Network not within reach of device

Was printing fine yesterday and today got message that printer was offline. Tried reinstalling software from disc and all was well until network setup and then get a message that the selected network is not within reach of the device. That is amazing since everything is in the exact location it was in yesterday!
When I did the reinstall the printer was connected via USB and the Wireless indicator on the printer was illuminated.
My Stuff; HP OffficeJet Pro 8000 Wireless; iMac 21 1/2" OS 10.6.8 and a Mac Airport router
Any words of wisdom appreciated.

SloMo,
Thoughts on the issue of the lost connection:
This may be true for MAC -- it is certainly true for installing printer software on a PC:
If you are intending to use a USB connection, you install the software first and do not connect the USB cable until directed to do so.
If you are intending to run wirelss, I am not sure you have to ever connect the printer with a USB cable.
Select your printer from HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 series
You may be able to download and install your printer's latest software from your printer's webpage for your OS.
As well, you can check the bottom of the webpage(s) for the video help available to assist with installation.
If the network "I'm not here" error continues, try rebooting your router.
Also, if an Airport is anything like a non-Mac router, then if you move it just a couple of inches, move it higher (up on a cabinet shelf), or even move the printer just a little bit, things may improve.  Antennas are finicky.
If your Mac / Printer are indeed going to run wirelessly on the same network,
AND
If your Mac has a setting on the wireless device to allow it to remain powered (that means, do not let the computer to switch off the wireless card to save power), then you might try this as a means to keep the wireless connection open.
Sorry for my lack of Mac-Speak -- I do not have any Apples except my trusty iPad One (love my iPad).
Kind Regards,
Dragon-Fur

  • Network Unavailable "not within reach of the device"

    I am trying to connect my HP 3050 to our router via my MacBook (v.10.6.08).  I have installed the HP software, and when I got to Network SetUp and put in the password, I get this message: "Network Unavailable -  The selected Wi-Fi Network "XXXX" is not within the reach of the device."
    What do I need to do?  The printer is literally 2 feet farther away from the router than the laptop I am currently using with   no problem.  Is that enough to make a difference?  Any help is appreciated.

    Hello FLTEACHER2010,
    Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
    I see you are having a hard time installing / setting up the Deskjet 3050 on your Mac 10.6.8. The error, in my experience, is given when the router has a guest network or the Mac is on a different network than the network the printer is trying to connect to.
    I typically recommend to have the router, at minimum, 6 feet away from any device that it is to be connected to. This is to prevent the network from over looking the device.
    Try moving the printer or router, power off or disconnect the power cord from the router for one minute (allows the router to reboot), ensure the Mac is connected to correct network and attempt the setup again.
    Cheers,
    JERENDS

  • Not within range of device-HP printer

    Hello,
    I just purchased a HP Photosmart C4580 All-in-One Printer. I'm trying to setup the printer to read my wireless network. It reads the correct one, but when I type in the network security key (I'm assuming this is the password for my wifi network), it reads "The selected Wi-Fi Network "Apple" is not within the reach of the device.
    I put the printer right next to the airport, went through set up again, but the same message appears. Any ideas?

    You can purchase a MiFi or similar device.  It acts like a wifi hotspot and connects to the internet via a cellular connection.  You need a data plane too.

  • My iphone wifi data from the consolidated file shows more wifi networks than I have been exposed to. Does the iphone also collect location on wifi networks that are within reach of the wifi networks it has access to?

    I took out the wifi location data from the consolidated file and plotted into google maps. Clearly, not all those wifi networks are in areas or really close to areas I've been to, yet somewhat close. Does it mean that if I am within a range of a wifi network my iphone will not only collect location data of that particular wifi network but also all others that are within reach of that wifi network and so forth?

  • If I connect a time capsule via ethernet to an existing internet connection and use it to create a private wifi network for my wireless devices, will other users on the primary network (not the private wifi one) be able to access my files on my TCapsule?

    Like it says in the title basically.
    I want to use a time capsule to store my files and backups and access it from my phone and MacBook Air. However I do not want the others in my house who are currently connected to the same wifi/ethernet router to use my connection or my TC hard drives.
    I had also been thinking about wirelessly extending the wifi network (a linksys N router) but I guess that will allow everyone to access my Time Capsule?
    I hope you guys can help me.
    Regards, Guido

    ......will other users on the primary network (not the private wifi one) be able to access my files on my TCapsule?
    No, if you have not provided them with the Time Capsule device password.
    Users will be able to "see" the Time Capsule icon under the SHARED heading in the Finder on their Macs, but they will not be able to access the drive or the files.

