Is there a way to get to a Command Line on my Xoom?
As a Alternate is there a  syite of Network Tools for android?
Looking for a suite of tools like Netscan with Ping, TraceRoute and Whois.

Thanks for your help.  My apologies about the Brick Crack.  No intent to be rude.   I wil uninstall and reinstall and give it another shot.  Your initial thought was right, I am looking for  aTerminal Emulator.
I will work with both of your suggestions and report back.

  • Lync Network assessment tool for pre-implementation load simulations?

Does anyone know of a good tool for running simulated traffic and measuring network performance prior to implementing Lync?
I am looking for a tool that would be able to simulate the different types of traffic generated by Lync and uses the associated codecs.  I currently use NetIQ Vivinet Assessor for VoIP traffic, but it is limited to only the standard voice codecs.  I
would like to be able to measure the performance of a data network prior to implementing any of the Lync servers, so it cannot rely on any of the MS services.
Thanks in advance for any help in identifying a tool.

    Hello,
I am just checking to find out if the LSS tool must be executed within the production Network environment in order to determine the actual and useable Network metrics during a Network Traffic Simulation. One of the LSS
related documents (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41935) suggest that the tool should be executed in an isolated test environment.
I will also like to know if I can only perform a Network Readiness Assessment Traffic simulation after deploying the planned Lync 2013 Servers\Topology into production.
I will appreciate some help in clarifying these two points.

  • [announce] tool for selecting network from console (netcfg-based)

    Hi all!
I'm happy to announce new 'wifi-select' tool for selecting networks "in real-time" (in NetworkManager manner). I heard on the forums there were requests for such a tool from the users of netcfg. The tool is convinient for use in wifi-cafe or another places you are visiting first (and maybe last) time. Then you don't need to create the file-profile for a new network, just type 'sudo wifi-select eth1' and choose the network you need.
The tool is currently packaged and available in AUR (yaourt -S wifi-select).
    It works as follows:
    - parses 'iwlist scan' and presents list of networks along with its security settings (wpa/wep/none) using 'dialog'.
    - if user selects network with existing profile -- just use this profile to connect with 'netcfg'.
    - if user selects a new network (for example network from wifi-cafe he currently visited), net-select automatically generates new profile with corresponding $SECURITY and asks for the key (if needed). It uses DHCP as $IP by default.
    - then, if connection succeeds, profile is saved for later usage.
    - if connection fails, user is asked if he/she wants to keep generated profile for further usage (for example to change $IP to static or adjust some additional options).
Parsing of 'iwlist' output is done using AWK script (this seems to be clearer than grep+sed in my case). I've put it under /usr/lib/network (where netcfg .subr-files are located).
I sent the scripts to James Rayner aka iphitus (maintainer of netcfg), he was interested and suggested to package the tool in AUR and if there would be some attention and interest -- he would package it in extra.
So, I'm waiting for your feedback and questions.

  • Wi-Fi Network Monitoring Tool for Palm OS 5.x

    Hi there..
I'm trying to develop a 802.11b/g monitor tool for a Palm device (Tungsten C) using J2ME and it turns out to be pretty difficult or maybe even impossible.. meaning, I'm stuck. Since the J2ME VM is optimized for CLDC/MIDP enabled devices, it can't execute parts of the bytecode I used from jpcap. Same while trying to use libpcap with Java (using wrapper classes), it needs some of the J2SE classes which are not or partly supported by J2ME. So I was wondering whether you guys might have some suggestions to solve my problem (using Java)?
Thanx & Greets from Switzerland, Mike.

Any particular bytecode? Like maybe to do with doubles/floats? Or is java classes required by libpcap that are missing? I'm guessing you need deeper access to the 802.11 libraries to do monitoring. All you'll have in MIDP is the 'http' connector protocol.

  • Are there any free WiFi scanning tools for iPad?

    such as inSSIDer available.
    Thanks

The short answer is, No.  iTunes had some Wi-Fi sniffers, but banned them and pulled them from the store before the iPad was released about four years ago.  It's a shame really.
I use something simular to inSSIDer on a HP touch pad running Ice Cream Sandwich, very handy.  The network tool I use most on iOS is Scanny, which is just a port scanner, great for checking my server for leaks.

  • Is Aperture the tool for me?

