Network Printer (HP IP) broadcast to OSX 10.5.8 clients

I administer a Middle School network and we have many models of HP printers active, including 4200's, 4250's, 4600's, and 2015's.  I have disabled Bonjour (mdns) on all of them internally, as well as IPX, AppleTalk, and DLC.  I have all but the 2015's and one 4200 setup on a OSX Snow Leopard server via LPD and share them out via Bonjour that way so I have more direct contol over printing.  Everything is working beautifully... except that when Leopard 10.5.8 clients attempt to add printers they see a list not only of the printers I'm sharing out via the server, but a duplicate list that includes every HP printer on the network with a kind labelled "Network Printer (HP IP)".  Neither my Snow Leopard 10.6.8 clients nor my Lion 10.7.2 clients see this extended list, only the 10.5.8 clients.
This is a problem because I do not want the 2015's or the 4200 which has been omitted from the server to be publicly accessible, I've turned off mdns for a reason.
How can I disable this "Network Printer (HP IP)" broadcast?

Hello @robjpell , welcome to the forums
Unfortunately there are no drivers available for the Officejet 4635 on Mac OS X 10.5. You can try connecting a USB to see if it will work however, there is not a downloadable driver available.
Here is also the link to the drivers page for your reference: HP Officejet 4635 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers
I hope that clarifies your concern!

  • Cant get chooser to find my network printer!

I was wondering if someone can help me..
I've tried everything on my OS 9 G4, but cant seem to get the Chooser window to select my HP PSC 1210 printer. It shows it in the left window but is greyed out. My ethernet is working perfectly. I have the printer hooked up to my OSX MacBookPro and that goes to my D-link DI 624 router and another Ethernet cable goes to my OS 9.2.1 G4 quicksliver. A printer icon is placed on my desktop but it cant find the network.
I'm stuck ANny help would be greatly appreciated.!!
    Thanks / Alexis

  • How do I get my Canon MX860 back online so I can print wirelessly on my Mac OSX 10.8.4?

I recently installed a new and bigger Time Capsule on my MacBook Pro system and since doing so, I lost the ability to print wirelessly on my Canon MX860 printer.  I am using Mountain Lion OSX 10-8-4.
I note Pahu discussion in another group on this same issue but it pertains to Snow Leopard.  I don't know how much difference it makes but when I followed his instructions, I did not get my problems resolved.  I am inserting here his discussion and in bold my comments where my results differed.
Pahu comments follow (min results in bold):  Some of the new models of Canon inkjet let you set the network settings using the touch panel on the printer. I am not sure if your MX860 has this setting, called Easy Setup under Device Settings > Network. If it does then you can change the network settings and create a new print queue on the Mac.
If it doesn't have the ability to change the settings via the keypad then you will have to connect the printer via USB to your Mac, which will create a USB connected print queue. If you then open Print & Fax, select this USB MX860 print queue and then press Options & Supplies, you will see the Utility tab. I DID NOT HAVE THAT TAB  I FOLLOWEED HIS LEAD USING THE FOILLOWING:  MAC HD/Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Utilities With this selected then click Open Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility and within this utility you will see the Network Settings button. Select this and you can then enter the new network settings, such as the SSID, type of security being used and the password for the network. Save the changes, turn off the power to the MX860 and then disconnect the USB cable.
Now turn the printer back on and open Print & Fax again. For the USB print queue you just created, you can delete this. I NEVER SAW ANY PRINT QUEUES AFTER TURNING THE PRINTER BACK ON.  ONLY THING I HAD WAS THE PRINTER LISTED IN THE WINDOW SHOWING IT WAS OFFLINE.  And for the old networked print queue, you need to delete this also. You may also need to delete the networked scanner queue if you had one. So with all the old queues to the MX860 removed you can then add the new network printer. I DID TWO THINGS, FIRST LEAVING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW, I TRIED ADDING USING + BUT NOTHING HAPPENED.  THEN I TRIED DELETING THE PRINTER IN THE WINDOW AND THEN TRIED HITTINH + BUT NOTHING EVER APPEARED.  HAD TO RECABLE THE PRINTER TO THE MACBOOK TO GET PRINTER BACK.  Click the + and wait for the MX860 to appear as a printer - it will appear first as a scanner and you can either add that now or after adding the printer. NONE OF THIS HAPPENED AND I LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES.  Several seconds after the scanner appears the printer should also appear, showing canonijnetwork in the Kind column. DID NOT HAPPEN.  Select this and the Print Using menu should automatically select the Canon MX860 series printer driver. When it does click Add to complete the network print queue creation and repeat the steps to add the network scanner if you need it.  OBVIOUSLY, NONE OF THIS HAPPENED EITHER.
NOW IT IS ME AGAIN.  Can someone please help me with this mess?  I am so frustrated with dealing with this for three days and the only way I can print is using the RSB cable which is not so cool strung across my bedfrom the computer to the printer.  Any guidance would be appreciated.  I am an old man of 73 and way over my head with this mess.  Don't know why Canon has to make this so difficult.  Thanks in advance, Ron Wikoff

