Network Port default setting

Hi all,
I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. I click connect, it dials, tries for a while, then a message comes up check modem setting. I go to preferences, click network, click assist me, diagnostics, location, choose network port configuration. This is always on Builtin Ethernet, which I don't have. So I click Internal modem, continue, it dials again, then asks me if I have DSL, I say no, It asks me if I can restart anything else, no again. Then I click go back til I get to the location page again then continue, continue, continue. Then it connects to the internet. How can I get it to stop defaulting to Built in Ethernet and just stay on internal modem on the Network port configuration page??

  • How can I change network port configuration default setting?

    Hello,
I am having trouble connecting to the internet. When I try to connect, it dials, rings, and then has a long tone, then disconnects. Preferences>Network>Assist Me>Diagnostics>Location>Network Port has Built in Ethernet chosen. I unchoose it, choose Internal Modem. It goes on to try to connect, than asks me if I have DSL or Cable (I don't) I choose no, asks me if there is anything else to restart, no, I choose. It then says to check configuration. I go back till the location page then continue, continue, then it connects. It won't stay selected to Internal Modem. I have checked its box and dragged it to the top (and unchecked and dragged Ethernet to the bottom). This happens 90% of the time but not always. I can connect to the internet, but have to go through this. I don't have Built in Ethernet.
    Thanks,
    Maria

Open Network preferences. Select Internal Modem from the list and click on the Configure button. Click on the PPP tab. Fill in the required information for your dial up ISP including your username and password (for your dial up account.) Check the box to save your password. Click on the Apply button. Click on the TCP/IP tab and select DHCP from the Configure IPv4 drop down menu, click on the Apply button. Click on the Modem tab and select the modem from the drop down menu that corresponds to the one you are using or have installed internally in your computer. Click on the Apply button. Quit Network preferences. This should have you all set. Use Internet Connect to initiate the dial up.

  • How to set a network as "default"

I have an Airport Express.. I created my network, but each time I turn on my computer, it chooses someone elses..
Is there some way to set my own network as the "Default" ?
    Thanks,
    Awfers

First, create a new Location with your WiFi as the "Preferred Network."
Create a new network Location w/Preferred Network
    o System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    o Location: New Location...
    o Name your new location: <enter a location name>
    o Click "OK"
o Click on the "AirPort" tab to select it.
o By default, join: Preferred networks
o Select a "preferred" network from the list, or click "+" to add a new one.
    o Click "Options..."
o If no preferred networks are found: Ask before joining an open network.
    o Click "OK"
    o Click "Apply Now"
Second, setup AirPort to default to the "Preferred Network."
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
o By default, join: Preferred networks

Getting message "using network with default ssid'

First, let's address the biggest issue, the version of Firefox you are using is extremely old, out of date and insecure. Please update to Firefox 33 ASAP ([[Update Firefox to the latest version]])
After that, please give a bit more context on what exactly is going on. Keep in mind this is a Firefox support forum, we can't help you with Windows settings or setting up wireless networks.

  • Can anyone tell me how to change the names of the networks I have set up on Airport Express

Can anyone tell me how to change the names of the networks I have set up on Airport Express please? I now work in a UN compound and my network is my own name, would prefer some anonymity so seeking to change the wifi network name that others might see.

    Hi mkl1961,
Happy Holidays!  The article below will explain how to reset your Airport Express and change the network and base station names back to their defaults.
Resetting an AirPort base station FAQ - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT3728
What default settings will my AirPort base station have after a hard or factory default reset?
AirPort base stations are set to request an IP address by DHCP.
AirPort base station passwords are "public."
AirPort base station names revert to "base station xxxxxx," where xxxxxx is the last six digits of the wireless MAC address*.
AirPort base station network names are "Apple Network xxxxxx," where xxxxxx is the last six digits of the wireless MAC address*.
*A MAC (Media Access Control) address, also known as a "network ID," is a unique hardware identification number for a network port.  You can find the wireless and Ethernet network IDs on the printed label on the bottom or side of the device.

  • How do I remove Fire Fox as the default setting on my eMac computer. I am unable to open some files I need to open with Fire Fox.

I receive a newsletter that has information I need. Since I chose Fire Fox as my default setting, I haven't been able to open it. It was so easy making Fire Fox my default, but not so easy to remove it.

You should at least install the latest Firefox 3.6.28 version for your Mac OS X 10.4 PPC computer instead of the current Firefox 3.6.18 version.

Just installed Firefox for my boss, and ran into something I've not seen before. When trying to access our private camera system, that uses specific ports, I got this message: "This address is restricted - This address uses a network port which is normally used for purposes other than Web browsing. Firefox has canceled the request for your protection."
Cannot find a setting in Firefox to correct this problem. Please help.

