Networking G3 Running OS9.2.2 to G4 Running OS 10.4.4.

While I have used XPostFacto to run OS 10.4 on my 7600 with a G3 processor, and can network my 7600 to the G4 without problem, the G3 is very slow in 10.4, as one would expect.
I can see both each computer over the TCP/IP network if I have the 7600 running in 9.2.2, but cannot find a way to connect between the 7600 running OS 9.2.2 and the G4 running OS 10.4. I have tried entering the G4 IP address into the IP address connection under Appletalk in the OS9.2.2 dialog, but it will not connect to the G4 computer. I have "allow connection via TCP/IP" selected in the G3 computer's OS 9 dialog, but still cannot make the computers connect.
What am I missing?

  • Can't print from networked PC running XP

Hi. I have a Canon IP6700D attached via USB to my iMac. The iMac is running OS X 10.5.5.
Also attached to my network is a PC running Windows XP SP3. So both machines are fully patched up.
Printing from the iMac works flawlessly.
I want to be able to print from the PC so I have shared the printer, turned off the firewall on the iMac set up the printer on the PC. The PC can see the printer and I can send print jobs to it. The iMac can see the print jobs coming over but nothing ever prints. Looking through the logs on the iMac tells me that the printer has worked but obviously it hasn't.

Your issue could be due to the driver being used on the Windows box. Usually, you have to use a Generic PostScript driver on the Windows computer rather than the supplied vendor driver. This will restrict the options you have for printing but at least you should be able to print.

  • Slow network while running Archlinux

    Hi there,
Recently (and, that's the weirdest part, recently only) the network have been really slow. From what I see when I'm running Windows, I assume I actually only get a fraction of the speed I should get when I'm running ArchLinux.
For instance, when I'm alone at home, I have an acceptable connection with ArchLinux (though I still can't play online games : too much lag. I have to boot on Windows for that).
And when some roommates are here, I have an utterly slow connection which makes it barely possible to load a page from ArchLinux's wiki (though I can do it with Windows with no problem, and can still play online games with a bit of lag).
It's been lasting for the past three months, so I'm pretty sure it's no coincidence : there's something wrong.
I've been reading some pieces of the wiki and tried to find what's wrong with my configuration. I did find that the hostname from the rc.conf and hosts files were different, but changing that didn't solve the network problem.
    Here is my configuration :
    /etc/rc.conf

    # HARDWARECLOCK: set to "", "UTC" or "localtime", any other value will result
    # in the hardware clock being left untouched (useful for virtualization)

I tried commenting either of the DNS servers, without any changes.
I also tried with two different network daemons, NetworkManager and Wicd.
Is there something wrong with my configuration ? Is there something I can do to find out where does this problem may come from ?

Re-read this section on rc.conf and also cross-refer with the various items such as netcfg, as well as taking note of the single network approach and what you should do in #2 re: network daemon vs. your config with networkmanager:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rc.conf#Networking
Take a look at pdnsd as an alternative way to configure DNS lookups, also check out OpenDNS and Google's DNS as potential alternative nameservers so that you don't rely on your ISP's services.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pdnsd
    http://www.opendns.com/

Let us know if that makes it better.
NB: The DNS bit is an alternative approach that does not necessarily solve your issues though might be a desirable configuration.

  • XP/Pro box doesn't see other computers on network after running CiscoConnect on it

Got a new E4200 on September 13 to provide internet and networking to a small business network.
There are 2 wired computers, one an XP/pro and the other a Win 7/64 bit.  Both worked straight out of the box in that  both had access to each others' files after plugging them into the E4200.  Two other wireless computers were connected using CiscoConnect, one a Vista and the other a Win 7, and all was fine.  All computers were able to see each others' file. Also managed to get a wireless Canon printer working even though CiscoConnect wasn't able to find it.
After I realized I didn't run CiscoConnect on the XP, I did so using the USB key created on the Win7 box and the result was that the XP box doesn't see any of the other computers although all the other computers can see the XP files.  After uninstalling CiscoConnect on the XP and rebooting, the XP can't access the other computer files but it can still access the internet and the wireless Canon printer that CiscoConnect can't find.  Rebooting or powering off/on the router didn't change this state.
Would appreciate any ideas in getting the XP back into the network.
    Firmware Version:
    1.0.02 build 13  May 24, 2011

    Update on above problem:
Performed a System Restore on the XP and partial networking functionality was restored.  The XP box now sees the Vista and the XP Explorer can see all computers under  the Workgroup.  Probing the Win 7 computers from XP's explorer the XP returns the following: message
\\Win7a is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this network resourc. Contact the a...
This message doesn't mean much to me as I have limited networking experience but somebody here might understand this clue.