I too am experiencing the same problem, my Canon MX860 printer is no longer connecting to my Airport Extreme Router. I tried following the directions on Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/wireless/router_network_change_mx34 0_mp495_mx860_mp980_mp620_mac.pdf
I have tried uninstalling all of the printer drivers, as suggested in another apple discussion, then running the Canon IJ network tool.
    I tried PAHU's response above:
Okay. No facility to add the MX860 to an Apple wireless network using the control panel so you will need to use the Canon IJ Network Tool.
So with the Mac connected to the MX860 via USB cable, open Canon IJ Network Tool (which should be located in Applications > Canon Utilities > IJ Network Tool). If you are looking in the other path you mention above, this could be an older version so download and install this latest version of the IJ Network Tool.
With the IJ Network Tool open, the first window talks about adding the printer to the network. Ensure the setting "Use the printer on the network" is set. Click OK
From the next window, the MX860 should be shown and as connected to the Mac via USB. Select it and click OK.
The next window will show the utility searching for wireless access points. A new window will then appear asking you to confirm the connection to the access point and the text will show which access point was found - which should show "Ronald Wikoff's Network". Click Yes to continue. When a window appears stating that the Canon IJ Network Tool wants to use your password, click Allow. (I cannot make it past this step. The Canon IJ Network Tool does not aoutmatically find my password. Instead I am taken to a screen where I type in my password and then attempt to connect.)
Now the window will take several seconds to setup the printer and should show a Setup Completion window. Click OK. (I never make it to this window. I receive an error message that that says the printer cannot communicate with the access point and to check the password. I checked the password then tried again. I even changed the password in the airport utility to make sure I had the correct password and it still did not work. I am starting to suspect that this may be related a recent Airport utility upgrade to 6.3.1 a few days ago.)
This will make the Add printer window appear. In the list, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be visible. If it is, select it. The "Use" menu should then show "Canon MX860 series". If it does, click Add. This will add the network printer to the Mac.
If you now open Print & Scan, the "Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)" should be in the printers list, as well as the Canon MX860 series. This latter one is for the USB connection. You could delete this printer and disconnect the USB cable.
The last step is to print a document to this network printer.
I plan on calling Canon tomorrow but if you have any other options for my to before then I am open to suggestions.

  • Network printing slow after updating to Tiger, InDesign from OS 9 PageMaker

Sorry for the "old" OS talk, but this is "new" to this shop (a small newspaper). Long overdue, I upgraded our 8 G4s to Tiger from OS 9. They're all networked to a G5, where all files are stored (graphics mostly). This G5 was installed a year ago with Tiger and served as a file server, connected via Ethernet (and SharePoints), to the OS 9 Macs. The printer is a color copier, an Océ cm2520, and DID a great job printing tabloid pages from PageMaker 7. The pages are comprised of mostly ads saved as PDFs, and some text. The pages range in size from less than 1mb to upwards of 10mb. The printer has 500mb of storage plus a 40gb HD built-in.
With OS 9 & PageMaker, tabloid pages would come out in less than one minute, the largest might've taken 3-4 minutes (big graphics & color). Now, with Tiger & InDesign CS3, the same pages take at least 15 minutes apiece to print! And even much longer when more than one page is sent at a time. The spooling part goes very quickly, but the printer takes forever to process the jobs. Nothing else has changed other than the OS and ID CS3. I did reinstall the printer with the current-most driver but no difference. I tried PDFing the pages and printing those, and that cut the print time about in half, which is still way too long and not practical on a "production" day. Small ID files still print quickly, but these PDF-ridden tabloid pages are ridiculous.
I first thought it was ID, but now am wondering if it might have something to do with how/where print jobs are spooled in OSX. Can anyone shed some light on where print files go once the Print button is hit? Is there a secret cache/print queue that might need cleaning out? Do the spooled jobs reside on the sending Macs or on the file server? I can't imagine that this one-year-old Océ printer just went bad coincidentally at the same time as the software upgrades.
Thanks for any help with this problem!

