Network Mode setting on E7

Dear all,
Im kind of new to the site as well as using my new E7. ve set ip all up and its working fine. however I kind of changed the network mode settings to be GSM from Dual Mode under connectivity to reduce my battery usage in power saving i cant access internet while deactivating this option Im able to.
I wish I can change it back at the same time use power saving mode. what do I do it keeps on changing back to GSM when I activate power saving mode

  • Network mode: Create a wireless network vs. Extend wireless network via ethernet

Can some one tell me the difference between configuring AirPort Utility : Network mode: Create a wireless network vs. Extend wireless network via ethernet? I connect my cable modem to my Airport Time Capsule to a network switch via ethernet. The switch contacts to three Airport Express (AE connects to two  Apple TVs via Ethernet) and another TC. Which is the best mode to configure my network?
    Thanks

Create a wireless network is used only when the Airports have an Ethernet connection. If you are using the setup wizard.....the setting will read Extend using Ethernet during the setup. If you go back in using AirPort Utility to check the Network Mode setting.....you will see that it is really Create a wireless network.
Extend a wireless network is used only if an AirPort is connecting to another AirPort using wireless.......not Ethernet.
Every one of the Airports on your network must be configured to Create a wireless network.
If you do connect an Ethernet cable to an AirPort that is already set up to Extend a wireless network......that will create a massive feedback loop that will crash the network until you remove the Ethernet connection to the device.
The bottom line here might be if you are using the setup wizard, it will make the correct choice for you.

  • HELP! Problem with setting up Airport Extreme in "extend wireless network mode"!

So I am trying to put my AirPort extreme in extend a wireless network mode. So I factory reset it, plugged it in, and went into Airport Utility to set it up. So it finds the device, and I set it up to extend the network. It does everything, and it gets set up. But there is an error message that says it was unable to extend the wireless network. Then 1 minute later, the Airport Extreme drops out, and the Airport Utility says device not found. I tried this multiple times, and it keeps happening. What should I do?

Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme will not be able to wirelessly extend a Netgear product. That feature will only work if you are connecting the AirPort Extreme to another Apple router.
If you want the AirPort Exteme to provide more wireless coverage, you will need to plan to connect it to the Netgear router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.

  • Switches have a VTP Mode set to "server" can I set them to "Transparent" on a live network?

Currently our cisco 2960 switches at location "B" have a VTP Mode set to “server” I want to change this to “Transparent”
    They have VLAN1-default (active) 10.1.10.81; VLAN2-patron(active) 192.168.10.2; VLAN3-vlan0003(suspended) no ipaddress; VLAN4-vlan0004(suspended) 192.168.20.2
    I want to delete VLAN3 and VLAN4
The connection between loc "A" and "B" is set to “Static Access VLAN1” I need to change it to “Trunk Nonnegotiate Vlan all” for our vlan2 at loc "B" to work.
Reason for this change, when I added these switches to our network about 6 months ago it brought my network down, Knowing what I know now I think they wrote their settings to all the other switches that were vtp server switches on our network, VLAN3 and 4 were set to active at that time.

Switching from server to transparent vtp mode will not disrupt your network, the existing vlans will still be available, modifications however will need to be executed manually on the transparent mode switches.
If the interfaces between location A and B are configured as access ports, VTP will not work as it is only in effect on trunk links.
Before adding switches to an existing VTP domain, best practise is to configure transparent mode to set the revision number to 0. This way the VLAN database of existing switches will not be altered when connecting the switch.

  • WRE54G does not recongize WRT100 when WRT100 network mode is set to Mixed

The only time that WRE54 makes a connection to the WRT100 is when the Wireless Network Mode (under Wirless Settings) is set to BG-MIXED and the Standard Channel is identified.
If you selete MIXED for the Network mode all other setting within the WRT100 are set to auto and the WRG54 does not make a connection to the WRT100. So if you have a mixed enivorment with N B and G. The WRE54 will be useless.
Currently the expander does make a connection to the WRT100 when the Network Mode is set to BG-Mixed and the Standard Channel is identified.
Any Updates that will correct this commmunication problem would be benificial. So the one could have a truely mixed environment.

    Hi Scrooge,
I have both pieces of hardware to the newest firmware. I tried your settings, however the WRE54G did not connect to WRT100.  To reduce the amount of typing I didn't include Wireless --> Advance Wireless Settings within my note, I ensure you though I did exactly as you suggested.
    On the WRT100
    Wireless --> Basic Wirless Settings
    Network Mode is Mixed
    Network Name (SSID): HAM
Radio Band: Auto - 20/40Mhz Channel
    Wide Channel: Auto
    Standard Channel: Auto
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled
Security --> Firewall  (the only things I have mark are):
    SPI Firewall Protection
    Filter INDENT (PORT 113)
Please note that the filter Anonymous Internet Requests  is not checked.
The WRE54G connects to WRT100 with these settings:
    Wireless ---> Basic Wireless Settings
    Network Mode: BG-MIXED
    Network Name (SSID): Ham
    Radio Band:  IS NULLED OUT
    WIDE Channel: IS NULLED OUT
    Stardard Channel: 10 - 2.457GHz
    SSID Broadcast: Enabled

