Network printing without the network

I currently work in a lab where we have 3 computers attempting to share a common printer on a rather "Mac-unfriendly" network. All of the computers are running OSX 10.4.4 and are printing to an hp color laserjet 3500. The network administrators are going to impose new restrictions in the coming months that will prevent network printing or using direct TCP/IP protocols to print. We are discussing networking all of the computers through a hardwired router/hub to try and circumvent the problem.
A. Will this work?
B. What kind of configuration will I need to use?
C. Since the router exists outside of the network will we still be able to fileshare between these computers (i.e. they are hardwired together so do we really need the network)?
Any help and/or guidance is greatly appreciated.

Yes that will work. If you use a router, you only need to configure your Macs to use DHCP to get an IP address.
If you use an Ethernet switch or hub, configure each of your Macs to use a manual IP address that is in the same subnet as the IP used by the printer. If the printer has an IP like 192.168.1.10, then configure your Macs to use IPs like 192.168.1.20, 192.168.1.21, 192.168.1.22, etc. Configure your Macs so that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

The drivers for the PIXMA iP2600 can be downloaded from the Canon USA website. The following link will take you to the initial download page for your PIXMA iP2600:

Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
1. Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
2. Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "DRIVERS" section and click the printer driver file. When you do, another page will appear giving details of the file you are about to download will appear.
3. Please scroll down on the Details page and agree to the terms of the disclaimer message to continue with the download process by clicking on the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button. After clicking the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button, follow the instructions to download and install the driver. The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.

I see that you are in need of the Software and Drivers for your printer.
Please click on the following link for the HP Print and Scan Drivers: USB Support. Save the file to the Desktop of the computer and once the download is complete, double click on the new icon that is now on the Desktop.

If you use Software Update, probably got installed. If you are like me, you clone your system before any update or changes, in case something breaks.
Windows you don't or haven't heard of? VM = virtual machine, ie a guest OS running under Mac OS (or running natively on its own partition, seeing sometimes there is software that is essential but only needed for business or once in a while). Runs just like another app (and uses an app to control the guest OS).

Printing without the Internet

I was wondering if anyone knows a way around my predicament.
I'd like to take my Ipad (3rd generation, wifi, 16gb) on fieldwork, but there is no internet access and I need to be able to print off a reportI'll write (pages/word file) whilst I'm there. Most people have laptops and will get the file to my tutor's main laptop (a macbook pro) via a USB drive to print but obviously the Ipad cannot do this.
Is there any kind of 30pin to usb port adaptor I can get? Or any other way around this? I was told syncing via itunes might be difficult as the itunes are different accounts. Any ideas please?

There is no real way to print from an iPad without access to a network. However, take a look at dropbox. I have not used it so I can't comment on if it would work for you. I believe that you would still need 3G or wifi internet access. I can print to a non-airprint printer using FingerPrint to access the printers connected to my computer. How is your tutor able to print from the mac pro in the field?

Cannot print without the GRID showing thru...

Apparently there is no way to print an imported Excel Sheet without the GRID.
Every sheet is imported as a single table with it's GRID showing up as a visible border. Simply, it does not recognize the difference between a GRID and a BORDER.
The only way to get rid of the GRID, is to completely reformat the document by taking out all BORDERS and applying new ones.
That will not work! No one is going to spend time reformatting a document that works perfectly in Excel.
Until this is solved, Numbers will seldom be used.

I have a 20 tab excel workbook with several printed pages on each tab that I work with regularly. It has many text boxes, borders thicknesses,and hatches. It imports just fine into numbers with a little tweeking of content scale to get it to print one page wide. I tried cahnging the color of the cell borders to white and cell borders to none. Guess what? It takes out ALL the fancy ones as well.
I am printing and submitting these sheet to a government facility and they are not complaining (so far) with ghost grid lines, But it sure would be appreciated to have more control over the printing of these unneeded gridlines.
I really don't want to recreate the whole thing and am trying to abandoned my addiction to excel all together.

Why won't emails print without the word "print" be...

I am tired of not being able to print emails without the word "Print" appearing at the top of the page. I don't think this used to happen in the "old" BT email system, so why now? It just looks silly. Can I print an email without this appearing at the top?

I have to reinstall my HP Photosmart C4480 all in one parinter onto my lap top and I cannot find the CD. Is there a way I can do in online without the cd?

Install what? If it is the PSC 1410 then what operating system? Do you have a 32 bit or 64 bit version? See my post here.

Create a pdf print without the HD files

Hello every one,
Working on Macintoch with Lightroom 4.2
Before we were able to print a pdf file on Mac, even if we weren't connected to the Raw files.
It was enought to click on "brouillon" in french, what is draft I think in english I think.
But now with lightroom 4, I can't do it anymore.
Is it another way to do it ?
It was realy helpfull while you were traveling, you didn't have to plug you hard drive, and it was plenty enough to show to my client.
And also it was way faster, and I didn't have to travel with all my HD files.

I don't know why it changed, but you could put in a feature request at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum
In the meantime, besides waiting until you're back at the office or travelling with your photos, that plug-in I posted is your best bet. It'll output the largest previews that LR has available, so you can then import those into Lr for printing or showing your clients.

How Can I Print without the shadowed grid lines showing up?

Does anyone know how to print out a page where your bordered cells show up and the background shadowed grid or cells don't print?

You can take control of your grids and outlines by using the Tables Inspector > Cell Borders.
What you described sounds like grid lines set to "Thin" and the color set to a shade of gray. You may also choose None or a number of other patterns, colors and thicknesses. Do some experimenting. The range of cells you have selected will be affected by your choices.
