Networked Music Library - How to refresh multiple machines' library window?

I want to have my iTunes music library on a network hard drive, accessed by multiple machines.
But, if I add / rip new tracks into the library, only the machine that ripped the tracks knows they are there. The others are oblivious to the new tracks.
How do I get the other machines to automatically check the library to see if any new tracks have been added, and add them to their respective library windows if they find any?

Interesting question! And, one that I will use often, so I did a test.
My main library is on my iMac, my travel library is on my MBP. Once back home, simply choose File:Import:Library/Project. Now browse to the MBP (file sharing must be enabled), and select the travel library & import. I did NOT have Aperture running on the MBP during the import.
It works quite well.

You can't delete the Photo Library. The iPhone stores photos the same way iPhoto does on a Mac. All photos are synced to your Photo Library. The various albums/folders merely contain pointers to the actual photos which are in your Photo Library, they are not duplicates.

Simply:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the Other Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

How to Create Multiple Partitions in Windows?

I have just carried out a clean install of Lion then used Boot Camp to install Windows.
With Snow Leopard I had the ability to create multiple partitions in Windows but this seems impossible in Lion for whatever reason.
Can anyone please tell me how to achieve this?

How to use multiple machines in final cut?

hey mates, i've got a g4 ibook (1.33, last rev) that i use at home. however i'm starting to do more and more side projects and would love a way to cut down on the beastly render times. can someone share how to set up another mac (old g4 tower) as a dedicated render machine? or at least point me in a direction where i could get some help. thanks, cheers.

I have tried several times to do this with Q-master and i didn’t really work for us. I talked with an apple genius that used to work for us and he said that it would not be beneficial for what we get out of it. I know i wanted to get an xrade but it was about what 7,000 and i just dont have that kind of money. But you may want to look into that if you have it. Well just thought i would put my two cents worth.

Advice on how to run multiple machines

Hello.
Here is what I'd like to do....
Main Aperture Library on my MacPro.
Secondary Aperture Library on my MacBook Pro.
When I travel... import photos to my MBP and begin sorting/keywording/editing.
Once I get back home, transfer images including meta data to the main library...
Any suggestions???

Device sync to another itunes library- how do I find that library

When I go to sync either my ipod or ipad it comes up with"this device is syncd to another itunes library"- but it was working a week ago, altho my computer has had a few restores. I don't want to lose all my apps and music and resync to this library but I have no idea what library the ipad and ipod are meant to be syncd to, this is our only computer???
Can someone help, guessing the answer could be quite simple, but when it comes to computers so am I.

What that means, is the iPod is synced to a specific itunes database file.
C:\Users\~username~\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
If you didn't make a copy of that file before you restored your PC, then it's gone.
You will have to start over with all your play lists, play counts, ratings, etc.

How to upload multiple video with windows explorer view

In SharePoint 2013, i found that directly uploading videos to library will result in wrong content type for these videos. I have tried in both asset library and document library which use video content type. When i upload video using explorer view, these
videos are configured to use "document" or "audio"content type. Without "video" content type, i can't watch the video using browser such as Chrome. Is there any way to upload multiple videos to SharePoint 2013 library using "video"
content type? Otherwise we need to upload them one by one.

When using multiple upload, the Default document type for the library is used. If you create a video library that only has the Video content type installed and set to default, then the videos will have this content type applied.

How to use Multiple Homes on Windows Box for patching

Reading an Article by Arup Nanda 04.23.2007 talks about using multiple oracle homes for patching. We've installed oracle again and now have 2 Oracle Homes (db_1 and db_2). If I look at my service startup for the database I see this:
c:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\bin\ORACLE.EXE TestDB.
If I try and start my database out of the db_2 install I'l receive errors about the init file not being located in the db_2 location. Should I copy all my files from db_1 over to db_2?

How to refresh a view/viewset/window manually

Hi Experts,
I have a applcation that has a viewset containing 5 views.
From one of these view I click on a button and it opens a Window as popup.
After closing the popup, I want to disable the button so that popup cannot be opened again and activate SAVE button.
Now here is the problem. I have all the coding in my wdDoModifyView, but its not triggered.
I know that we cannot call wdDoModify view manually.
So is there any workaround by which the complete window/viewset is refreshed on closing the popup, thus triggering the wdDoModifyView.

Hi Shubham,
Can't you make use of events to achieve the same? Create an event in your component controller, subscribe to that in the parent view, write all these code in that event handler and then trigger this event when you close the pop-up window. I hope this would serve your purpose.

Installing iTunes and signing in does not make your media magically appear on the computer.
The media is only where you put it.
To move the media from your old computer to your new computer, you need to copy the iTunes folder form your old computer (or the backup of your old computer) to the new computer.

