Network ports stop responding with inactivity

We installed a 4510 a couple months ago and this past weekend there was a reported power surge on the floor.  Since then I have specialized printers and thin clients that will stop responding to pings after periods of inactivity.
If I disconnect the ethernet and plug it into a laptop the network is functioning.  When I look at the show interface it reports the interface is up and passing traffic.
If I keep a constant ping going to the ip address of one of these devices it will never drop.
Any ideas on what is going on?
here is an example of a port config:
interface GigabitEthernet7/47
 switchport access vlan 1862
 switchport mode access
 switchport voice vlan 1861
 switchport port-security maximum 8
switchport port-security maximum 7 vlan access
 switchport port-security
 switchport port-security aging time 10
 switchport port-security violation restrict
 switchport port-security aging type inactivity
 load-interval 60
 storm-control action shutdown
 macro description HOST-DEFAULT
 spanning-tree portfast
 spanning-tree bpduguard enable
ip dhcp snooping limit rate 50

I don't see anything in the config that would cause disconnects except
 "storm-control action shutdown" command
so, I would delete the command and watch the behavior again.

  • CRIO disconnects from Ethernet network and stops responding to pings

We are running a cRIO application that periodically disconnects from the Ethernet network even though the VI continues to run on the cRIO.
The application has two parallel loops.  One loop reads data from the FPGA and writes it to a RT FIFO.  The second loop opens a TCP connection to a remote host, reads data from the RT FIFO, and transmits the data to the remote host.  We have instrumented each loop to send messages to the serial port that indicate their status.  When the cRIO disconnects, both loops continue to send their status messages to the serial port. The first loop happily continues reading data from the FPGA and writing it into the RT FIFO.  The RT FIFO overwrites the oldest data when it fills up to keep it from overflowing.  The second loop reports a TCP write timeout (tcp write error 56) around the time that the cRIO disconnects, after which it closes the existing TCP connection and then repeatedly tries to open a new TCP connection (each attempt times out after a 5 second delay).
All that appears normal and usually the connection is automatically restored.  Occasionally, however, the cRIO is not able to re-open the TCP connection.  Furthermore, the cRIO stops responding to pings from the remote host.  On two occasions, the cRIO was finally able to open a new connection after 30-40 minutes.  Other than that, the only way we've found out of this dilemma is to reboot the cRIO.
The frequency of the disconnects and the time before they occur doesn't seem connected to whether or not the cRIO is set to run the application at startup or if the application is run via an interactive VI window on the remote computer.
It is possible that the disconnects have something to do with which computer the cRIO is connected to, as the problems seem to happen much more frequently (often within minutes) when the cRIO is sending data to a laptop running Windows XP, but it can run for hours when sending data to a rackmount server running Windows Server 2003.  Everything else (the speed and size of data being sent, the ethernet hub and cables, the VI running on the remote computer) is the same.

We're done most of the testing with a 9014 real time controller and a 9104 chassis.  However, we've also seen similar behavior with 9014/9103 and 9102/9101 combinations.
The 9014 cRIO normally runs at around 50% CPU usage and less than 40% memory usage when the data is flowing steadily.  The RT System Monitor did not indicate a spike in either before the cRIO disconnected.
Measurement and Automation Explorer is not able to connect to the cRIO after it disconnects.  We tried pinging the cRIO from a different computer, but that also failed.
After disconnecting, the cRIO sends error messages to the serial port while trying to open a new TCP connection. It reports an error 56 (time-out error) 3 or 4 times (for a total duration of 15 or 20 seconds) and then reports an error 42 (generic error) at least 10 times per second for 18 seconds, and then switches back to 15 seconds of timeouts, and so on. When getting error 42, it ALWAYS gets it for 18 seconds straight.  It usually gets error 56 for 15 seconds (3 timeouts) but sometimes for 20 seconds (4 timeouts).
When the cRIO disconnects, it can't be contacted by any computer through the ethernet port, yet the link lights still show that it is connected. If its connected directly, both the green and orange link lights on the cRIO light up, but when it is connected through the 10 Mb hub, only the orange link light lights up, but the hub shows that the cRIO is connected to it. In spite of this, it is still impossible to ping the cRIO in either scenario.
It is possible that, in addition to what computer the cRIO is connected to, the errors could be related to whether the cRIO has a direct connection to a computer or if it is connected through a hub. Today, we have only managed to get errors when the cRIO is directly connected to a laptop (one error after 1.5 minutes, one after 10 minutes, one after 7 minutes, etc.)  There were no disconnects when the cRIO was connected to a 10 Mbps hub for more than half an hour.
Do any of those symptoms give you clues about what is happening?
    Thanks!

