Remember we let you know we were rolling out our faster broadband? We’ve now done it in your area. We always offer the fastest speed your line can take and now your broadband speed and connection should be faster and more stable than before.
I've seen no difference - should I?

Hi
You are on adsl2+ which is the up to 20mb service however due to your line attenuation ( line length ) approx3.5km you will see very little difference in speed as you are in the change over region of benefiting from the upgrade unfortunately there is no way of improving your speed further due to your distance from the exchange sorry I cannot offer any better news

To be honest not being able to send or recieve messages and data is a carrier issue, not a phone issue since u said that your calls are working, if i were you my first course of action would be to get a new sim card from virgin mobile, or to restore the device as new one more time, if you restore the device as new AND get a new sim card from your carrier and those features still dont work, i would take the device to an apple store

  • Slower speeds after network upgrade

    Hi folks,
On July 19th my exhange received a network upgrade(Glenrothes South,i believe) and since then my speeds have dropped by around 20% ant both peak and off-peak times.
Phoned BT and was told about the 10 day settling time, which i was already aware of and never notied there to be any change during and after the period in speed whenever i have had a braodband connection installed,i monitor this closely btw.
Does anyone have any advice on my next course of action to remedy this as i fail to see why i should continue to pay for a supposedly upgraded service which is infact worse than before.
     Thanks ,in advance

Photos does not support external editing like iPhoto. Is there likely to be an upgrade to change this or will I abandon Photos for software that does support editing in Photoshop?

iPhoto does work and there is an upgrade:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Recent software upgrades has changed the way my iPhone syncs with my macbook and items entered on my iPhone are no longer uploaded to my macbook. I've tried to fix it and seem to have made things worse, my iPhone now has a long list of calanders that I don't want and can't delete and nothing is uploading to my macbook.

You need to look at Mac's iTunes, check  > System Preferences > iCloud.
If you use iCloud for Calendar, Contacts then turn off those items in iTunes, Info tab with your iPhone connected and selected.

  • Your network settings were changed by another program

I changed the settings on my DSL modem-router so that it signs me in and handles PPPoE, not the Mac. When I attempted to change the setting on my PowerBook Ti to DHCP, using the network part of system preferences, I got a dialog box saying "Your network settings were changed by another program". I could dismiss this window only by quitting immediately after trying to dismiss the dialog box. After a couple of tries system preferences would quit. I can however access the internet through AirPort and the same DSL modem-router. Does anyone know how I can change my ethernet setting to DHCP so that I can surf the web using ethernet?

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

    Kappy's fix won't work-I don't have a "systemconfiguration" folder and I don't have that group of plists.

  • Network upgrade completed and no internet

Well BT emailed me are pleased to tell me that my network upgrade has been completed on the 22nd June. They actually did it 21st June so good on them for doing it early. However, since this time I have had no internet connection. My BT Home Hub connects at 10,800 downstream with an upstream of 888 kbps but I get nowhere on the 'net. BT Home Hub is v1.00, so I have wireless, data and broadband lights no internet light.
Three BT engineers have been scheduled. First said, issue is at the exchange and he would pass the call over. Still not working when BT India called back. An engineer was scheduled Friday...no show. An engineer was scheduled today...no show.
So, one upgrade, 3 engineers, umpteen minutes on the phone and still no internet connection. I am so very annoyed! Trying to be civil to the poor BT India people but slowly going mad.
Can a BT forum mod help me before I take a gun from my cabinet and either point it at the router or at my head?
EDIT: Yet another engineer booked in for Wednesday.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I know exactly what's wrong with your internet connection because it took us over a week to get ours reinstated after the 'Retail Migration Team' had kindly updated our network.  What they are keeping quiet is that the old white HomeHub (which we had) is not compatible with the network upgrade so it will never work while you have the old hub.  Trying to make the call centre in India understand what was wrong was **bleep** - even though I have to say they are very polite and do try to help, but they can only follow their technical script.  We knew for a fact that our equipment was all working ok and it was to do with the upgrade.   An engineer finally called and he was on the ball enough to know that, after thoroughly checking us out, our HomeHub was the problem and I wonder if BT knew that the old hubs may have this problem but don't rush to help you if they can save the money by having to replace your hub to a nice new black one!  The engineer instructed to phone the call centre again and tell them that they had to send me a new hub.  I did ring and by now, probably because of me moaning, my call was diverted to the BT Priority Care Team who, once they were involved, sorted out it all out.  They said that my hub was not compatible and was out of warranty as we had had it so long.  I told them I was not going to pay for a new hub  as their network upgrade had caused this.  They totally agreed and within two days a nice new black hub arrived via Royal Mail, I plugged it in and hey presto, we have internet.  The BT Team then called every day for a week to make sure we had no problems.
So don't be fobbed off with engineers and call centres telling you to reset buttons etc etc.  YOUR HOMEHUB does not work with the new upgrade and it is for them to replace it with a new one with no payment due from  yourself.  Hope this all helps and stick to your guns.

