Network time servers out of sync?

Anyone know why the clock times on my Mac and my iPhone are different. Both are set to update automatically from the network, but the iPhone is consistently 36-37 seconds ahead of the Mac.
The Mac is a G5 running OS X, 10.5.8. The iPhone is a 3G running 4.0.2.

I should have known it was an AT&T problem ...{quote}
Not only AT&T ... it's curious that Telus (Canada) is also off by 34 seconds (today), and that AT&T is Telus's partner (when roaming the US). My only observation to add is that my iP4 seems to be losing 2 sec per day, therefore in another 10 days I'll be almost a full minute behind, whereas a month ago, I was only 15 sec behind. It'll be interesting to know when AT&T/Telus final figure out what time it is!
Also of note ... is that Apple won't let you sync the phone's clock by any other method ... eg, via an atomic clock app -- HOWEVER, you can disable automatic sync and change it yourself. Make sense(?)

  • Outlook and Reminders time is out of sync.

    Hello All,
This is my first post here so happy to be here , hope to get an answer.
My problem related to a Sync between Tasks in Outlook and Reminders on my iphone and ipad.
Here is my Test Task in Outlook
    And on my iphone
Why time on my iphone is diffrent?
Phone and PC in the same time zone.

    baltwo:
This is the crux of the problem, unfortunately:
I can set the 'Time and Date' preferences until time runs out for all of us, I fear, but when I restart, the preferences revert to GMT and the time is, indeed, Greenwich mean.
The preference I set for the 'Date and Time' simply will not hold past a restart; the settings will not even stay put past a 'Quit' and relaunch of the System Preferences application!
The crucial preference is, of course, the time zone, since the clock follows the location.
I don't want to do this, but the next step for me, I suppose, is to take the router off line and connect to my DSL provider using their modem. I may even use a different DSL modem I have.
This is a lot of bending and stooping and plugging in and out and my back is not up to the task at the moment.
I suppose I can live with the menu bar clock showing the correct time and date. My workaround is to leave the pref at GMT and simply set the right time for my location manually—then I uncheck the time server checking option.
I'm not saving files for which the date which gets stamped is mission-critical (as the cliché goes).
Thanks much for your interest, I have enjoyed getting your feedback.

  • Why is my time audio out of sync when I log and capture?

When I log and Capture from my server, it copies everything.  But when I play it, that audio doesn't match the video, but when I pause it, it stops on the place it is supposed to be?  Anyone have this happen to them before?  Please let me know.  Thank You!

I don't understand.  You log and capture FROM tape.  You could log and capture TO your scratch disk which could possibly be over a network.  If this is the case, try capturing locally and see if that works.  If so. the problem is with your network, not fcp.

  • Network time is 40-seconds off!

This is a mind-boggler! I have two Macs side-by-side, a Power Mac G4 and a G4 iBook. Both are connected (wirelessly) to my Airport Extreme Base station which is about eight feet away. The iBook displays time that is about forty seonds ahead of my G4 Power Mac and an "Atomic" Digital Clock that is mounted on the wall above the Power Mac. For a long time I thought the iBook was not receiving the Apple Time Server signal even though I have that port opened in the Firewall. A short while ago I read in the Discussion Group about intentionally setting the Date/Time incorrectly with the Time Server disabled and then enabling it. I quickly tried that and to my amazement and chagrin found the the date/time was corrected but the time displayed was once again 40 seconds ahead of both the Power Mac and wall clock.
Any thoughts? Not a show-stopper, but surely a mystery.

    Hi KenW.
I'm a little perfectionist and also care about such dirty little things as you have one there. Can it be possible that the Apple Time Servers are not as accurate as they should be? Why not try another, just to be sure?
According to BIPM (Bureau International des Poids et Mesures) the NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) is responsible for the time in the USA. NIST has some alternative network time servers available for you to use.

  • HT4623 Videos from Netflix, youtube, etc. frequently stop, freeze and run out of sync on my ipad gen4.  Any hints as what to do to correct this problem?

Videos on my ipad 4gen stop, freeze and when they do restart at times are out of sync.  This happens on Netflix, youtube, FoxNews, etc. Any suggestions as to the problem or correction.

The most common cause of this type of issue is an inconsistant or slow internet connection.
But, you might want to try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray BEFORE doing the reset.

  • TS3694 Why can't I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1? Every time I try it gets all the way done downloading it; however when it's processing the file the page tells me "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. Network connection timed out.

Why can't I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1? Every time I try it gets all the way done downloading it; however when it's processing the file the page tells me "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. Network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. or try again later." and next to the file it has err = -3259. I have tried this 17 times and it won't work. My iTunes is completely up to date. I have made sure that my connection is fine and I have tried turning my firewall off with no avail. This has happened to me before but usually the update will go through after 2-3 tries, never to this extent. I don't know what to do. Help!

