That may be what is a fairly common problem of 2 devices mistakenly assigned the same address. Try shutting off all of the devices connected to your router, reboot the router and then the devices connected to it.

  • Network Manager fails to detect unsecured network.

My current laptop uses a clean install of Arch Linux with the latest gnome-shell release. NetworkManager has no problem connecting to the wireless networks at home, but the problem I have is at college.
My college has an open wireless network; sometimes it fails to show in network-manager-applet. That's the first problem. The second problem, If it does show, it'll fail to connect. In order for me to connect, I had to install the iw package and type sudo iw eth1 connect <network-name> after it fails. Only then will it connect.
How do I fix this so that NetworkManager will stop acting up?
Here's the wireless adapter installed and the driver it's using. (I use AUR's broadcom-wl package because it can detect more networks and doesn't act up for me.)

Maybe it is a "mixed interface issue", if that's the case, then you should read this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ud … ork_device
    Hope it helps.

  • Network Manager Can't Connect Wirelessly

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to migrate from Connman to Network Manager for my network needs (as well as from e17 to xmonad) and I'm seeing some strange behavior. I can get the network manager applet running, but it won't connect to any wireless networks. I see a bunch of networks floating around in the connections list, but if I click on one, nothing happens. Furthermore, if I try to connect by command line, I get the following weirdness
    Input:
nmcli con up uuid f767eb89-ccbc-4dbe-bf12-af216ab8f9ff ap A0:21:B7:72:A3:CE
(the uuid is for my wlan0 interface and the ap is the BSSID of my network).
    Output:
    Active connection state: activating
    Active connection path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/0
** (process:2012): WARNING **: _nm_object_get_property: Error getting 'State' for /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/0: (19) Method "Get" with signature "ss" on interface "org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties" doesn't exist
    state: unknown
    Error: Connection activation failed.
I'm fairly sure that I have my policy kit working correctly. I have dbus and network manager as daemons and I logged in to an xmonad session using GDM, which should do my policy management for me, right?
I think its the wrong error message for a policy kit error anyways.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I switched to wicd, so this isn't an issue anymore, I guess... still not sure what was going wrong, though.

  • [Gnome 3] Network Manager can only create system connections

    Hello,
Coming from ubuntu, I installed Arch with Gnome 3 (didn't like unity). I have a small annoyance with Network manager from [testing]. When I select a wireless network, it asks for my sudo password and creates a system connection under /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections. Even when unchecking "Available for all users" in nm-connection-editor afterwards, the settings are kept in /etc instead of gconf/dconf and gnome-keyring as was the case in ubuntu (don't know if that was also the case in arch with gnome 2).
Of course, I can instruct PolicyKit to not ask for a password when modifying the connections, but I'd prefer to keep my keys in gnome-keyring instead of unencrypted files. As the single user of the system, I do not need system connections.
    Any ideas?

Seems like this is an upstream change in nm 0.9, and no workaround that I know existed for it.

  • IPhone 3GS can not detect SIM Card after upgraded to iOS 6.0.1

Guys I really need your advice please...
I upgraded my iPhone 3GS 32GB from iOS 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 a couple weeks ago and since then it can not detect the my SIM Card ever. Before it's been upgraded, the phone was working just fine, but now it's just like a gameboy to me. I've been trying to find solution and some stores want me too pay quite amount of money to fix it but I refused.
By the way, it has been jailbroken with RedSnow, tethered of course... and all the features are working perfectly, the WiFi is working, syncing is working, Bluetooth is working, downloading apps from App Store is okay, but only Mail and Safari won't work. I haven't got a chance to go to Apple Service Center to fix it yet, but the store I went said that Apple may say the same.
    Thanks in advance.
ps to Admin: I'm a newbie, so if I posted this in the wrong room please forgive me.

    Thanks Chris for your solution.
But just for you know that I bought Apple to get the 'after service', they should've warn the users not to upgrade to a higher OS if it can caused the phone 'dead'. Mine was totally unusable when it's just been upgraded. It stayed in the recovery mode and couldn't be restored. So I brought it to the nearest store and they did that to me, and eventually the phone is working, only it cannot detect my SIM Card...
The problem is not about upgrading an iPhone to a newer version of iOS.  Your problem was upgrading a hacked phone, one of the well known consequences of which is re-locking and/or bricking the entire device when restoring in iTunes.  You chose to hack your phones firmware and operating system, so you must accept the consequences of going outside the bounds of normal use that Apple prescribes and supports.
Had you not hacked it in the first place, you likely would have never had a problem, and if you had, Apple would have offered support to deal with it.  Your choice, your decision, your consequences.

