Networked Officejet Pro 8600 - One PC lost track of the Printer part

On 9/23/13 my main PC stopped being able to print with my Officejet Pro 8600n. Everything had been working fine, then nothing. That PC can still scan with the 8600, but cannot print. Of course, I swear that I have "changed nothing." :+)
The problem persists whether the printer is connected to the router with a cable or wirelessly.
My #2 PC can still print with the 8600 as it did before so I know it's still capable of printing.
The HPPSdr utility is bad crazy, claiming that the problem PC is not connected to the internet when it IS connected.
When I try to analyze this, I get:
- The network is working correctly. Other PCs can use it to print, the problem PC can use it to scan.
- The 8600 is connected to the network. Evidence is the stuff that it still does do.
- The 8600 is in good working order. It does everything it used to do, just not from every PC.
- This seems to leave a bad driver or something like it in the problem PC. Why didn't the 99 re-installs that I've done fix this?
I've Googled this problem and read a LOT of defeatist posts griping about Microsoft and HP. I've read about Miracle Cures from running HPPSdr, but didn't experience one myself. I'm concerned that so many have complained of problems like this but there's no commonly known fix.
I looked at Windows Restore Points on the problem PC and found that they only seem to go back to 9/23 (?). The notes for service applied on the 23rd at 3am mentioned an HP module in the Affected Modules box. ??? I clicked "Show more Restore Points" but it didn't.
I hope that somebody can square me away on this one, or at least get me started.
Thanks in advance!
:+)

No luck from turning the firewall off.
Ditto for the power sequence.
I wonder if there is a procedure available to COMPLETELY uninstall my HP Officejet Pro 8600n from the offending PC.
I have deleted the printer and tried re-installing from the CD. Also tried from the downloaded latest install package. I'm used to this, as over time one or another of my HP printers has disappeared from a computer. Until this time, it's been a nuisance (but no more) to get them back.
This time, when I try the "Add A Printer" route:
- The "Searching For Available Printers" window opens and the printer is displayed with its correct TCP/IP address (192.168.1.103)
- When I click on that printer and then click Next a window titled "Detecting TCP/IP Port" opens and tells me "Detecting the TCP/IP port...Windows will automatically move to the next page when the detection is done."
- The next page is titled "Additional port information required". It tells me that the device is not found on the network, and to "be sure that
  1. The device is turned on. (It is)
  2. The network is connected. (It is)
  3. The device is properly configured" (It is. Remember that I can print here from other PCs.)
  (there's more...)
The weirdness goes on from there. I end up with a screen that says good installation, but when I try to print a test page, it won't. (Printing - error)
I have screen shots of the entire procedure in PDF form. I'll post them if somebody wants to see them, I also have screen shots from a run of HPPCdr.
My PC is a Lenovo desktop running Windows7 with current service.
My router is a Linksys EA4500.
Now what?
Thanks again.

Sorry that you are experiencing this problem. Here is a link that may assist you with the ink system.

It seems to be a bad print head, or it needs manually cleaned with lint free cloth and water. If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact HP Support (1800-474-6836).

  • Re: HP Officejet Pro 8600+ "There is a problem with the printer or ink system..."

I've had mine for a year and a half. All new cartridges. Called HP - they said I probably need a new printer, of course.
I have an Office Depot guarantee that's still good and an HP warrenty  that's good until 2017 - that's how paranoid I am about HP - but both want me to send the printer back. This will take weeks. I am so leery of HP Printers, I kept the box behind my couch since July, 2013!
What printer should I go for next? I noticed HP is not selling the 8600 anymore. I've bought printers EVERY TWO YEARS since 1999. Epson sucks, Brother sucks. HP ink is outrageously expensive. Any ideas?

