Network not showing up on Linux (Ubuntu 13.10)
Product: Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz 54Mbps Broadband Router WRT54G v.4
OS: Ubuntu 13.10 on Samsung N150 Netbook -- works when hardwired into router, but not wirelessly
OS: Windows 7 on Lenovo Windows 7 PC -- does not work even hardwired in
Was working fine for over a year, but all of a sudden the network disappeared from the Wireless list this afternoon.

Wireless Configurations
What wireless modes are you using?
Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK [/url] only or Auto TPIK and AES.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz cordless house phones or WiFi APs near by?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use http://www.metageek.net/support/metageek-software-archives/ to find out. How many?
Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

I have an iPhone 4 and when I go into settings>general, the Network tab is not showing up. It also says that I have a VPN, but will not show an APN. I downloaded the iPhone Config Utility, but I'm not sure what I need to do once I have that open to fix this problem. Is it even fixable? I just started using StraightTalk today and want to get all this figured out so I can have access to data. Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
There are two laptops already on the network and working. On the new laptop, when I go to sign on to the network, there is one named "linksys" on it but not "ralphsnetwork". When I put the wireless code in, I get "wireless code mismatch". The other two laptops show "ralphsnetwork" as the network they are connected to. Should the name of my network show up on the new laptop? Or is the one showing up named "linksys" actually my network. If it is, my wireless code will not work on it.

Just a thought.
You did not mention 'Look for shared music'.
It's in Preferences>Sharing in iTunes.

Home network not showing up in Finder
My desktop PC is connected to my router by ethernet; MacBook Pro wireless. Due to a printing issue, I need to copy files from MacBook to PC to print. Sometimes, despite being on, PC does not show up under "Shared" in Finder. Is there a way in Snow Leopard of "seeing" which computers are currently attached to the home network?
Note - this is an intermittent problem; probably 2/3 of the time, the PC shows up no problem!Open Terminal and issue the following command
ps aux | grep netbios[d]
if you get a line similar to this
_netbios 45 0,0 0,0 2477156 2456 ?? SNs 9:14am 0:02.44 /usr/sbin/netbiosd
then the daemon is running, otherwise issue the following command to start netbiosd permanently
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.netbiosd.plist -

Yes, did. Same result.
Sanity Check: Is it booting from LiveUSB/CD? I would not expect HDT/Reboot or Power Off entries from a generated grub config. I would expect those entries from a LiveUSB/CD.
From system itself, but tried all options (I knew) like 1) using fallback to install LTS and run commands, 2) live-CD, 3) kernel parameter systemd.unit etc
No worries, I am giving up on issue for some time.
EDIT:
Thanks

Networks not showing up in airport
My airport is on, but no networks are showing up. Just started to happen. Everything was fine until I installed an airport express. The airport express is on and working, but not showing up as a network too.
Any thoughts out there?
Thanks!Same problem here. Although I'm using Leopard from a clean install. It says searching when i first click open the AP menu open, but then it just shows the network I'm on. Though once and awhile the other networks briefly show up too.....

Network not showing up, internet works ok
I have a NetGear router and just bought my first Macbook. I have every PC/Tivo connected to this netgear router wired and/or wireless.
I'm running a Macbook with Mac OS x 10.5. Try as I might, I can't get this @$%ing computer to see my PCs.
My PCs can see the Macbook fine. I'm sooo confused. I've enabled file sharing, SMB, printer sharing..but still nothing -- no shared folders.
I saw some google searches that has to have "windows sharing" enabled but I don't see it in the sharing box. Is that an old OS or am I missing it?
Any advice can be appreciated. I have all firewalls off for testing. My PCs see the Mac but not the Mac seeing the PCs. I want to share a printer that's connected via USB to my PC at some point!!! Thanks!Ok.
First of all, create a new location.
System Preferences -> Network Preferences -> Edit locations
Click on Automatic, then "duplicate location". Once the new location is created, rename it to "home" or something else that is relevant.
Then select that location. Click on Airport -> Advanced -> WINS
Enter WORKGROUP in the appropriate space on this panel and press enter.
Does this work? It could take a few minutes to show up.... so in the meantime, get the IP address of one of your PCs.
In Finder, select "connect to server" from the Go menu.
Enter:
smb://yourPCIPaddress
This should then prompt you for a username and password, and you will be connected. -
Sharing library on local network not showing on all computers
I am unable to see my shared music folder in iTunes for the music on the home server on a local network from my laptop. It shows fine on my wife's laptop but not on mine. I can't see the remote speakers either. All the settings in iTunes are correct for sharing and for look for shared music and I have access to the files on the network from my laptop when I browse network places. When I first installed it worked fine on my machine but then it stopped. I can't figure out why. I also tried with the firewall off but did not help either.
Any ideas why it would stop working, but still work on other PCs on the network. I have a total of 3 pcs on the network plus the server.I have the same problem with a new laptop running Vista. All three of my XP computers that run ITunes can see the shared network drive on my server. ITunes on the Vista computer doesn't see any shared network folders, even though I can open them in Vista. Even tried a shortcut the network folder on the desktop. Zip. I've seen dozens of posts about this problem and no answers from Apple... and people complain about Microsoft software... sigh.

