Apple does not respond in these forums except occasionally an Apple employee will stop by. If you want to contact Apple, use the contact us link at the bottom of this page.
With respect to your question "When will Windows 8.1 be supported on Boot camp 5?" you are asking us to speculate as to when Apple will release their drivers supporting Windows 8.1. We do not know, and we can not speculate as to when. From the terms of use of this forum:

The planned dates of production or release of Windows 8.1 drivers are speculation about the drivers.
With respect to your other question, "Do I return the Windows version and try to download 8.0, or wait it out until it is supported? New to Mac's.". I answered you.

  • Enabling 'File Sharing' on my Mac allows my Macintosh HD and Boot Camp to be visible and writeable on my home network. How can I turn this off, so that only folders/files I share are visible?

So I've been trying recently to get my MacBook Pro connected to my home network. There are two other desktop computers in the household, and I'd like to be able to connect to their shared folders, as well as allow them to access shared items on my MacBook Pro. I think I've read all the documentation regarding this issue on the Apple Support site. I do have administrator privileges on my Windows 7 computer.
Issues connecting from PC to Mac
A couple of days ago, I enabled SMB File Sharing on my MacBook Pro, and in addition to the already shared Public folder, I added another that resides within Movies. Then I went to my Windows 7 PC, and under Network, my MacBook Pro appeared. I double-clicked on it (I cannot remember if I was asked to enter my Mac user credentials; I think I was), and I saw the two shared folders: Public, and the Movies folder.
However, today I went back to my Windows 7 PC, accessed my MacBook Pro, entered username and password, and in addition to the two shared folders, both my Macintosh HD and Boot Camp HD appeared as shared folders, both fully writable. However, under File Sharing on my MacBook Pro, only the two shared folders (Public and Movies) appear in the Shared Folders list.
How can I prevent my Mac from sharing my entire partitions? How can I configure it so thatonly the folders I select to share are actually broadcasted across my home network? Also, it would be ideal if I can access these shared folders from my Windows 7 PC without having to enter my Mac user credentials.
Issues connecting from Mac to PC
I have a user account on my Windows 7 PC with the same name as my Mac, but with no password. When I try to connect to my PC from my Mac, the enter credentials dialogue pops up and asks me to either log-in as a Guest, or enter my User credentials.
The Guest account is disabled on Windows 7, and I assume that's I'm not able to log in as Guest (if it is possible to connect as a Guest without having to enable the Guest account on Windows 7, please let me know). Leaving the password field blank on the enter credentials dialogue tells me that it's incorrect (even though I don't have a password on my Windows 7 account).
Is it possible to access shared files and folders on my Windows 7 PC from my Mac without having to create a password protected account? If not, is it possible to create a password for the sake of accessing shared files, while not requiring it to log in to the account? I'm sorry, I know this last bit more falls under the category of Windows Help.

Sharing files from a Mac to a PC is a different animal.  I've never done it myself so you may want to repost a separate question on this topic.
From what I understand, in order to access files from a Mac on a PC, you must log in using your Mac username and password (no anonymous file sharing).  Since this is not very desirable from a security standpoint, Apple recommends creating a separate user account on the Mac that is dedicated to file sharing.  Give that account access only to the files/folders you want to share.  You can then give that user account name and password to your Windows users.

  • No wireless network on Windows 7 boot camp!

    Hey fellow Mac users!
I'm having a problem that has been bothering me for the last two days... Once I partitioned my hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on one part, there's no wireless internet connection. I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers. Yet, if I unplug the ethernet cabel (which Windows 7 Troubleshooter told me too) there's no internet connection, and I can't connect to a wireless network, while on Windows 7 (it works great in Mac OS X).
BUT.. I have a clue what the problem might be (or at least whats causing it). If I go into Computer->Properties->Device Manager in Windows, I see that I have a yellow warning sign on the Network Controller, under Other devices.
But if I click the Update driver button, it says that Windows couldn't find any new driver software for this device?? Please help me .

    Mr Tech,
I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers

  • Boot Camp Windows 8.1 Installation Did Not Install Network Card

I just installed a Windows 8.1 Boot Camp partition on a new Mid 2013 MBA. The install ran the support software and installed the drivers. However I don't show any network cards in my Windows 8.1 installation. I reran the support sw manually and it went through and supposedly fixed any driver errors but I still don't see a network card or have a network connection. It works just fine in my OSX partition, so it is definately a driver issue. *** do I need to do to get the network driver installed?

