Network won't hold settings on startup

Since downloading 10.9, my network upon startup is always on wifi. I have to reset it to DSL and restart my router. It stays on DSL after sleep, but returns to wifi after a restart or a cold start. I just downloaded 10.9.1, and with the new OS, I have the same network problems. Also my preference for a backup disk, and I have a Lacie for the time machine, also doesn't carry over on a restart and has to be reselected. Never had any of these issues before downloading Mavericks. Has anyone else experienced similar issues and if so, how did you correct the problem.

I can't offer any solutions off the cuff, but I do agree that rebuilding is not the correct fix. Yes, it can work sometimes, but somewhere there is a solution that will work.
I don't ever update my Airport firmware unless I have a specific reason to - going by the idea that if it's not broken, don't fix it. In order to test, I'd wire into your cable modem/dsl, then test the settings through the wireless connection. (Set the service order to use Ethernet over the airport.) Reapplying the most recent patch might help since you won't need the router in the process of re-updating.

  • 7D won't hold settings

    Hi,
I have a 7D that will not hold settings. It used to without any problem. Canon installed the most recent firmware update and I now seem to have problems. I don't know if the update caused the problem or if the timing is coincidental. ISO, f stop, exposure, C.Fn. 3 (1and 2), AF mode, Drive Mode all will not stay set if the camera is turned off. This is a real pain. ISO reverts to 640. fstop reverts to 6.3. Exposure reverts to 1/40 sec. Cfn 3-1 reverts to 0. CFn 3-2 reverts to 0. There may be others but this seems suffecient do demonstrate a problem.
I don't get error messages indicating that I need to change the clock battery. I can't find anything about this in the manual. I'd appreciate help if anyone can offer some guidance. Thanks.
    Sincerely Laura G.

Does it retain the date/time?  The clock battery is a CR1616 "coin" battery.  Canon claims it has a service life of about 5 years.  The 7D was introduced about 4 years ago (but I realize your camera may be much newer).
It seems like it should not need replacement yet, but this sure does sound suspicious.
Page 251 of the 7D manual shows the location of the coin battery and how to swap it.  It hides in the side of the main-battery compartment, near the compartment door hinge.

  • Ipod 80g crash/won't hold settings/won't restore

Out of the blue my 80g classic (which I've only had for a couple of months) hung. I reset it. It came back up with the welcome/language screen, all factory settings, but "0 bytes used, 0 bytes available".
Vista sees it, and wants to format it (but then says I don't have permissions).
I load iTunes, and it doesn't come up on the side control panel. After a few minutes iTunes will hang, and then if I unplug the iPod it un-hangs.
Then after I unplug the iPod, sometimes iTunes says there is an iPod on the machine that needs to be restored, yet there isn't, it's not plugged in. Whether I plug the iPod back in or not, the "summary" screen with the restore button appears but then immediately disappears, as soon as I click "ok" on the message that it needs to be restored.
I am unable to restore the iPod through iTunes due to this.
I can get the iPod into the disk mode. Using disk mode doesn't change my ability to have iTunes see the iPod/restore it.
    I've rebooted, I've uninstalled and re-installed iTunes.
If I change a setting on the iPod (such as backlight, or the date/time) and I reset it goes back to the welcome/pick language screen as if it was out of the box. And still it says "0 used/0 available".
I've run every single troubleshooting tip on the web site and off the internet that I can find.
Suggestions? Anyone? (There are no service centers/Apple stores anywhere near me to go in to).

