Networking Mac to pc to file share

New MacBook pro and trying to network to desktop pc to file share. I set up my new Mac to share printer with out a problem on network but can't seem to get the Mac to see the network so I can view files on pc that is running windows 7.   Has anyone had this problem? I'm sure it's operator error but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Hi Dave,
Is there a way to open the files on the second HDD (ie: FilesA, FilesB, FilesC as described above)?
Yes, easiest way is with Sharepoints...
http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
Use it to set any Drive/Folder as a Normal share, set Users and/or Groups, Rights, & AFS/SMB rights.
Next, when i go to Network on my Mac the Mshome folder does not always show the PC.  It was showing it earlier today, but not now.
95% of the time the problem is tht the PC's Firewall has quit sharing, Might try Bonjour for Windows...
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL999
This should help the printer problem also.

  • Mac OS X Server File Shares and Active Directory Users

About ready to pull my hair out on this one...
We have a department that only uses Macs. At the moment, it's a hodgepodge of different setups. We were able to convince the department to standardize, and purchase a Mac Mini Server. To keep things a bit simpler, we are setting up their department shares on the server as well.
To make my life simpler (or so I thought...) I decided to bind the OS X Server to our AD, and use the AD users/groups to allow access to the shares. The OS X Server app lists all of our AD user and groups, and I can apply them to the shares, however, when we try to access the share, it fails.
I don't think the server is talking to our AD correctly.
I can login to the Mac Server with my network account, my network account works for accessing Server.app, but nothing I've tried will allow our Mac or Windows clients to access the shares with the AD credentials. The log file comes up with:
    mccsrvrmac.mcc.local smbd[441]: check_account - [7]: [permission denied] pam_acct_mgmt
    Also seeing this:
mccsrvrmac.mcc.local kdc[57]: Asked for LKDC, but there is none
A bit of background: We added this Mac to the domain once before, realized that the HDDs weren't setup in a RAID config, so wiped it and reinstalled. I did remove the computer account before rebinding.
    Any help is appreciated!

I figured this out. In Mountain Lion Server, it doesn't matter if you give the user rights to a shared file or folder, if the user doesn't have access the File Sharing service, they can't get it. I had to find the specific users in the Server app under the AD in the Users tab, and give them rights to the File Sharing service. I think you can do this for a whole AD group as well, but I haven't tried.

  • How can I map a drive to Azue file shares without user intervention or having a user logged on?

I have the file share created, and can manually map the drive. I have even created a batch file that will create the drive mapping.  One step further, I used the following regedit to create the mapped drive:
    Regedit:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    add new string value:
    value name:  MapS
    value data:  c:\azurefileshare.bat
I have a scheduled task running a batch file running the net use command, and the drive is available, and I can create/delete files, so access is not an issue.
All works fine if I log onto the server, however, what I am trying to accomplish, is to have that drive mapped upon reboot without having a user log on.   Checking the log file running the net use command when no one is logged on, I get the following:
    Status       Local     Remote                    Network
Unavailable  S:        path of file share
    Microsoft Windows Network
    The command completed successfully.
    New connections will be remembered.
Is there a way to accomplish this?  Thanks in advance.

    Hello wdick,
Thank you for your response and getting back on this issue. I am sorry that the blog that I referred to was not available. I pretty much thought that you must be referring to the ‘File Services’ which is in preview yet. I recently had another user with a similar
question but currently, the users can access the files using only 'Interactive logon'. You can refer to this link:

  • An issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when saved to a network file share

It has been reported and reproduced by Support, an issue whereby Photoshop .PSD files disappear when they’re saved to a network file share.
Upon initial investigations Support have observed the following behaviour when saving a Photoshop file.
The document is initially saved as a new file on the file share.
The original  .PSD file is deleted on the file share.
The newly created file is renamed to the same name as the original file.
An issue often arises when steps 1 and 2 complete however step 3 fails. When a file is reported by users as having disappeared, the new file created in step 1 can be renamed from  .00_ to the original *.PSD file name on the server as the *.00_ files are normally hidden by the desktop operating system. This allows people to see and open the file from both PC’s and MAC’s using AFP and SMB protocols.
A related issue often reported by users is that they receive an error message “Could not save as” when trying to save a .PSD file. Troubleshooting the issue confirms that the user is able to save the file if they perform a “Save As” operation in Photoshop.
From the reported problems and observations there is clearly an issue with how Photoshop performs a file save operation further exacerbated by the fact the process doesn’t fail safely.