  • Network Mode Switch No Longer Possible After Upgrade

Hello. I can't switch from 3G/H+ to 2G any longer. I could do this when I still had the OS 7.0 running on my Torch 9810 (AT&T). This changed after I upgraded to the OS 7.1. Now, when I go to the "Networks and Connections" option, all I see is "Manual and "Automatic"...I don't see any options to switch between 2G or 3G/H+...Even when I try switching manually to 2G (selecting 2G from the list of available networks), it still stays on 3G/H+...I have just upgraded to the latest official release: OS 7.1 Bundle 1997 (7.1.0.694 , Platform 5.1.0.507) but still, there are no changes on that. I need to have this feature because staying put on 3G/H+ means faster battery consumption and I don't want that. Please, your assistance is needed. Thanks.

  • Airport Express as very slow in "extend wireless network" mode

    Hi!
I am using a Airport Extreme (fourth generation) as a wireless router and a Airport Express 802.11n in "extend wireless network" mode.
I've set the Airport Extreme mode to 802.11n only - and all devices connect to the Airport Extreme as 802.11n Clients properly.
But as soon as they connect to the Airport Express, they only work in 802.11b/g mode (although they are capable of n)
and the connection is very slow - around 1Mb/s:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/804/bildschirmfoto20111211u.png/
Can i force the Airport Express station to accept only "n" connections to speed up my file tranfers?
    Thanks for any help!
    matt

Where is the AirPort Express located in relation to the area that needs more wireless coverage?
Ideally, it would be at a point that is about half the distance between the AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more wireless coverage....and....there would be no obstructions like walls and/or ceilings in the signal path....tough to do in most homes, so do the best that you can.
Avoid placing the Express down low on the wall and use an extension cord to get it up as high as possible with a free look into the room.
The Express will normally "extend" what it receives, but you could try the following to see if it helps:
Temporarily, change the Wireless Mode setting on the AirPort Express to "Create a wireless network" and change the Radio Mode to "802.11n only".
(You may have to hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Radio Mode selection box to see the "802.11n only" choice). Then change the Wireless Mode back to "Extend a wireless network" and Update.

  • WRT610N-ver2 - Network Mode N-only disables wireless security

WRT610N-ver2 - Network Mode N-only disables wireless security
    Firmware 2.00.01 build 15  Sep. 13, 2010
When I set Newtork Mode to N-only, the wireless security turns to DISABLED & can only be re-eneabled by returning to MIXED mode
    Same thing on both bands.

Try to re-flash the firmware of the router once again. The re-flash process means that you will be updating your firmware with a version that is similar to the one that you are currently using.  A firmware re-flash will help in fixing the script of your device’s current firmware. After re-flashing the firmware reset the router. Here is the link for resetting the router: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=eaa3127db5f4402584c959a7251e754c_4008.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Nokia N82 Network Mode

Why do I could not make outgoing calls and receiving incoming calls when my network mode is in dual mode while last two months its still okay? When I try to make an outgoing call it will show connection error and while receiving incoming calls the caller will be forwarded to my voicemail. It has to be setted on UMTS or GSM mode in order for the phone to work properly. How to fix this? Please help. Thanks.
If you think what I've just post is useful, do give me a kudos! xD

This evidently has nothing to do with call diverts, so I have no idea where the above user got that idea. The phone registers to the network if forced to GSM or UMTS mode but not if set to "automatic".
This is often a software problem. Start by switching the phone off and removing the battery for 10 minutes. Then reassemble and try.
If that didn't work then you'll have to try a reset. Back up your phone's contents but not the phone's settings to the memory card or using PC/OVI Suite beforehand because this is going to erase everything.
Dial *#7370# and enter your security code when prompted (the default on all Nokia phones is 12345 until you change it).
    Restore the backup you made.
If the problem persists then you'll need to contact your operator and explain the problem to them. It could be a problem with your SIM card, in which case they can perform an over-the-air update or even replace it if necessary.

  • Nokia 701 Restarts when it is in Dual Network Mode

    Hi,
I owned a 701 since Dec'11, but recently after the latest sw update after some day s it started restarting on its own almost 10 -15 times a day. I able to drill down the root cause after some un-installation and setting changes, It only restarts when its on dual network mode when it tries to switch between 2G to 3G and vice versa.
Any one has observe this issue & any solution.