Thanks for asking, Bob. Prepare for my screed: Saturday night, I was on the phone with an HP tech, Andre. After an HOUR, he told me he'd have to transfer me to another support team which he couldn't access because HP was updating. He said the update would take EIGHT hours. I called back to get another opinion, and that guy said only TWO hours for the update, call back at 9 a.m. EST. I called and was told SIX more hours to go, so Andre was correct. Andre said he would call me back at 6 p.m. EST. He did not call, but when I called HP and asked for a supervisor, he told me that Andre had called me at 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon. He lied. I have caller ID on my phone and on my TV. No call from Andre.
The supervisor then transferred me to "one of his best people, she went to college." Okay, he was right, Ann was exceptional, but she made me do everything I had already done six times: unplug, take out the cartridges, take out the whole printer head, put them back in - nothing. She said that HP could send me a new printer by the next morning, which I thought was very optimistic, but things were looking up UNTIL she transferred me to Cindy who said NO NEW PRINTER just the printer part. I said I had three more years on my warrenty which cost me $47.00 and I WANTED A NEW PRINTER BECAUSE THE 8600 IS A CRAPPY MACHINE THAT HP DOES NOT EVEN SELL ANYMORE AND THERE ARE NO LESS THAN 55 COMPLAINTS ON THE HP FORUM. There was smoke coming out of my ears, I'm sure.
Cindy stuck to her guns and I asked for HER supervisor, but that person/department doesn't work on Sunday. So, I have to call back after 8 a.m. EST Monday.  I will NOT accept any offer except an ENTIRE NEW PRINTER.  I paid $25 for a warrantee from Office Depot, which is where I bought the 8600. They went out of business - just across the street and joined another company. They are now Office Max and the closest store is an hour from home. So, I have paid over $70 in warrantee fees and I'm not accepting just a part that might last only a year or so like this one did. How do they know that the printer itself isn't ruining the printer head? They don't. I also asked for all new ink. There $100 worth of ink in this piece of crap and I don't want to lay out another $100 to replace it.
I've had two PCs since 1999, but this is the FOURTH HP printer that has pooped the bed. I got an Epson when I bought my Dell PC in 1999, which I replaced with an HP.  I bought a new HP PC in 2011 and I've been through THREE HPs and ONE Brother. I got an HP printer THREE times for this PC. When I did my due diligence, I saw that the HP 8600 was selling in some stores for $300, so I thought I was set with this machine. I turned in my old, dead HP to Office Depot, got credit, which I put into this machine. That was in July 2013. What a scam these people have going. This is called PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE, and the public is aware. I HAVE HAD IT!

  • Paper jams when being faxed on my HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

When I go to send a fax, the paper goes in until about half way then the right side begins to wrinkle the paper and jams up.  I have tried several things to fix it but no luck.

Welcome to the forums HerkDia  ,
I have some suggestions for you to try for the problem you're having with your Officejet 8600 Plus jamming the paper when you fax.
    Check out these guides:
Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One
A 'Paper Jam' Error Displays on the HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer Series
The Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) Does Not Pick Up Paper
Update the firmware: Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
If the steps do not help any, I would lastly recommend calling HP to inquire about a replacement or trade in.

Touch the front panel and use the back arrow if needed to get to the home screen.  Next touch the four ink droplets at the top right of the screen, then touch "Print Report".    Items 12-14 will be the total pages, color pages and borderless pages printed.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus Paper Tray Jammed crooked in printer

Paper tray is jammed crookedly in printer.  It will not come all they way out of printer and will not completely close (remains 1 1/2" Exposed.  How do I remedy?

Hello @LadyLou1, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing jam issues.  I'd like to help!
I would recommend starting by removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest following the steps laid out in this document:

  • Missing HP Utility (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus); need to reinstall - cannot uninstall printer software

I had to wipe my iMac and resinstall IOS Mavericks (10.9.5).  Printer (Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, 9N11g) is working, but will no longer scan (double-clicking icon results in "original item cannot be found") and the HP utility icon on dock is missing, replaced with a "?."  I located directions to uninstall printer software so I can reinstall... but there is no longer any HP folder or "HP Uninstaller" on my Mac HD.  Neither is there an HP folder within Library/Printers folders.  Spotlight search shows no HP or Hewlett-Packard folders on my hard drive.
I have downloaded an "HPPPrinterDrivers3.0.dmg" and "HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg," one of which I'm hoping will contain updated software/drivers to reinstall the printer and hopefully the HP Utility so I can regain scanning function, but I cannot figure out how to remove the current printer software, and I do not know if those are the currect files to use.  I understand just deleting the printer will not suffice.
Can anyone provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the software as well as installation (since I am unclear if I have the correct dmg files)?  Thank you.

    Hi,
First I would suggest repairing the disk permissions, then try reinstalling the HP Software.
Follow the steps below to repair the disk permissions:
    1. Open the the Applications folder.
    2. Go to the Utilities folder.
    3. Double-click on Disk Utility.
    4. Select the hard drive containing the boot volume.
    5. Go to the First Aid tab and select Repair Disk Permissions.
Note: This process may take several minutes depending on the Mac and amount of permissions that need to be repaired. The Progress Log will indicate when the process has been completed.
Once you are done, run the HP-Injket-SW-OSX-Mavericks_v12.34.37.dmg file and follow the steps on screen, be sure to select the HP Scan option while installing to get full functionality of the software.
Please try the steps above and let me know the results,
    Shlomi

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 - Anyone have a solution for the 8600 freezing up?

I bought this All-In-One for xmass and the initial install went fine.  I've attached it to my wireless network for use by all the PC's/Laptops in my house.  After a couple of weeks, I noticed that the printer connection was lost, and when I tried to scroll through the printer menu, I discovered it was frozen or locked.  I could not even get it to turn off with the power button.  The only way to regain access was to unplug the printer.  Once it's back up, it seems to work for no more than 15-20 minutes, and then locks up again.  I thought it was a faulty machine so I returned it to store for a replacement.  The second printer acted the exact same way.  It worked fine for a couple of weeks and then began freezing up again.  I'm going to return this one and just get my money back if I can't get this resolved.
I did see another posting about this, but the resolution did not work (re-install software on PC and return printer to factory settings).
Has anyone found a solution to this issue?

