is doing.  I know that there are a lot of costly tools out there but there are also free ones, that is what I am looking for.  A tool that is easy to install, manage and use.
    Any recommendations?

    installation of Cacti itself is pretty easy on my opinion, on my personal experience other supportive applications was a little bit difficult since I am not expert on those area. if you have some experience or some one else able to help you with installation of (apache,mysql,php) you can accomplished your goal easily. also you can get help from cacti user forum. I am used this document as base of my installation and tweak a little bit based on my need.
    once you installed cacti is very easy to manage and power full. currently I am using cacti to monitor more than 6000 interfaces from 200 different locations. if you have question down the road with installation, I will try my best to help you.

  • Network Management of Cisco CPT Infrastructure

    Good day,
    I work for a managed services provider, and have a client whose network infrastructure is provided over a Cisco CPT environment.  There is a mix of CPT 600, CPT 200, and CPT 50, running in CTC mode rather than IOS mode.
    I am looking to see if anyone has experience in using a network monitoring system (other than Cisco Prime/CTC) to monitor the environment, and if so, what they're using.
    I started by trying to see if I could poll the various CPT devices via SNMP gets, but the CERENT mibs that I've looked at do not seem to get me the MPLS-TP level things that I am interested in (TP tunnels, LSPs on working or protect path, Pseudowires up/down, for example).
    I'm now sending SNMP traps from each of my CPT nodes to my NMS that I use for other clients, which is also an SNMP trap receiver, and it seems to give me a good deal of information related to the LSP's, Pseudowires, and various transport-level information.  I am curious whether anyone has used anything else to monitor a CPT environment, or if traps are the way to go.
    On a secondary note, I'm trying to determine what things are critical for me to have alerts on, and which things are more "nice to haves".  There's a huge list of things I can send traps on within the CERENT mibs, but clearly not all of them are service impacting or critical.
    Does anyone have CPT in production and would be able to share some insight?  If the above is unclear, I'd be more than happy to clarify.
    thanks in advance.

  • Network management tools?

    I have a more or less typical home LAN - Cox cable Internet, Airport (graphite) providing wireless and DHCP, 8-port Linksys switch, 3 Macs, Ethernet printer, and occasional guests via Airport. All works very well most of the time, but lately I've had several incidents when suddenly things stop working (ie local networking and/or reaching the Internet).
    What I'm looking for to help diagnose this is some software tool that will tell me in summary what's showing up in my network - hosts, IP addresses, maybe network traffic... I know I can go to the individual devices and get that info, but that's very labor intensive, and not real-time oriented for monitoring purposes. I've looked at a couple of tools, but they all seem oriented to stats on the one hosting machine where the app is, not the network in general.
    Can anyone point me to better tools? Don't need snazzy map drawing with Lat/Long coordinates, a simple table would be enough. Freeware or shareware is nice, and I don't mind a modest cost, however this is just a home, so I'll not afford the $1500 wanted for one tool I saw. I'm surely not the first person to want this, am I?

    Or have a look at this, I'm on 10.3 so can't test these...

  • Management Tool to manage both Catalyst and Nexus

    Is there a single network management tool to manage both Nexus and Catalyst at the same time?

    Oracle does not provide any tool for altering the contents on an existing dmp file.
    What you probably should do is filter the data prior to extraction. There are actually third party tools to do this such as Priceton Softtech had such a tool which IBM bought the company to get. It would extract data into files and then manipulate the table column data while maintaining the PK to FK relationships. That is if it changed the value of a PK it would update all the FK that pointed to the old value to point to the new value.
    Naturally, you can do this yourself.
    You could define a set of manipulation tables, insert/select the data, manipulate it, then export and import the data from these tables.
    Filtering can be fairly simple or pretty complex depending on the number of objects involved, the amount of data, and the number of sensitive columns.