With no insight whatsoever from the manufacturer of the copier, I reformatted the internal hard disk. Life is back to normal! Apparently these HDs get fragged just like any other, so a periodic reformatting may take care of sluggish performance. Either that or the original formatting of the internal HD wasn't "compatible" with OS X.

  • Cannot print wirelessly from MacBook Pro OSX Mavericks

I cannot get my new MacBook Pro (using OSX Mavericks) to communicate with my HP Officejet4500 Wireless.  I can print when I use a connecting USB cable, but cannot print wirelessly.  All of my Mac software updates are current as of 4/20/2014, which included an update for HP printers.  When I used the disk to install the printer software, it did not have a screen for entering my wireless router ID or passcode.  In the Mac System Preferences for Print and Scan, my Officejet 4500 G510n-z is listed, but to no avail.  What do I have to do to get my Mac to print wirelessly?  Thanks.

OK, thanks for that.  It may indeed may be the problem, but let's check a couple of things first.
    1. On the printer: Setup > Network > Print Network Test.  Is the printer connected to the network?  If it is not:
         a. In the Network menu, Restore Defaults
         b. In the same Network menu, run the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the printer to your network.
    2. On your Mac, download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
         Restart your Mac.
    3. Reset the printing system:
    - Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
    - Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and then next to the "Use" pulldown, select the printer model (not AirPrint). Wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

  • Network printing without the network

I currently work in a lab where we have 3 computers attempting to share a common printer on a rather "Mac-unfriendly" network. All of the computers are running OSX 10.4.4 and are printing to an hp color laserjet 3500. The network administrators are going to impose new restrictions in the coming months that will prevent network printing or using direct TCP/IP protocols to print. We are discussing networking all of the computers through a hardwired router/hub to try and circumvent the problem.
    A. Will this work?
    B. What kind of configuration will I need to use?
    C. Since the router exists outside of the network will we still be able to fileshare between these computers (i.e. they are hardwired together so do we really need the network)?
Any help and/or guidance is greatly appreciated.

agoodwill, Welcome to the discussion area!
Yes that will work. If you use a router, you only need to configure your Macs to use DHCP to get an IP address.
If you use an Ethernet switch or hub, configure each of your Macs to use a manual IP address that is in the same subnet as the IP used by the printer. If the printer has an IP like 192.168.1.10, then configure your Macs to use IPs like 192.168.1.20, 192.168.1.21, 192.168.1.22, etc. Configure your Macs so that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

  • Can't print to ethernet networked printer... suddenly!

Today, for some reason I can't print to our networked printer, a Kyocera FS-6950DN laser. All I am getting now is a 'Network host is busy, will retry in 10/15 secs' and the job just holds.
So, what have I tried. To eleminate any printer issues I have successful managed to print direct from my MacBook (also running OSX 10.6.8) without a problem. So the printer seems fine. However, if a connect directly (again via a single ethernet cable) to my MacPro it won't print. I have deleted the printer and created a new one. Actually, I have done this several times. When I go to create a new printer I can see the printer listed a a bonjour printer. I select it, then I use 'generic postcript'.  I can choose the my printer here, but I seem to remember that this was a problem when I set it up originally and I was advised to use the generic option. I click add and that used to work. But not now. I have checked that the printer has a static ip address and it does. I have also tried adding the printer as an IP printer and adding the IP address etc maually, but again this doesn't work. I've tried this both with LPD set or IPP set. I get the same busy error message.
Trawling the net I have noticed lots of people with Kyocera print issues relating to the latest OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update. Although having succesfully printed from my MacBook that would suggest that 10.6.8 isn't the issue in my case.
Any help or pointers in the right diection would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks – Roy
I should also say that I have done the usual... repaired the permissions and reset the PRAM etc. I have ping tested the connection from my MacPro and there is a response from the printer. It's just not finding the printer when I send the job to print?

Managed to fix this by changing the ip address on the printer. It seems that the address was out of range for our new router. Changed the printers static address back to something within range and the printer bust into life. Simple as that. Only took me a day and a half to work it out... : )
If you have similar issues I hope that my post is helpful.