    Photoshop CS6 is not showing any network drives within windows 8.1, I can only browse the local disk for files. Please advise?
    And when i try opening a file directly from the network, photoshop starts but does not open the selected file?

    The dialog you show there looks like it may be a CS6 open dialog running on windows 8.1 that is showing what is local.  Network is not highlighted selected.

    Hi,
    I have the same problem. However beginning over and over again and using other ports did not solve this unfortunately.
    Here is the SQL I used to setup the mirroring.
    * Principal DB
    CREATE ENDPOINT [MirroringEndpoint]
        AUTHORIZATION [DOMAIN\administrator]
        STATE=STARTED
        AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
        FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE
    , ENCRYPTION = REQUIRED ALGORITHM RC4)
    BACKUP DATABASE TEST
        TO DISK = 'C:\full-backup.bak'
        WITH FORMAT
    BACKUP LOG TEST
        TO DISK = 'C:\log.bak'
    ALTER DATABASE TEST SET PARTNER ='tcp://sql2.domain.local:5022';
    * Mirroring DB
    CREATE ENDPOINT [MirroringEndpoint]
        AUTHORIZATION [DOMAIN\administrator]
        STATE=STARTED
        AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
        FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER, AUTHENTICATION = WINDOWS NEGOTIATE
    , ENCRYPTION = REQUIRED ALGORITHM RC4)
    RESTORE DATABASE TEST
        FROM DISK = 'C:\full-backup.bak'
        WITH NORECOVERY
    RESTORE LOG TEST
        FROM DISK = 'C:\log.bak'
        WITH FILE=1, NORECOVERY
    ALTER DATABASE TEST SET PARTNER ='tcp://sql1.domain.local:5022';
    The last statement on the principal server gives me the following error :
    Msg 1418, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
    The server network address "tcp://sql2.domain.local:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and that the ports for the local and remote endpoints are operational.
    From the principal server I'm able to ping the mirror server and can establish a telnet connection. When the statement gets executed even netstat gives me the following output :
    TCP    0.0.0.0:5022           0.0.0.0:0              LISTENING       1244  [sqlservr.exe]
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1223       TIME_WAIT       0

    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1225       TIME_WAIT       0
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1222       TIME_WAIT       0
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1221       TIME_WAIT       0
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1224       TIME_WAIT       0
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1219       TIME_WAIT       0
    TCP    10.1.1.140:5022       10.1.1.110:1220       TIME_WAIT       0
    Is it normal so many ports get opened?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated (as this drives me crazy :-( )
    Found the problem eventually. The mirroring ran as the NT_AUTORITY user instead of DOMAIN\administrator.

    I have a new iPhone 4s.  I have a home wi-fi network using Cisco Linksys2000 router with all settings per this article - phone will not see network if set to 5 GHz channel width - solution??  2.4 works but is not optimal with other devices in home (computers; tivo).  Have others seen this?  Any advice is much appreciated.

    Stephen Spark is right - your best alternative is to use a simultaneous dual band wireless router like the AirPort Extreme. Your Cisco Linksys2000 is not a dual band router, meaning that it will be constrained to operate at the slowest speed of all the devices on your network.
    The AirPort Extreme's dual networks will support all your 802.11n devices as well as all your 802.11b/g devices on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies simultaneously.

    the ipod could not be updated. this device isn't eligible for the requested build. what is this? what to do to update my iPod ?

    This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
    Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
    Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
    Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
    Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
    Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

    iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

  • IPad does not appear in iTunes Devices list

    My MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad are all on the same network, however my iPad frequently does not appear in iTunes Devices when not physically connected by USB.  No problem with my iPhone.  Anyone else with this problem?  Any solution?  (Yes, all OS/iTunes softwares are current.)
    Further detail, to temporarily fix this issue, I physically connect my iPad via USB to sync it.  Temporarily the iPad will be seen in the device list allowing sycing to occur while remotely charging, but at some random time later my iPad is no longer found by iTunes - again without the physical USB link.  So, yes there is a work around, but it is annoying to be so up and down with this feature.