  • Lightroom 2.3 stops responding with keyword reorg (win 64bit - Vista)

I am trying to re-organise my keywords - making them more heirarchical, and renaming some to keep things tidy. In doing this I'm constantly getting LR2.3 stop responding.
    Some background info:
Now I have a fair few images in my current catalog - 40,000 (approx), which is stored on a dedicated WD raptor drive - which is the fastest drive I have. My CR2 raw files are split between my local disk (images being worked on), and a NAS device (older images). The Catalog is 1.3MB in size.
I would consider the quantity of images in my catalog and my setup to be something resembling that of a standard professional configuration, and I would have hoped that by version 2.3, the Lightroom code would have been better optimised to deal with the handling of large quantity metadata updates. I can only presume that Adobe have a lot more functional design and code optimisation on their to-do list for future revisions of LR - at least I'm desperately hoping so! The problem appears to be this:
In my keyword heirarchy, if I rename a top level keyword to something new, then it has to amend all image records in the database (catalog) - most of the 40,000 in my case, and I appreciate that this takes time to do. What LR doesn't do whilst these updates are taking place, is give any user feedback - it simply seems to stop functioning until it's ready to hand back user control to the operating system. The thing is, as you haven't got a clue what's going on, you just assume that the application has crashed - and for all I know it may have as all I see if I try to interact with lightroom during the hang is my task bar reporting that the application is "(not responding)". Looking at the Resource Monitor in Vista there seems to be a large network load during the time of the hanging - now I can't understand this as LR should simply be updating the records in the catalog which is on a local drive, and not having a need to access my raw files, many of which are on a network drive. If this is the cause of the slow down then it shows that there is a desperate need for revision of the functionality of Metadata updates within LR.
I'm just hoping that Adobe take stock and for future revisions of LR, concentrate on performance issues, and amending of functionality or code structure to better tune the handling of data, rather than just adding more tools and functionality to the release which slows the app even further. I'm just hoping that LR will fulfil my needs at a professional level at some point in the near future as this app is core to the running of my business - and at the moment it's having an impact on my ability to do exactly that!
Anyone else with performance issues like this?
    Thanks, Paul A

This has nothing to do with network access. I have been running the Winessentials Process Monitor app to try to figure out what's going on and I firmly believe this to be an issue with the Lightroom code. Once LR stops responding, the Lightroom process seems to go into an endless loop consuming memory on each iteration (I.e. a memory leak). Process Explorer shows every file handle and (as the directory of images I am displaying holds locally stored images only) none of the file handles are for network based files - all local files. This is what it's using in a nutshell:
The catalog file (2 handles on this)
    The Catalog journal file
the thubnail cache (2 handles on this)
a whole load of internet explorer data files inc: history.ie5\index.dat; cookies\index.dat; Content.ie5\index.dat (no idea why it requires IE data access)
    a couple of truetype fonts
a few temporary files in the user temp folder
    loads of windows device files
access to the C:\Program FilesCommon Files\Adobe\Adobe Version Cue CS4\Client\4.0.1 directory (even though I don't have version cue installed to my knowledge! - certainly no service running for this)
Private Bytes is now sitting at 1.9GB (RAM being used by LR) and its continually on the up.
During the hang, LR is trying to spawn a new thread and Process Explorer is reporting this as "Thread Lightroom.exe (6008): 6040" then moments later <Error Opening Thread>, then it loops, each time more memory is taken up.
Since updating this message the memory usage by LR is now at 2GB!
This has completely stopped responding now!
**UPDATE** After an hour of being non-responsive, LR burst back to life. I just amended one of the keyword tag options again (this tag matches against 21,000 images), removing the 'export with keywords' option, clicked OK and it's stopped responding again!

  • Photoshop PSCC 2014 stops responding with NIK Collection Plugins and when loading from Lightroom 5

I have lost the ability to be productive since purchasing the photographers CC plan and installing Photoshop CC 2014.
    1. Send photo from Lightroom 5.7 to PSCC 2014 then edit using photoshop and NIK collection plugin. Photo begins to loads into PSCC2014 then hang-up and PSCC stops responding causing me to force quit PSCC or photo loads into NIK Collection Plugin without any issues, editing is performed, but when I click "OK" the program hangs up, ( photoshop stops responding), resulting in a Force Quit and loss of all work.
    2. Send image from Lightroom 5.7 to Photoshop CC 2014 using "Edit In". PSCC2014 hangs up while loading image and has to be forced to quit or it loads photo, work is preformed and after clicking "SAVE" to return to LR 5.7 photoshop hangs up and stops responding, causing loss of all edited work.
I have uninstalled PSCC 2014 along with presets and then reinstalled. No change in outcomes! I have updated and reinstalled the NIK Collection Plugin with no change in outcome. I am unable to get any work done for the last 4 days. I am considering canceling my CC account and trying to return to working with LR 5.7 and Photoshop CS6 as I had before purchasing CC photographers plan providing I can with success return to that configuration.
Can anyone help? I sure hope so.
    Thanks… gwj