  • Wireless Network Printing; "Network is Busy", Cannot ping printer from my Macbook Pro

I have a MBP (Mac OSX 10.6.8, Intel i7) connected wirelessly to a Actiontec Q1000 wireless router.  The wireless router has a printer connected via a LAN ethernet cable.  I am able to log in to the router (192.168.0.1) and see the printer (192.168.0.8), and from the router's Utilities I can ping the printer using the router's ping tool.  I am unable to ping the printer from my MBP.  I am unable to log into the printer's IP address by typing in 192.168.0.8 in my browser window.
I also have a Windows laptop connected to the same wireless network.  From the router, I can see the Window's laptop (192.168.0.10) and the Windows laptop can ping the printer (again, 192.168.0.8).  Additionally, from the Windows laptop I can log into the printer's IP address by typing in 192.168.0.8 in my browser window.
The printer is a Dell 1700n and I am using the "Generic Postscript Printer Driver".  I am able to delete the printer, and then add it back in as a USB connected printer and print fine.  I then delete the printer and add it back in as a network printer (192.168.0.8) and am then unable to print.  I am getting an error that says "Network is busy, will retry in ___ seconds".  I then get a error message that says the "Printer is busy".
Using the MBP's "Network Utility's" ping tab, I am able to ping the router (192.168.0.1), the other Windows laptop (192.168.0.10), my Roku (192.168.0.7), etc.  I am unable to ping the printer (192.168.0.8).
From my Window's CMD prompt, I am able to ping the router (192.168.0.1), my MBP (192.168.0.5), my Roku (192.168.0.7) and the printer (192.168.0.8).  I am also able to print wirelessly from my Window's laptop (192.168.0.10).
I have looked for a CUPS printer driver for my Dell 1700n printer, but there is only a CUPS printer driver for the Dell 1710n printer (which is different).
I have also googled around and found that the Dell 1700n is an old Lexmark E322 printer, so I installed the CUPS Lexmark E322 printer driver.  I then try to print wirelessly from my MBP and nothing.
This is clearly a network MBP issue, and I have searched the forums but have been unable to track down a solution.  I would appreciate anyone's help to enable me to:
    1.  Be able to ping my printer (192.168.0.8),
    2.  Be able to log in to my printer via a web browser (http://192.168.0.8), and
    3.  Be able to print wirelessly to the printer from my MBP.
    Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    MC

So I spent almost 3 hours on a share session with Lexmark, who I must say I was incredibly impressed with their patience.  Long story short, my wife and I have the exact same MBPs.  Her MBP was printing fine to the same printer.  The tech and I verified that all of our network settings were identical.  At the end of the day, the solution was power cycling the router.  Poof.  Magic.  No idea why the power cycle worked, but it worked and I now have a solution.  Let me know if anyone has any questions about all of the steps in between.

  • Network printing with an HP LaserJet 4 on a D-Link DP-301P+ Server

I have been trying in vain to connect my MacBook to my HP LaserJet4 printer using a D-link DP-301P+ print server. I have OSX 10.4.6 and have tried both the default browser and IP address options. The system finds the D-Link server, but when I load the Gimp driver for the printer, the print test page is grayed out and when I try to print a page, the page is sent to the que but the job immediately stops without generating output. There is no error message, just the stop octogon over the printer and the print job. I have been able to use the printer over the network with a PC. Any advice?

LPD requires the device queue name/port name - try P1, or the port name which I think is listed on the label of the print server (looks something like PS-12345-P1). I see no evidence that IPP (=Internet Printing Protocol, not IP printing) is supported by this print server.
The default IP address for the print server is 192.168.0.10. Have you set it to be in the same subnet as your router and computer(s)? same subnet means only the last part of the IP is different - 192.168.1.xxx.

  • Help with a network printer

I'm at the end of my knowledge level here. I am trying to hook up a network printer that my IMac can print to. I have it connected to a printer sharing unit (Linksys PSUS4 named LK8295C2) at address 192.168.0.105. The printer is a Brother 1240 Laser printer. It's not listed in the printer lists or printers that are provided with OSX Tiger so I downloaded a PPD file from Brother but I still can't get it to work. Can anyone tell me what files (drivers) I need, where the file has to be and how I can get the IMac to use it? I tried to print to it and all I get are 2 sheets of paper with a diamond on each one. Helpppp! I've been at this for over a week.
    Thanks!!

