Networked Unitor8mk2 & AMT8 losing communication a lot...

Hey Guys,
I have a Unitor8mk2 and an AMT8 networked together as one 16-port interface and they've always been rock solid - until recently. The computer seems to lose communication with the AMT8 (the slave of the two - the Unitor is the one that's directly connected to the Mac). I have to turn them both off and back on for the computer to see them both, and that's getting old.
It almost seems like a random software thing or a conflict somewhere - the hardware hasn't changed at all, and has been installed in my console for years.
Any thoughts? I've removed any other MIDI drivers to eliminate any potential conflicts.
Thanks so much...
Jim

More specifics:
My setup is
Mac Pro via USB to first unit (Unitor 8 MkII)
Unitor 8 Mk II via RS422 to 2nd unit (AMT8 #1)
AMT8 #1 via RS232 to AMT8 #2
AMT8 #2 via RS422 to AMT8 #3
Using Unitor 8 control (version 3.1), and both before and after having replaced EmagicUSBMIDIDriver.plugin with a fresh install taken via Pacifist from the Logic Studio DVD's (hassle-y little project in itself), it finds the unitor and the first AMT8. No matter hwat else is done, since two evenings ago, AMT8 #2 and AMT8 #3 are not found. Howver, hitting the panic button in Unitor 8 Control lights up the expected buttons on all four units. Also, hitting the Panic/Patch button on the Unitor as well as the first AMT8 (#1) lights up the expected LED's on all four units, while hitting the same buttons on AMT8 #2 and #3 lights up only its adjacent neighbor, but not the Unitor and the first AMT8.
Thus there is a possible electronic explanation: whatever carries signal from the latter units in the chain and past the #3/#2 "barrier" is faulty. Doesn't sound impossible, though it does sound unlikely. In other words, signal will flow from the mac and outward, and also outwardly from the two units closest to the mac, but not in the opposite direction. Obviously it still can be software, which doesn't make for pleasant pictures. And regardless of how pecuniary or anti-MIDI Apple seems to be, their having designed a killer patch, set to go off on a certain date, just to eliminate the last vestiges of the Emagic hardware legacy seems unlikely, since it would probably be discoverable.
On the cables not being able to be faulty, or more correctly the connectors, oxidation is a fact regardless of mechanical issues, so it isn't entirely impossible. I have some DeOxit and ProGold around, and might do some dabbing if less extreme approaches yield nothing more...

I want to set up my time capsule on a completely new network & location without losing the old backups. How do I do this? I cannot find anything in the user manual.

The TC is very hard to just move.. it retains too much of the old network setup.. buried deep in the bowels of the firmware configuration files.. or even on the hard disk special partitions used by the TC.. invisible to you btw.. !!
Do a factory reset and setup from scratch.
That factory reset will have no affect on your backups.. even if you rename the TC.. not a bad things since you also want clients to respond to the new network.. simply reset TM to the new TC name and location.
    See A4 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
    Factory reset.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
    Factory reset Gen 5
Hold in reset for about 5sec until the status light flashes quickly.
If your AirPort Time Capsule still doesn’t respond, do a similar reset to the Gen1-4.
Unplug your AirPort Time Capsule .. hold in reset and power the TC back on.. without releasing the reset.. wait until status led flashes rapidly.

  • SCCM 2012 - Network requirements for Client communication to primary in a Cross Forest Environment

Hello, I have been trying to get some definitive answers on what network traffic is required between a client and a primary site versus a secondary in a cross forest scenario.
    Here is the scenario:
Company A has an existing SCCM 2012 primary Site. Company B (Separate Forest) has now been brought in. One subnet on each side can route to each other and using that one subnet a two way forest
trust has been setup. But the remote offices have IP address overlaps between companies. At some point in the future all assets on company B will be re-IP and brought over to Company A domain. But in the interim it would be nice to get SCCM cross forest clients
working. Upgrading to a CAS model with two Primaries would not be preferred here as this is a temporary solution.
    My questions are as follows.
If a secondary site is deployed into Company B Forest/Network. I have seen people online elude to that clients will still need to communicate to the Primary located at Company A, even though they
are assigned to a secondary on Company B’s network. Is this true? Is there any workarounds for this? Is a NAT back to the primary acceptable, or is reverse lookup required?
Will the Primary need to communicate directly to the clients in Company B? If this is in fact a requirement, then this would be a show stopper. But if its only needed for things like client pushes,
then we could work around it.
    Thanks