So I spent over two hours with tech support (my one free call, so from now on, I'm on my own), and talked two two separate people. It was determined that the iPod cannot access the hard drive, so my brand new (purchased 8/24/08) is going back to Apple. I'll likely end up with a refurbished one. I'm told that it isn't like "most refurbishes" and it won't be "someone else's used iPod". I'm not convinced, and it just isn't fair. There's no reason for it to fail all of a sudden. I have it in a hard shell case, and I've never dropped it. So that is basically $250.00 for something new, down the drain. I might as well have gotten a used one off eBay for $50.00. *shakes head*

  • New Airport Extreme network won't hold stream to Apple TV

(I thought about posting this in the Apple TV forum but I think this is more appropriate here.)
For months I had a network configured in my home that included two Airport Express base stations. My cable modem plugged directly into one of them (in my office) and then both computers (G4 desktop and new laptop) shared internet, etc. via wireless. The other base station was in my living room to extend the network.
Upon getting an Apple TV many months ago, I began streaming my iTunes library that is stored on the G4: tens of thousands of files. I used this means of employing my Apple TV and listening to my music just about *every day*, for months. Streaming was always smooth -- never a hiccup, never an interruption, and I was thrilled by this new way of accessing my collection.
Recently, however, I replaced the office Express station with a new Extreme station, thinking it would possibly make the network faster as I could now connect the station back to the G4 via an Ethernet connection, now at least having one computer on the internet via a lined connection rather than wireless. And the new network works well in that aspect.
However, I can no longer stream any music to my Apple TV. It sees and accesses the library as it always has, but now just about every song gets choked up and drops the stream, no matter how I reconfigure the network (channel, transmit power, multicast rate, etc.).
Does anyone have any advice regarding how to make my network stable again so that I can resume streaming? I'm very disappointed that a major purpose for my Apple TV has been eradicated despite the fact that I thought I was actually upgrading.
Other factors could include the fact that within this time both the Mac OS software (10.4.10) and iTunes (7.3) have been updated by Apple. (I also wonder if the new Extreme station is too sophisticated for my G4, which maybe can't keep up with it, thus the choking?)

    Such as
    1) A network config issue. The G4 is still trying to
    use Airport.
I have Airport shut completely off on the G4.
    2) A software issue. The G4 is running a process
    which is slowing it.
I don't notice any odd processes in Activity Monitor.
    3) A hardware fault. The G4 has a hard drive with
    errors, causing retries.
There are no notable errors on the drive but the whole process of accessing my iTunes library seems plodding and inefficient. The beach ball comes up a lot when accessing new parts of the library in iTunes.
    Do a disk check.
I ran a disk check and defragmented not very long ago, so it should be okay.
Make sure software update is up-to-date. Reboot it.
I really thought today's iTunes 7.3.1 update would nail the problem, but it didn't... After 30 seconds, streaming stopped, Apple TV went back to menu.
Check Activity monitor for network speed, and
    unwanted processes.
Nothing seems out of the ordinary.

  • I-tunes won't hold settings

I recently had to reload my hard drive. I reloaded I-tunes and everything seems to work well except every time I log out of I-tunes and go back in it starts back at the set-up screen and any settings I had changed revert back to the default settings. I tried re-loading I-tunes with the repair files but it didn't work. Any suggestions??

  • Color space setting won't hold

My display setting for the color space won’t hold.  I’ll set sRGB (Control panel/Display/Change display settings/Advance settings/Monitor Color) close the dialogue and all is well for a nonspecific period of time.  At some point the sRGB setting will deselect.  I’ll reset it but the cycle goes on and on.  Has anyone had this experience or know the whys and wherefores?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I had a similar problem with my T410, using Windows 7's Calibrate Display under Color Management in Control Panel and I found two critical issues with keeping color calibrations (profiles) active. The first involves setting Windows up to use the profile and the second involves preventing the graphic card's applications from resetting and loosing the color calibration.
First, in order to get Windows 7 to use your color profile, it must be associated with your display in Color Management under the Devices tab. Also, two check boxes must be checked; the first being Use my settings for this device on the Devices tab and the second is Use Windows display calibration on the Advanced tab. This second check box will remain grayed out until you click Change System Defaults and then clicking the Advanced tab.
It is my understanding that color profiles generated by display calibrators can be loaded and handled by Windows in lieu of the third-party loaders. The following link will shed more light on this use of Windows to load the profiles:
    http://www.pusztaiphoto.com/articles/colormgmt/win7/default.aspx
Secondly, the graphics card's user interface modules seem to constantly re-set the video card thereby loosing the color calibrations. These may be disabled under the Startup tab in MSCONFIG. On my machine, I disabled three Intel® Common User Interface items: igfxtray.exe, hkcmd.exe and igfxpers.exe. The following links may shed some more light on this:

I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch (5th Gen) Battery Won't Hold Charge

After the last update my iPod Touch 5th Gen will not hold a charge. I haven't had any problems with it until this 8.1.1 update. Yesterday I charged the battery up to full charge and  used it briefly to listen to music in my car however here it is the next day and the battery is dead again. It is NOT playing while not in my car. Meaning nothing should be running the battery down because it's not being used.  I know it's not playing because the volume is set to half way so I'd undoubtedly hear it if it was playing.  It just won't hold a charge and for no apparent reason. Any suggestions?

I put it back to default. No overclocking. I agree about the CD/DVD is a generic term but the motherboard disagrees with you. Also when I "save change and reboot and go to Change setting info my DVD is disabled and is not set to first boot and there is no place to change it. The boot disk I'm using works fine on other computers and I also tried another DVD drive but the BIOS just isn't letting me boot to my DVD?

  • My new ipod touch 3g won't hold a charge. The genius bar reset my old one twice and it still wouldn't charge. They gave me a new one but it also runs out of power overnight. They suggested that I might have a corrupted file somewhere.

My new ipod 3g won't hold a charge. The genius bar reset my old iPod thinking that would solve the problem. It did not. It continued to discharge over night. They then thought I had some corrupted something, somewhere, but did nothing about it. They gave me a new iPod. It however is also discharging. If I do have a problem somewhere, why doesn't it affect my iPhone, which never seems to need a fresh charge. Please advise.

Unfortunately, I am somewhat of an expert on this issue.  The problem is with the Charge design.  I'm very sure Verizon & Samsung know all about this defect in the hardware  The issue is with a hardware switch that gets stuck and drains the battery.  It seems to be connected with the camera part.  I have exchanged my phone like 5 times, hoping for a better outcome... same problem each time.  Finally, when it was out of warranty, the only solution left was to do the hard reset thing, thereby losing all your programs, etc. You will notice after the complete reset that everything works fine for awhile, until you do something that triggers that switch, which I have tracked down to the camera.  If you don't use the camera, no problems.  One big clue, for me anyway, was when the problem is starting, I lose access to my SD memory card apps.
I HAVE managed to recover my phone just a few days ago without the hard reset, as JCO23 mentioned above.  Remove your memory card, restart your phone.  When the phone is fully booted, insert your memory card, and it will "mount" just like during startup.  Then go to your apps and delete a few at a time.  btw, it might crash during this process, in which case you need to start again.  keep removing apps a few at a time until the only apps left are the ones stored on the phone itself, not your memory card.  You will notice it is now stable, at some point.
I'm also sure by now, you've gotten the usual Verizon response to buy a new phone.  I can't wait... I am tired of resetting my phone and losing my apps all the time.

  • I just bought a new iPod touch, and when I sync it, it won't hold anything.

I just bought a new iPod touch. But when I sync it with my iTunes library, it won't hold anything. It just says syncing, and when its done, there is nothing on it.

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Did you initiallysetup the iPod via wifi?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?

  • Wifi won't hold connectivity

I'm reading over other comments but haven't found a solution yet. Our MacAir won't hold the connectivity or automatically find the wireless network. Once we click wireless at the top of the screen and it turns on, we can count to 10 and it will jump off again. Causing lots of frustration. The router seems fine as I'm not having any trouble with my Kindles, nor the other 20 iPads in the cart under the MacAir. We are currently running OS X 10.8.5.  One forum suggested deleting some files in Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration (specifically:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist)
Then reboot. Didn't work. Before I go too much further and really cause issues, please advise.

We reset the MTU to 1454. So far, so good.
