Network problems 10.8 and mavericks both

Just got a new 27" iMac and have set it up fine on 10.8, i have now upgraded to Mavericks.
Now we have a NAS network drive for sharing files in the office, we have used this between macs and PCs for a few years now without problem, it has a network volume called 'guestshare' which doesnt require a password or login to access...
now i have had macs of all sizes and ages access this, the older ones OSX 10.4 and previous, i used Go>Connect to Server and selected the drive and was asked which volume i wanted to mount, then selected the 'guestshare' to get access, it appeared as a network drive on the desktop.
the newer one 10.5 i think, i simply went through the finder window, and network was available at the side, and you could navigate into the drive and select guestshare just like any folder on the computer no problem.
now my new iMac had 10.8 and i couldnt see any obvious quick network in the finder window, so i tried the old way Go > connect to server, this works but once connected the folder has a no entry label and i get the message:
"The folder "guest-share" can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents."
I have now upgraded to Maverwicks, thinking may aswell try that to see if that fixes it, but im getting same problem
Any ideas why this would be?

i just checked on the other mac and it lists the server as:
cifs://workgroup;user1@millgaetdrive1/guest-share
(the millgaetdrive1 is the name of the NAS drive)

  • Network problems with TC and windows vista

When I try to transfer data from my laptop using Windows vista to the TC, I get an network error message after a few seconds saying the computer is not connected to the network. I have no problems transferring small files (that take less than a few seconds to transfer) and the external router, my laptop and the TC are located close to each other. I tried almost everything but i don't know what the problem is.
    Any suggestions?

Hello Bastiaandp. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There is quite a bit of dialogue going around the Internet about Windows Vista & Windows 7 when it comes to file sharing with either the Apple AirPorts or Time Capsules. Most of this dialogue seems to be revolving around the version of SMB used by the newer Microsoft OSs and that used by these routers for files sharing.
A number of suggested solutions have been proposed, but none at this time, have provided a "permanent" solution. I too have experienced this same issue and have tried a number of these solutions. What finally worked for me was to make sure that: 1) The Workgroup name used on my Win 7 computer exactly matched the Workgroup name setting on the Disks > File Sharing tab within the AirPort Utility for my base station, & 2) That this name did NOT include any spaces. In my case, I used WORKGROUP for both settings.
Since doing so over six months ago, I have had no problems copying/moving files between my PC and the AirPort, regardless of their size.

  • Problems with Bonjour and Mavericks

I actually have problems getting a Network printer working under Mavericks on a brand new Macbook Pro.
The Printer is an HP Officejet 8500, wich is connected to a Qnap TS-269.
In the config of the NAS, Bonjour is activated.
When I now try to install it, I can see it listed as available printer.
Its named "NAS (Aiprint)", and the installtion seems to work properly.
I choose the right driver (v 3.3.3) and tried to print a test page, wich results in egypt hieroglyphics.
I tried all possible varitions, like using generic postscript printer, the airprint driver, but all leads to the same result.
Installing it manually as IPP-Printer (wich is defined by the NAS-Manual) doesnt work at all.
With all other machines, windows and various osx versions, it works fine.
Any Ideas? The update for that printer-driver from HP doenst help too, seems like its only fixing a bug for USB-connections.

Adobe needs to figure this out quick or it will lose a bunch of customers.
Are you running OS X 10.9.4? Updated Premiere Pro to the latest version (a new one just came out). Please try that if you have not. Also, please remove any third party plug-ins. After doing so, please check and see if your system is behaving normally.
Keep in mind that your issue, and many others, are not solely Adobe issues. We are working with other partners, like Apple, in solving certain problems. • Printing problems with acrobat and Mavericks

We just got a new Mac Mini to replace an old iMac to drive our printers. We normally print from Acrobat Pro 9 ( 10.6.8 & 10.8.5 ) and have no problems. We migrated everything over to the Mini, which is running Mavericks, and now when we print a 2 page document the 2nd page is printing 180 degrees turned around. Printed the same file from another Mac with no problems. I've heard that Mavericks will only run Acrobat Pro XI. This is insane, that's like $450! Could it be a driver or something simple that I can't see for the life of me? BTW, this Mini will be running 10 printers at once, the old one did it.

