Network service commands on my Nokia N900

Hi there!
I just acquired my N900 two days ago from a Nokia authorised dealer in Nigeria and even convinced a colleague to pick one yesterday as well.
I live in Nigeria and my GSM operator is etisalat, im presently experiencing difficulties with using service commands on my phone. For instance, when i dial *235(hash, sorry cant find the symbol on my macbook pro) to check my balance; i get an error message saying "number incorrect". Other service commands dont also work. Is there a way around this?
Its frustrating also that there is no official Nokia plugin for isync. I use a macbook pro and cant seem to find a way around syncing both devices. In the interim, I found www.salling.com very useful in transferring my media files.
Should be grateful for useful tips and hints.
Thanks

Actually there is a way to use service commands. You have to use an app called USSD pad. Here is the instructions from santy245 on how to install the USSD pad app.
1. First, install Rootsh v1.5 download it here http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/rootsh/
or http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Ma... to enable root access on X Terminal.
1B. download -->.deb file) put it in a folder name the folder a
2. Open X Terminal on the Nokia N900 (ITS IN THE APPLICATION MENU PAGE 2)
type sudo gainroot  (Just like that) and press enter. (This will not work if you skip the        first  step)
3. Ok now type cd MyDocs/TheNameOfTheFolder
(include the path name of the folder you made if you made a new folder.
I made a folder and called it a) this what I had to type cd MyDocs/a (Just like that)
   and press enter
4. Ok stop while running X Terminal open the File Manger to make sure your .deb file is where
you said it was and rename it to ussdpad (Just like that)
5. Then go back to X Terminal type dpkg -i ussdpad.deb (Just like that) and press enter
ok you are done go to (APPLICATION MENU PAGE 2) you should see ussd pad

The phone doesn't yet support this "operator codes" so you need to call the appropriate number instead. I understand this feature will be coming in a firmware update.. See this thread for more info

  • SQL Server analysis service command does not retry in agent job

    Hello,
I'm working on SQL Server 2008 R2 version. I have scheduled a SQL server agent job to process analysis service cube using an analysis service command. Sometimes this job fails due to network load. So I set this job to retry 2 times after 10 mins interval.
There were no retry attempts when job failed. There was no error message.
I simulated this scenario using simple analysis service command which I intentionally set to fail. That's right. It's not retrying for analysis service commands. Any workaround for this ? any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Anush87,
In your scenario, you had set that the step to retry 2 times after 10 mins interval. However, there were no any retry attempts when job failed, and you can reproduce this issue, right?
Since there is no any error message, it's hard to give you the root reason that cause this issue. Based on my research, so many other people had encountered this issue which you can see on the link below
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/543acccb-f107-420b-9652-53856c9137bb/sql-server-agent-job-retry-not-working?forum=sqldatabaseengine, you can you can submit a feedback at the link below
    http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback
So that Microsoft will confirm that if this issue is a bug in SQL Server Agent job.
However, in order to troubleshoot this issue, you can query Agent job information to ensure the job configure settings are correct, you can refer to the link below to check it.

  • Wi Fi disappeared from my network services. Now, Wi Fi unavailable on my Mac.

    I am using a Mac Pro (early 2009 Model) OS X 10.10.2, 2.93 GHz, 8GB memory.
About a week ago, my Wi Fi suddenly disappeared from my Network Services. I cannot access any Wi Fi network because the Icon or a Wi Fi link does not show up anywhere. I tried the diagnostic test but that did not work. I re-booted my computer, I re-installed Yosemite and did a software update and my Wi Fi still did not show up in the network services.
Any help in reconnecting my Wi Fi services will be greatly appreciated.
    Skel.

Open the Network pane in System Preferences. A list of available network services appears on the left. If Wi-Fi is in the list, select it, then from the popup menu labeled with a gear icon at the bottom of the list, select
              Make Service Active
    Click Apply.
If Wi-Fi is not in the service list, click the plus-sign button at the bottom of the list, and then select Wi-Fi from the  Interface menu in the sheet that drops down. Click Create, then Apply.
If there is a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, click it and enter your administrator password to unlock the settings.
If the above steps don't solve the problem, continue.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Restart the computer and recreate your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Brand new Nokia N900 ceases just after half a day ...

I recieved the new Nokia N900 as an upgrade. It crashed few time opening emails, however restarted automatically. Later on it crashed on ovi map (pre installed). I tried rebooting after taking the taking the battery out and putting it back in - no joy! I tried startgin without the sim card -still the same problem - it starts with the Nokia banner and then 5 flashing dots... that's it.
I have used Nokia for over 10 years, I never experienced this from Nokia.
I think N900 is still 'Work in Progress', am not sure if it is fully tested yet!!