    Afternoon all,
Following on from a separate forum thread I've got here in iPhoto https://discussions.apple.com/message/20902055?ac_cid=op123456#20902055?ac_cid=o p123456, I wondered whether the Aperture thread could also help me out.
I'm looking to have a single product to use as a central catalogue and referencing tool for the 000s of photos I've already got but also the 000s yet to be taken. I'm intending to have these photos stored on a NAS with appropriate backup measures, but accessing them through this as yet unknown product through wi-fi. I'm likely to do minimal photo manipulation other than the basics and enjoy the features of iPhoto so the main benefit is the ability to reference the images from a networked location. TD has kindly advised that iPhoto isnt the right product due to various limits due to networking.
My question is simple: Is Aperture the tool for me?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Tim

If you read TD's answer carefully, it says
It cannot have the Library on a networked location, such as a NAS. iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.
The main problem is the formatting of the drive - for Aperture holds the same: The library needs to be on a disk formatted MacOS X Extended. Otherwise you are risking inconsistencies in your Aperture library  and open a can of worms, see:
Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
If you absolutey want to store your Photolibrary on a NAS, you can create a writable diskimage formatted MacOS X extended on your NAS and store the library on this disk image. You will have to take care to automount the diskimage before you access Aperture. This will be tedious and slow.
The question, if you can put your Aperture library on a network volume is open to a debate, but I would not do it.
For a good performance the access to the Aperture library needs to be very fast - I'd put the library on the fastest drive you have, with a very fast port, Thunderbolt, for example. My library sits on a second internal drive.
Your network needs to be very stable, if you want reliable database transactions for your Aperture library.
    2. While you can run iPhoto in Referenced mode, with the Masters on a NAS and the library on a local disk, this is inherently unreliable. Here has more:
This is better in Aperture. Other than iPhoto Aperture has built-in tools to deal with referenced original files. So you can move the bulk of your image files to an external volume and keep only the Aperture library on your internal volume.

    Léonie

  • Tools for SAP development work management?

    Hi fellow SAP developers!
As you know, in a big software company the management of development work can be a challenge. Everyone should be able to see quickly who is doing what, who is available for new work, how did some old requests get solved and where is their documentation. We are talking about more than just some simple ticket management system here. It would be a central repository and work management tool for years to come.
I am interested to hear some suggestions for good tools that can be used for development work management in SAP world.
    - It should be a tool where development requests can be input, reviewed, approved, documented and stored.
    - It should support storing attachments
    - It should support a project structure, under which the development items are created.
    - It should be searchable and have different views to the development requests (for example by project, request raiser, developer, status etc.)
    - It should have some kind of approval system or workflow.
    - It should also support email notifications when the status or person assignment changes.
    - It should run on large corporate network (accessible in intranet, perhaps via browser).
    - A nice bonus would be a mobile client access for urgent cases
I'm keen to hear any proposals, even if not all the points in the wishlist are fullfilled
I'm interested to hear any comments on your exeperiences on various work  management tools. What worked and what not?

Well, a SAP based product would be efficient as it is integrated and there would be no need for additional licenses etc.
I have to investigate the Solution manager offerings more, if that indeed could handle this task. Have you got any further information or experience?
Rally sounds interesting as well! Are there any other tools like that, proven good in SAP development?
For simply using Abap workbench, I'm afraid that is not good enough for what I'm after. How would you manage for example work queues, project based issue views and extensive solution documentation with it? And everything would have to be searchable and visible for also for non-technical managers who do not log in to SAP.

  • A Quality report as a tool for the Quality management of Web services

    Hi everybody,
I would like to explain and discuss my current research project with you:
The differentiation from competitors is crucial for the economic success of a product. This differentiation can be achieved in addition to price and the date of the market entry through the product quality. To differentiate the quality of products, it is necessary to distinguish between several relevant product characteristics, to determine their values, to evaluate these values and to relate this evaluation to the evaluation of other products. Techniques for the determination of the quality of a product are used in many areas of the quality management, e.g. in the quality assessment.
Web Services are software systems supporting a machine-machine interaction over a network. Web services are often used as modules in different software architectures, especially in Service-oriented architectures (SOA).
In the course of quality management of a Web service applied in software consequently needs appropriate procedures and quality models as means to determine the quality. As there is a lack, research is needed in this field.
In order to eliminate the described deficit, a procedure is to develop that helps to determine the quality of a Web service. A report is conceivable which integrates all relevant views, all influences on the quality and all phases of the life cycle of a Web services.
During the research a lot of similarities between Life cycle assessments of environmental management and the quality management have been identified. These similarities include e.g. principles, procedures and the terminology. Since the Life cycle assessments relate on the product life cycle, on the stakeholders and on all relevant product characteristics, an adaption of the method on the quality management of software seems to be promising.

I would like to answer the following two research questions:
    - Is it possible to adapt the principles and procedures of Life cycle assessment and Sustainability reporting to the quality management of Web services?
    - Is a quality report based on these findings an appropriate tool for quality management?
Do you have any experiences with the quality management of Web services? Which procedures do you use to determine the quality of Web services? How are your experiences with that procedures? Where are their weaknesses?

  • Contribute 4 upgrade via network tool Zenworks

We are preparing to upgrade a significant number of
Contribute 2 programs to Contribute 4. We would like to use an MSI
file and our “ZENworks” network tool (ZENworks is

The msi file can be extracted from the setup exe using Winzip
    a) Providing the serial number is not possible.
    b) Import settings is an in-product feature, and the
    installer plays no
part in this. Not possible again.

