Network security key

I currently had Fios internet connection, trying to set up the wire connection and I am having problems.
Any time I put in the security password, a message come Network security key mismatch.
I have the log in password printed on the router, with the Essid, Wpas key etc.
Am I using the wrong keys or need to reset the wireless router?

What security type is the FiOS Router showing? WEP is the default for anything up to the Rev. F , and all Westell routers. The Rev G and I ActionTecs should be on WPA2.
Make sure you're entering in WEP keys in All Caps, and if it's a WPA2 or WPA Key that you enter it in case sensitive.

  • How to locate my network security key

I wrote this same request a month or so ago and can no longer locate my 'saved' message.  Would someone please forward me the link again on how to locate the network security key so I may add another computer to my wi-fi.
And another question, will there be any change that more than one security key will appear and if so, how will I determine which key is the proper key to use?
    Thank you much.

The "key" is another word for your normal wireless network "password", sometimes called a "pass phrase".
The password generates a 64 character code of random letters and numbers. I doubt that this would be of any use to you, but if you want to see it.....
Open AirPort Utility on your Mavericks Mac
Click the AirPort icon, the click Edit
Click the Base Station icon at the top of the screen
    Click Show Passwords
More likely, you have a Windows Firewall issue, or Microsoft Security Essentials...if installed....is blocking the connection.  The anti-virus program can do the same thing.

  • Need my wireless network security key

I got a laptop and a kindall.  Wanted to connect them to my wireless network.  A screen asks for the wireless network security key.  I have no idea what that is.  Went to home computer and tried to copy the key, but I ended up deleting it and now can't connect to my wi-fi on that either.  I  attempted to restore computer to earlier date in hopes I could get back the code that was set up and when that didn't work, I set the router to default mode by using a pen to hold in button in back 10 to 15 seconds.  Nothing has work, and I have no internet connection.  I had to use my computer at work to type this.  What can I do?

You must hard reset the router by pressing and holding the reset button in back for 30 seconds and release.  Wait 10 seconds and power cycle the router.  Connect via your browser with a wired computer to 192.168.1.1 username blank, password 'admin'.  Now configure the router back to your settings with your new SSID and password.  Once done change all your computers to  the same password.  Write the password down and tape it to the router.

  • How do you find wifi network security key?

How do you find the wifi network Security Key?  Not password --- KEY?

The "key" is probably totally useless to you, since it is 64 characters long and very few things will accept an item of this length.
If you have an Apple AirPort router, we can tell you how to find the "key" for the network that it is creating, if you can tell us what operating system your Mac is using.
Most manufacturers use the term "key" to mean the normal wireless network password, which is also known as passkey.

  • How to find my network security key

I recently installed Windows 7 on my MBP (OS Mavericks). I am trying to make a connection from Windows to my home network (Airport Extreme). When I do so, I'm asked for the "network security key." How do I find that? I've searched everywhere I know how, to no avail. My network works fine w/ my MBP running Mavericks. Can someone help me?

I am trying to find the network security key for my airport extreme so I can hook up my pc lap top.

I am afraid that the "key" will be of no use to you (it is 64 characters long).....but I hope I am wrong.
Since you indicate that you are using an iPad, I assume that you are also using AirPort Utility on the iPad.
On the iPad home screen, tap AirPort Utility
    Tap on the AirPort Extreme
    Tap on Edit
    Tap on Advanced
    Tap on Show Passwords
Tap on Main Network and "key" will be revealed

  • Finding the Network Security Key

I bought an HP laptop in August and I have a wireless router at my home. The problem is, when I stay at my father's house every other weekend, I need to access his wireless router in order to gain access to the internet to complete my school work. My older brother, who set up the router, refuses to tell me what the network security key is or where to find it. I need to know, so that I can access the internet to get work done. I haven't been able to find it by myself.

Unfortunately there will be no way to connect wirelessly to this network without having the access key.
But, you should be able to simply use a network cable to plug directly into the router.  Provided no other access restrictions are in place, no wireless key is needed to access the network.

  • Network security key resets every few hours

Hi all, I have had an 802.11b wireless router for a few years now, and over the past few months I have been getting kicked off the network every few hours and having to reset the router in order to get back on. I ran a diagnostic check and it is telling me that my security key is not correct, even when it is the same saved password that I was using that earlier let me on the network (as in, I only typed it once for both times). Is this a known error? Has this ever happened to anyone else? I am thinking I will just replace the equipment but I'm curious to see if anyone else has had such strange experience. This happens to me on either XP or Vista. Any advice or thoughts are appreciated.