    you need this thread!
    /discussions/board/message?board.id=maemo&thread.id=1799
This is a known problem.. And I'll be brief here since there are lots of posts about it..
A bug in the firmware causes some devices to reboot.. Your's is an unluck one.. There is a permanent fix in an up and coming firmware release (not the one released today.. but soon) but in the mean time we have a work around..
you have two problems.. first getting your device booting..
Each time your device randomly rebooted itself, it increased a counter.. when this counter reached its upper limit (17 reboots) the device will STOP booting.. as yours has.. To reset this limit you need to manually restart your phone.. use the power button to turn it off.. use the power button to turn it on and the counter goes back to zero..
problem is, your device has already reached the limit so we need to trick it into going back to zero..
The easiest option may not work for you.. but it is fairly simple..
Take the battery out.. plug your phone into your computer.. put the battery back in.. allow the phone to boot..
If that doesn't work, you'll need to use the longer process detailed in the link above.. Read the first post carefully and see the section:
REPAIRING A DEVICE THAT NO LONGER BOOTS
If your device won't boot and won't respond to flasher.. the battery could be flat.. you MUST charge the battery to get your device booting. To do this you'll need to find someone with a Nokia N900, 5800 or 5230 handset since they all use the same battery.. If you device won't boot, it won't charge..
Ok, assuming these instructions have helped your device boot, you need to implement the patch to stop it rebooting..
Open this URL in your phone
    http://chris.intrepid.cx/N900/fix
Click and INSTALL the first link.. when you click the first link select open..you'll be taken to app manager and you must proceed with the install
Go back to the browser and click and SAVE the second link.. Save the file in the documents folder of your device..
now, open an Xterminal and type these two commands exactly.. remember they are case sensative:
    sudo gainroot
    sh MyDocs/.documents/fixpm.sh enable
Reboot your device once more and you should hopefully have a happy N900!
Any problems refer to the first link in this post... and post and questions in that thread..

  • Network services

    Hi,
We recently changed our operating system from Solaris 2.5.1 to Solaris 10, and I've got a problem with one of our legacy scripts. This one only makes a few checks ( which are all ok ), and launches a simple rsh command to a raid system to stop it ( with a particular user ). Everything seems right, until this rsh which returns the following error messages :
"tcgetaddr: no such device or address<br />
ioctl I_FIND ttcompat: no such device or address"
Note that we do another rsh just before this one, on the local station and this one is ok. This script is also only useful when the station stops, it does nothing on start.
An important point is that this legacy script works fine without being executed during the reboot / halt process ( if I launch it manually, everything is ok ).
I tried to move this legacy script into a service, using dependency feature in case network services are stopped while my script executes, but nothing I tried corrected the problem. I even made a dependency to make my service depend on the zones service, to be sure all network is ok. The service is a transient one ( but I'm a newbie on smf )
Does someone has any idea about what is going on ? And can someone confirm the fact that if my script depends on the zones service, it will stop before it ?
    Thanks by advance

  • Can't flash kernel in nokia n900, please help.

My nokia N900 has suddenly has gone into weired loop of showing error message>>rebooting>>again error meesage...
message says "can't flash kernels, required files not found
    Guru Meditation #00000025.62017712"
I tried flashing and downloaded "Flasher", "WinFlasher_3.12.1.exe", since I've windows 7 in 32 bit operating system.
It opens properly, but after i give first command "flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f". It shows prompt command and says nothing about detecting, as lot of post refers to.
Please someone help me on this.

First, Thanks a lot for replying.
Second, I'm not very familiar with linux. I followed the instructions posted by ceroberts75 as sticky at the first page.
    1. Download the Flasher
    2. Download the latest firmware image for your N900  (you will need your IMEI of the device)
    3. when you save the global variant of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "pr1.2.bin"
    4.  When you save the vanilla file of the firmware to the "flasher-3.5" folder, save it as "vanilla.bin"
    5.  Turn your phone off
    6.  launch the flasher-3.5 program
    7.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F pr1.2.bin -f
it will then scroll a bunch of gibberish and then say it is looking for a unit.
    8.  with the phone still off, hold slide the kb open and hold the "U" button while you connect the usb cable to the phone.  continue holding the "U" until you see the faint "NOKIA" logo and/or the USB connection symbol in the top right.  The flasher will find the device and automatically flash the unit to the original rom
    9.  after about 1.5 minutes, it will be complete.  DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR UNIT!
    10.  type this command:   flasher-3.5.exe -F vanilla.bin -f -R
    11.  now it should reflash the device and wipe the emmc clean of EVERYTHING.  after it reboots, you can disconnect it.
My problem starts after step 7. It doesn't scrolls any thing nor it says its looking for the unit. It keeps going back to prompt command.
I hope somebody can tell me what mistake I'm doing.
    Thanks.

  • Limited network service profile using zonecfg

Is there a zonecfg command that will set a local zone up with the limited network service profile (e.g. disable all remote access services except ssh)?    In the process of creating scripts to create zones using  zonecfg -f zonecfg_command_file, and would like to include this in the zonecfg_command_file  if possible.   Already know how to setup this profile manually after the zone has been installed and pre booting it.
    Thanks,

    Hi Mohammad,
    1. To utilize the KVM, you need to configure the IP management pool - from which the IP addresses are automatically taken from. All IP addresses in the management IP pool must be in the same subnet as the IP address of the fabric interconnect.
    2. If you shut down the blade (that has a service profile associated to it) and move the blade to another slot, the service profile will NOT follow the blade. The service profile will have an configuration error saying that the server resource is unavailable. The blade in the new slot will come up as unassociated.
    Hope this helps to clarify.
    Thanks,
    Michael

    ramkissoon_01

feedback is basically a sound loop you get when your output and input affect eachother, so chances are its not that which means its probably a faulty mic, if its only happening every so often it could be a problem with your network or local cell tower
if it happens everytime i'd send it for a repair

  • Regarding social networking services like gtalk an...

    hi ,
i was also unable to find out gtalk and yahoo messenger in nokia C6 but Your brouchere mention that these social networking messengers are available in nokia c6?

Ditto here. I'm in India on C5 but the chat application from nokia doesen't let me connect
to any community other than ovi chat (no yahoo msngr/no gtalk).
The nokia messaging website and C5's pages on nokia.co.in all claim that support for
gtalk/yahoo msngr is provided with C5. Even the shop where I bought it said so.
But the fineprint in nokia's chat manual says the 'other communities' may be a premium
    service in some regions.
I'm not the only one unhappy that advertisements don't match the reality :-(