  • BB Z10 Network Mode Choices

When I first bought my Z10, under System Settings / Network Connections / Mobile Network / Network Mode it gave options stated in terms of "G", i.e, 4G   or   4G & 3G & 2G   or   4G & 3G or 3G & 2G". After installing one of the leaked OS's 10.1.0.2342 these options changed to LTE/UTMS/GSM, one of which was just GSM.  Selecting that option turned off 3G and restricted the phone to 2G. Now suddenly, without updating the OS, the options have changed back to 4G etc. It was very useful to be able to set the phone to GSM/2G. There is no such option in the 4G 3G option version. You cannot turn off 3G, which is a big battery user. Setting it on GSM only (2G) used to give me a good few hours more battery life a day. Do you have any idea what caused these changes? Is it OS version related or is it a user setting somewhere?

I've been using Blackberry Z10, STL100-2 model for quite sometime. I recently updated it to 10.1.0.2354. I'm now facing the issue in 'Network Mode' option. Before updating it to 10.1 it was showing all the option (2G, 3G, 2G&3G, 2G, 3G&4G) but after updating its is only showing two options 'Null' and '2G'. Any idea why it has happened and what;s the solution?

  • WRT350N only shows 'mixed' in network mode

    Hi,
I've got a WRT350N firmware v2.00.19, now all my gear is 802.11n I want to change the network mode on the router to be N only, but the only options I see under this setting are 'Mixed' and 'Disabled'.
Anyone know how I can set it to N only?

Hi Scrooge, tried your suggestion, got the power light flashing between green and orange then pulled power to the modem and router, restarted modem first them router. Still only see mixed and disabled in the network mode drop down, i'll try it a couple more times to see if my reboot restart timings makes any difference.
Do you know the underlying cause of this? reset\reboot\unplug seems like a pretty random method?
Thanks for your help with this!

  • 2nd Computer Requires a Manual Wireless Network Connection Setting on Powerup

2nd Computer Requires a Manual Wireless Network Connection Setting on Powerup
On power-up, my 2nd computer, a 3 yo IBM R51, requires that I open the Network Connections window, then set the Wireless Network Connection Properties under the Wireless Network Tab, clicking on "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings", before the automatic connection launches to the WRT150N v1.1 router signal.
I just bought the router and have the latest firmware.
My primary computer does not require the above settings change every time.
Is there a selection I can make so this is automatic on power-up or restart of my 2nd computer?

It was already set to automatic on both extended and standard tabs.
For a good measure, I set it to disable, applied, then reset it to automatic and applied again. Still does same thing.
I notice that if I double click on the small icon for the Intel ProWireless Network Card, I get a Wireless Connection Status Window.
This window has a Wireless Settings section where it seems to have a possibly obsolete "Current Location Profile" called ssnetwork (the name of my old network on my old D-Link router that I just changed out for the Linksys.
Anyway, the Network Name (SSID) field is now blank but when it first came up, it had the new name of the network I'm using.
Do you know how I access this "Current Location Profile" so I can edit it and possibly enter my new network name?
There is a button at the bottom of the screen called "Modify WLAN Settings" that I click but nothing launches when I do so.
Now that I manually did the connection setting, my network name appears in the "Current Location Profile."

  • All Network Volumes set as Login Items open in Finder on EVERY startup

    ...after updating to 10.5.8
I have a Mac running on an otherwise all PC network. Before updating to 10.5.8 I had 5 network volumes set to "connect" on startup automatically (System Prefs / Accounts / Login Items). This worked perfectly and connected to these volumes silently without me having to ever worry about it. I didn't even have to check the "Hide" boxes.
After updating to 10.5.8 however, it became completely annoying. Now it still connects to these volumes, but opens up every single one in Finder upon every startup. That's 5 windows I have to close every time I startup my computer. It may not sound like the worst thing in the world, but mind you I have to log out and back in every day for work. Even checking the "Hide" checkboxes don't do anything.
Anybody experiencing the same problem? Anybody know a workaround or fix? My company has a rather large and complex network so staying connected to certain folders that I use is a must. Thanks.

Thanks to both of you. I guess the search I ran wasn't good enough as I didn't find the discussion that you posted.
One of the possible workarounds posted there was to use a third-party program that I found difficult to understand and use. Instead I took V.K.'s advice and made an AppleScript and then made that script launch at login. Works like a charm.
Only difference is that my AppleScript isn't located in the Utilities folder (10.5.8), instead I got to it by going to Applications / AppleScript / Script Editor.
sorry, my mistake on the location.
Then I made a script and saved it as an application. I then put that application in my Login Items (System Prefs / Accounts / Login Items).
If you're having trouble finding the mount volume (or server) address, here's how you can find it: If you are currently connected to the volume(s) that you want to use, left-click it and hit Cmd+I (or right-click, Get Info). Use the address next to "Server:" - That's it!
Hopefully Apple will fix this bug soon so people don't have to make AppleScripts just to make the OS work correctly.
I wouldn't bet on it for leopard. leopard development has stopped now after snow leopard has been released. historically, Apple only releases security patches for old OS versions once a new one comes out. Interestingly, this bug is present in snow leopard too! or maybe they don't consider it a bug and this is how it should work. one can make a case for this, I guess.