Did you follow all the processes in moving to a different Network?
Here are two links to aid you:
1. You can do it via GUI:

My Network NOT showing up on Networks In Range scan!
Out of the blue - my husband's laptop wireless connection stopped working. I tried to reconnect - it wouldn't.
I went to the scanned Networks in range to connect - and our router's signal is not there!
Previously our router had channels 1, 2 & 3 illuminated. Now only 3 is illuminated.
HELP!Well, it does not make much sense to enter your password on your neighbor's router. If you want to use your router you should only connect to your router.
Wire a computer to your router. Now open http://192.168.1.1/. For this your normal password should work. Then check the settings on the router. Check the main Setup tab and the Wireless and Wireless Security tab. Verify you still have your settings there.
For the wireless you should use a unique SSID/network name. Using the default "linksys" only creates confusion.
Do not disable the SSID broadcast. It won't improve security but only makes problems.
To secure the wireless network use WPA2 or WPA security with a good pre-shared key/passphrase. Use compatibility TKIP+AES (or similar).
If that is all O.K. check the computers. Windows has a list of preferred wireless networks to which it will automatically connect if any of those networks is in reach. If you have setup your router with a unique broadcast SSID and WPA/WPA2 security your computer should never automatically connect to any other network in your neighborhood. Check the list of preferred wireless networks in Windows and remove all networks except your own and any other wireless network to which you really have to connect. The list of preferred networks should only contain those networks which you really use.
If you do not use Windows for the configuration of your wireless card check the documentation of the software which you use to connect and configure wireless connections. Many laptop computers have other software for this purpose, e.g. IBM/Lenovo uses "Access Connections". This software will also have a list of preferred networks. Clean out this list to contain only the relevant networks.
After that your computers should connect correctly to your network and not to others anymore.
Regarding the LAN lights on the router. If the light is not lit up it usually means that there is either nothing connected on that port or that the card to which the port is connected to is disabled. Thus, if you have anything connected to port 2, 3 or 4 on the router make sure it is correctly connected and the ethernet card on the computers are enabled and active. -
Network not showing up for my newly installed high-speed internet

Hi Everyone
so as the name states my home network just isnt showing up all the time.
Heres my setup
Macbook pro running osx 10.6.2 > wireless g through WPA2 secured connection > router
Vista Home Basic > Wired > Router
XP Pro > Wired > Router
the vista and XP pc's see each other fine and can share inbetween with no problems
all 3 pc's can surf the interwebs
all 3 pc's are in the "WORKGROUP" group for the purpose of windows/SMB networking.
pings work from every box to every other box and vice versa
Problem is I cant see the windows shares on the mac, sometimes i can but then if the mac goes to sleep or i close the mac to go somewhere when i get home i can no longer see the windows shares.
as my mac only has a 250gig HD this is quite annoying as the vista box has all my media and music that i spent many hours adding to my itunes library on the vista box.
if anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciatedOk so i got around it kind of ... at least my vista pc is staying connected now .. i had to set up a username/password for shares and it seems to have made some progress
the xp box is still scetchy at best but ive turned off simple file sharing and it seems to have made the shares a bit more accessable -
"Network" not showing the network?
Suddenly in the past couple days I have not been able to browse the network. When I click on "network" in the finder, I used to be able to see the computers on the network (at home) or the folders of each workgroup (at work). Now all I see when I click on Network is three folders (Applications, Library, and Users) which are all empty. I cannot browse. I can "connect to server" and put in smb://computername or smb://IP.ad.dr.ess and it connects to the computer just fine, but that is an extra step I shouldnt have to take, and when I am not already connected and I go to open a file on that machine from within a program, I must stop what I am doing, go to "connect to server" put in the IP, connect and then go back to the program I was working in.. it is really just annoying. Any ideas on why this would happen, and out of nowhere? Nothing new installed, nothing changed.
Thanks in advanceTried that.. it is not the Macintosh HD... I used the copy file path utility on the applications folder in the network and it gives me this path:
/Network/Applications
so if I go into terminal and ls -alt on the root folder of the hard drive it says network was created sept 2003, owned by user root, group wheel... the applications, library and users folder inside have the same create date and ownership
this is really frustrating... I cannot find any info on this on google, here or anywhere else... maybe it is time i upgrade to 10.4
