Network problems since 10.9.2 update

Hi,
I am experiencing a number of problems after my update to 10.9.2 on a mid-2010 Macbook Pro including:
My network printers no longer were reachable. I had to delete them and add them back again.
Airport Utility no longer sees any of my Airport base stations (I have 4).
I cannot access my Time Machine backups that were stored on a disk attached to one of the Airport base stations.
Network attached storage that supports AFP no longer appears in the Devices area of the left banner under the Finder. I still can mount the folders directly through Connect to Server...
I have tried resetting PRAM, restoring OS X from the recovery partition, reinstalling 10.9.2 from the combo updater, and deletion of various plist files related to networking/airport. Nothing seems to work.
I performed the update on a mid-2012 MacBook Air with a very similar configuration (same printers, network) without a hitch.
Anyone see similar symptoms and find a fix?
Thanks.

Not sure this is helpful to you but can't find a better place to provide this solution to a problem I had with the wi fi on my iMac not being recognised by any of my other devices following the upgrade to OS X 10.9.2.  After many searches on line and dicussions with Apple support, I realised the problerm was not with the iMac but with my USB internet connection (I live in the country beyong fibre or copper).  It was simply that the USB plugin had not been upgraded to deal with 10.9.2.  Plugged it  into a PC and it automatically upgraded all drivers as it set up to provide internet connection for the PC.  Back to the iMac and wi fi is now recognised by all devices.  What a trial but also a triumph!

  • File Transfer Over Network Problem since 10.4.9 Update

Since the update I've had this problem. Here's a typical operation:
In a finder window, from my PowerMac G5, I click on Network and mount a disk from another Mac on the Network (Intel Mac Mini). I navigate to that mounted disk and drag a 1.5GB file from it to a directory on my G5.
This used to take a couple of minutes before the update. Now it takes over 4 hours! My network looks like this:
Intel mac Mini (10.4.9) hard-wired to new Airport Extreme 802.11n
    PowerMac G5 (10.4.9) hard-wired to new Airport Extreme 802.11n
Pwerbook (10.4.8) Wi-Fied to new Airport Extreme 802.11n
I don't understand why this is happening or how to correct this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I do this operation frequently and 4+ hours is totally unacceptable.
    Thanks!
    G5 2.5gHz PowerMac, Mac Mini Core Duo, G3 400mHz Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I found out that about the same time as the update one of my five external hard drives started going south on me. When it got to the point of no return where it wouldn't mount any more I took it off the Mac. The network is running fast and fine now. For some reason the drive was slowing everything up. Weird.

  • Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.

Wifi problems since 10.5.8 Update. Even after Snow Leopard Upgrade.
Is there any way to use a 10.5.7 wireless .kext files on Snow Leopard? And where can I find the files?

Ok, I have the fix!! After several frustrating days it finally just works.
    The process:
Upgrade your Macs to 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Powercycle your modem AND time capsule / airport TWICE
Reset your time capsule with a pin or paperclip on the back
Follow the prompts to setup your time capsule / airport access
    -- On your Macs
    Go to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced > TCP/IP
Click "Renew DHCP Lease" then click "Ok"
    Click Apply
    Turn off Airport
    Turn Airport on
    IT WORKS!!!
One of the magical people at tech support walked me through it earlier today. The whole process took about 1.5 hrs because Show Leopard takes about an hour to install on one machine.
    Hope this helps-

Facing network problem with iPhone 5s after updating it to iOS 7.1.2 , using Vodafone in india. if at one place network is full then after few minutes at same place i get no network ? what can be done ?

    Hi srikka,
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with the iOS 8 upgrade on your iPhone 5s; I know how frustrating that can be, especially on a device you use every day like a smartphone. If you continue to have issues with your WiFi and cellular data connections, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful:

  • Anyone else notice slower network performance since Apple TV 3 update?

Ever since I updated the ATV to the 3 software, my download and "ready to play" times have increased dramatically. Several of the rented HD movies also stalled during playback, something that never happened with the Take 2 software. Noticing no network problems with other connected devices. I connect via Qwest DSL 8Mbit service via an Apple Airport dual band N router (late 2008). Anyone else see this slowdown?
    Steve in Spokane

    I'm running:
    - Mac Mini running iTunes sharing a library with my AppleTV
    - AppleTV running 3.0.1
    - Time Capsule running the wireless network
Since the last update I've been having significant streaming problems between my iTunes library and the AppleTV. Streaming video was stopping every minute or two, downloading from iTunes Store was very slow, and even basic music streaming was stuttering regularly.
Looking at my Airport Utility client connectivity graph, I noticed that the AppleTV connection was plotting a significantly different line to my other wireless clients on the Time Capsule. Sorry, I'm not a Wireless expert, so won't try to diagnose this graph.
So I tried different wireless channels. I tried removing wireless clients. I tried rebooting all individual components. Nothing changed.
So I plugged in my Airport Express and swapped my AppleTV to a wired connection to the Airport Express operating as a wireless client in a WDS network from my Time Capsule.
Everything now works just fine. No stuttering, not dropouts, fast speeds.
My suggestion is that in the latest software for AppleTV, Apple have broken the Wireless code.