  • Trying to Get the Network Upgrade Cost Down...

At my work, we are trying to choose between Dell and Cisco for our network upgrade.  Dell has got Cisco beat on the price and a lot of the specs too.
    Our current setup:
    Core:
         Cisco 4510
         1Gbps copper to servers
1Gbps fiber to 4 network closets (including our server room)
    Networking Closets:
         2-4 switches per networking closet (3560s, 3550s, 1x 2960, 1x 4507)
    Our needs:
    Core:
         10Gbps fiber to networking closets
         10Gbps copper to servers
    Networking Closets:
PoE ports for all users' phones (computers will connect through phone)
Redundant links to the Networking closets
What we were planning (our quote included all of the FET and SFP modules):
    Core:
         7004
         N7K-SUP2 (Qty. 2)
         N7K-F248XP-25E (Qty. 2)
         N2K-C2232T8F-E (Qty. 3)
    Networking Closets:
2960 (Qty. 3 per networking closet (including server room))
         Stacking modules for the 2960s
Our plan is over budget by a decent amount.  Nothing huge, but we won't be able to get the budget extended that high.  We were told that Cisco would come down from their initial price a little to help fit our budget, but they didn't budge a cent.  We had a conference call with a Cisco rep. yesterday and he just talked bad about Dell 90% of the time.  They didn't help us and they didn't offer us a better solution.  They just said that we can't afford them.  Dell has been much more helpful.
I have never worked with a Dell network, and I'm not particuarly thrilled about the idea of it, but Dell is nearly half of the price (including warranties and and a training class).  I want to go with Cisco, but they aren't helping us at all.
Does anyone out there have an idea on making the project cheaper?
    Thanks!

I image the big ticket item is the Nexus 7K core.  What about a 6500 or 4500 core?  In fact, if your 4510 is an E chassis, you might reuse it.
I see you also mention using 2960s in the server room.  If so, instead you might reconsider reusing the 4507 you also mention.
Also if the 4507 is an E chassis, and the 4510 is not, depending on your 10g port needs, the 4507 might be used as your 10g core.
Of course, a Nexus 7K offers tremendous bandwidth and performance, and a huge number of 10g ports, plus some other features unique to the series, but what do you really require?  Reason I ask, you have one of Cisco's top notch data center devices, but then you're using 2960S stacks?

  • BT Network Upgrade - I'm Disappointed

    Hi Folks,
On 19 January (2010), I received an e-mail from the BT migration team informing me that I was to expect a network upgrade on 22 January. Then, on 23 January, I received a further e-mail from BT saying that the network upgrade had been completed. That was 13 days ago. I was told that my broadband service would be improved from 'up to 8Mbps' to 'up to 20Mbps'.
Using the BT Speedtester online service, I just checked my download speed and it measured 1704kbps, i.e. a mere 1.704Mbps. This is the same (give or take a few kbps) download speed that I was getting before the network upgrade.
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement!
Has anyone else had a network upgrade - only to find that it didn't make a scrap of difference?
    Anon
P.S. I should perhaps add that my modem/router is left switched on 24/7.