Thanks Tom. I tried that but all I get out of the printer is trash and lots of pages of it. I'm not sure what the problem is. Anyway, I got frustrated enough that I bought a $49 printer and installed it directly on the iMac (not the best solution but the only one that works for now). I even tried using the $49 printer on the printer sharing device and it said it printed but nothing came out. I'm very frustrated with my Macs. they are really good machines but nothing is simple with them. I have to have a couple of windows systems and they just seem to work so much better as far as being able to see things on a network and hooking things up. It's probably my lack of knowledge on how to trouble shoot, knowing where things go, and generally knowing how the OS works. I've been in computers since around 1975 and this is the first time I have felt like a newbie without any idea on what I am doing. I'm also trying to figure out why my iMac 2.0Ghz with 1G of memory runs circles around my PowerMac dual 1.8Ghz with 3G of memory and 2 Sata drives. The same operations in Photoshop take much longer on the PowerMac. Argggggg... frustration!

  • How to setup a network printer via http

I have a router with a USB printer attached to it. It looks like this:
    Printer status: Ready
    Printer location: http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer
In Windows you setup a network printer and the printers address is the http address above. How do you add this type of printer in the printer setup utility on Mac OSX 10.4.11 and 10.5.x?

For OS X 10.5, you use the following settings
As mentioned by bdaqua, open Print & Fax and click the IP icon and then select IPP from the top drop menu. Then in the Address field just enter the IP address; don't enter the leading 'http://' and don't enter the :631 (the mere fact that you have selected the IPP protocol means that it will communicate on port 631)
Then in the queue field you can enter printers/My_Printer, although some router perform a translation for the shared printer so you only need to enter the shared printer name in the queue field.
As for the name and location fields, these are just free text for the local user and have no bearing on the queue details.
And as for 10.4 I have no idea or way to test this at home. But if you use a mix of mine and bdaqua's information you should be okay.

  • Mavericks:  Killer of Networked Printing

I'm a veteran user of PC/Windows after 2y owning a MBP I'm still amazed at how much stuff just is bizarre in the OSX world that worked flawlessly in the Windows world, at least since Win 7 especially.  Very difficult to do the most common tasks used all of the time for me as a somewhat power Windows user, in the OSX world.  For example:  no way to role back a driver installation or application if it turns out not to be a good thing without an entire blithering Time Machine restore.  That, is just too lame!  Next comes the very commonly used column header sort feature in Windows Explorer.  Just doesn't work nearly as well in OSX world.  When I updated to Mavericks, I discovered the very lovely kind of horizontal hourglass display of Safari Top Sites was removed in the latest version, and there is no way to revert back to the prior version.  As well, one could swipe thru history pages in the prior version (at least the one assoc w/ Lion) has now been removed and we have an ugly list now and no way to view these pages unless I missed something.  Next comes the very very frequently use Screen Print, Home & End buttons in the default Windows keyboard.  These features are used very frequently, and yet they don't exist in OSX, at least on my smaller MBP keyboard.  Instead, it's a key combination I have a hard time remembering, and it just doens't work quickly and intutively as it does in Win world.  These are real productivity features.
Now comes my HP Photosmart D5400 connected to my MSHome network:  worked fine prior to Mavericks, now, despite the fact Software Update installed the alledgedly updated driver for X, not happening, for me and what sounds like everything else.
OSX is not the best productivity OS unless you're really an advanced user it would appear.   I really do like many features of this MBP, but so many areas are just plain odd in this day an age in terms of practicality and productivity.  And a huge one is:  no built-in way to role back to prior states w/o restoring from a former image.
I'm hoping if I post here when the soln to network printing (not some blithering work around!) is posted hopefully I can print wirelessly once again.  The problem is posted all over the web so I won't go into detail, and don't want to bother w/ other ways of making the broken thing work as a work around.  I tried a few of those last evening, killing a good hour+ to no avail.  May end up going back to Lion if I can figure out how to restore just the OSX partition from an external TM back up I did early on, taking care to save all my data prior to that.  I do like a feature or two in X, but they're not really all that useful in the end.

This pretty much sums it up:
Reverting a system backwards from Mavericks is no picnic
Summary: After installing OS X Mavericks to their systems, some users want to go back to whatever system version they had before, usually Mountain Lion or Lion. However, a retrograde is not an easy process.
By David Morgenstern for The Apple Core |     November 1, 2013 -- 05:42 GMT (22:42 PDT)
Following an installation of OS X Mavericks to their system, a number of readers have contacted me about retrograding, returning to an older version of the OS. They seem to believe that this is a process similar to the upgrade: simply clicking a few buttons in Time Machine and it will be done. Nothing can be further from the truth.
Man oh man, that is so blithering lame--for 2013!