    Benjamin,
Sorry it took so long to respond to your suggestion. Long work schedules doing video production have kept me away from my home base.
I did as you suggested in you're reply and photoshop cc worked without issue and returned the photo work back to LR normally. So, I assume by this, that the issue is
the NIK plug-in? Do you now what I can do to get the plug-in working correctly? Perhaps contacting Google/NIK for a solution?
Any additional suggestions and knowledge you can pass along related to the issue at hand is greatly appreciated.

  • Can't open Final Cut X - Stop Responding with Event

Im working on a project for over a year, and suddenly I can't open Final Cut with my project and event.
It stops responding while loading my event.
I already changed the location of the biggest files (original media and renders), so I just have my event and my project files on the final cut folders.
I've tried to open this in another computer, but it still didn't work.
When I erase my event and project, there's no problem with Final Cut.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!

Why are you moving folders around?
Was FCPX acting abnormally before you moved these folders?
What do you mean by "erase  my event and project"?

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock network port has problems with our Cisco 6509 switch

We purchased a ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock for and X1 carbon and the main issue we are having is the network port does not seem to work with our Cisco 6509 switch. I tried updating the firmware on the dock but it still hasn't fixed the issue. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem with any other networks out there.

I'm seeing the same issue with a ThinkPad W520.  When I connect my ethernet cable directly to the laptop, my internet speeds are on par with my service provider of 18 Mbps.  When I move that cable to the dock, I will only see 1.5 Mbps.  I have two displays attached to the dock and I'm running Windows 7.  I've updated the dock firmware and have installed the latest system drivers.  Is there anything else to try?

  • WAP4410N stops responding with 2.0.0.5

Any news on this? I have the same problem. After a day or so it just stops responding.
I recently bought 3 of these to my office.
    Running 2.0.0.5 etc.

Same problem here as well. I hope Cisco will offer a solution ASAP! I was thinking to RMA this product before warranty expires.

  • Why do I sometimes get "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding" with WiFi but not cellular?

When my iPad is connected to the internet via WiFi I can pretty much browse without problems. However, there are certain instances where a web page is requested and I get, after a bit of time passes, “Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding”. Repeated attempts to access these web pages via WiFi connection always yield the same results. However, if I turn off WiFi I can access the same pages almost instatntly via cellular connection. Any suggestions?

What is the URL which won't open?

  • ITunes Windows stops responding with Airtunes

Playing music in iTunes works fine.
When using Airtunes, whole iTunes stops responding after some minutes! Only help is switching iTunes off and restart. But after some minutes same issue.
    Any ideas? Somebody?

the update might be choking on a song file (or files).
finding which song file is involved can be tricky. but some folks have been having some success using Roy B's instructions from the following post:

  • WAP4410N stops responding with SRW2024

I have the same problem with my two WAP4410N connected to my Cisco SRW2024 Gigabit switch.
It appears that there would be a time where the PHY's between the WAP and the switch are hung.
The lights on the Gigabit switch are constantly flashing.
It is until I disconnect and reconnect the network cable between the WAP and the Gigabit switch
that the problem is momentarily solved.  Then it seems like another high traffic usage of the
WAP will cause the connection to hang.  This solutions is totally unacceptable as I am not
willing to open my wiring closet every time to fix this hang.  Also I've lost precious data
between my client and server because of this hang!
I don't think the problem is with the Gigabit switch as I have other Gigabit devices connected
to it and I never get them to hang like the WAP.
I saw on the release notes (although the firmware has not been posted) that there is a problem
with the WAP Gigabit PHY.  From the release notes, it seems the firmware will have an
option to take down the speed of the WAP Gigabit PHY from 1000BT to 100TX.
This would be a shame if this is the final solution as one main reason for purchasing the
    WAP4410N is its Gigabit capability.
Being a networking PHY designer who had also worked on other Cisco products, I'm surprise
that this problem had not been resolved in their qualification and interoperability lab.
They should have been able to identify this problem quickly and provide the right fix.
    Cisco please help!

