I am trying to set up ichat so that i can send people on my network messages. However the problem is that the other person is running window XP and so i was wondering if it is possible to use ichat as a network messenger to windows computers. If so how do i set up the xp machine, if not any ideas as to which program i can use for this purpose.

There are many IM servcies out there.
iChat uses the AIM servers so this means you can contact anyone who is also using the AIm servers.
On the PC that is AIM for Windows or Trillian if you wish to Video or Audio chat as well as text chat.
The AIM stand alone can not Audio Chat only to iChat, where as Trillian can but Trillian costs $25 for the Pro, Video capable, version.
If you are only looking to only Text chat then the Jabber side of iChat and a suitable Jabber client on the WIndows machines should suffice. This would also give you the option of setting up your own Jabber server http://www.jabber.org/software/servers.shtml to keep it in House.

Msn messenger and 10.5.2 unable to login

Hi, I have this problem with two macs (macmini and macbook intel), both with same version 10.5.2 (and same problem since 10.5.2).
microsoft messsenger (msn) is unable to login (same apply to adium or any other if try to connect to messenger.hotmail.com 1863).
Firewall is disable. You get in the messenger log

I run a TCP dump and you can see the packages go out to the router but you don't get an ACK status, only RST packets return.
Friends not using Leopard is not having problems with the same version of messenger 7.0 (and earliers).
Problem persists even if in other network (macbook connected to different networks and wireless) so problem is not in the router or ISP.
Is there anything that leopard might be blocking (or broke)..., running "dscacheutil -flushcache" doesn't help and nothing is blocking connections to that port as well as DNS is resolving fine to the right IP for messenger.hotmail.com.
Any one can give me a hint what could I try (without re-installing leopard)?
Any new ideas I could try to resolve the problem?

Hi I have similar problems.
When connected to my home network Messenger 6.3 and 7.0 connect fine using both the Wifi and the Ethernet port.
However when connected to the office network the connection times out.
Moreover I also use Jbuddy messenger Pro, same problem works at home doen't work at the office.
At the office a pac file is used for the proxy settings.
When connect to the office network using Parallels (Windows XP) and MSN Messenger 4.7 in XP connection is ok.

Can no longer access .mac, mail, msn messenger etc on wireless network

have a wireless network in our house through an airport. but .mac login page does not load, mail will not access my email and things like msn messenger just do not login. does not work on either my macbook, imac g5 or the g5 tower. no idea what is wrong, could it be proxies or firewall stuff. just no idea.

This appears to be a network issue rather than a Mail issue. You should probably ask either in the Networking forum or in one of the AirPort forums.
As a first step, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

Can't download new bb messenger, have to verify network?

Im onto my 6th Blackberry! Curve 8520.
I downloaded the new blackberry update onto it, but it still has the old blackberry messenger, I went onto blackberry app world and it downloaded a lot and then suddenly said something about blackberry app world not being able to connect and that I have to verify my network?
I downloaded twitter off blackberry app world and it downloaded fine !
Can anyone tell me what to do?
P.S. its not my contract package or anything, I can access the internet via my network and everything

Hopefully someone can help. I have downloaded the nokia messenger application and set it up to work with my Ntlworld account. Problems is that i can received emails without issue, when i attempt to send any emails, i get the following error
500 - Delivery Status Notification Failure ...
I have also tried to set it up with yahoo mail and i get the same problem, three's email service is **bleep** and they want to charge me for every email sent, even though the advertising states "unlimited email" on the package that i purchased ...

Hello, I am writing a messenger program to interact with Microsoft Telnet (or any plain text command line program, basically I don't want to have a special client to use the server.) and I am running into some issues. I have a server.java which opens a socket, and accepts incoming connections. Once a connection is accepted, the server.java asks for the use name, and then when the name is supplied it spawns a new thread, passing in the socket and the name of the user. The universal user listing class (serverListing.java) is then updated with the names who are logged on. Now here is my problem. I can't think of a way to get text from one client, and then publish it to all of the other clients. I hope that I have described it enough to not have to post the code, simply because it is large. But if you think it would help let me know! Thank you for your time in advance!

Simplest way to do this ind of work is to have two
threads for each socket and a queue.
One thread should keep reading the socket input
stream and post that data in to a queue.
The other thread should read the queue and write to
the socket output stream.That will double the necessary numebr of threads, and though "cheap", threads aren't "free".
For the record, my suggestion is based on a working chat application.