  • Network printer not responding

    Hello
When I try to print from my MacBook to my Canon network printer, I get the error message "printer not responding", even the printer works fine with both windows notebooks connected to the same WLAN.
I have a Canon MF8540Cdn printer connected with Ethernet to my router. The printer has the ip address 10.1.1.10, the gateway is 10.1.1.1 (Router IP) and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
Then I have three notebooks, one MacBook (IP 10.1.1.101) and two windows notebooks (a HP notebook (IP 10.1.1.102) and a Lenovo notebook (IP 10.1.1.103)). All three notebooks are connected wo the same WLAN using enterprise encryption.
The two windows notebooks can print to the canon printer perfectly fine and have not havd any issues at all.
However, from the MacBook I can not print since the upgrade to OSX 10.9.1 Mavericks. I have the latest update from Mavericks.
So, I deleted the printer (settings - printer) and resetted the printing system and deleted the printer also in the folder "Library - Printers". Then I got the latest driver (version 10.2) from Canon and installed the driver (dmg file).
Next I added the printer in the in the settings  as follows:
    1. Hit the "+" buttton to add a printer
    2. Select "IP"
    3. enter the ip address of the printer (10.1.1.10)
    4. Select "Line printer daemon"
    5. The system automatically detected the printer "MF8500 Series" and filled in the location.
    6. Add the printer
When I open the printer options now, I can see the toner levels corretly, so the MacBook must have connection to the printer.
In addition, I can open the printer web address in Safary by going to http://10.1.1.10 , this also works fine and I can modify settings too. So the IP connection is also fine here.
But, when I print a document, PDF, Word, Safari,..., the system firs report "connecting to the printer" and after a while it states "printer not responding"!
The printer seems not to get any info, as it does not start or show any error message.
However, the two windows notebooks can print fine, and I tried to print from windows, then directly after print from the MacBook, or first MacBook then windows or both allone, wait 1 hour print from MacBook, then wait one hour and print from Windows.
The result is always the same. The windows print fine, the MacBook does not print and reports printer not responding.
If I check the log file on the MacBook, it shows the time and the job number and then printer not responding.
Meanwhilte I deleted the printer aleready a couple times and also reinstalled the printer driver from Canon. On the Canon cummunity I also submitted a ticket, but everybody responded that the driver works perfectly fine.
Any idea, where the problem could be?
    Thanks for any help,
    Rolly

    Select "Line printer daemon"
Why are you doing that? When you select the printer in the Add dialog, the driver should be entered automatically. Does that not happen?

Machine: PowerMac Dual 500Mhz with OSX (10.4.4).
Connection: LAN Port 4 on NetComm PLUS 4 combined ADL Modem/Router
This "Dual" is connected to LAN Port 3, but was FIRST connected via USB until I obtained a suitable CAT 5E lead. Since changing to a Network connection I have had nothing but trouble in maintaining a working printing function!
Incidentally, I had enabled Network-printing from an eMac (LAN Port 2) sited in another room. I had no trouble choosing the MFC_425CN and printing (or copying) from the eMac!
. . In the Brother folder in Library/Printers the driver installation creates a Utilities folder . . . two utilities (Brother Status Monitor & RemoteSetup) have no difficulty controlling functions, and read-back, from the MFC_425CN!!
It seems to be another utility- DeviceSelector, which is having problems! This sometimes shows a USB to NETWORK switch panel, but presently is cycling along with the panel whichs allows
" IP Address ", " Node Name ", " Scan To naming ", etc!!! When that USB to NETWORK switch panel returns in its cycle -- it indicates: USB!!

Well -- I don't exactly know HOW I did it!
I created a SECOND Brother MFC_425CN printer profile . . . picked it for a six page PDF, and initiated a PRINT. When that started to work, I cancelled the unsuccessful Job on the earlier profile, and DELETED that profile!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this SECOND profile will work another day!!
(note: The six page PDF was the installation notes for AmigaOS4.0 Update #4 that I installed some days back; without those notes in my hand!)

  • Lexmark T522 Network printer busy. Works with PC., Lexmark T522 Network printer busy. Works with PC.

I've been trying to setup my T522 network printer with my OS X 10.6.7. All I get when I try to print is a busy indication. I can get control of the printer through the IP address and all seems fine. Also I just got it to work through my PC first time. Thanks

Did you get drivers from the Lexmark website?
Printing solution for Mac OS X v.10.6
Is "wired" via USB or ethernet? If USB, you may need to run the printer through a powered hub to keep the power up. Looks like you have to use an optional ethernet card with that model--a great solution if you have it.