    Hi,
I was made aware of this issue and the work around of setting copper port seed to 100 meg, just before X-mas.
(please note: the work around will not advertise 1000M options).
I didn't even question, if this would be fixed.
I also have, to coin a expression, have my fingers crossed that the 'fix'  will be expedient, but i have no date.
We both should check this community site to see if someone has already posed any extra information regarding this issue.

  • Network Extender stopped working with new FIOS Quantum router

I have had a Network Extender for a few years (the older 1x model, SCS-26UC4) but it stopped working when I upgraded to FIOS Quantum.  That upgrade included a new router.
I have opened the TCP (53, 52428) and UDP (500, 4500, 52428) ports on the router without much luck.
The Network Extended does seem to work if I bypass the FIOS router and connect the Network Extender directly to the WAN.  So it seems the issue is in the router configuration.
All lights are blue except for the SYS light, which cycles from fast red blink, slow red blink, steady red and then blue for a while.  When it's blue the extender works (which I can tell by the sound my phone makes when it connects via the Extender).  But then it goes back to red.
One thought I had was to open a DMZ on the router but I cannot find the instructions.  It's the Actiontec MI424WR router.
    Help appreciated.

Try page 83 in the user guide for the DMZ.
Call Verizon Communications and tell them your Verizon Wireless Network Extender does not work when connected to the router, but it does work when connected directly to the ONT. You shouldn’t have to use a kludge (DMZ) to make it work, the router should be smart enough to figure it out.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 slows to unusable and stops responding with small project.

    Hi,
    Version: CS5
    Operating System: Windows 7
    Processor 3Ghz Dual core
    RAM: 4GB
I've recently developed a problem with my Dreamweaver CS5.
I have a very small project (currently 1 html file, 1 css file and some assets in folders) but opening this project makes Dreamweaver run at a crawl. Any time you click on anything you have to wait at least 10 seconds for it to respond. It also displays not responding at the top of the page.
However, if you manage to navigate to another project then it speeds right back up again! I have tried clearing all of the cache files from User>AppData>Roaming>Adobe>DreamweaverCS5>en_US but this made no difference. I've restarted the computer too. Nothing.
Any ideas how to fix this, because it makes this project unworkable.
Many thanks in advance for your help,
    Anthony

    Hi Curtis,
    Thanks for your reply!
After trying what you suggested I initially had complete success, everything worked fine. But when I moved my assets over it slowed to a grinding hault again. However, in doing so I managed to find the cause of what was making it so slow.
The background image for one of my divs was semi-transparent .png file that was 1px by 1px. I think that the Dreamweaver crashed trying to render the div because it was having to render so many copies of this pixel. I'm going to try making an image in photoshop that is maybe 10px by 10px or bigger and tile that instead. Hopefully this will solve my problem.
I'm not sure if this is the same issue you that you were having, but I figured it might be useful to know anyway.
Thank you again for your help.
    Regards,
    Anthony

What can I do to "revive" plug-ins in Photoshop CC?

What document? what layer? what tool settings? you need to provide more info. Most likely you have simply changed a setting somewhere.

  • SAPGUI Stops responding:  Erroneous data came from server

    Hi Administrtors,
I had been using SAPGUI 7.10 PL 14. When accessing to remote APP Server, the GUI stops responding. I have applied the new PL 15, and changed editor to 'New'. Now, it stops responding with a message "Erroneous data from server. SAP GUI will shutdown". With Old error, this warning is supressed, but there is no difference.
    Please help me on this.

    Hi Nikhil,
Try to uninstall and delete SAP folder from your c:\program files .. where gui is installed. Make sure to save your saplogon.ini. Then do a fresh install.
Also, see if you are not missing hosts file and all sap entries are there.

  • NVIDIA Display Driver Stopped Responding

    I have a HP EliteBook 8540w WIN 7 x64 with a Quadro FX 880M card
Regularly my graphics card stops responding with the error message ,” Display driver stopped responding and has recovered. Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 261.28 stopped responding and has successfully recovered”
This usually happens when I am scrolling ( usually with the wheel on my mouse ) in Adobe Acrobat X ( 10.0.1 ) or Mozilla Firefox 4 ( although I suspect the Flash plug-in there ) where Firefox will then crash ( Acrobat doesn't usually crash )
I have spent far too much time searching forums and updating drivers running Windows / HP updates etc and would like some real technical input. I do suspect Adobe ( I have contacted NVIDIA and HP also )  I would hope someone have access to what is actually going on here.