In Thehatters defence, this was initially posted in the MacbookPro forum and then moved to Boot Camp,
If you have any joy solving your trackpad device driver issue, feel free to post here (there might be a similar fix for my  wireless adapter device)
    Thanks

  • Help with Boot Camp Assistant network problem while downloading windows support system!

I need to download Windows support software, but just keep encountering a problem which says "Can't download Windows Support Software because of a network problem." What should I do? I'm currently using Boot Camp Assistant v5.0.0, and OS X 10.8.2. Help! What can I do to solve this network problem? Please and thank you (:

I have the same problem.  Anyone out there?  Hello?

  • Boot Camp installation knocks out my network connection in OS X?

I've tried doing an installation of Windows XP in Boot Camp on two different occasions, and both times have resulted in the same odd finding: the network settings in OS X are altered or affected and I can no longer get the computer to connect to any network, either wireless or through ethernet. I can't see anything noticeably different in the settings, but nothing seems to be able to get it to connect. The only thing that has saved me has been doing a restore from Time Machine to right before the Boot Camp install. It makes no sense to me what might be happening here and I haven't found other reports of this. Anyone have any ideas?
(If it makes any difference, when I got the new MacBook, I did a migration of a 10.4 system from my PowerBook G4 and sometimes wonder if something weird was inherited from that... but that is just a pure guess in the dark. And since, I've had the WIndows 7 beta and RC running in Parallels and Fusion with no problems. But I'd like the Boot Camp option.)

Free space? 15GB or more free.
    chkdsk comes up clean?
    cleaned out temp/tmp and cache?
Programs can be repaired right from the control panel "Programs"
Go into Services to check properties and make sure Apple Mobile, Bonjour, iPod etc are all set to running and automatic. I have to restart all of those usually to get my iPod to connect.
Windows 7 DVD to check for system repairs.

  • No network adapter or drivers seen in windows 7 after Boot Camp 5.0.

Mac Book Pro (newest). I Did a boot camp install of windows 7 home premium. Allowed 76 Gigs for that partition. Thought that would be enough. Did just fine.  Got all done and I cannot access the internet wifi or eithernet in Windows, when I trouble shoot with network diagnostics in windows it states no network adapter present, let alone the drivers for that adapter. I thought Boot Camp 5.0.1 did all that for you. There was no instruction to install drivers to a disc or thumb drive. Whent back to the MAC side and made shure I was sharing eithernet and wifi. When i do select share eithernet and WIFI I lose internet on the MAC  totally. I am about to lose it. I've been looking all day for the solution. Can someone help me.

It appears you did not read and follow the Bootcamp Installtion Guide. The guide was the first menu item when you started Bootcamp Assistant. You did not download the Windows drivers when you ran Bootcamp Assistant. You then did not install these downloaded drivers when you first stated Windows.
Start Bootcamp Assistant again. Select only the menu item to print the Bootcamp instructions. Read, and follow the instructions.

  • Network adapter not working Win 7 64 bit boot camp

    I have a late 2013 MBP r 15-inch 1 week old
Installed Windows 7 through boot camp and loaded the windows drivers and everything works fine except the Internet, when troubleshooting Windows said there is a problem with the wireless network adapter.
When checking in the device manager, I have only 1 unknown device and it's a Intel HM87 LPC conttoller 8c4b, I've tried updating the drivers to that with no help, still unrecognized.
    Help please!

Forgot to mention that the only listed network adapter is the Broadcom 802.11ac Network adapter and it says it working fine (no errors).

  • Boot Camp Network Adapter drivers

I wonder if anyone can assist in this?
I have installed Windows 7 on Boot Camp, I have booted it, and the thing wont connect to anyhting. THe troubleshooting mentions the lack of network adapters. How do I get these? I have tried the dvd I burned whilst setting up Boot Camp, with no result.

The drivers download servers are apparently down and have been at least all day today. Be patient and try again tomorrow or the next day.

I tried to download latest windows support using the boot camp , but the download stopped beacause of a network proplem ,  can you help?!

I have the same issues.  I keep getting a "network error" even though my connections are fine.  I have installed Bootcamp fine on another Macbook, but am having major issues with my brand new one.  I have read the support forums where they say to keep trying because the servers are notoriously slow, but this seems a little ridiculous.  Hope I can get some help as well.
    Thanks!

    Hello Bhagyeshree
Check out the articles below to troubleshoot issues with connecting to Wi-Fi. Start with creating a new Network Location and then search for a Wi-Fi network and if that does not work, then go through second article to troubleshoot the issue further.
