Network routers clashing? BEFW11S4 and WRT54GS

I have a small network. I have a splitter followed by a router (IP Address 192.168.1.1) and branching of in to several separate sub networks.
In one of these sub networks I have a problem; at times it refuses to connect to the Internet.
The set-up is as follows. From the 192.168.1.1 I have a direct connection to a WRT54GS that has the wireless function switched on. This connects to a BEFW11S4 that has the wireless function switched off, my computer is connected to the BEFW11S4.
I use fixed IP for everything in my network.
The BEFW11S4 is new n the network as the previous switch died and was replaced with eh BEFW11S4. The problem exists since this replacement took place.
I have checked the following:
• Do all machines on the network have different IP addresses? Yes.
• In the same range (like 192.168.1.x)? Yes.
• All subnet masks the same? Yes.
• Both the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS have the latest firmware installed.
Tests I have done.
• Connecting direct to the 192.168.1.1with all other sub networks disconnected. No problems.
• Connecting direct to the 192.168.1.1 with all other sub networks connected. No problems.
• Disconnect all other sub networks except mine. The problem remained. Thus pointing at my end of the network.
• Connecting to the 192.168.1.1 bypassing the BEFW11S4. No problems. Thus pointing at the BEFW11S4 as the source (and it is also the new component in the equation).
• Connecting to the 192.168.1.1 using the BEFW11S4, directly connected to the 192.168.1.1. No problems. Thus pointing at a clash between the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS.
When the problem occurs in the normal setup as described above, it will refuse access to the Internet. I cannot ping 192.168.1.1 at this point. I can ping the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS. If I keep pinging them (the BEFW11S4 and the WRT54GS) for a while, I will eventually get back in to the Internet.
If I disconnect my computer from the network by removing the cable it sometimes helps but at other times not.
My question? Any suggestions as to what it could be?
MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks Rick, here some answers
1) What's the local IP address of the WRT?
192.168.1.110
2) What's the local IP address of the BEFW?
192.168.1.100
3)What's a 'splitter'?
Device that split signal between voice and data
4) You say sub nets. Do you truly have more
than one subnet?
(This might look like some machines 192.168.1.x, and
some 10.1.0.x, or 192.168.0.x...?)
Or do you really just mean different
areas/rooms/floors connected by ethernet switches?
Different areas on different floors al connected to 192.168.1.1 via one hub or switch. Some floors have two switches like on the one I talk about here and they are cascaded. Meaning 192.168.1.1 port 4 connects to 192.168.1.110 port I, which connects to 192.168.1.100
From the splitter, into the first router, your
ethernet should be going into the WAN/Internet port
of that first router.
Correct. It is all working (and was) till I added the WRT54GS
After that, connections to other 'routers' should be
in a port 1,2,3 or 4.
Correct
Can you get to the control panel of the BEFW (you
would have configured it to have a static IP for
managing it) and confirm without question
that DHCP is turned off on that machine,
Is off
and that
it does NOT have the same IP address as the WRT or
any other computers on the LAN.
Correct all numbers unique as mentioned
If you're confused by what settings have been
made on the BEFW, leave it powered up, push the reset
button for 5-7 seconds. Disconnect it from the LAN.
Then connect to it with one of your machines via
ethernet cable into port 2. Change this now connected
mac to get IP address from BEFW. Configure the BEFW:
set a static IP. (different than others, duh.)
192.168.1.55?
Correct
Disable DHCP ability.
Is off
➢ Reset your mac to have static IP that it had before
It has same IP

  • Adding Vista Ultimate Computer to BEFW11S4 network with Windows ME and XP??

Is it possible to add a Vista Ultimate computer to a wireless network using a BEFW11S4 Version 4 running firmware version 1.50.14?
My existing network consists of a Dell desktop on Win/ME which connects wired to the router and 2 laptops on Windows XP. I previously had problems with the newer firmware version, so I downgraded. Otherwise, everything works fine.
I just got a new HP computer with Vista Ultimate. The BEFW11S4 does not show as being supported for Vista. I am confused reading other posts, will I be able to connect the new computer or not?
If not, what Router can I get that will work with all 3 operating systems?
Also, what do I need to add a wireless connection to the Dell (on Win/ME) that will work with the old (or new) router?

any of the wireless- g routers would work with the OS you have ..

  • Airport and WRT54G (LINKSYS)

Does any use the Linksys WRT54G with thier Mac? I bought one knowing it wasn't Mac compatable because I was just going to use it to play my Xbox wireless, but wanted to get airport down the road. I have an iBook and just wanted to know if anyone used it or if they had any problems. Thanks.

