Network users beachball lockup. Only a power button turn off will work.
Hey Guys, I was wondering if any one else has noticed clients that all of a sudden star to beach ball and nothing can break it. You can not remote into the machine or even get in through SSH terminal access.
The only way out is to do a full power down.
These are 10.6.5 clients and I have noticed that most of the time it is happening on mini's and not the iMac's.

On initial install Office will install Fonts specific to itself in /Library. You can manage Office for networked users by dropping in the relevant .plists into the Preference Manifest for that Group. Assuming you're managing by Group? If you don't do this then when Users login and on first launch of any application that's part of the Office Suite, the Office Assistant will install those same fonts into the Users' /Library/Font folder. These fonts can and do cause conflicts with the ones already installed /Library folder. Font conflicts are notorious for causing exactly problems you're seeing as well as - in some cases - Kernel Panics on logout.
It's more than possible it may not be any of this but it's something you can quickly check and eliminate as part of the troubleshooting process.

I watched a video on my iphone, and it worked fine.
I wanted to watch it on our MacBook for sound and clarity, and every time I accessed it, it locked up. To the point that the only solution was holding down the power button.
Everything else worked, and I could freely enter information and open other Facebook entries, but when hitting the "play" button or clicking on the video it immediately bought up the spinning beach ball, and would never clear. Any solutions?Did you try viewing the video in a different browser? Firefox or Chrome maybe?

Your system was released back in May of 2007 so I suspect you've had it for a while. I know that the CPUs have self preservation modes that will react if the processor gets overtaxed. Try cleaning out the system with some of that air in a can stuff. Blow out the heatsink and processor fins and make sure there's not a lot of dust around the vents and inside. Make sure it's got plnty of air flow into the box. When the fan goes crazy it's the system trying to react what it feels is an excessively warm temp inside. It can also happen when you've got a lot of different programs running that strains the system. The information on the webpage for your system (See here) reflects a base memory of 3GBs If you want, another GB of memory might help the system if it's a 32Bit OS or as much as 8 if it's a 64 bit system. ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

UCS C220 server power button turns "Amber"
Hi All,
We have a UCS C220 server on which we are running CUCM 9.1 and CUC 9.1 and all of a sudden the server's power button turns amber and everything goes down. We would have to physically turn on the power button and access the VMware and start all the services.
Please advise.

BhavnaHi, I have the same issue, I just install a new clean CUCM 9.1 and CUC 9.1 in UCS C220 with pre-installed esxi 5.1, I leave the clients site the last Friday and today say to me that the servers is down, just turn on the server and everything comes back, in the vmware logs the only error that show is "2014-05-18T15:31:00.802Z [3DAE2B90 error 'SoapAdapter.HTTPService'] HTTP Transaction failed on stream TCP(error:Transport endpoint is not connected) with error N7Vmacore15SystemExceptionE(Connection reset by peer)" but I saw that error in the log before I installed this site the last May 5, anyone have a clue of what I have to look. Of if this error could do a crash or reset in the system.

After updating to 8.1.2 my iPad continues to restart. I tried resetting all the settings and this didn't work. I tried rebooting by holding the start button & power button and it didnt work either. The problem has actually worsened. I can no longer use my iPad.
You need to restore the iPad.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If that will not work, you will need to use Recovery Mode to restore.

My iphone 5 power button doesn't always work. I have heard this is an issue and Apple will replace it if under warranty, but I have a broken screen. Will they still replace it?
It is unlikely but you can atleast try they might set it up for free but expect an email about paying 269 for physical damage

If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents – the text, please, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post "shutdownStall" or "hang" reports.
If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all. -

Power LED Turns Off and pc Hangs
Hi,
During the last few weeks i've been having some problems with my system.
1. While playing games at a certain time (not always the same time) my power led turns off but my system does not turn off. Instead it just runs very slow and any audio, software and the mouse pointer is constantly lagging until i restart it.
2. After problem 1 while restarting it takes a lot of time to shutdown and hangs at the Windows is Shutting Down screen, so then i'll have to press the reset button.
3. The system also rarely instantly turns of without going trough shutdown and even more rarely it resets while scanning the RAM at the BIOS.

The instruction page says to go to the Advanced menu option of ITunes and choose Home Sharing. This option does not exist. The closest I can find is under the File option>Home Sharing where my only option is to turn off home sharing. There is no home sharing icon and Apple TV insist that the home sharing is not turned on.

ITunes disables Power Options- Turn Off Monitor
If I just run iTunes on my Windows XP PC my monitor no longer turns off after the "Control Panel->Power Options->Power Schemes->Turn off monitor" time period has expired. The monitor stays on contiuously. This issue exists even if I exit iTunes. I need to manually go into control panel and reset the "Turn off monitor" setting.
I suppose there might be a reason iTunes wants to disable this when it's executing but how about putting this energy saving setting back they way it found it when I exit iTunes.
Is there a way to do this?