  • Network Manager - wired connection

    Hello.
    At my dormitory I'm trying to automatize connecting to a local network. So far I've been
    connecting to the network using this sequnce of commands:
    $ sudo ifconfig eth0 up
    $ sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwired -ieth0 -c /etc/kolejnet.conf -B
    $ sudo dhcpcd eth0 up
    It's kind of anoying.
    I'm trying to get my Network Manager working but it seems that somewhere is a problem
    but I don't know what it is. This is how is my file "/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections
    /kolejnet" supposed to look like:
    [802-3-ethernet]
    duplex=full
    mac-address=f0:de:f1:8:1a:a1
    [connection]
    id=kolejnet
    uuid=3146f80e-9643-4de3-a037-6ef7e8adc888
    type=802-3-ethernet
    timestamp=1317798337
    [ipv6]
    method=auto
    [802-1x]
    eap=ttls;
    identity="my username"
    anonymous-identity=pizet
    ca-cert=/etc/ssl/certs/vpn-sisal.pem
    phase2-auth=pap
    password="my password"
    [ipv4]
    method=auto
    If everything is in here correct, what could the problem be?

    The title says "have internet until ...", so apparently you have something else running to handle the connection. You can hope that NetworkManager will somehow find and kill this other network management tool, but a saner approach is to stop/kill it yourself before you start NM.
    Note that I don't know much about steam, so there might be a better solution that allows you to continue to use your current tool (instead of NM).
    And you should turn to the journal if you want to see log messages for NM.

  • Cisco Network Management Solution

    Hi,
    I was asked to put together a Network Management solution to manage multiple sites. The sites are as follows:
    Site 1 - Approx 30 Switches (Cisco 4507 Core / Cisco 3750X Access)
    Site 2 - Approx 50 Switches (Cisco 4507 Core / Cisco 3750X Access)
    Site 3 - Approx 40 Switches (Cisco 4507 Core / Cisco 3750X Access)
    Site 4 - Approx 40 Switches (Cisco 4507 Core / Cisco 3750X Access)
    Site 5 - Approx 50 Switches (Cisco 4507 Core / Cisco 3750X Access)
    The sites are connected over a 2 or 4Mbps WAN connection to a central site.
    Can you please advise on the following:
    1) Architecture - Centralized or Distributed?
    2) Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2? or is there anything else?
    Thanks,
    Z

    You need to define what functions you want before selecting tools.
    Event management (syslog, SNMP traps).
    Network Change and Configuration Management (NCCM), which includes network discovery, inventory, as well as config mgmt.
    Performance data collection, analysis, and alerting.
    IP Address management.
    Topology mapping.
    Active path testing.
    Application performance management.
    Once you know what functions you want to implement, you can start identifying products that fulfill those requirements.

    I have been looking over the realease notes for each product trying to draw some conclusion on which titles support or dont support certain products.
    Has anyone used these and can give a quick answer for when you would use each and if there are any gotchas or limits to watch out for?
    It looks like Prime is a paid for product but will any of the free solutions (CNA, CCP, CCA) work with all enterprise level products (2950, 2960, 3560, 3750, 4948, 4900 4500 switches and 1800, 1900, 2800, 2900, 3800, 3900 routers) or do you have to use Prime to get a product that will mange these devices?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Basic Network Monitoring for Cisco Operation Manager 2012

    Hello,
    Please bear with me as i'm new the Operations Manager 2012 world. I've just installed operations manager 2012 in our environment and i've setup a network management point. I've discovered my networking gear which is primarily cisco equipment. The devices
    are appearing as CERTIFIED. It appears that they are HEALTHY however in most cases i'm getting some arbitrary monitors. I have a 6509 switch where memory and processor appear to be being monitored out of the box. I'm receiving alerts and everything.
    My question is how do I turn on monitoring for other discovered components. I seem to understand I can make SNMP monitors under the authoring pane if i know the OID. That sounds like it'd be tedious work for such a simple and basic monitor. However I was
    under the impression I would be able to monitor a lot of these components with a simple click of a button. Is this not the case? I'm primarily interested in monitoring the state and performance of particular interfaces as well as the state of the power supplies
    in our switches. Is there a guide that explains the basic principles of this. What are my options?
    Thanks!
    -Brandon