Have you reset the printing system…
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
Does Preview do any better? That will indicate if it's the printer driver or something in the application's printing system.
It would be worth checking that the printer drivers are up to date - a migrated driver may not be appropriate for 10.9.

    Windows continues to suck.

For the Tiger machines, the Windows machine recognizes the computer and drives, but many of the files and folders are missing, including a large important one. There is no obvious way for it to refresh or update.
On the 10.4 machines on the network, the Windows machine recognizes the user folder, but none of the drives containing any of my files.

  • [SOLVED]MSI P31 Neo -mobo and strange network problems

I can't get network to work properly with this MSI-mobo's integrated lan chip.
When I boot from Arch install cd r8169-module is loaded and I can get ip via dhcp. Strange thing is that I can access http but not ftp. When I change transfermode to passive from links ftp works. But during Arch install setup I can't access the repos.
When I boot to Arch after install network doesn't work at all. Only thing I get is resolv-errors when I try to use wget or pacman. R8169 module is loaded at boot and Ifconfig shows that I have ip assigned to eth0.
I also tried with 3com's 3c509 network card that I had laying around and I have exactly same network problems with it as I have with r8169.
I am really going out of my mind with this. I have a laptop with via's network chip and I've never had any network problems with it and Arch. I haven't changed anything in my routers setup and I just tried and the networking on my laptop works just fine.
I also tried Ubuntu Hardy on this desktop machine and networking works ok. Ubuntu also loads the r8169 module as Arch does.

    UPDATE:
I tried booting with 2 RAM Chips and it works great! This seemed to be the problem.
The ram IS double sided which would explain it.
If you are wanting some more system specs, just ask and I will try and get the most I can.

If I could run 4gb it would be great but I cannot seem to find the SPD in bios. My BIOS is American Megatrends Inc. v02.61 so it would be great if you could help me with that!

  • Migration Assistant Network Problem ?

I have been running Migration Assistant for about 2 days now using firewire from MacBook Pro to iMac Now it keeps coming up with "Might be problem with network" I have checked all passwords reset Router and Time Machine and both computers are able to communicate through them It now says about 12 hrs 33 min remaining and sticks at that but still "Might be problem with network" If I shutdown and reboot both computers will it start from where it left off or at the beginning again? Help please !!

The iMac just stays saying "waiting for other Mac to restart". I have checked all connections re-set router and Time Capsule Made sure that all passwords are correct re-booted both computers.
This setup should just be using a Firewire cable connected between the two Macs, with the iMac running Migration Assistant & the other Mac in FireWire target disk mode. Networking connections & devices like Airport, Time Capsule, routers, etc. should have nothing to do with it.
For this setup, make sure you choose the Migration Assistant option to transfer data 'From a Time Machine backup or other disk' & not either of the options that mention a Mac on a network. Before you start Migration Assistant, put the other Mac in target mode & make sure it shows up in Finder.

  • Is Apple doing anything to fix the problem with displaylink in Mavericks?

I have been doing the Beta track for several years.  Apple has been fairly good about ironing out the bugs before a release (as compared to Microsuck and other OS alternatives).  But this problem with DisplayLink and Mavericks is about to kill me.  I've been running multiple displays for several years and never had problems with prior OSX versions.  My work computer (Macbook Pro) is still running Lion and works perfectly with DisplayLink and two 27" Samsung HD monitors.  I would really love to get back to using the monitor setup with my Dev environment, however I can't even get a 2013 model Mavericks Macbook Pro to recognize that the DisplayLink device (IBM USB3.0 dock) is connected.
Once or twice I've gotten one monitor to show up after using the computer for a random amount of time.  On that occasion, suddenly the main screen blinked and the second monitor came to life.  I was reading webmail with Safari at the time and no other apps were running or had been started when it happened.  This sort of thing isn't what I would classify as release-ready.
Every seed announcement I keep hoping for a fix, but after 3 since the Mav release, I'm beginning to lose hope.  Anyone have info on how this might be made to work?
    Thanks
    David

DisplayLink also points fingers at Apple, which may be completely valid, but expecting Apple to put much effort into problems that only affect third-party hardware using an unsupported interface seems a bit of wishful thinking.
However, rumor sites indicate a focus on graphics in the next update : http://www.macrumors.com/2014/03/06/apple-seeds-first-os-x-10-9-3-build-to-devel opers/