Sounds like you're hitting one of the known MacOS filesystem bugs - worst when working with SMB volumes.
Apple knows about this, and we are pursuing workarounds to the OS bugs.
Yeah, if you value your files, don't save directly to servers, especially on MacOS.

  • ISyncing a home computer to a networked Mac to share calenders and publish

Help! I have a networked Mac that shares a home directory with other macs. I need to isync with my .Mac account so I can publish an iCal to .Mac and allow other members of the staff to view events.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no need to synchronize a calendar with .Mac which you want others to view - you need only publish the calendar directly from iCal itself, a process which is explained in the iCal Help file.
If you need more specific information about publishing and synchronizing calendars, this forum is a good place to start:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=166
Keep in mind that there are subtle but substantial differences in the versions of iCal used under Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4, and most messages in that forum relate specifically to users of Mac OS X 10.4 and iCal 2 or later.

  • Where do I find Dynamic stamp files on a networked mac?

    Hi there,
I am trying to create a dynamic stamp with a form field in Acrobat XI pro. I have been told that once you have loaded in the stamp image to create the stamp you then must open this stamp file in order to add the form fields. From the reading I have done I believe you should find the stamp files by right clicking on the application in finder, going to show package contents and then following the path Contents > Plug-ins > Comments.acroplugin > Stamps > ENU
However when I try to follow this path I get as far as Plug-ins and then hit an empty folder? The only examples on the web for this method have been with Acrobat 9 and I am using a networked mac so I don't know whether either of these factors has any bearing on my problem?
If anyone can point me in the direction of where to find my stamp files I would be very grateful. (The stamp I created appears in the stamps in Acrobat so I know it must be saved somewhere!)
I am using Acrobat XI pro (Adobe CC) on a networked mac version 10.9.3.
    Thank you in advance!

There are two possible locations. The one you're mentioned is for the built-in stamps, and the other is for user-created stamps. Here are the two locations on my system for Acrobat 11:
    /Macintosh HD/Users/georgejohnson/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Stamps/
    /Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Acrobat XI Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/Built-in/Comments.acroplugin/Stamps/
These locations are given by running the following JavaScript in the interactive JavaScript console (cmd+J):
    app.getPath("user", "stamps");
    app.getPath("app", "stamps");

  • QuickTime Player vs Mac File Share

I used FCP to capture some mov files under Mac, and used Mac File Share option (SMB) to share the folder, then I tried to open the mov file from QT by used the Windows XP system; However, I got this error message
"Error -2000: a necessary data reference could not be resolved"
The UNC pathe for the mov file is: \\Mac0016cba81596\fcp data\Capture Scratch\Untitled Project 1\Untitled
If I copy the mov file from UNC location to local system, then I am able to open the file by use QT in XP system.
any idea why the QT can NOT open file from UNC path under Windows?

    hmmmmm.....
I just made a post in the 10.5.3 forums about this or something very much like it...
Basically, before 10.5.2, I could happily view .movs on my PC when they were served from my Mac via SMB.
With 10.5.2 and 10.5.3, I get the error message that the OP gave. If I copy the file to the PC, they can be opened just fine. These are full files, not reference files.
Any input? I hadn't complained about this in 10.5.2 because I thought it would be fixed pretty quickly and also because there were a ton of really good file sharing improvements, so overall 10.5.2 was a net positive. If Apple has decided to store these files differently, that's not a good thing for interoperability.
There are no issues viewing the files over AFP Mac to Mac.