    Hi,
    You will need to edit the discovery and broaden the range. You may use recursive discovery.
    Recursive discovery will try to discover any other network devices it knows about through its Address Routing Protocol (ARP) table, its IP address table, or the topology Management Information Block (MIB) to grow the network map and present all applicable
    devices to you for monitoring.
    You can also filter out devices that you don't want to be discovered by using properties such as the device type, name, and object identifier (OID). This is a handy option if you wanted to quickly discover all the network devices in your network except,
    a small number or some with a specific criteria.
    In really large networks with a lot of network devices, keep in mind that there is a default limit of 1500 network devices that can be discovered recursively. You can of course tweak this limit to suit your environment if you wish, but for most people, this
    won't be needed.
    More details, please go through the article below:

  • Cisco application networking manager license file - unable copy to server

    Hi all
    We tried all the options like ftp,tftp,scp,etc., to copy cisco application networking manager license file from my pc to its server which has CISCO ADE OS .But unable to copy .can anybody know correct method to copy ??
    Thanks & Regards
    Sanjeevi

    Adrian,
    In order to install the license you must have a license file on the ANM server and install it through the command line:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/application_networking_manager/4.1/installation/guide/IG_config.html#wpmkr1120937
    No other way to do it.
    License file can either be copied to the ANM file system, or you can create a new empty license file on it and copy paste the license file content.
    If you have no access to the ANM server through CLI, then a workaround might be:
         - install a new VMWARE machine where you have CLI access.
         - install ANM on it
         - copy license (other you copy the file through any means or you create a file and edit by copy pasting the license file content)
         - install license with the command  /opt/CSCOanm/bin/anm-license install /path/ANMxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.lic as described in the link above
         - save the VMware image
         - deploy the same VMWare image to the ESX where it has to be installed and where you have no access to CLI neither you can copy a file.
    Hope this helps,
    Domenico.

  • Network mapping tools?

       Hi Everyone,
    I have a medium enviroment with 2 x Cat4500 switches and 50 x Cat3650 plus few Cat3750 switches. I'm looking for a network mapping tool which can help me to map all the network equipment so I can easy to manage or trouble shoot the network. It doesn't matter if it's free or paid but something I can try first before buy. I've tried Cisco Works but it was kind complicate and too much work for it so I just don't like it at this moment.
    Thanks.

    I think solar winds has a tool..land surveyor. Not sure if it's free or not..might want to search.

  • Lookin for a NMS such as CiscoWorks network management software

    hi everybody
    I 'm lookin' for CiscoWorks network management software or equivalent on support section on cisco website support.
    I want it to configure snmp on my catalyst 2950 and get some results likes input and output traffic rate on my catalyst, all trafic generated by equipment connected on my catalyst with some detailes likes equipement ip, input and output trafic rate, graph and son on.
    I don't find it on the cisco website so I think they'll have an equivalent on the website but I don't know.
    If someone has an idea or a link...
    Thank you

    Hi Serge,
    Are looking to obtain software that you can install and use, or are you looking for documentation for software you already have?
    One type of network management software freely available is MRTG, it will produce graphs of network traffic, a very handy utility:
    http://www.mrtg.com/
    Another freeware NMS, if I'm not mistaken, is Nagios:
    http://www.nagios.org/products/nagiospowered/
    We do have some software available for device configuration also (depending on the device). Perhaps the Cisco Netowrk Assistant? You can navigate there from http://www.cisco.com . Choose Support, and under Otion 2, choose "Download Software". Then select "Netowrk Management", "Routing and Switching Management", and "Cisco Network Assistant". Follow the navigation, and you should be able to have a tool to help configure your devices.
    Cheers,