The upgrade was the technology that the exchange uses to connect to the outside world.
The cable between the exchange and your premises is still the same cable and has not been modified in anyway.
Therefore you will still get roughly the same speed as the speed you recieve is decided primarly based on the length and quality of the cable you use to connect to the exchange.
if you were getting a full 8Mb on an up to 8Mb service, then you would get more speed.
This is how rate adaptive ADSL works, and until you are on a Fibre product, is how it will likely remain. It allows you to connect at 'whatever the line is capable of up to a pre-determined limit or 8 or 20 or 24Mb.'
What you might get, is a peak times you may get a little more throughput, ie not as restricted when downloading files/browsing the web as the 21CN network has a bit more capability than the 20CN network.

I want to upgrade my iCloud storage, but as  I'm in Spain it won't accept an English card! Is there any other way to upgrade or change country?? Please help!!!

    Andy,
We are currently in the same situation as you.  Seems we have been "Spoofed",,,, e-mails "TO" us and also sent "From" us.... Both to and from using our old <xxxxxx.mac.com> address.  We are getting about 15 of the e-mails a day.  All from some version of "Med Store",, "Great Medical Store",, "Erect Meds Cheap",, and other variations of same.... Each one has a different "Link" in the text, but we never launch them.
The amazing part is that for the past six weeks they all indicate that they originate from a different address.  Some foreign and some from US addresses.  So, we cannot write a "Rule" banning the originating address.
We did write a "rule" that send them to "Junk" and forwards each one to <[email protected]>.
Anyway,,,, we are ready to change our address, but are in the same "can't be done easily boat" as you.
Seems we have to start all over and establish an entirely new Apple Account.  (Our old one will remain out in cyberspace forever)..... Seems strange.....
Our reluctance remains with stuff like our Calendars, Notes, iTunes, Apple Store purchases, etc......
We have posted questions here and on MacRumors, but seem to never get good answers.....  Most say just "live with it" and maybe it will stop.
And like you we found out about using Alias' to late... shame on us....
Very confusing and frustrating.....Still open for any input....
    Mike

  • Exchange "network upgrade" has reduced my speeds

My exchange has just had its "network upgrade" (according to the emails I received)  and I would be grateful for some technical info. I presume this is 21CN (router says G.992.5 annex A).
I'm using a HHub 1.0. I haven't taken any action myself about any upgrade or new contract. I'm out of contract at the moment, on the old Option 3 Broadband with BBTalk and BTVision (no packages).
The exchange work was done about about a week ago according to the email, although there were internet connection problems for a fortnight before that. It's halved my IP and download speed. I only discovered that was the problem when I got the upgrade emails.
1 - how long does it take to settle down after the inbterference of the conversion?
2 -Is there anything I can do to recover what used to be a good solid synch under my old ADSLMax, at double what I have now? (I used to get an IP solidly above 5000 and very stable connection)
3 - does the IP profile and synch rate adjust on its own (with 21CN) , without restarting the router or reconnecting the line or should I try a restart every couple of days? Which will give me the best chance of getting a better IP profile over time?
4 - Do IP profiles get "stuck" on 21CN like they sometimes did on ADSLMax?
Does anyone have any technical data references about 21CN - presumably all my current BRAS profile/IP Profile tables are now out of date?
What sites have good information and  support on this please? (preferably 3rd party ones).

Thanks - that is the table I was looking for, and I'm assuming it still applies to 21CN.
According to the table on that link then, I should see a profile increase, as my last synch (3643/711) was above the upper range (3392) for my current profile (2500). My last throughput was 2357.
I'll try and be patient and wait!
Unanswered question - does the higher rescynch and hopefully IP profile increase, happen without a user router restart?
Anyone know WHAT the 21CN upgrade actually is? What it entails? The available BT information is incredibly vague? Seems to be about babies reaching for the sky and world class consumer experiences.