  • 11.3 upgrade and printer policy deleting default setting

Noticed something strange since since the upgrade to 11.3 on as far as I can
tell all of our Win7x64 machines. I have our printer policies assigned to
the machines using Network (SMB / HTTP) printers. No printer is set to
default in any of the polices. When a user logs in their default setting
from the previous day is gone and no printer is set as default.
    Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
there is a string value 'Device' that contains the users printer that is set
to default. When the user logs off in the evening I can see this value is
there at that point. After logging in the next day the value is gone. I
then tried logging the user out of Zenworks via the tray icon, the key is
still there. Then log them back in via the tray icon and very shortly after
the key goes away. So something has changed from 11.2.4MU1 to 11.3.
    Anyone else seeing something similar?

    Good catch.
But when's a fix coming. I've got a client that needs the join proxy.
    I can't get that without a upgrade to 11.3.
Unfortunately, they just rolled out ~700 Win7/64 machines with ZCM
delivered printers with another 1200 to go out in the next 6 weeks.
Many or these are clinical nursing stations. I simply cannot have them
    losing their default printer.
Does anyone know when this, and the bundle deployment issue that was
also discovered recently, will be fixed?
    Regards,
    Don

  • Hp compaq d610 d40 laptop network port doesn't wake up

I have tried looking for a fix for this and can't find one so if there is one and i've missed, it my apologies but basically...
I have a hp compaq d610 model d40 and with the basic windows xp installation and the default drivers (hp) on, when the system goes into stand and then is brought out of the standby mode everything wakes up except for the network port and the only way to get this to wake up is to go into device manage and scan for hardware changes or reboot.
I have tried different drivers, bios changes (not update) with no luck but strangelly enough the other 3 makes and models of the same laptop work fine.
Now, before I look into bios updates has anybody come across this?
    Cheers

  • Time Capsule isn't responding/factory default setting?

I bought a Time Capsule few months ago. Thefirst time it all worked succesfully, it was connected with a iMac i borrowedon a school. Now I plugged it in at home, trying to back-up my Macbook Pro. I got serious problems finding the Time Capsule anywhere and TC flashing amber. I’ve tried to connect the TC with my MBP with usb, but it still don’t show up. I’ve also tried to plug the ethernet cord, but still nothing happens.
Now I’m thinking that I have to reset the TC to factory default setting, but will it then delete all my  files that I've  transferred to the TC? I would be so sad if these files was deleted, because it’s the only place where I got them. Is there another way to do this?
    Hope for some help!

First to answer the last part.. a reset will not wipe the files. So take it easy. But what you did is dangerous.. the TC is not a NAS, it is a backup device. you should always keep the files in another location.
TC is missing fundamental aspects of a NAS.. like a mirrored drive and accessible and replaceable HDD.
Now you say you plugged it in.. how?
You should plug the laptop straight into the TC with no other connection.
If the laptop does not get an IP address from the TC you might need to reset the TC or reset the ethernet on the laptop to auto.
What does I’ve tried to connect the TC with my MBP with usb mean because the USB cannot be used on the TC to connect to the laptop.
When you open the airport utility it may not find the TC if it is in bridge.. if that is the case plug it into your normal router and then plug the MBP into the TC. You should use WAN port for the router connection and LAN port for laptop to be on the safe side. See what happens.

    Hey guys,
I must have screwed something up b/c now ipfilter won't start when I do
    sudo svcadm enable svc:/network/ipfilter:default
Whenever I type svcs, It just says that it's offilne.
    offline 1:13:04 svc:/network/ipfilter:default
Any ideas where I can check why it's not working anymore? As far as I can tell my /etc/ipf/ipf.conf file is very ordinary:
    # ipf.conf
    # IP Filter rules to be loaded during startup
    # See ipf(4) manpage for more information on
    # IP Filter rules syntax.
block in log on bge0 all
pass out quick on bge0 all keep state
pass in quick on bge0 proto tcp from any to any port = 22 keep stateI'm not sure where to check logs to see why
    sudo svcadm enable svc:/network/ipfilter:default
    has failed.
    Thanks!

    Hi abrante,

  • Disable Network Port Monitoring

I have a couple network switch ports that are no longer in use. The ports had a couple of OpsMgr agents plugged into them, so they showed up as monitored ports, but those computers have now been virtualized and the physical hardware was shut
down. The network port state is now showing as Critical health in OpsMgr because nothing is plugged in. I tried to run the Disable Port Monitoring task, but it does not seem to do anything. Any ideas?

By default, Operations Manager 2012 will only monitor ports that are connected to another device that is being monitored. Ports that are not connected will not be monitored."
If you don't have a device connected to any port that is already monitored by SCOM, you can  manually enabling selected interface monitors, i.e. open the Diagram view of the interface, navigate to the port, open the Health Explorer of the port, select
the monitor such as Interface Status -> Operational Status, and create an override to enable that monitor.