"But the remote offices have IP address overlaps between companies"
Technically, this is unsupported because clients, depending upon your boundaries, will not be able to find a local DP since they use IP addresses for this. The only way to work around this is to use AD Site boundaries.
"though they are assigned to a secondary"
Clients are *never* assigned to a secondary site -- that's not what secondary sites are for. Yes, clients require communication with an MP in the primary site where they are assigned. There is no way to change this or work-around this except to put
an MP from the primary site closer to those clients and use the new MP affinity option in R2 CU3.
Reverse lookups are only used to verify names by applications that wish to have this type of functionality (which are very few in number) and have nothing to do with true network traffic. NATing is an issue for the reason I gave above -- DP location.
Remote control, client push, and WoL won't work either because there is no way for the traffic to reach the destination behind the NAT.
All client *agent* communication in ConfigMgr is client initiated in ConfigMgr (remote control, client push, and WoL -- as just mentioned -- are sort of exceptions to this but they don't really involve the client *agent*.)

  • ADE Network requirements - License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:

Oh the joy and bliss of DRM'd training material. From my Android I can access the SAP training manual, however, from my work desktop I cannot. ADE is installed, my account activated, I have downloaded a free document (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes). However, when I try to load the training manual, I get this error:
"Unable to download. Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem: E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:"
My theory is that ADE is attempting to access a server through our proxy / web content filter and is being tripped up. I would like to view some log files, understand the network requirements, etc. in order to properly formulate a request to have our network configuration adjusted to permit this content.
ADE Version 1.x had the option to turn on logging (Ctrl-Shift-T, enable logging...) however, in version 3.x, Ctrl-Shift-T does nothing.
    Any help is appreciated!

  • Logic / OS X randomly losing communication with firewire devices

    Hi
Connected to my MBP I have a Lacie FW drive with an Apogee Duet daisy chained to this.
During a Logic session yesterday all of a sudden I received device removal (warning) messages for these two items although they were still connected to the relevant ports!? I also had to force quit Logic following this.
When I reconnnected the devices were recognised but things were still not right as when I tried to change the volume on the duet the system was very slow in responding.
I was running of the battery power but this has never happened before whether connected to the mains or the battery.
    Any ideas/should I worry?
Everything seemed fine a couple of hours later when I restarted the system but I am uneasy about the potential for this to occur during a more important session.
    Any advice greatly appreciated
    Cheers
    Sam

    Hi Sam
I have an Imac, same operating system as you (10.5.8) and also the Duet. Also got a Lacie external hard drive. i have also encountered this problem in the last week. however, I have had this problem in both Logic 9.02 and Record so it seems it isn't just a Logic problem.
One question - was Airport on when you lost communication with your hard drive? My was and when I turned it off the problem has not occurred again. It may have something to do with it although I'm not technically minded so I wouldn't know why.

  • 3502i keeps losing communication with WLC 5508

    Hello all,
This problem only seems to affect one of our sites.  Every once in a while, several APs would lose link to the 5508 and get stranded.  The only way to fix the issue is either to power cycle, or better yet SSH into the APs and use the command "capwap ap controller ip address x.x.x.x", and then they'd automatically rejoin the controller.  At first, I thought network hiccups caused the APs to lose connectivity, but there's none that I could find.  I have the primary/secondary controller IPs configured in them as well.  See log below:

I have only had this issue a few times but what I end up doing is factory default the AP. I also end up uploading the rcv image and deleting the other images in flash. I do some beta testing so it could be that the images get corrupt, but that has been my fix. The AP joins and then downloads the firmware from the WLC again. It might not be what you want to do, but maybe if its an issue with a particular AP you can test it out.