Error -3259 is a network timeout error, usually. This article might help:

  • Network time out while updating to 2.2.1

I have tried unsuccessfully more than 2 months now to update my iPhone to 2.2.1. Each time it takes 25 minutes to download the update, then I receive an error message saying the network has timed out. The same problem happened last time when I tried to update to 2.2 and I just keep trying once every while and just out of the blue my iphone finally got updated to 2.2 finally. I think this is really annoying when everytime there is an updated sofeware coming up and same problem happened, especially when some of the applications in itunes store can only worked with the lastest sofeware version!
Also, after I have updated my itunes to version 8.2.0.23, the program is not able to read any of the music that I have previously downloaded and I have to do it manually again!
Can someone in Apple do something about these software problems or is it the kind of service standard that I should expect from such an important product from such a prestigious company?

If you have a PC, try temporarily disabling your firewall and your anti-virus software and any other anti-whatever that is required with Windows before downloading the update. Since an iPhone firmware update includes an installer and is a large download, this likely causes problems with anti-virus software that is required with Windows.
Was all or most of your iTunes music purchased from the iTunes store, or was it imported into your iTunes library from another source?

  • How to get SNTP (Simple Network Time Protocol) time from any time Servers?

    Hi All,
I am trying to get the date and time from any internet time servers (http://tf.nist.gov/service/time-servers.html). How do I get that within the java program.
    ex: InetAddress address = InetAddress.getByName("time-nw.nist.gov");
then a variable holds the current date and time (optional any specific time zone)
    Thanks in advance!
    Gajen

    Hi there,
As an update, AtomicDate ([atomicdate.sourceforge.net|http://atomicdate.sourceforge.net] ) is a clean and flexible Java implementation of the NTP/SNTP protocol. It's main features are integration with the Spring Framework and a network time enabled version of java.util.Date. Cheers!

  • 1 hour clip in time-line goes gradually out of sync

    Hello,
I captured a one hour mini-DV tape to a G4 Powerbook as one clip in FCP 4.5. As it plays in the timeline, it gradually goes out of sync and eventually goes way out of sync. Why would this happen? The tape itself plays fine in the camera and as it was captured it appeared to be in in sync all the way through. Thanks.
    Jonathan

Mini dv does not lock the audio to the picture, so over a period of time you'll get sync drift. Check to see that your sequence settings for audio match the camera's. FCP defaults at 48k. if you shot at 32k (12 bit), than on a long capture your audio will drift out of sync. You can create a sequence that is 32k, that might help but it looks like you'll have to move the audio track possibly in sections to get it back into sync.

Disable or turn off your firewall, anti-virus, and all security software and try the download again.

  • Audio and Video are out of sync after time remaping.

After I did the time remap, audio and video are completely out of sync.
    I don't know what I did wrong.Please HELP.
I did a short video(43seg) to explain myself better
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0PQEoZvGbk

ha. having the video is killer. there are a couple ways to do this. i'd recommend using the blade tool (tap b twice to get the one that cuts all tracks), make a cut through the audio and the video at the points where you want it sped up, then right click the clip itself (which should be linked with audio and video) and then just set it to whatever speed you want. it'll have the same effect. you might have to adjust boundaries or you can select ripple.
alternatively, it looks like you just needed to do the same thing to the audio that you did to the video in that clip you uploaded. you can always relink things by selecting the audio and video and hitting cmnd+L.
    hope that helps.

  • Flash/Youtube videos - sound out of sync over time -[CHROME]

Hi - i have some problems with videos in Chrome - when i watch videos - the sound gets out of sync from the video over time - in the start of the video the sound is perfect in sync - but after about 7 min the sound plays around 1-3 seconds before the video. it seems like the sound is playing at 100% speed but the video is only playing at 99% speed so the sound slowly gets more and more out of sync - have tried disableling flash in chrome in chrome://plugins but no result - have updated drivers

A/V sync is hard, and there are hundreds of ways to encode a video.  Adobe provides guidance on how to best publish content to ensure that it consistently plays back well, but that's an uphill battle.
A direct link to the problem video is the most useful information you could provide in this case, along with details about your system.  It would also be useful to know if the A/V sync problem goes away if you disable hardware acceleration, as described in the video troubleshooting guide.

  • HT1212 ipad disabled it syncs sand starts download for update but stops and says network connection timed out. its not 3g cant use find iphone

trying to unlock sons disabled ipad mini cant use find iphone not 3g and wont connect internet when disabled syncs to itunes whenusing never synced method
asks if i want to update and restore download starts and then message syas network connection timed out. any ideas on another method i can update after unlocked and restore all his stuff from icloud

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
    - Then try on another computer