I'm on my second 8600 within 2 weeks - tonight I stumbled upon a *possible* glitch that may have caused both printers to freeze. I did not have my wireless connection set up but I did have the wireless enabled on the printer - the blue wireless indicator light on the console was flashing. This printer repeatedly froze, requiring the power cord to be disconnected/reconnected to reboot the printer.  At some point I disabled the wireless, using the console menu and the machine no longer froze. WHAT???  When I restarted the wireless and completed the setup, the blue indicator light went solid and...so far no freezes.  I can access the printer via wireless connection and a USB connection on a different computer.   IMO, this should not happen.  I'm thinking if my router goes down, it will cause a wireless connection failure and the printer will freeze - again.  I will test this theory when I feel up to it - but, the frustration of the past couple hours has me very disinterested in screwing with it now - it continues to work so I think I'll go fishing....

  • How to unpause a HP Officejet Pro 8600. It is connected to the internet

We changed from a PC to Mac Mini and when we did the tech evidently paused the printer Office Jet Pro 8600. I need to unpause it so I can print from my Mac laptop.( I was able before the change)

    Hi rinnhome,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that your Officejet 8600 appears to be paused when you try to print.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus....poor photo printing

    Hello,
The printer above seems to print grainy photos on Kodak photo paper. My old Canon MP830 printer (whose scanner broke but can still print) seems to print superior photos with no noticeble graininess. I am using best quality settings in both cases. I would have expected a much newer printer to print much better than an old broken Canon one. Is this a known issue with the printer?
    Thanks

There are a few things to check.  What paper settings are you using?  I would suggest you try setting "Other Photo Papers" or "HP Premium Plus Photo Papers" rather than leaving the setting on Automatic.
Be aware that the Officejet 8600 uses pigmented inks which may not be compatible with some photo papers.  You might try HP Advanced Photo Paper.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus Make Audio Sounds In the Early AM Hours Recently

My Office Jet Pro 8600 Plus has been making audio sounds usually around 4:30 am lately , but has also done it sometime after midnight also. The sounds will activate somewhere between 2 or 3 times every few minutes to 2 or 3 times in a minute. This will continue for about a half hour. It's been doing it for several weeks now. This is when the printer is not being used, and is a low power state. When I'm trying to sleep.  During this time the display screen does not come on and remains dark. Once I got up from bed and touched the screen to activate it to see if there was some kind of message, there was not.
What's causing this to happen and what can I do to stop it. I've had this printer for 2 1/2 years now, and this is a fairly recently problem.

    Hi @darrel112
I realize this may be a strange question, no more strange than the sound you are hearing I suppose, I was wondering if you could describe the audio sound for me?
Knowing the type of sound that is occurring may help me to identify the cause. While I wait to hear from you, something to consider is the printers power source, is the printer connected to a wall outlet or a surge protector/ power bar?

  • HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP - can't connect with the printer driver (but web browser works)

    Hi,
I used to own an 8500 pro which got replaced by the 276dw due to HW malfunctioning of the old model. I installed the driver (full set, win 8.1 64 bit) from the HP download area over the installed printer. I can access the printer using it's IP address. Ipad Airprint works well. The only problem is that I can't get the printer driver to connect to the printer, but the printer driver displays the printer with the correct address. Print and Scan doctor detects incomplete install and download 184MB, one bit at a time ... it will take more than an hour.
I believe - due to a message that something needs to be stopped during the install (in order to get rid of the SW for the old printer) - that this thing is stil stopped, and I need to restart that (or if it is a service I need to reset it to automatic start).
    Any idea anyone?
    Thanks and with best regards,
    Holger

update: The Print and Scan doctor did not help, but I finally added the printer using the default windows method. So I can print, but scan to PC obviously doesn't work, and neither does the Fax printer. Help still appreciated.

  • On my hp officejet pro 2000 wireless, how do I find the "printer code" so I can set up eprint??

printer is installed and working well, but I want now to set up eprinting so I can print from my ipad.  i have installed the free app on my ipad, but seems I also need to enter a printer code to set it up.  the 2000 does not have a screen so I cannot see any info there.  How can I discover the printer code?

How old is the printer? I am not finding any support paged for the Officejet 2000. Here is a link to a document that goes over the supported printers for cloud services. There is a dropdown for HP Officejet products, click on that drop down and it will produce a chart that will show which models are capable of ePrint and other cloud services. I hope that this helps.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 - Can't remove canceled job from print queue

    Hi there
I canceled a print job from the print queue, but it refuses to budge! Everytime I try to remove it, I get this message:
I can print other documents, but it's very irritating having this here all the time (and a big red blob on my dock icon announcing a phantom print job).
Can anyone help me rid myself of this spectre of print purgatory?
    Cheers!

Try downloading and running the HP Print and Scan doctor. This software is able to remove phantom print jobs for you automatically. The program can be downloaded from here.
As well, for Windows based computers, restarting the computer can also help with this issue oftentimes. Hope this helps.