  • Losing communication with DAQ devices - help greatly appreciated

    All,
I have been working on a VI whose function is the following:
    - Acquire data from three sources
         - A block of eight displacement sensors connected via RS232 (using a USB adapter)
         - An NI-USB 6210 card measuring voltages across eight batteries
         - Another NI-USB 6210 card measuring voltage across four load cells (these correspond to batteries one through four).
         - Data acquired at 1 Hz, written at 0.2 Hz (no buffer - simply writes one fifth of data recorded)
    - Open/close a relay board based on certain inputs
    - Provide basic UI functionality to control data manipulation, display data, and write data to text files
    - Write data to text files
We have run four tests with this VI.  Each test runs for anywhere from 24 to 48 hours.  During three of these four tests, we have lost connection with one or both of our NI DAQ cards.  I have attached one of the output files - notice that in the 'Current (mA)/Voltage (V)' and 'Load (N)' columns, at a certain point on of the cards starts reading 'NaN', followed soon after by the other card.  Note that this has happened on two different computers, one laptop and one desktop, both of which had hibernate/sleep disabled.
For your reference, I have attached the VI.  This VI will not run as there are some subVIs that I have not included; these subVIs do not do anything critical to the execution of the program.  The program generally runs as follows:
    - Initially, a subVI runs that aids the user in selecting the appropriate COM port and USB devices.
    - The VISA device and DAQ cards are initialized, all relays are opened, variables are initialized
    - In parallel, there are two producer timed loops, one consumer for loop and an event loop
         - One producer loop continuously acquires voltage data from both DAQ cards.  When the loop is over, basic DC voltage values are taken from all samples in each buffer, and the values are enqueued
         - One producer loop acquires one reading per loop from the displacement sensor (via a VISA Write -> VISA read), and the response string is enqueued.
         - The consumer loop runs at a similar timing as the producer loops (blocked using queues).  It manipulates, displays, and records acquired data. It also opens relay channels if the corresponding displacement values are greater than a set threshold.
         - The event loop opens text files for writing when a button is depressed, as well as performing basic tasks such as clearing graphs, etc.
What is the cause of this issue?  What am I doing wrong?  This error is preventing us from running tests at our company.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Bryan

    Wayne,
Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately, my knowledge is limited in this area.  We are using an ADU208 USB relay from Ontrak (information here: http://www.ontrak.net/ADU208.htm).  We are using the bundled subVIs to open/close each channel of the relay depending on the acquired data.  How could this relay board affect the DAQ communication?
It may also be important to note - I have tried to make this VI so that all devices need not be used all of the time.  That is, sometimes we choose to not use the relay, sometimes we choose to not measure load, and sometimes we choose not to measure current.  This means that we do not always have the same hardware connected, but the software runs the same and deals with the resulting errors appropriately (hopefully).  The previously attached output file is from a test where the relay was not connected, however the relay commands were still run (and presumably threw errors).
    Thanks again for your help

  • Controller setup-losing communication

I'm using a Yamaha DM1000 as my mixer and control surface. I'm using it's USB output. It constantly loses communication with Logic and I get the annoying "please power cycle" error message. I've tried disabling the active sensing in the controller setup page, but that doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Anyone else have similar trouble using a controller?
I also have a Frontier Transport that uses USB, and I don't get this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

    Well ^($#(@!!!
I thought swapping the usb port took care of this but I'm still get the "lost communication" error!!
There are some active sensing options in the controller setup pages. Anyone know how to disable the constant checking.
This is really frustrating Sometimes it seems to lose communication when I switch apps, but sometimes it just does it on it's own.
When it's working, it works great so I don't think it's a setup issue as much as a Logic or systemwide usb active sensing issue.

I am experiencing the same problem aswell, every time I try to burn different Verbatim DVD-R or Maxell DVD+R at different speeds 2x 4x or 8x I get the same error code 0x80020022
I tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM and some other suggestions mentioned in this forum, but none of the worked.
I just bought my new intel iMac, two weeks ago, and never tried burning a dvd before today. My drive specification: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846
Updated my system to 10.4.7 on the first day I got it.
I am trying to figure if I should try something else or just return it for repairs...

