Network with WIN XP - PRINT SHARING

Hi All. I have a brand new Macbook running 10.6. I am on a wireless network with a PC running XP which is attached to an HP officejet 4300 MF Printer. I have enable print sharing in XP. I can see the printer on the Windows Network on my Mac. I have even installed drivers on my Mac for the remote Printer. However, I am unable to send a print job. Any ideas? Thanks.

You need a CUPS printer driver in order to use the standard CUPS print comm protocols (Windows Printing/smb, for example). The driver from HP is for USB only.

  • Script to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks

Hi, I am trying to find a way of using a batch file or vbscript to disable Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks on a Network Interface Controller.
I've done some searching on the internet and I can see some suggestions to locate the Setting ID of the NIC and then remove the value from the "Bind" string under "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Linkage" and "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Linkage"
I tried this but it didn't seem to uncheck itself from the NIC properties under NCPA.cpl
    Can someone help me?

  • Problem with file and printer sharing

I just installed a Linksys WRT54G to replace a D-Link wireless router and cannot reestablish my file and printer sharing since replacing the router.  I had file and printer sharing working fine before installing the WRT54G.   All of the computers are running either XP Pro or 2000 Pro.  I have two printers attached to one of my computers that I was previously sharing with all of the other computers on our home network.  One is attached via a parallel port, the other via a USB port.
Here's what I've tried so far without success.
    1.  The IP of the WRT54G is 192.168.1.1, and the IP's it assigns to my LAN computers begin 192.168.1.XXX.  The old IP of the D-Link was 192.168.0.1 and its LAN IPs were 192.168.0.XXX, so I've gone into my firewall and changed the settings for the range of trusted computers to correspond to the WRT54G's IP addresses.
    2.   I've tried uninstalling the printers and reinstalling them, including reinitializing printer sharing.
    3.  When I try to use the Windows  "Add printer" wizard to add a networked printer, it can see the computer that has the printers attached, but it does not see the printers.
    4.  I haven't fooled around with the file sharing settings, but they've all be lost too, so I suspect there is a common problem for both printer and file sharing.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.  I don't know what would be different about the WRT54G that would cause this problem.

  • Connecting to windows 7 home network for file and printer sharing

    Hi,
I just bought my first Macbook pro (13" 2.66ghz w/ OSX 10.6.4) and it is my first apple product. I was under the impression that it would be able to connect to my home windows network so I could file & printer share. So far I have only been able to connect to the internet wirelessly but have been unable to connect to the home network. All the online help keeps telling me I need to turn on windows sharing but where they tell me to look there is every other type of sharing but windows sharing. Can anyone help?
    Adam

On the PC, right click on C: and when the Properties window opens click the Sharing Tab and then check 'Share this drive/folder'
On the Mac open System Preferences/Sharing check File Sharing in the left column then hit the Options button across right, check the third item "Share files and folders using SMB (Windows)"
Then on the Mac Finder Desktop top menu bar select Go/Connect to Server and in the window that pops open enter smb://nameofPC and hit Connect - another window will pop open asking for the username and password of a user on that PC box, once you enter that you'll have the PC appear on your Desktop and can browse it with the Finder.

  • How to set up an HP6122 on home network with Win 7 laptop?

HP6122 works when plugged into laptop USB port.  Can't get it to work when it's plugged into an XP computer on the same network.

Have you install the necessary drivers for the printer on the computer with XP??
The best thing is to use a jetdirect. I have bought a cheap jetdirect e3700 on ebay and connected it to a Linksys router. I can use it on linux without any driver (hplip package only) and on Windows it needs just a printer driver. You don't have to even plug the printer into a pc through an usb port with the jetdirect card..

  • Printing on an established network with a linksys print server and an HP

I am really tired of this. After 4 months of searching through discussions, I still cannot get my new Mac Pro to print to my HP printer on a linksys print server. • I have the Itunes.msi file it asks for, but what network are they talking about as I am not on a network with WIN XP SP3

When I try to install the newest Itunes, I get a message saying that it cannot find Itunes.msi.  I have that file in the Apple updates directory and I point to it.
After hitting enter, it comes back to the same question with the implication that I am not on the right network. I am not on any network. Please help

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Hi,
It seems that some of the windows setup files are missing. Do the following things in order.
    1. Uninstall the hp software either going through Start->All Programs->HP->Officejet 8600->Uninstall
or from the Start->Control Panel->Add remove features
    2. Now go to temp folder.. start->run-> and type %temp% and click ok.  Now delete all the files from the temp folder
    3. Restart the computer
    4. Download the latest software from hp.com

    downsct, welcome to the forum,
are you using Access Connections by any chance?
There is a setting in Access Connections which can influence file and printer sharing. If you look at the profile's further settings, there is an entry for network security, file and printer sharing needs to be activated.
I think this is a great feature of AC as it will override the windows settings, you can choose to allow or block in each profile; e.g. allowed at home, but blocked at the Airport or Hotel.
    Hope this helps

  • Networking with PC

I am trying to share files and printers with Windows XP from my iBook G4. I have both firewalls off, windows sharing on, and neither computer can find the other. I am using a D-Link router to connect the iBook wirelessly, but I have also cabled straight into the router with no success. When I attempt to connect via "Connect to Server" and type in the IP address, it will not connect at all. I cannot ping the PC from the Mac, and don't know how to try it from the PC. I have made sure that the workgroup name is the same on both computers, but I can't even get the window up where I put the workgroup name and password. I have "Network Magic" from D-Link installed on the PC, and it does show my mac under the router in the network map, but it is not showing in "My Network Places". When I try to add a network place with the IP address from the Mac, it doesn't work. Also, my iBook can connect wirelessly to the internet through the router successfully, so it is technically on the network, but no file/printer sharing is working. Please help.

