Network Question: How Do I See the Macs from the PC?

I'm a PC-to-Mac switcher. I'm trying to move all my activites to the Mac platform, so at the moment I'm sort've one foot in each world.
One problem I have encountered is transferring files from the PC to the Macs over my network.
When I'm on the Mac, I can find the Windows MSHome Network fine, and can grab files that way. But sometimes I'm on the PC, and want to send files to the Mac. But I can't seem to find the Mac on the network from the PC.
Is there someway to do that?
Oh, and, why does the Mac create all these files with a dot in front of the filename. That I could do without... especially when they're just ".trashes"

On the Macs, Ststem Preferences>Sharing>Services tab, enable Windows Sharing!

We do have a few silly things... can't be perfect!
One kind of those dot files, (hidden on Macs), that you can stop...
To configure a Mac OS X user account so that .DS_Store files are not created when interacting with a remote file server using the Finder, follow the steps below.
Note: This will affect the user's interactions with SMB/CIFS, AFP, NFS, and WebDAV servers.
1 Open the Terminal.
2 Type:
defaults write com.apple.desktopservices DSDontWriteNetworkStores true
3 Press Return.
4 Restart the computer.

Hi, I did manage to ping each computer (the mac from the pc and viceversa), also I did manage to "see" the mac from the pc windows network application; but I still have two issues:
1) I still can't "see" the PC from my Mac, under share of finder....
2) How can I do to access the mac from the pc? It keeps asking me for a user and password, should I use my user and password that I use in my mac? How can I add the pc user into my mac setting if I can't "see" the pc?

If I have them both at home, how can I see one Mac´s hard drive from another?

Do you have a home network?
Personal File Sharing: You can connect Macs on a local network with Tiger’s Personal File Sharing, which allows you to mount folders from the sharing Mac on the master Mac—note that the slave Macs do the sharing; the master Mac doesn’t have to. To turn on Personal File Sharing on the slave Mac, do this:
Open System Preferences.
In the System Preferences window, click Sharing.
In the Sharing pane, click Services.
In the Select a Service to Change Its Settings list, select the Personal File Sharing checkbox.
Now that the slave Mac has sharing turned on, you can mount it on the master Mac’s Desktop:
In the Finder, choose Go -> Network.
In the Network window, select the sharing Mac.
Click Connect.
In the Connect to Server window, click Registered User, enter the user account name and password for the sharing Mac, and then click Connect.
In the window that appears, select the volume that contains the folder you want to sync with, and then click OK.

I bougth the cable in the macstore to conect my macbookpro to the tv (LED).
but i only see the empty screen backround of my mac.
it's like the the backround screem with zoom i think.

You have an extended desktop, which means that what you see on the TV is a continuation of the screen on your MacBook, i.e. if you move your mouse off the end of your MacBooks screen it will appear on the TV screen. Furthermore, if you resize a window beyond the edge of the MacBook's screen it will start to appear on the TV screen.
The MacBook screen is currently set to be the primary screen. To make the TV the primary screen go into System Preferences -> Displays. You will see an image of two screens. Drag the little bar at the top of the smaller screen to the top of the larger screen.
You can set it so that you see the same image on both screens if you click mirroring on. However, the external display will be at the same resolution as the internal display and you won't be making full use of the maximum resolution available on the TV.

I don't know why but i can't see and use the app prochesed in my iphone 5 ios7 and in ipad ios7 in my Macbook air i have done the usual things ( sig in apple store and i tunes with my apple ID but I have an air with films pictures but not with the app )

Because Macs run on the Mac OS X. Your iPhone is iOS. Two different operating systems.
Apps that run on a Mac cannot run on an iOS based device and vice versa.
Check the Mac App Store for image editing software.
Try iPhoto and iMovie.

You can do it manually, but it is much simpler if you use a tool such as Back To My Mac, LogMeIn, or something like that. Those programs enable you to connect to your computer through your router without you having to adjust the router settings manually.

I have several entries (too many) on calendars created prior to iCloud. They are listed as calendars 'On My Mac'. How can I get this information to my phone? I understand that iCloud makes On My Mac calendars obsolete?

But my regular process when I'm sitting in front of the computer is to add them via iCal using the On My Mac calendars created years ago, over time. I need to see this information while on the go. Welcome to the Apple Community.
Create a new empty calendar from the iCal file menu, select which account you want to create it in.
If you have only a few appointments you can move them individually by editing them and changing the calendar in the edit options.
Alternatively you can copy all the appointments in one calendar to another and delete the original.
To copy a calendar ctrl-click on it from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button (top left corner of iCal) and choose export (export it to your desktop for ease)
Double click the exported file and choose the new empty calendar to import them into.
Ctrl-click on the original calendar from the menu that appears when you select the calendar button and choose delete.

Bob thanks, but that didn't solve my problem, I went to question 17 and went into the Browse my Time Machine and it also didn't find or recognize the other Mac. I know it's in there because when I open the other Mac and Enter the Time Machine, I can see it through that Mac, and I have the same problem there, where I can't see my Mac.
In short, when I back up a Mac (doesn't matter which one) I can verify its backup as long as I use that Mac, but I cannont verfiy the backup on that Mac using another Mac and vice versa.
Also, I never used to have to do anything to see both on the same Mac. So I don't know what changed.
There must be another way.

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

you are probably seeing the extended display.. to see ur main display go to pefrences then display steeings and turn mirroring on.

How do I effectively join the Macs to the AD?

Hi. First, I must qualify that I am NOT a network individual. Some of the research I've done, I've managed to follow, but I don't have the technical know-how to fully understand it all. I desparately need help, please.
I work in a medium-sized environment, about 50 PCs and we employ Windows Server 2003. I've been charged with making 10 or so Macs work in Active Directory. Our Mac users constantly run into expiring netword passwords every 30 days (extending this is not an option because of the nature of the work).
How do I effectively join the Macs to the AD and allow changes to network passwords from the Mac? So far, for every Mac users, I've used SMB to connect to server files/folders. But when the users' password expires, they are 1) not notified that their passwords are expiring and 2) are not able to change their passwords from their Macs when their passwords expires. I've tried binding my Mac to the AD and used a free software called ADMon to monitor my own expiring network password. And that's proving useless because it's monitoring the local password for the Mac instead of the network password.
Mac users are mostly on OS Lion, one Mac user on Snow Leopard.
I would really appreciate any help/advice you can provide.

AD is still broken with Lion as at 10.7.2. May want to read this thread to try the workarounds, mainly Page 5, while Apple sort it out.

Thank you for responding to my problem so promptly. Frankly, I did not expect to hear from people so soon! The fact is that as soon as I posted the question, I was shown a number of similar queries and managed to find the answer. I have to say it's not intuitive! I have an apple TV original version. Apparently I had the ATV on streaming and not syncing. Streaming does not allow you to stream a rental from your computer whereas you can sync and transfer the rental from the computer!

"Sharing" the way Mac OS X uses it means giving permission for others to use something. Once Sharing something is enabled, you just use the thing that has been Shared.
To access your Mac at work from the Internet would require changing the configuartion of the Router at work to allow port-forwarding.

Can not print from my pc using time capsule's printer, but the mac in the office will. PC sees the network just not the printer connected to the capsule.

I can't get my pc to see the printer connected to the time capsule, it sees and connect to the network but will not see the printer. The mac in the office see both the network and the printer connected to the capsule.

Suggest that you check to make sure that you installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC.
Run the program and hopefully it will find your printer so you can select it and click to get things going.
