Network shares of folks not on my local network showing up
Folks,
Recently did a fresh install of Leopard on my macbook pro. I'm now finding that at random times, other folks' mac machines are appearing in my finder window (under the right-hand menus). Now none of these machines are on my local home network - in fact, after looking up county tax records, these machines belong to folks that live up to a radius of 3 miles away! Considering all my internet traffic flows through my home router and I block ALL ports except 80 (and a few other ports for my VOIP phone), I'm really concerned that I can see their machines and I'm guessing, they can see mine.
When I navigate to their machines, thankfully I can only see their publicly shared folder which typically contains nothing, but from a security standpoint I'm concerned that the machines are even visible at all! Is anyone else experiencing this? I know that with Leopard, finding other macs on your local network is now a breeze, but surely finding macs on OTHER networks cannot be a feature! Ok - even if this is a feature, how do I turn it off? I don't want anyone NOT on my local lan even knowing my machine exists...
kb1 - I know you're trying to help but let me make it very clear so there is no ambiguity. I'm actually very very anal when it comes to wireless security. Nothing is allowed on my network that isn't pre-set up in my mac address filter list. I regularly check access to my network by removing a laptop from my pre-approved list and clearing out its WPA credentials. Getting on my network without a physical connection would require cracking my WPA encryption AND mac address spoofing. Not an easy feat in a suburban neighborhood. My network is not allowing any unathorized access via the wireless capability of the router.
I'm smart enough to know there is a **** of alot I don't know - therefore I am willing to concede that the Macbook's wireless card could be trying to make ad-hoc connections with other non-lan machines while it is connected to my infrastructure, but that in itself would seem like a bug to me, not a feature.

How to setup new site in dreamweaver if not working with Local Site Folder?
Dear All,
I am working with a website design (wordpress) project with a group of people, since we are working together on the same design, our developing site is not located in the local folder but on remote server, but I can't setup the website in DW if the developing site is not located locally.
Is there any way to do the development on remote server with DW, and what will be the site setup setting for it?

bruceSharing a "Local" site is a recipe for disaster vis-a-vis file versioning. The best way to avoid these problems is to have three locations defined:
1. A local site (truly local to your computer, although it can be on a network, shared drive).
2. A staging site (this would be the intermediate holding site for partially finished work.
3. A production site (this would be where the final versions of files are pushed).
Enable DW's Checkin/Checkout facility. Each of you would checkout files from the staging server, and when finished editing, checkin those same files to the staging server. Thus, you are not sharing a local site - you are sharing a remote file repository, which is your gold standard source for version protected files.

can't open i tunes on my computer. I get the message "This version of i Tunes has not been correctly localized for this language..."
I'm on a PC and have uninstalled an re-installed Itunes.That sorts out Windows but knocks out the network adaptors which means i can't get onto the web! So its either no iTunes or no web it seems. I've fully updated Windows andam now scratching my head. Any ideas are welcome. Thank you

have verified and repaired permissions. all downloads are giving me either invalid checksum or "image file corrupted" every other coputer on the network runs fine. Just wondering if i am going to have to wipe and reinstall. please say no.I got this problem after upgrading to 11.0.4. Solved it by going to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ , downloading the newest version and reinstalling. Works fine now.
Full disclosure - I was having problems with 11.0.3 crashing, so I had used Time Machine to revert to 11.0.2 prior to using system update to install 11.0.4 the first time. -
Wvc54gc not connecting wireless locally since updating firmware to V1.26
Pretty please help me. I've read through many web posts about getting my wireless camera to work. But nothing seems to match my situation or I've tried it already. The camera use to work wirelessly and then I decided to update the firmware to V1.26. Now it only works hardwired, not even wireless locally. I have 64-bit WEP enabled. I've resetted to factory defaults and put in my information again. I selected fixed IP. I have a netgear router.
Suggestions?Was the issue resolved from this thread? I too am having this issue after upgrading recently to firmware v1.26. I disabled the security on my linksys wrt54g router and still cannot get the camera to get an ip wirelessly. When using a network cable it will get an ip and and I can access it using my browser. Can you please help me ? The camera used to work fine before upgrading the firmware.

Login settings will not update the local testing server files
When uploading to web server from local testing server, changing login settings in the control panel does not update the local testing server Restrict Access to page files. Causing login on website not to function.
It does however update the Connections file and the login wizard form.
What is the best way to change login settings before uploading site to web server?

DanDan - I am having the same exact problem. I'm using the restrict access and user registration and login - when attempting to use the Update Record wizard to allow users to change their password or email address, it doesn't change the record.

How do I download a movie to my iphone 3G? When I click 'rent' in itunes, I get a message that there is not enough available local storage, but I can manage storage on my device in 'Settings'. I have activated icloud, but don't know how to change my storage so that I can rent and watch the movie on my phone. thanks for any help you can give.
I always do my Rentals with the itunes program on the computer.
Make rental from itunes store. It will show in movies under library, DO NOT click to play it. Plug in the device to the computer. Click the name of the device on left. Click on movies. There is an option to copy to the device. Sync. obviously you still need space on ipad to put rental but you can have it take computers hard drive space until you need it. -
Is there a way to create a PDF form where a Reader user can insert an image - that's NOT on their local hard drive?
I have 4 photos available - the users of my form will choose one of them and insert it in the pdf form. The users will NOT have the photos saved on their local hard drives so ideally, they will see thumbnails or a preview of the available photos and then select and insert the photo they want to use.
Is this possible? If so, how do I go about this? Right now, all I can find are ways to insert a photo located on the users local hard drive.

I'm planning to make a flier. I want the end user to be able to choose the photo displayed on the flier - the photos would be ones that I choose and supply. I know I could just make four different fliers, but I thought it would be more efficient if I had one flier and gave the Reader user the ability to select the photo they like.

How do I fix this and run the English version again? .Start by trying to repair iTunes from the programs and features control panel.
Otherwise, for general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I did a system restore, trying to get rid of the new update (which I HATE), and now when I try to open iTunes, I get an error message telling me that "This version of iTunes has not been correctly localized for this language. Please run the English version." You can't change the language option unless you can open iTunes - and IT WON'T OPEN!!! What a piece of crap! If there existed an iTunes substitute, I would purchase it in a hot minute!
Strip it out and start again.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

If you really want to roll back to 11.4 uninstall all iTunes/Apple components as described in the second box, restore the pre-upgrade version of the library as described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash, then download and install from one of these direct links:

Since upgrading to windows 8.1 I can not see any local files in the files window.
I have recently upgraded to windows 8.1 and can no longer see my local files in the files window. All remote files for all remote sites are visable.
If I change sites under local view get error thet dreamweaver can not update cacheThanks Nancy
It certainly worked in windows 8.
I have deactivated and am trying to reload software inside of windows 8.1.

I honestly don't know if DW CS5 is compatible with Win 8.1. The OS compatibility FAQ only mentions DW CS6 & CC.