    Hello All,
There are many wonderful Service Provider infrastructure hardening documents available from Cisco CCO and CiscoPress.
I have seen many over my life. Sample documents are:
Mannaging ACLs (7600, CRS IOS-XR, GSR) - automation tools, Document ID: 13608
Network Core Infrastructure Best Practices, Yusuf Bhaiji
Cisco Guide to Harden Cisco IOS XR Devices
Each service provider is recommended to enable and configure rACLs, CoPP, block unnecessary control protocols over the edge, Protect BGP peering with interface ACLs and many many more. Unfortunately there is no tool available from Cisco to configure and maintain all those features.
I would like to ask question to NetPro community. Have you seen any working products from Cisco or Cisco partners for ACL management. Lets keep Cisco Security Manager (CSM) aside. CSM is enterprise oriented tool and supporting routers up to 6500/7600.
I’m looking for this tool for few years already. Looks like other Service Providers are using home made developments. Google recently partially published own tool capirca to a public domain (do search on “ACL Management @ Google” or capirca). This is good start but I is missing ACL deployment module (it is not released by google).
    Please share you experience!
    Cheers!

When you hit this number of AP's you probably want to look into the WLC (Wireless Lan Controller) This appliance is perfect for managing AP's pushing new configs etc.

  • VMware Tools for Windows 3.x

    Hello,
I created a fork of VMware Tools for Windows 3.x 16-bit operating systems. Currently these tools include:
time synchronization between ESXi host and VM
    CPU idle support
    FAT12 and FAT16 shrink support
experimental 100 mbit/s network card support
famous Intel 8086 turbo button emulation
emulation of 5.25“ floppy drives and their sound for a better user-experience
For the future 10 Gbit/s and InfiniBand support is planned.
Check-out the source code on GitHub: stdevel/vmtools-w16 · GitHub
    Best regards!

I know you must use 16-bit DLLs if LabVIEW is installed on Win 3.x. The LabVIEW CD for versions 4 and 5 contains NT/95/3.1 versions. Can't you just install the Win 95 version? If you're using an older version, maybe its time to upgrade.

  • PS-Tools For Mac?

Is anyone aware of a program similar to PS-TOOLS for the Mac? I need to be able to remotely reboot a PC on the same network from my G-5 (10.4.11).
    Thanks!

Hmmm, not sure I'm clear on what you want to do, but with Chicken of the VNC on the 10.4 Mac & I forget which free APP on the PC at the moment...
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/files/cotvnc/Chicken%20of%20the%20VNC%202 .0b4/cotvnc-20b4.dmg/download
You can Share the PC on your Mac's screen and control it.
You might use Terminal to make a connection & control it also.

  • J2ME dev tools for simple demo apps

    Hello community,
I 've been using Java for a long time and recently got a project involving j2me. Its mostly apps for demo purposes, therefore there is not a lot of logic/network traffic involved. For example, one app is a bunch of screens guiding the user throught different text blobs and pictures. It is very similar in structure to browsable content, with links and forms, just like a very simple HTML site.
I have always used netbeans for developing java, and it seems that it has some neat tricks for create ME apps. You can use a nice drag and drop design mode that also auto-gens code. But I have found a tool like http://www.cascadamobile.com/ , in which you write simple HTML/js pages that link to each other and then this thing will generate the j2me code from that. That would be exactly what I would need for my purpose, save for the fact that the product is Ad-supported, so its a no-go.
Maybe I could make a j2me app as a WML-browsable content so that I would just have to compose the wml and then the app would just "browse" them from the phone's memory?
In any case, the question is, are there any fast tools for making simple (mostly demo) apps, in a j2me environment?
    Thank you.

RealBasic, Metrowerks Codewarrior, you might find some references on http://developer.apple.com/ and one software vendor I know still makes software for it is http://www.lemkesoft.com/
And they might be able to tell you what tools they use.

  • I've had a network extender for 2 years and since August I can't get a GPS signal

I have had a network extender for over 2 years and have had no problems with it.   Since August, I have had nothing but trouble.  The GPS signal went out and I went through all of the Verizon troubleshooting tips and nothing worked.  They sent me a new one and it has worked for about 2 weeks however now I have the same exact problem, the GPS is red and I haven't had a GPS signal for 2 weeks now.  What is going on? How is it possible that after over 2 years of having no issues, we can't get a GPS signal?

I spoke with another Verizon tech rep and he was going to open a network trouble ticket however first he needed to gather some information.  He directed me to this site http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx
to get info on the speak of my computer and IP connection however when I began the test, there was an error and it couldn't measure my VOIP connection.  The Verizon rep said that there isn't software in the network extender and that it's based off the VOIP.  So he suggested I call my internet provider and tell them that I'm trying to use a VOIP and for some reason it's not working.  He suggested I tell them I'm trying to use Vonage and not Verizon though.  Anyway, I'm going to call Comcast tomorrow and provide them the information that I got off the http://8x8.com/Resources/Tools/VoIPTest.aspx site.   Not sure if that will help you but I will keep you posted as to what Comcast tells me.