    Hey Guys,
Just wanted to update you on this process. After tooling around with some 3rd party firmware, some de-bricking techniques (mainly due to me not reading instructions!), and a bit-o-patience...I have my AX sucessfully working with my WRT54G, and the AX is working as my "wireless adapter" for the xbox!
As Henry said, it would be MUCH simpler to purchase a wireless game adapter...and use apple approved base stations (go figure!), but it can be done if you have some time and patience.
I really considered myself fairly dumb on how wireless/routers/etc interacted, and this whole experience boosted me into mild-network-guru status, "mild" being the key word.

  • Need help BEFW11S4 to WRT54G V8 switch

I started out my home wireless network with a BEFW11S4 "B" router. I have 3 computers, all run windows XP. 2 towers hardwired and one laptop wireless. I set-up a file and printer sharing network and everything worked fine between the 3 computers. I then upgraded to a WRT54G V8 "G" router to accommodate my kids newer laptops when they come to visit and need to go online. The problem is when I put the WRT54G router on I lost my file and printer sharing with my main 3 computers. I can't help but feel the problem is a setting of some sort in the WRT54G, as I can swap out to the "B" router and the network works again. I tried calling your phone tech support and they referred me to fix ID 5560, and if that didn't work to call Microsoft it was their problem. ID 5560 is the exact same process I used to set-up the network in the first place. I do have the DCHP Server enabled. When I try to access the network through the WRT54G router I get the message "MSHOME IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO USE THIS NETWORK RESOURCE. CONTACT THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THIS SERVER TO FIND OUT IF YOU HAVE ACCESS PERMISSIONS. "THE LIST OF SERVERS FOR THIS WORKGROUP IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE" I have tried changing the name of the network and it didn't make a difference. I still get the same message just with the different network name. I should not have to swap out the WRT54G router and install the BEFW11S4 router every time I want to use file and print share. I don't believe it's a Microsoft problem either, as like I stated, I can switch to the "B" router and everything works fine again. The only difference between, file and printer sharing, working and not working is the WRT54G router. Can you help?

So what happens if you turn off the firewall or better uninstall it?
Your personal Norton "firewall" is supposed to block all access to the computer if it is connected to a different network. The firewall finds the different network and different router and locks everything down. If it wouldn't do this the firewall would be even more useless. You would connect to a public hotspot which happens to use the same IP addresses 192.168.1.* as your home LAN and...
Uninstall Norton on all computers. Then try again with no firewalls running. See if it makes a difference. Simply turning "off" the firewall is often not enough.

  • AM300 and WRT54G

i have a linksys AM300 modem and a linksys WRT54G router Internet is connected to the PC via the router. Currently the DHCP is disabled in the modem and enabled at the router.  the user name and password is typed into the routers web config and the internet connection is working perfectly. I have only one PC connected to port 1 of the router and able to access the router at ip 192.168.1.1 but i unable to access the modem utility from the PC. The router and the modem have the same default IP address but since they are in two different segments I thought there wont be any problems. Could you please tell me in DETAIL how I can set the IP addresses, DHCP settings etc of the router and the modem .... so that ill be able to access the modems config utility in the setup.  Should all DHCP be enabled in both router and modem....? and please note  that I am able to access the modem connected straight to the PC without the router..........but when wired in series only the router can be accessed. Pls help me....

For some list of cons see this post. Some of those points do not apply if you don't connect any computers directly to the routing modem.
    I add/repeat some points here:
    * Two hops are slower. Each router needs time to do the router. It may also limit the bandwidth.
    * Two hops are more difficult to manage. You'll have to manage two devices for internet instead of one.
    * Port forwarding is a mess. You have to do the forwarding on two routers.
    * Remote management gets more difficult if needed.
    * For any internet related services you have to figure out on which device you have to configure it, e.g. DDNS must be configured on the routing modem. The function on the inner router does not work for you.
    * Programs (e.g. some games) which use UPnP to open ports fail, because they can only open ports on the inner router not on the outer one.
    * Regarding security due to 2 NATs: NAT is an attempt to map a single IP address to multiple private ones. It is in the nature of this mapping that it is incomplete and not without flaws. Running two of those NATs behind each other adds to this flaws and does not make it better (just like two firewalls on a computer is worse then a single one because both will interfere somehow). First, the NAT on the outer one is pretty useless. It just maps one IP address to another (the IP address of the inner router). NAT implementations vary. Some use different timeouts. Strange things can happen with two NATs. E.g. suppose the outer router expires open ports for replies after 2 minutes while the inner one does it after 1 minute. You'll send something out. The response port is open for two minutes on the outer router. After one minute the inner router closes this port. But within the next minute some new completely unrelated transmission may open up this port on the inner router again. Now you get a response on the still open port on the outer router which forwards it to the port on the inner router which is now associated differently. It may be hard to exploit something like this but it may well disrupt your communications.
Check the manual of the modem to find out about the meaning of the LEDs. Generally, anything which is connected to the internet gets scanned frequently my some internet worm, malware, etc. That is just the standard background "noise" in the internet.
A computer can have as many IP addresses that it wants. It can also have several gateways which connect it to the internet. If you don't change the metric values in the IP protocol settings Windows tries to choose the fastest connection. It decides this based on the port speed. Thus if you connect to the internet through a 56 Kbit/s modem and through a 100 Mbit/s ethernet port it will prefer the ethernet port, regardless of the actual speed you have on the ethernet port (e.g. DSL with 5 Mbit/s).
You can manually adjust this by setting the metric values in the IP protocol settings. A lower value means less cost on this connection and thus is prefered. But in general, you won't have to change anything there. The automatic mechanism should work well in most home networks...

