Networking 3 macs - one connection not working?

I have 3 macs that are connected to a gigabit ethernet hub. I am creating a network to allow me to backup all the machine s to a single library tape drive using Bakbone Netvault.
As part of a problem solving solution, i have added the third mac (an old G4 with a completely fresh clean install of 10.4.11. I have done the software updates until there is nothing more to add, repaired permissions, downloaded and installed the Netvault Software, and have adjusted my Hosts file as i was shown when installing Netvault on a different machine last week (by Netvault engineer).
I'm now stuck because the G4 (which i am calling server) can only see one of the other two macs when i ping them. I have given the computers manually added ip addresses and the hosts file has the corresponding info added.
I can ping the server from the Quad, but i cannot ping the Quad from the server...i get an error message saying Host is Down.
The G5 Dual is able to ping both other machines and they can ping it in return.
I have set the firewalls with the ports recommended by netvault, but even with ithem switched off i am having the problem.
any suggestions how i can get these two computers to communicate?

it definitely runs on the Mac. The only reference you find n the site is when you select the product you want to upgrade (Client & Server Netvault) you then get an option regarding the OS you use.
It was recommended to me by the Netvault support (I was on the phone for 3 hours with them getting my two machines working properly - brilliant service!) that i load X11 and run the software from within the X11 environment.
However, because i am troubleshooting a kernel panic that i have been unable to locate the cause of (neither have the various engineers that the reseller has had involved, i have moved to the last resort of installing a third machine to act as a server.
I have been reading through the link , but haven't found anything yet.....

The router might be bad or incompatible, but let's be optimistic.
On System Preferences, go to Network/Advanced/PPP. Only two items should be checked: Connect Automatically When Needed and Disconnect when switching user accounts. Uncheck everything else. Now, click Okay on the end of the page. The next time you're online, you shouldn't be disconnected.
If you still get disconnected like before, we might be dealing with a router issue - which can get rather complicated.

MAC Authentication does not work

My MAC Authentication does not work.
I have a ACS 3.0 server set. the MAC address is set in the user name field and in the password field.
I can ping the ACS, I can ping my AP, I can ping my client.
I don't want WEP and I don't want LEAP just MAC. So I set my authentication to "Open with MAC" My client has WEP set to NO WEP and authentication to OPEN
I have the latest drivers for both AP and my 350 Client.
I see that the client is associating and disassociating back and forth non stop. My AP log is full with the following message:

Quite seriously, though, if you wish to use MS Office to it's full potential and if you depend on it on a regular basis, then upgrading to Office 2011 is the only reccommended way to go. You can use the free Apps mentioned, learn to use iWorks (which I love, but others don't) or make your system a shambles and lose your easy to use interface by the other method. Deduct the cost of Parallels from MS Office and it becomes pretty cheap, if that is the only PPC program you wish to use, which is the norm as PPC is long gone from development.
MS Office 2011 is not expensive if it is one of your major work tools. Think of those who had to update their Adobe software!

10.4.4 Mac Help does not work

I just upgraded 10.4.3 to 10.4.4. Now Tiger Mac help does not work. Other software help does work, at least those I have checked like Word, Safari, and a few others I have checked. But in the Finder going to help in the Menu bar does brings up the help window, but try to click a link like What's new in Tiger or typing a query into the search window produces nothing. All the software seems to be working fine, at least what I have checked. I have redownloaded and re-installed making sure virus software is off to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.

I tried the steps mentioned before, and thought I would give them one more try. Initially, I had success in that the Help Viewer opened to the default Mac Help view, and when I typed in a find term, lo & behold a list of results appeared! Alas, my visions of success vanished when I clicked on one of the results, then View.....nothing happened!
I returned to the main menu, and found none of the links would work, and neither would the search function!
It appears a link may work the first time, but none after that.
I also noticed that (repeating the Cache & Preference removal steps) that they repopulated with the files when Mac Help was initiated, and, as before, would allow one link acivation to occur, but none after.
I suspect there may be a conflict with some other applications Help feature, but made sure to activate ONLY the Mac Help with no other Application having been run after restart. The only other possiblity is that some toolbar non-Mac OS X help apps like Magic Menu, Quicken, & iPod conflict, but these are all I have!
If any one having this Help Viewer problem has similar installations, or knows of any conflicts with these; or, how I can temporarily disable/remove the associated help without uninstalling them, please post a reply.

Mac OS Help not working...

I have noticed something about tiger here recently, the mac help does not function....I thought this was the case after I upgraded to tiger 4.5 but appears to be related to tiger in general...it also appears to take place after I try to make one search in the search box. What happens is this...the Mac OS help window comes up, sometimes blank so I have to click on the home button for it to load the help links. When I click on one of the links that help item never comes up....I really noticed this when I did a complete erase and install of tiger yesterday. I wanted to look up help on DVD. When I did I was given results but if I clicked on them nothing would happen.
I have begun to look at help on other systems that has tiger and they all have the same result.
I even upgraded a sytem that was working fine until I upgraded to tiger and now th mac help does not work. the other help items work just fine just mac help doesn't.
I have run disk repair as well as fixed all permission but to know avail...Anyone else having this experience.

Well I have tried this everyway you can and the solution at least in tiger 10.4.5 does not work. The mac help does come up and it lists the links but when I choose look up by index and then select an alpha index the help breaks and then the links that did work do not...there is something else here that is corrupting the help file...any other suggestions...I am upgrading several systems to Tiger and I insist that people use help prior to contacting me. If help does not work then what....has anyone responded to apple or the moderator on this site....I will give it a day or so and if there is not response I guess I will have to go through tech support which is a nightmare getting something escallated because the usual answer is to reinstall the Os which of course does not fix this problem...

MAC ACL is not working

I want to block a PC (MAC address) from accessing a Router (Network) in a simple network as follows-
So, I applied MAC ACL to fa2/1 interface of switch.

But, still PC is able to ping Router. It seems that MAC ACL is not working here.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Dictionary.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Try opening the Dictionary app. If you don't see that dialog, move that .plist file to the Trash. Otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't help, see if there's any software updates available. Click your Apple menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update...

I was at my friends house, everything was working fine. I went to my girlfriends house, everything was still working fine. Then once I got home, I got back out my 2010 MacBook Pro 15" to use and some pages on the internet looked a little odd. They were all in HTML format and wouldn't go back (Pages such as Skype and Apple's main page). I thought they were just down or being fixed up, but then I went to update my Mac under the App Store. I clicked the App store and a message popped up saying "App Store cannot verify a secure connection with the App Store." The options were "Cancel" or "Continue". I clicked "Continue" so I could update my Mac, but weird enough, the App Store started flickering (strobing; blinking) as seen in this video by someone with the same problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De8aQZccRvA
I do not know what to do or why this is happening, so help would be VERY nice.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

It is almost as if the program does not exist on my computer. If I search for it, the only thing that comes up is the installer. I cannot find it anywhere despite the fact I have installed it numerous times, uninstalled it and conducted a fresh install, and the Adobe website checks says that it is installed.

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start, try this a few times if necessary. If still problem, you may have to just Restore your iPhone to get it working. In the future sync your iPhone with iTunes routinely and when it contains important data, iCloud when set correctly will do this for you continuously.

Try the tips here:
Get help with the slot-loading SuperDrive on your Mac computer - Apple Support
Especially holding the trackpad mouse button upon restart and resetting the SMC.
If it's stuck in there you might have to make a "guide" out of two thin pieces of plastic. Post back if that's the case.