  • File share, network mapped drives

Simple network.  One Server and two clients.  For a year the network was great.  File shares operated perfectly.  Last Tuesday windows automatically downloaded and installed security updates and the network connectivity went down.
I have discovered that if the firewalls are turned off the mapped drives will connect.  When the firewalls are turned back on the mapped drives drop and communication goes bye bye.  I have tried so many things.  Adding new rules, opening ports
and still the network will fail when the firewalls are turned back on.  If anyone has any suggestions I need help.  The OS on the server is Windows Server 2008, the clients are running Windows 7 professional.  The only other software on the
pc's is AVG business security edition.  Any suggestions are appreciated.  Thank You.

  • Cannot export a transport package to a network file share

I created a network file share (T) on my Portal DEV server.
I created a transport package, and when trying to export it, I get the error below:
[com.sapportals.portal.transport.app.TransportApplicationImpl]exportList: failed to create destination directory T:\
    any ideas what is wrong?

    Hi
While configuring the pcdStartup.properties file please be aware that networkshares need a configuration with additional "\" as they are interpered as excape character...
    So for example:
    C:\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\global\pcd/Import
    Becomes:
    C:\\usr\\sap\\<SID>\\SYS\\global\\pcd/Import

  • Running Forte via a network file share (Part 1)

    G'Day
I would like to run Forte via file a share on all suitable machines.
Any experiences from the list would be much appreciated in this regard. (Is
it possible? Feasible - well let's find out...)
Here is what I expect I will need to do:
    1. Need a 60MB file share on the network - check
    2. Need a SOE ("typical") Windows95(8) PC - working on it
    3. Will need to install Forte runtime on this SOE PC using the file share as
root drive - waiting on 2
    4. Now test some local applications to run on this PC using forte via the
file share - waiting on 3
Q: What are the implications of running forte via the file share.
All I want is to run inhouse developed applications on any PC without having
to install Forte on each and every PC!
How much file transfer can I expect forte to generate?
If this works I'll have to work out how to set other SOE PC to use Forte via
    the fileshare.
I expect I'll have to set registry settings. Anything else? But more to that
    in Part 2.
Let's see how this works out first.

    Hi Dirk,
This may be harder than it seems. Forte uses a number of
files stored over a number of different directories all starting
with forte_root. Some of these files are only read, others are
also updated. Some have to be local, others don't.
We have done two things that are related to this.
    1) Our client partition is manually copied to a file server.
Clients use ftexec with a parameter to indicate the inter-
preted code repository, which is stored on this file server.
The client partition isn't installed on any of the clients.
    a) you can't use the launcher
    b) you can only deploy a new version if everyone quits
    their application
    2) Out unix development machine has three different forte
environments on it, each using their own directory tree.
They all have their own 'appdist', 'userapp' and 'repos'
directory, but other directories are symbolic links to the
same, single instance. Within 'appdist' and 'userapp', the
directories for 'forte', 'fscript', 'econsole', etc. are also sym-
    bolic links.
This way we minimize the duplicating of files, yet each en-
vironment thinks it has everything itself.

  • Quicken files share between mac and PC?

I know this is really not the forum for this but someone may be able to give me this answer.
Client has a PC and Mac at home wants to share the Quicken file between the two computers.
Will Intuit allow Quicken to be open on both PC and Mac?
I am thinking the answer is no

    Jeffrey,
    The short answer is No.
The long answer is No. Quicken data files are not meant to be transferred between Quicken for Microsoft Windows and Quicken for Mac. Currently, there is not an available converter tool. There is a manual process available to accommodate the infrequent switch from one operating system to another; Intuit does not recommend performing this process on a regular basis. It is important to note that not all data will convert seamlessly. There is potential for duplication or loss of data due to major differences inherent to the operating system or version you are switching to.;~)

    I'm sorry to hear that.
I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago.  I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all.  I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist.  Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff).  Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for.  It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do.