  • Network cable unplugged problem with WRT54G

I just got a WRT54G wireless router recently, and experienced some problems with it. There are 5 notebooks in my network using wireless card and 2 PCs connect to the router through cables. The router is with ver 7.00.1 firmware.
The router is working fine, the problem is sometimes it will show "Network cable unplugged" on my PC, and the whole network will be interruptted, the network will be resumed in few seconds and all machines need to get IP from the DHCP server again. It's quite annoying to be disconnected from middle of the work. I don't know what is the cause, seems like the router is re-reading it's configuration. I have tried to refresh the fireware but with no luck. Someone else got this problem before? anyone has a solution for this? Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Leo

Try the following tips to resolve your problem:
Disable the Ethernet network adapter if you are not using it. This applies, for example, when running a WiFi home network with computers that have built-in Ethernet adapters. To disable the adapter, double-click the small Network Cable Unplugged error window and choose the Disable option.
Check both ends of the Ethernet cable connected to the adapter to ensure they are not loose.
Replace the Ethernet cable with a different one to verify the cable is not damaged.
Update the network adapter driver software from the manufacturer's Web site.
Change the Link Speed and Duplex settings (using Device Manager) to use "100 Mbps Full Duplex" or "10 Mbps Full Duplex" instead of Auto Detect.
    Replace the Ethernet network adapter
    Good Luck,

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • How to properly configure a home network using both Mac and PC computers