This is how it should work:
    On your Mac:
    -System Preferences
    -Network
    -Double Clic Airport
-Go to the Apple talk tab
    -Select "Make AppleTalke Active"
    -Press "Apply Now"
    -System Preferences
    -Sharing
    -Acticate "Windows Sharing:
    -Go to "Enable Acconts"
    -Select your user name
    -Enter your password
    -Press Oke
    -Press Done
Now you shoud see in the same screen:
"Windows users can access your computer at \\__.___._________"
Enter the exact adress mentioned there in Windows at Internet Explorer.
Now you get a log-in screen and can acces your Mac!
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem.

  • How to deal with token Windows machines with regard to file sharing

We have an office of about 12 Macs, but we have couple of token Windows machines too.
Each Mac user has their own username and password for logging into there machine/server, administered by a Standard setup of Mac OS X Server (Server Preferences).
The question is what should I do with the Windows machines on the network with regard to file sharing and authentication? They don't need individual accounts; they could just have general accounts, but I don't know how to set them up with regard to the server.
Do I simply need to make sure that the username user to log into the Windows machine is a user on in Server Preferences?

    {quote}
Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permission. The network name cannot be found.
Except that I've got the other machine connected with no problems.

  • OS X Server 10.3: Can't enable printer sharing

We are trying to share a printer connected to a OS X Server, but there is no entry for "Printer Sharing" under System preferences > Sharing.
I thought perhaps it was because the printer service wasn't started. When I go to server admin and select print service and click starts ervice, nothing happens and nothing is entered in the log. Other services (e.g. FTP) start and stop fine.
    Thanks,
    -e

I refer to 10.4 here but may be just as applicable to 10.3... Much of the vanilla OSX setups are still available in Server but Apple have just chosen not to make them available. You can access the vanilla settings by 'fooling' the server (on startup) into thinking it is juat a plain OSX System. I have done this successfully for USB printer sharing...
    cd /System/Library/CoreServices
    sudo mv ServerVersion.plist oldServerVersion.plist
Restart and you will be presented with the 'std' OS X login screen. USB printer sharing is now available. Configure this as required and then reinstate the oldServerVersion.plist and restart to return to server.
The shared usb printer will continue to function.
Needless to say, this is a bit of a 'hack' and I do not know if there are any side-effects. However, I have used it successfully myself and it runs fine even in conjunction with the server printer sharing.

  • Printer Sharing with Mac on a Windows dominated network

    Hey guys,
So basically, for the past few weeks I've been trying to get my printer connected through the network so I can print wirelessly. Basically, from my research, I need to get my Mac connected on the "homegroup" of the Windows network. However, when I try to connect, it asks me for a username and password. My computer doesn't have a password -- and I don't want to put one because it's a shared computer. Is there a default password? Or am I forced to put a password on that computer?

    rversed wrote:

If a Windows computer was sharing the printer that you want to connect to, then this would be the correct action to take. But if the printer is networked, either wired or wireless, and not shared by a Windows computer then you could connect your Mac directly to the printer if you connect to the same network.
As for the "homegroup" this is a WIndows only setup introduced with Vista. Your Mac cannot connect to a homegroup. So do mean workgroup?

When you want to connect to a Windows shared printer you will get prompted to enter a Windows username and password before you see the shared printer. So you do not enter your Mac user details. Have you been provided with a Windows account you can use?

  • Printer Sharing with XP Machine

I have Windows 7 RC, 64 bit loaded with an HP Deskjet 5150 Serises printer that I want to share with my XP machines. I've worked through all the other posts to get the file sharing working (same work groups, network discovery on, etc.) Now I went to the screen to turn sharing on for my printer which I did. Then I went to the additional drivers screen, clicked on the x86 box and pointed the search box directly to the proper folder on my HP driver disk. An error box comes up titled "Selected printer driver not found", with a message of "The specified location does not contain the driver HP Deskjet 5150 series for the requested processor architecture".  I double checked to be sure I pointed at the "/win2k_xp" folder on the driver disk. Then I downloaded the latest driver from HP but have the same result.

OK I have this figured out now. Turns out that Windows 7 requires the names of the printer in the .inf file to match exactly the name Win 7 has stored. Win 7 had my printer as HP Deskjet 5150 series and the .inf file had it as HP Deskjet 5100 series. I just went into the .inf file and changed all the instances to the correct name and got by that stumbling block.
As a further note, I was then stuck because the wizzard would not accept the XP ntprint.inf file. I found a solution for that as well. I copied the entire ntprint.inf_xxx directory out of a Vista OS into the directory where I had the printer driver stored and pointed to that directory. Everything then loaded and my printer sharing is now working.