  • Startup problem since 5/07 security update

I've been having serious problems with startup since the last security update. Startup hangs at the first gray screen or the while screen with the Apple logo. Sometimes multiple restarts get me to the login screen. Safe mode gets me there as well, but the next time I log in the same problem occurs. I have cleaned caches, deleted extensions, deleted fonts, used several shareware programs to clean up my startup files.
Yesterday, when I booted up, a small camera appeared mid-screen with a face alternating with a question mark. The camera blinks back and forth for a long time. Once startup made it to the login screen, but I didn't want to login, since I didn't know what it was. Today I tried to login again. The camera is still there--no surprise--but this time startup is stalled at the gray screen and the fans starts up and runs with no progress.
Any ideas? My iMac has worked perfectly until I did the last security update. I am pretty careful about downloads or opening any unknown files, so I'd be surprised if I have a virus. Others in my family use the iMac, but they're pretty saavy about viruses.
I'm about to reinstall OSX, but want to see if anyone has run into this and found a way around.

Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior

  • Battery problems since 10.4.3 update?

I know that there a quite a few threads about battery problems, but has anybody experienced significant decreases in battery life after installing the 10.4.3 update? I installed it a few days ago and I'm noticing now that my battery life is much worse than it used to be.
For example, I was just watching a movie on my iBook. Before I started, my battery was FULLY charged, and Energy Saver was set for "Better Battery Life". I had airport turned off and left the screen brightness at default.
My battery died within 40 MINUTES! I had the sound turned up a little bit but I don't think that would drain enough power to reduce my batter life to 40 minutes when set for "better battery life"....
My battery's less than 2 years old.
Anyone else had similar problems since last OS update?

I just found a useful util called CoconutBattery 1.3 available from :
    http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/index.html
Running the app - gives me this info on my battery's state:
    current & max capacity: 828mAh
    Orginial Capacity: 4400mAh
    Battery load cycles: 461
The battery according to this app shows that at max charge it only has 18% of its orginial capacity.

  • Problems since 10.4.4 update...

I've got a problem since i've updated Tiger to 10.4.4. Usually I leave the computer with the screen sleeping. When I try to awake it, the computer only shows the screen into a black shadow.
The first time I've seen that I restarted the computer and all has runned OK, but the last time (this monrning) it didn't respond to the restarts and I did have to reset the PRAM.
Is anybody having the same problems?
iMac G4 700   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Airport, DBT-120, Wireless Mouse, 1 gb RAM, 160 gbs HDD, Superdrive.

I've repaired permissions and the hard disk with the Tiger install DVD. If this happens again I will try reinstalling Tiger. The trouble seems to be done from software, not a hardware failure.
    Thanks people.

  • Wireless network weirdness, since 10.5.6 update

    Hi Guys,
Can someone please help, I have a Belkin N1 Vision wireless router and everything WAS running fine on it.
But since I updated my MacMini system to 10.5.6 it doesn't appear correctly in the DHCP Client List on the router. The IP Address appears fine (192.168.2.2), but the other info doesn't (Host Name= Unknown, Mac Address= 00:00:00:00:00:00).
I have checked the Network Pref Pane & Network Utility and all the correct info appears, just not on the router (sometimes it just doesn't appear in the list, but internet works fine).
I should point out the all other devices on the network (Laptop PC, Xbox360, HP wireless printer), anyone have ideas what the problem may be?

    Thanks for your reply.
The routers firmware is all up-to-date, it all displayed in the client list fine until I applied the 10.5.6 update (via SU).

  • Internet application problems since 10.5.6 update (probably DNS related)

After applying the 10.5.6 update (Combo) I have found that a number of internet apps, e.g. Safari, Apple Mail (with HTML messages), NetNewsWire or Twitterrific work much slower than before.
Safari needs a long time to load web pages, images in HTML mails or NNW posts load 10 to 15 seconds after the text and so on.
These problems seem to be DNS related somehow, since manually adding the OpenDNS IP addresses to my networking settings resulted in at least partial improvements.
I am by far not the only one experiencing this, judging by this thread at a popular German Mac weblog: http://www.fscklog.com/2008/12/ladehemmungen-mit-mac-os-x-1056.html (in German, unfortunately).
I hope that someone comes up with a proper solution -- or that Apple is going to fix it as soon as possible...
BTW: I have neither a WebKit nightly or a Safari 4 developer release on my machine.