  • [SOLVED]Network Manager Applet and nmcli failing after GCC upgrade

    Hi All,
So I went to update my system today and there were only like 8 or 9 updates. Like many other people I had an issue with gcc and pacman. To fix this I ran
    pacman -S gcc
    Then I ran:
    pacman -Su
which updated pacman itself. On reboot though I noticed network manager applet was unable to find any of my network devices despite the fact that network manager was running and I had an IP address. I killed nm-applet and re-ran it and it spewed errors about not being able to connect to network manager. I tried running nmcli and it did the same thing. However, when I run nmcli as root it works. Looking at the arch wiki they suggest you be a part of the wheel and network group which I made sure I was. Everything was working up until I ran those two updates though. Anyone else have this happen or have any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks,
    Hemmar
EDIT: Never mind - a patch was released for consolekit which fixes the problem.

    Hi guz46
I have already tried removing the ! and the same thing happened ... but I realised today that I was being automatically connected to "Auto eth0" despite there being no cable present. When automatic connection was disabled on "Auto eth0" my 3G connection (ppp0) connected fine.
Could you clarify that the preferred set-up in the /etc/rc.conf for the interfaces is without the !. The Wiki for networkmanager says to disable them, but then states that some may need to be reenabled with no explanation. The purpose of this confuses me!
    Thanks for you help anyways,
    Scott
    EDIT:
I appear to have fixed my problem with the auto connection on the various interfaces by updating my /etc/rc.conf file to:
    #Static IP example
    #eth0="dhcp"
    ppp0="dhcp"
    wlan0="dhcp"
    eth0="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(ppp0 wlan0 eth0)
Thus ensuring that I can connect in order of preference.

  • Can't start xbmc.service since upgrade to xbmc 12.3-10

    Hi,
I normally start xbmc via a service file and do not use a login manager, and have done successfully for some time now,
I can no longer start xbmc.service since upgrading to xbmc 12.3-10
The errors I receive in the journal are:

Feb 27 10:52:20 wolverine systemd[242]: Failed at step PAM spawning /usr/bin/xinit: Operation not permitted
Looking at the old and new xbmc.service files, the new xbmc.service now has an additional line specifying "PamName=login"
Not sure what I need to look at to fix this, any ideas are much appreciated.
I am temporarily using the old xbmc.service file from the xbmc 12.3-9 package to ensure xbmc starts.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thought I'd chime in here, as I'm having the same problem.  I am using the default service file provided by the xbmc package.  Commenting out PAMName=login in xbmc.service allows xbmc to start successfully on boot.  If I start xbmc.service from a normal shell prompt, it will start fine even with PAMName set.

  • Can't find Time Capsule since upgrading firmware to 7.4.1

Since recent TC firmware upgrade (7.4.1) both my iMac backups fail very very often, because Time Machine cannot find the backup disks . Same error if you tried to launch Time Machine.
The light is green, the wi-fi network works, but TC becomes invisible on the finder and on Time Machine preferences too.
I have to unplugged TC and then switch it on again. It's really annoying.
    Everything worked before the upgrade.
    APPLE FIX IT, PLEASE!

I have a similar problem since upgrading to 7.4.1.
I am trying to use my 500 GB Time Capsule to back up both my iMac and a PC (running Windows XP Pro). With the old FW version, this worked fine.
After upgrading and restarting TC, I can mount a Windows N/W drive and see the Time Capsule. However, after some time the TC is no longer reachable from Windows even though it still is working for Mac backups. Airport Utility from the iMac says that the TC is fine. Restarting the TC causes everything to start working again for a while until it stops working for PC's again.
TC is not configured to be the router; it is getting its IP address from another router in my network.
Is there any risk in downgrading back to the previous FW version?

I can't get email on my iPhone, iPad and iMac since upgrading to iOS 5. I can send emails, but can't receive incoming mail.