    Hi,
First thing you should try is to update the firmware of the router. As your router is a bit older.
After this Check the security key by logging to routers setup and if it is not your security key, then you can change it.
To check security key, connect your computer to one of the four ports on router using ethernet cable.
    1.      Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name. Use your password if you have changed it earlier
    2.      Go to wireless tab.
    3.      Go to wireless security sub-tab
    4.      If security mode is wpa or wpa2 note down passphrase/shared key, if security mode is WEP note down wep key number 1. This will be your network key

  • I need help changing the security key for WRT54G2 1.5

I already know the security key on my network, I just need to change it.  I don't have 'cisco connect'. I've tried the web based method with the 192.168.1.1 IP and using 'admin' for the password, but that gives me a '401 Not Authorized' error.  I've tried using my own security key instead of 'admin' and that doesn't work either.   How do I change this.  I tried to use the Linsky's knowledgebase and that didn't help. Live Chat won't help unless I'm willing to sign-up for some paid service plan, and there is no way I'm doing that.  I've never heard of a company charging their customers just to explain how to do something. All I have is a simple question about how to change the network security key when I already know what it is and there is no problem with the connection. Can anyone help me.  PLEASE.

If admin didn’t work, it’s possible that you might have setup a different password to login to the setup of the router when you initially set it up. Since admin and your security key didn’t work when you tried accessing your router page, the other option for you then is to reset the router. Push and hold the reset button on the router using a pin or a paper clip for 30 seconds and unplug the power cord for another 30 seconds. Once the power light goes solid, you may start reconfiguring the settings of the router. For instructions, refer to these links: Setting up a Linksys router with Cable Internet service & Setting up a Linksys router for DSL Internet connection. Once you establish the wired internet connection, you may then start reconfiguring the wireless settings. Go to the Wireless tab: set the wireless configuration to manual; set a network name; then save the settings. Once saved, click on Wireless Security subtab:  set the security mode to WPA2 Personal and enter a new security key on the passphrase bar.

  • C4580 Wireless Networking Issue - WEP Security Key not accepted.

I keep getting this error whe doing network setup on my new Photosmart C4580.
"Your wireless rounter requires a WEP secuirty key. The security key configured on your printer does not match exactly. Reconfigure your wireless network WEP security key for your printer."
I have downloaded an updated installer. I have tried to access the printer via the IP address to make the change. It is never updated. When I run the Wireless Network Test Report it also shows it fails. I am entering in the first WEP security key (Index 1). I know the key is being entered correctly. I have even copied and pasted it. Nothing works.
    Help Please!

    Jim:
Thanks for your comments. I think you may be right. I have more information now. I installed a later version of the C4500 package (to fix another problem where the PC Firewall and internet access was disabled for 3 mins at startup), and the network setup/diagnostics are different in the newer package. After installing this the first time, everything worked - I mean everything, even scan from printer. During the Network Setup the wizard found only one network (mine). However, the Wireless Network Report said it had detected two.
However, the next time I switched the printer on, it never connected. Network diagnostics then told me that the PC and the printer were on different networks, 192.168.0.0 and 169.254.0.0 and that this usually results from two close networks with the default router manufactures SSID. This is not the case here - I am in any case in a very isolated country farm!  It also (predictably) said the WEP was wrong. At one point in the diagnostic I can see it's trying 169.254.196.213.  There's nothing on my network other than 192.168.0.*  Attempts to reconfigure the network again show that there is only one network detected on-air, and no duplicate SSIDs, but the same result in the diagnostic - crossed-networks. Even re-installing the software won't fix it now. Whereas before I could at least print/scan from the PC and only the printer 'thought' the network was dead, now the network really IS dead and I am left with a USB-only setup.
I think you may be right that the printer somehow 'remembers' a phantom/ghost network. What I need is some way to hard-reset the printer. I saw in other postings that you know something about this, at least on other printers. Alternatively, I need a way to set the printer network parameters, including hard-coded IP address, over the USB but WITHOUT the router radio on, then switch it on and let the HP network setup wizard find it over the radio. Any ideas on that one please?