  • "The system cannot find the path specified" error when installing a network printer running Win 7

Some of the end users are having issues when trying to install network printers. We have created a portal where they can locate the printer they want to connect to, click connect, and the printer will download with the correct drivers on their PC's. The
entire company is running Win 7 for their operating system. One end user in particular has had issues installing multiple printers from the portal, when I go to test installing these same printers on my PC, they all install successfully. trying to figure out
why some end users hav issues with installation and others do not. They will get the error, The system cannot find the specified path. Any help would be great

    Hi JeffWilko,
    What is your current situation?
To receive better analyzation, please provide more details?
    1. Could you explain a bit about the sentence ‘installing multiple printers from the portal’ ?
    2. Check the event viewer and share us the related error log.
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Ping the printers
    2. Check if there are network firewall to block the access

I assume you're running nm-applet --sm-disable once you get a window manager session up?
Try starting networkmanager after hal. From the wiki:
You must also "disable" the default network daemon, and add the hal, dhcdbd and networkmanager daemons in this order:
    DAEMONS=( ... !network hal dhcdbd networkmanager ... )

  • Impact on physcial machines and network when running Capacity Planner.

I need to find a white paper or an app note that explains how Capacity Planner collects data from physical machines.  I seem to have been pulled into the middle of a squabble between IT staff members that has the manager halting a virtualization project.  I have a virtual server running the Collector for Capacity Planner for 157 machines discovered in the customers network.  The Collector has been working fine, I am getting the inventory data I need to get on all systems except one.  At the request of the customer, I disabled the host name mask so we could see real host names in the report.  I also disabled the WMI checking since it only worked on half of my customers machines.  Using the Registry setting has gotten the inventory on all machines except one.  This one machine (an email server) has very strict administration control that is preventing the Collector service user from connecting.  When my contact and I tried to gain the needed access, our project was halted because the email server admin report an enormous amount of connection attempts from the Collection server that caused an issue with the mail server (was never able to get specifics on the issue).  This caused the manager to error on the side of caution and halt the project since the mail server admin believed the Collector caused his server issues.  My contact and I will be removing the mail server from the virtualization project, but to get the manager to allow the project to continue, I need to put something in her hands that explains how the Collector is getting it's data.  I have tried my self explaining it, but she is insisting on something from VMWare that explains how the collector is getting the data.  I know it is active collection, and as far as I know it just uses the built in WMI or Remote Registry services to request monitoring data that causes no impact to system performance.  I will be searching for an app note or a white paper or a KB article today, I would greatly appreciate if someone already knows of something that can settle this argument for me and help me get this project back on track.
    thank you

Almost same setting here, same troubles.
If I restart them via Screen Sharing via the Restart Button on the Login Window, they sometimes show up correctly. But this is way too annoying.

  • Network connections running slowly

    Hello everyone!
All of a sudden, my mac seems to be taking ages to load both intranet and internet pages.
In the house we have 2 laptops (one mac one PC) and another windows desktop PC and they are all behaving themselves nicely. If I go to a website speed tester it's showing me as getting decent speeds, but if I download anything I'm lucky to get 5-6kbps.
To try and remedy the problem, I've run the latest updates (painful at 5kbps!), restarted everything on the network, changed my DNS servers to OpenDNS, sworn lots of times and been mocked by my girlfriend who really hates macs.
Does anyone have any ideas that could help me with this? Failing that, does anyone have a single friend who they can set me up with for when the mocking becomes too much?
    Thanks everyone,
    Rob

  • Issues when installing Hyper-V Platform with 8 network filters running

Hi. This isn't so much a question as a solution in case anyone else has this problem.
I tried to install Hyper-V Platform on Windows 8.1 Pro but it kept undoing changes after 93%.
I had it previously installed on the same hardware so knew there weren't any limitations there. Some forums suggested running "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" followed by "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" but this
    made no difference.
Eventually, I looked up a forums that suggested "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\MaxNumFilters" had to be set if a maximum of 8 filters were in use. So I created a DWORD entry with a value
of 14 (maximum on previous Windows versions) but it still didn't work!
I checked how many networks filter were active with this powershell script:
    get-itemproperty hklm:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network | format-list -property MaxNumFilters
    $children = get-childitem -path hklm:\system\currentcontrolset\control\network\"{4d36e974-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}" | get-childitem | where-object {$_.PSChildName -eq "Ndi"} | get-itemproperty | where-object {$_.FilterClass} |get-itemproperty -name FilterClass
    "Filter Count: " + $children.count
    "Filter List: "
    $children | foreach-object -process { get-itemproperty -path $_.PSParentPath } | format-list -property Description,PSPath
Still 8 were active! I then read that Windows 8.1 should scale MaxNumFilters automatically so I removed MaxNumFilters from the registry. Finally, I uninstalled my Anti-Virus (Kaspersky in my case) then tried installing Hyper-V platform again and it worked!
After that, I ran the powershell script again and it detected that 9 filters were running. It looks like a bug whereby Windows is not scaling up the MaxNumFilters properly when Hyper-V platform is installed.
This might only be an issue with Kaspersky and/or if exactly 8 filters are running but I imagine there are many more conditions under which this might occur.

  • CP1525NW connected to wireless network. Running W7 64 bit. Printer shows offline constantly.