I also have this problem. At first I was blaming my ISP but a quick boot to Windows XP via Bootcamp showed otherwise. Everything was fine and fast with XP but not so with OSX. I tried to recall when I started having this problem and sure enough it was after I updated to 10.5.6. Only my internet access via HSDPA USB modem (Huawei E220) is affected. Everything - webpages, email, downloads - starts to loads after a 10-30sec delay. Data from Airport and Ethernet is fine though. DNS cache flushing and using public DNS doesn't help either. I think going back to 10.5.5 is my only choice.
I'm a PC/Windows user for 2 decades and a Mac user for just a month now. I guess trying to escape the constant OS debugging and reinstalling won't be happening for me any time soon.
The biggest thing you can do is change your debugging mindset to realize that Windows "working" in no way exonerates your ISP.
Too many ISPs, hardware manfacturers and software vendors adopt an "If it works with Windows, ship it!" mentality rather than programming to the appropriate Internet standards.
The best thing to try to resolve this issue is using OpenDNS' DNS servers; if that resolves the problem it is your ISP's DNS servers that are at fault.

  • Mail SMTP access problems since 10.5.2 update

Since the 10.5.2 update I get an intermittent problem when Mail cannot access my SMTP server (ISP is Be in the UK). I began by complaining to Be. They tell me the problem has only existed since the 10.5.2 update. Their reply to my complaint says: This problem is caused by the recent software update made by Mac and their official statement is as follows "Addresses an issue in which Mail might not send mail on some networks to some SMTP servers."
Anyone got any ideas about this?

    Hi lynjon
Join the club am affraid! I too am with Be and have the same issue. However standard email goes fine it is email with attachments that seems to be the real problem. There are a number of posts on here regarding the issue. I thought be were just passing the buck but it would appear that they are not.

  • Mouse Problems Since 10.6.8 Update

Since I applied the OS X 10.6.8 update to my MacBook, I have started to have very annoying mouse problems.  Sometimes the mouse gets stuck on a window or icon as if I am dragging it.  More often, the left mouse button stops doing anything and the right mouse button starts acting like the left mouse button.  At the same time, the mouse is often incapable of clicking on a highlighted button.  Safari often seems to be open when this happens.
I have tried two different wireless mice and, most recently, a basic corded mouse.  I have also tried both USB ports with the corded mouse.
Has anyone else seen this and figured out how to fix the problem?

Same problem here with a macbook pro.  I desactivate teleport to see if the problem is related.

  • Big Problems since 10.6.5 update!

Updated the other night on my imac 24" since then it has been freezing. I restarted my mac and I can move my mouse but not one application I click on
opens..I mean nothing. I have tried rebooting with the start up disc still the same problem. I hope someone can help me I searched and searched this website and didn't see anything close to my problem.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
    Karen

Open Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities), highlight your internal drive, and click on "repair permissions". You should do this after every software update. You may see some cryptic messages; as long as it says "permissions repair complete" at the end, no need to worry about them (everyone has been getting some after a Java update).
Also, if it should ever become necessary, you can also verify your disk. If that results in a "needs repair" message, you can't do that while booted up from the internal. You can do it while booted up from your install disk.

  • A bit of a problem since the 4.0 update...

I updated my iPhone with the new 4.0 version of the software yesterday and since then, I can't play any music in my car. I have a USB port on my car radio and I've always used it to play music from my phone in my car, but since I got the new software version, when I plug it, it's like if I was always taking the cable in and out and makes the sound of an iPhone charging every 4 or 5 seconds.
I know for sure that my radio is not the problem, because I tried it with my mother's iPod Touch and my own cable, and it worked fine. I also tried my iPhone in my mother's car, and it doesn't work either. So I know for sure the phone has a problem and I'm pretty sure it's related to the new software update.
I tried restoring the iPhone completely but as soon as I plug it on the computer, I don't even have to touch anything and it already comes with the 4.0 installed on it. Like automatically. Is there any way to come back to the 3.1.3, which I had before?
I'm really disappointed by Apple now. I thought updates were made for upgrading something, not making **** of it.

  • Problems since 10.4.11 update

    Hi,
I have installed the latest software update..OSX10.4.11
    Since then big problems:
Everytime I try to remove / eject a usb key /memory card, (I'm a photographer so need to do this daily) etc the finder chrashes.
I can not install any new applications as suddenly I do not have access privileges..although I am only user and have not changed any of these details.
Some other applications tending to stall also..photomechanic etc.
I have reinstalled update but still the same.
When I installed th update I did not archive /install.
Anyone else having problems with this software update?
    Any solutions?
    Thanks.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