Is there a book or set of guidelines that can tell me how to properly configure (exact specifications) my computers in a home network? Here is what I am trying to do and using:
    1) Three computers: iMac (late 06 ver), Macbook (newest version), Dell laptop. The two Macs are using Leopard and the PC is XP.
    2) Bellsouth modem which feeds into the Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
    3) The AEBS has a USB hub which is connected to a external hard drive and two inkjet printers. A third laser printer/scanner/fax machine is connected to the AEBS via ethernet.
    4) All three computers use a wireless connection to the AEBS.
    I would like the following:
    1) Have a secured and password driven network - don't want outsiders connecting to the nework without permission.
    2) All computers to be able to access the USB printers and ext HD.
    3) The two Macs to read/write to each other with password access
    4) The iMac to have read/write capabalities over the PC via VSFusion or Bootcamp if possible.
Currently, all three have Internet access via the AEBS and can print on the ethernet printer. Both Macs can see the Bonjour USB printers and print (however they to do not display on the AEBS configuration display utility and neither does the ext HD). The USB ext HD is shown on the iMac desktop and I have access to it, but does not display on the MacBook. I have not checked if the PC sees the external HD and it really does not matter if it ever does, although it would be nice.
I am hoping that there is some standard configuration that I can "cut and paste" that is generally used to allow a home network to share resources while still being secure.
Any advice and help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Andrew,
What you would like is fairly complicated so this will probably be a lengthy post, but hopefully I can assist you.
As others here have pointed out, networks can vary widely, but the best networks have one element in common: planning. The first thing you need to think about is how you would like all of these systems to cooperate. For instance, do you want one of the machines to serve files to the others and be a central repository, or are you just interested in having them share documents on occasion so that you don't have to carry around, say, a USB key all the time? That said, here is a basic list of things I think you should look into.
    1. Network Basics
First step is to get your local network set up. I'd go for WPA or WPA2 wireless security as they are relatively strong standards and you can use human-readable passwords. Additionally, unless you have an explicit need for someone outside your network to initialize a connection (Windows' RDP for instance), do not allow any passthroughs or port redirects on your AEBS.
    2. Network Topology
Decide how you want computers and networked devices to identify themselves and their relative locations in the network: in short, do you want static ip's or dynamic ip's? Most of the time, static IP's can be assigned on a DHCP router, the trick is to assign the statics higher than your number of devices (or lower on some routers - for instance Linksys routers start DHCP at 192.168.1.100 but you could have statics from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.99). For instance, it is impractical to set a laptop to static because I'm often in coffee shoppes and other environments that assign via DHCP; on the other hand, it's a good idea to have a printer be static so that you always know where to find it. So, I have 10.0.1.x network (default on AEBS), and the printer is 10.0.1.24, since the likelihood of my encountering an IP conflict with 4 computers on the subnet is virtually zero. If you configure a static device behind your AEBS, defaults are usually
    Default Gateway 10.0.1.1
    IP Address 10.0.1.(your choice)
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    3. File-sharing.
3a) Mac OS X has a built-in SMB/CIFS (Windows file & printer sharing protocol) client, and a basic SMB [samba] server can be enabled in the sharing preference panel (enable file and/or printer sharing). Windows XP can use these shares, but must authenticate. For that reason, you may not be able to see your shares in the Network Places browser, however you should be able to get to them by mapping the network drive (tools menu) or executing RUN with \\computer.name\share.name. You will then be able to type in your credentials. I would also suggest relatively simple names for the Macs in question (set in Sharing preference pane). Typing Andrew's-iMac-G4 in every time you want to find it will get irritating after a while to say the least, especially if you need to troubleshoot.
3b) The reverse works similarly. You can Connect to Server... from Finder to get to the Windows shares. To do this you must have Windows File and Printer sharing enabled (most easily through the Network Setup Wizard in Control Panels - Use Classic View). It's really easy if your account names and passwords are identical on the Mac and PC, because when loading user profiles, the Mac will generally automatically try to authenticate against the Windows machine with your Mac logon credentials. (Windows seems to do this against the Mac as well) You can write an Applescript or there are some PLIST modifications you can make to mount Windows shares at login.
    4. Printing
I'm not exactly sure what you had in mind here since I'm not sure what's connected to which computer or directly to the network. If it is possible, I personally find putting my printers directly on the network to be the easiest thing. Especially if printing large PDF or graphics files, the spooling on the host system can really slow the computer down, and slow down printing. For example, I used to have a laserjet on a Windows box and had to print a very large file. Going through a Win print server, it only printed a page every 30 seconds, but when I got a jetdirect adapter, the whole thing was done in under two minutes. If you have HP Printers, I would recommend the jetdirect print servers (I have used with both a laserjet and a supposedly unsupported color inkjet).

  • Question about network statement in OSPF and BGP

The network statements in OSPF and BGP can be used to advertise networks. But I'm not clear under what circumstances would make more sense to use network statements to advertise a network than by using other methods to have the network learned by other routers.
Here is an example: assume I'm running BGP on router A. I want to advertise network 10.1.1.0/24 to other BGP peers. I have a OSPF route for this network. I can do 2 things: one is to use "network 10.1.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0", the other is to do "redistribute OSPF ... route-map OSPF-INTO-BGP", and create a prefix list to permit 10.1.1.0/24.
Both would work to have this network learned by other BGP peers. But which is better for what purpose?
    Thanks a lot
    Gary

    Hi Gary,
There is one little difference between the use of the two approaches - the route injected into BGP by using a network statement will carry an Origin attribute of IGP, whereas the route injected using redistribution will have an Origin attribute of Incomplete. Now, that is not a huge issue since you can always change that whatever value you desire both with the use of the network statement and redistribution. The important thing, however, is that in the BGP best path selection process, the Origin attribute comparison is fairly high up and will prefer a route with the attribute of IGP.
Apart from that, there is absolutely no difference between using the network statement and using redistribution with a route-map that matches exactly on the same route that you would have specified with the network statement.
I guess one advantage of using the redistribute approach is that it does not clutter up the BGP config. If you wish to add more routes, you simply add them to the prefix list so that you don't really touch the BGP config portion at all..
Hope that helps - pls do remember to rate posts that help.