How to sync iTunes libraries on multiple machines without copying music

Background:
I have 4 machines running iTunes 9, all authorized with the same account. All music is on a networked storage device (NSA). Each iTunes points to the NSA for music files. Each user on each machine has their own local iTunes library for individualized playlists, etc. When music is purchased, regardless of machine, it is automatically downloaded onto the NSA. We have deselected the Advanced preference "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library". Our goal is to have one live copy of our music rather than multiple copies sprinkled about all 4 machines. We do periodic backups of the NSA.
Question:
How do I get all the iTunes user libraries on all 4 machines to automatically reflect new music purchases? The library of the purchaser is updated just fine, but no one else's is. The Home Sharing Settings option updates the library, but it also copies over the music, defeating the purpose of one copy.

When I first moved to OS X I decided that all of my/our music should be in one library, with one Apple ID for purchasing/playback and iPod syncing, located someplace other than each user's home folder. Using an alias of the destination folder worked as long as we were all on one machine.
Later when we acquired a second machine the setup was similar, except that the library was on an external HD attached to the newer/faster machine and accessed over our home network. The drawback of this method is that the machine with the library on it has to be up and running (of course).
We've finally moved further into the digital world by purchasing a network drive (NAS to be precise - a My Book World II for those who wish to know), upgraded our router and network switch to GB, and have a third iMac on its way (thank you eBay).
All of our music (the library we started years ago), all of our pictures, and other miscellaneous things reside on the NAS, which is also used for TimeMachine backups (on the non public volume). The idea being that any of us can access any of the media or documents as we need or want to.
Apparently (or I've missed something simple) Apple, in their wisdom, doesn't believe that a setup like ours (and apparently others as well) should exist. That each user and/or each machine, should have their/its very own music library that no one else can have FULL access to.
Home Sharing doesn't allow what I/we've been setting up from the first day we added music to our library. Sure it lets everyone with their own library to listen to other's library's that are up and running (i.e. the machine is on, and iTunes is running).
What we want to do is have all of our machines (the two, soon to be three, iMac's and one PC running XP) access the *same library* with full read/write/burn access AT THE SAME TIME! Hence the logic in purchasing a NAS. What we can't do is have iTunes running on more than ONE machine at a time since the other network users/machines receive this message:
The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.
Which is certainly not the case since each user/machine can access, read, write, and burn from the above library at will as long as they are the only person doing so.
Changing the permissions on the library file doesn't stick (probably because its on the NAS), otherwise I would have done that and you wouldn't be reading this.

How can I "refresh" my iTunes Library? I recently moved my library to an external and made the source folder change in preferences. My library now shows all exclamations asking me to locate the files. What is the quick fix to locate or "refresh" all?

Your response here seems exaclty like the answer that I need. My logic board broke and I had to get a new one. Sent to Apple and all is working again. I didn't have an super recent time machine back up....my last one was 2 months old. I was able to salvage my music from the computer before sending in for repair and when I got it back, I reloaded my music file onto my machine. I use iTunes match so maybe that kept many of my files/playlists etc in order. But my iTunes is asking me to download many songs that are showing in iTunes and are in a folder in iTunes. These are songs I downloaded during that 2 month break between time machine backups. I think a refresh will fix this issue. But when I follow your steps above, I not certain what file to choose. I tried to go to my itunes ---> itunes media ---> music but that doesn't work. Do I need to choose the "iTuens Library.itl" file? I use my playlists for my job so I don't want to just guess here and lose everything. I did do a backup of my playlists so hopefully I'm protected if something happens but just want a bit more guidance on this. Thank you for your help and your time and let me know if you have any questions.

Sharing Library across multiple machines

I have a shared network drive in my house and want to have multiple computers (two Macs and one PC) all have access to the same library. I have all of the machines pointing to the same mucis folder so that is not a problem.
I would like to be able to add music to the library from any of the machines but then be able to update the individual iTunes screens to show all of the music in the folder.
After putting in several hundred songs and going to each machine and using Add Library (Add Folder to Library on the Windows PC), I now find that I have duplicated the MP3 files in the album directories. The iTunes screens on each computer only shows the songs listed once but the files are duplicated.
There has to be a way to do this without duplicating all of these files.

there is no auto-sync feature build-in into iTunes.
As a workaround when adding/importing music put those tracks on a seperate playlist (or use a smart playlist) and export this playlist to a shared folder.
Then import this playlist on your two other computer.
To avoid dupes disable in iTunes Preferences Advanced "Copy files to iTunes Music Folder ...."

Time Machine is capable of backing up to multiple locations, and can be used to back up to both a local hard drive and a networked drive (provided that that drive is in or connected to a Time Capsule or another Mac that is sharing it over the network). The catch, though, is that you can't specify different things to back up to different destinations. Whatever you exclude from Time Machine backups is excluded from ALL backups, and whatever is included is included on all.
So, get a large enough drive that you can back up everything you want in all locations, or use something else for maintaining the network backup.