I have a desktop and laptop configured with W7 64 bit. On laptop printer works fine, on desktop printer shows offline constantly and the only way to get it running again is by uninstalling the software and reinstalling. I have gone online and downloaded the drivers for 64 bit but I keep getting messages indicating the HP (xxxxx) program 32 bit has stopped working. Not getting this on laptop. They are connected to the same wireless network. Help? - Thanks

Let's try to get the printer back to 192.168.0.103.
Browse to the printer's web page again.
    Select Networking, then Wireless.
    Select IPv4 Configuration.
    Select Manual IP Address
Enter 192.168.0.103 for the Manual IP Address
Enter 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask
    Enter 192.168.0.1 for the Gateway
    Press Apply.
Now turn off your computer and printer.
Turn on the printer and wait a minute. Print the network configuration page and verify that the IP address show is 192.168.0.103
Turn on the computer. Verify that you can browse to the printer's web page and that you can surf the internet.
    Try printing
BTW -- what model wireless-router do you have?

  • Network problems running vista on air

I installed Windows Vista on my air and Vista can't find any networks.
    It gives two error messages:
-network adapter problems: "wireless network connection" is not working properly.
-broadcom 802.11n network adapeter is experiencing driver or hardware relate issues.
I can connect to my network wirelessly no problem using Leopard.
I've tried checking for new drivers, but vista says the best driver is already installed.
Network adapter device status says 'device cannot start'. When I click check for solutions button it flashes a box that goes away too quickly to read.
    Any ideas would be appreciated!!

I've been looking unsuccessfully for the answer to this problem too. I'm running Leopard and just installed Vista, but once booted in Vista, I can't conncect via wireless.
While looking around for answers yesterday, I found one forum that suggested this update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021
To download, you have to prove that you have a legitimately paid for Windows OS, so that requires that you have a different Windows installation somewhere to download it. Good luck with that, if you don't have a friend's PC to use.
However, once I finally got that downloaded WAP updater, I tried to use it, but I get an error message suggesting that there isn't enough space to install it. It's weird because my Windows volume was formatted for 32 GB. The present installation only takes up 21 GB, leaving at least 10 gigs to unzip and use this updater. So, that's where I'm stuck for now...

  • Can C3KX-NM-1G network module run at 100mb?

When trying to configure the speed setting on the interface I only have the "nonegotiate" option. The access switch on the other end can only run at 10/100mb. It's a vendor switch that I can't replace and must be connected via fiber due to distance. Is there a way for this network module to run at 100mb?
    Thanks

Can you please post the following output:
    1.  sh version;
    2.  sh log;
    3.  sh inventory

  • Networking Solaris running X86

    Hi,
I am trying to network 2 computers. One of them is running Solaris 8 and the other is a Windows98.
All I want is, to make the Machine running Solaris 8 as the SERVER and I should be able to Telnet from the Windows98 machine.
I tried installing Solaris8 as a stand-alone it works great. When I attempted to load Solaris8 as a Server, I get an error.
Please let me know if anybody has attempted this and if so your guidance will be grately appreciated.
One last question can I network the 2 computers using hub instead of a Router?
    Thanks

    Hi ,
The /etc/hosts file on your system should look like this
    # Internet host table
    127.0.0.1 localhost
    192.1.1.10 hostname loghost
The hostname can be any thing which you have decided. Also ip-address should be what you selected. I have just shown you example.

  • Server processes across the network are running slow?

We have several processes which should be quick and simple and at the longest take 24hours to apply. We have a database running on a SQL server with an Access front end that is taking far too long on Fresh Build PCs to update. Sophos which is assigned by group policy to each PC once in the appropriate OU hasn't deployed and a distribution group took approximately 4-5 days to appear in the Global Address List.
The Global Address list did eventually update but even after a week the Database update and Sophos install have not yet gone through. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it has massively slowed my PC distribution process. The distribution group went through Exchange, Sophos is on Windows Server 2008 R2 and the Database is on an SQL server on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacentre.

    Hi,
in case you are starting the ThinInstaller.exe application from network share "\\server\share\ThinInstaller.exe" then this is unfortunatelly currently not supported.
I do understand, that this is described in the PDF, but the designer was thinking far way ahead, and once this situation came, that it should be tested, then TI could not work correctly when started from network share.
So in this case there is only one solution and this is to copy the ThinInstaller application and files to local system and let the Repository on the netowrk share and use it this way.
I have tried in the past to convince some people to get this changed, but I was told, that this should be implemented into ThinInstaller soon
Hope this helps a bit, althouth it's not a fix.
    Cheers

  • [SOLVED]hal and network not running on boot

My hal and network are not running on boot.  I have to manually start them once I login.  I have put them as Daemons in rc.conf and it still does not seem to help.
    Thanks!

I figured out what was wrong, the D in Daemons for the rc.conf file was a lowercase d for whatever reason.  But now I have a bigger problem, I seem to have lost the files for my sound card.  I used to have the soundcard listed in alsamixer.  Now it is not there.  when I do a
    $ cat /proc/asound/cards
it is not listed, although it used to.  however I can still
    modprobe snd-emu10k1
It is the Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1  I have tried to reinstall alsa.  I reinstalled alsa-utils and alsa-oss, but I am not sure how to uninstall alsa-lib because of dependencies.  PLEASE HELP.