Hey.. i know gaim is being properly maintained .. but i just had to upgrade to 0.82.1 because of the new feature that allows me to set the encoding ..
I'm not sure if my PKGBUILD is compliant with Arch rules .. so forgive me if isn't ... just makepkg and pacman -F the package ..

The prefix should be /usr. Gaim is not a gnome app, it is a GTK app. Gaim runs perfectly fine without the gnome libaries.
Also: If you don't really wanna wait for the new version to be official released, you can just go into abs /var/abs/network/gaim.. up the PKGBUILD to the new version and makepkg... It's easier then making a PKGBUILD 8)

Cannot connect to local network while connected with EasyVPN

Hi All,
I'm looking on many forums for an answer, but I cannot get it working.
I have configured EasyVPN with CCP and also with CLI. I had it both working perfect, except the most important thing.
I can connect with the Cisco VPN client to the router, but i'm not able to connect or even ping a system inside the remote network. My laptop gets an IP address from the address pool of the router.
I really hope someone can help me before my manager is losing his patience :-)

Remove the ip nat outside command for a moment during a permitted downtime.
I have a feeling you should do some NAT excemption for the VPN traffic (deny vpn traffic for nat policies).

BlackBerry Messenger version 7.0.1.23 Fault

I have a BlackBerry 9360 (3G, Wi-Fi), 7.1 bundle 1717 (v7.1.0.569, Platform 9.6.0.86), BlackBerry Messenger version 7.0.1.23
The team originally had the version of BlackBerry OS 6 operating system, for months to upgrade to the latest available for the team that is the Blackberry OS 7.1.
Apparently the problem started when upgrading BlackBerry Messenger to the latest version (7.0.1.23), I installed it through the BlackBerry App World for my team.
The team has about 6 months of use working perfectly, until recently that within BlackBerry Messenger application does not update the profile picture. I tried everything to fix it, between this I:
1. Off and removed the battery long enough, the problem is solved partly because after the smart phone turns on the changing profile picture (but only sometimes), and when it does, it only once since before a second consecutive update the problem recurs, have to repeat the procedure.
2. I deleted and reinstalled the application without any success.
3. Reset the entire smart phone and reinstalled all applications again, without success.
4. I've used all sorts of different connections (including 3G, 2G, Wifi) and in all alike the same problem.
5. registered the BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network, and also sent the service books through the application of e-mail settings on your smartphone. (Without success)
I would like to help me find a solution without resorting to absurd solutions like:
1. delete all contacts and add them one by one again, since I have 300 contacts! and that's not humanly possible, also a risk that after adding back the problem recurring.
2. get the battery every time you want to change my profile picture, (I do not buy a phone to get the battery every time you change a simple photo)
3. nor reset the phone, update or delete the application because as I said I already did and did not solve the problem.
otherwise I can not back up my contacts and I have the latest version of MSN BB and this does not bring this option, since all contact data is automatically saved in the cloud of my ID.

If you're having problem with recent update , you can try reinstalling it again cleanly , but first On your Homescreen Go to Options > Device Application Management > Locate and delete BlackBerry Messenger from there.

After deleting perform a battery pull restart by removing the Battery while is device is POWERED ON , wait a min. then re-insert it back . let your device takes a long reboot , finally from your BlackBerry Browser browse to www.blackberry.com/bbm and download the most recent version available for your device .After reinstalling see if that helps

If you're having BBM7 then your BBM Contacts are integrated with your BlackBerry ID , after installing when you login with your BlackBerry ID your Contacts will be restored back , but if you're having any previous persion then first do a local backup , you can backup in your Media card, refer to this KB for further help:

Problem with Yahoo Messenger for Blackberry 10

Hi Blackberry Team,
I've recently encountered a problem with Yahoo Messenger 10.1.0.88 on my Blackberry Q10 running OS 10.1.0.4181 software. It had been working fine for like a month after I purchased this phone from the authorized shop in Thailand until a few days ago it started showing the message within seconds after signed-in: 'Your connectino to the instant messaging provider has been lost. You can wait for the connection to be re-established or close the application and try logging in later'.
This is only when I'm on 3G cellular network. It works fine through Wi-Fi connection.
I did some research on website and found that the latest version of Yahoo Messenger for Blackberry is actually 10.1.1.16 released on Sep 30th, 2013 but, for some unknown reasons, my Blackberry World only shows the '10.1.0.88' (which already installed on my phone) as the latest version.
I really need this for work as I'm communicating with international bankers over yahoo. Please help look into this problem and get it fixed at your earliest possible. Thank you.