  • WMP54GS and WRT54GS = dropped connections

I have had the WMP54GS and WRT54GS setup for around 2 years now. I have version 2 of the router, and everything has been fine up until a couple weeks ago. Lately I have been getting randomly dropped from the router. I already have the latest firmware for the router, and have tried changing the channel, and the operating mode to G only, but nothing helps. Sometimes drops occur ever few minutes, sometimes they are so constant that I cant even connect at all. I will refresh my network list and the network will not show up for a few seconds, and then it will, so I will try and connect and it will say Unable to connect.
Sometimes when I refresh the network list and it will show my network like 4 times... like this
    SSID
    SSID 1
    SSID 2
    SSID 3
I have SSID broadcast off if that makes any difference...
I have no idea what is going on, is this a problem with the router or the network card? What should I do? thanksMessage Edited by jls1986 on 05-03-200709:38 AM

First of all, give your network a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router.  Also, do not use your old SSID.   Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
After you have completed the above stuff, then go into your computer, to your "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ) and delete all networks named "linksys", also delete all entries with your old SSID.  While you are there, delete any network that you don't recognize, or that you no longer use.  Add your new network with your new SSID, encryption method (if any), and key (if any).  Reboot your modem, router, and computer.  Then try to connect to your new network.  Once you have connected, return to "Preferred networks" and set your computer to connect to your new SSID automatically.  If you have an option that says, "Connect to any available network", turn it off.
If you are running any peer-to-peer (P2P) software (BitTorrent, Ares, etc.), this is known to cause disconnection problems.  Go into the P2P software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • Airtunes not working with AE and WRT54G Router

    Hey all,
I have been trying to get my Airport Express to see my WRT54G router for 2 days now. And each time after I have done mulitple reset on both units and disconnected the LAN line from the AX, I still can't get iTunes to see my Airtunes network.
I have a WRT54G v.2 wireless router. I have gotten the newiest firmware from Linksys and when I got the update, my setting for the router has changed to a WRT54GL router under my settings from the router webpage. I am thinking this maybe the problem, but don't think Linksys would make a mistake with this fireware update. So, i checked multiple times to make sure I got the latest correct update and did so.
Then, I followed the main setup to get the router to see the AX. I am using WEP Key and all, but still have no success. Weird thing is, I have had the AE for a long time and remember last year I threw a New Years party and had it configured correctly to see both my G4 Laptop and G5 Desktop. Now that I have sold my laptop I wanted to use my G5 to send music to the Linksys router to then connect to the Airport Express block. And now it won't see the router when the ethernet cable is disconnected from the AX.
Anyone have any ideas? I really appreciate it.

    hi again,
something appears to prevent your ae to join you LinkSys LAN. And you shouldn't have to enter any IP adress.
From now, you should use the AirPort Admin utility located in the utility folder. This utility will allow you to get into all the ae parameters.
I'm not able to gives you a walkthrough from here but if you linksys have DHCP option activated, your ae should join it by simply giving it the rigth password. Besides, if you have latest firmwire, I do not think you need to add any $ to your password.
Does your router have any other security enable like specific MAC adress?

I have the 1st generation iPad.  All of a sudden it will not connect to my wi-fi.  It finds my wi-fi, but will not totally connect.  I have done everything...reset network, rebooted router etc and it still will not connect.  My other divices are connected....iPhone and 3 Macs.  Any suggestions?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • How can I extend my wireless network using Airport Express and an Airport Extreme on BT Infinity?

I have BT Infinity and I am using the Time Capsule with Airport Extreme as my router. Working well (even on wireless). I want to extend the wireless network with an Airport Express, but I cannot work out the settings necessary in Airport Utility. I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro. Please help!

    BT,
I've read several of your posts, thanks for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge.
I'm in a situation similar to the one described by 'scoutusmaximus'.  Seeking the flexibility of a standalone router, I finally upgraded my 4-yr old ATT DSL gateway (modem+router) to a Comcast standalone modem + the ASUS RT-AC66U: http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTAC66U/
Typically, I stick with all things Apple but the ASUS router seemed fairly superior to the current-gen base station (on paper, anyway; time will tell when it comes to performance) so, for once, I jumped ship.  My plan was to extend the ASUS wired/wireless network using my TimeCapsule and 2 Airport Expresses in bridge mode, however, a google search turned up several unhappy customers that claim those devices don't play well with non-Apple routers, especially when it comes to 'extending' a network.
    Questions:
    1. Can I successfully extend the wired/wireless network created by the ASUS router using the 3 airport devices listed above w/out negatively impacting performance?  I'd rather have 1 wireless network as opposed to creating a new wireless network with the TC and then extending it with the AP Expresses... though I'd consider that option down the line if it came to that.
    2. Will the LAN ports on the TimeCapsule remain functional?
Btw, my house is wired so, I can reach all 3 devices via ethernet cable coming off of a central, managed switch.  Supposedly, you only lose the LAN ports on the TC if you extend wirelessly.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