  • What should I do if my Ipod Touch keeps losing charge a lot?, What should I do if my Ipod Touch keeps losing charge a lot?

My Ipod touch (3rd generation I believe) keeps losing charge really fast after I charge it and when it's charging the apple symbol keeps popping up.  Also, when I plug it into my computer it doesn't show up on my iTunes.  What should I do?

    Start here.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
When you get iTunes to see the iPod try the standrd fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing wil be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
You could have a bad battery that needs replacment.  I can't really tell since you did say how long the battery lasted.

  • Network gaming - Choice of communication technology

    Hello
I am attempting to design an architecture for a game client and server. I am looking for the most suited communication technology for this situation, Terms like TCP, UDP, HTTP/SOAP, JMS and RMI come to mind. Here is a short summary of the technical functionalities that the communication should have.
    - Users should be able to enter the game on the server through a custom-made client application, either local on their computer or retrieved just in time from the web.
    - Users should be able to send actions (choices that the player makes, e.g. moving, interacting, ...) to the server, which the server receives, interprets and processes depending on the game's state. These actions could return zero, one or several reponses over time to the client and possibly to other clients involved in the action, all of this depending on the action and the game's state.
    - When the server triggers an event, connected clients related to the event should be informed as early as possible. This can happen at any time between the client being entering and leaving the game on the server.
    - Users should be able to leave the game on the server.
What communication technology should I use for such a situation, or which direction should I go to?
    Thank you for your input.

Your question is so open-ended I basically conclude you are starting here. All of those technologies you mentioned are available and may or may not fit your needs depending on your further development of your game.Okay well I do agree that he should Google it first and ask more specific questions, but how are you helping him by saying that? Give him something to look up! I mean if he's asking this question he probably doesn't know anything about it, so why are you saying "look it up" on, as you said, such an open-ended question?
I would suggjest looking up all tutorials for Java Server/Client connections and look for anything involving "java.io"It's actually very simple when you don't know enough about what questions you need to ask, then that should shout something--you need the fundamentals, and that may need to be actually, of all things, investing some time and money into upgrading your technology--buy a book, get small examples, think about it more on your own, but you need to get a foundation so you can at least understand what you want to know.
Rather than give that person a list of everything or many things-they should take a step back and actaully start investigating. We live in a time where such an incredible amount of information is instantly available that almost nobody is willing to do research before they get started--they just jump and and say: hey, teach me to swim I'm in the deep end now, I've got about 3 minutes before I drowd--so teach me.
Do some looking, get a clue, then formulate a plan... take action on that--notice all of those require self actuation, not give me and by the way explain all that stuff that I need to know before I can understand what you are going to say.

  • MBP losing 'communication' with printer!!!!!!!!!

    Hi
I don't seem to be having as many printing problems as many people but I do have one recurring issue.
Often when I try and print a document nothing happens, if I check the printer icon it says the computer has lost communication with the printer.
If I pause printing and then resume it ALWAYS prints perfectly.
This does not happen all the time but very frequently.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jeff,
I do not know what OS you are using but is it possible that the OS
scheduled tasks with higher priority threads start working after a periodic
interval. In such scenario freezing of your application is possible. Try
working with only systray, explorer in the background when your daq
    application is launched.
Another possibility is use of old version of printer driver - some HP
printers do not have Windows 98 drivers.
I worked with SCXI 1200 and the Chassis and had no problems on Windows 95 -
although I didn't acquire data for a long time.
    Hope this helps

  • I am losing communication to the FP-3000 every few days.

I am communicating to the FP-3000 via OPC. Every few days I lose communication to the FP-3000. The ready light has turned off. Rebooting the unit corrects the problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like the problem of I/O module. Make sure the I/O module is firmly seated, the terminal base is firmly attached to the terminal base on its left.
You may look for bent pins on the bottom of the module or between terminal bases (don't forget power down the bank before removing terminal bases).
You can also send e-mail to "[email protected]" for further support.
