Networking Macbook to printer

so i rencently got a new macbook and am new mac user. I have two PCs with one connected to a router and the other using a dlink adapter to connect to network. The computer with the adapter has a usb printer connected to it. I was wondering if there is a way to printer wirelessly from my mac to the printer. I was experimenting and can currently print, only if the computer with the printer attached is also on. I was wondering if there was an easier way to do this or printer directly to the printer without the need to turn on the other PC. I would like to do this with minimal/no cost and my printer is a Epson Stylus Photo R300. Any tutorials, suggestions, feedback is much appreictaed....thank you

There are such things as network adaptors for USB printers (here's one) which can be very easy to set up and use if your network is using DHCP, less so if not. Personally, I think the price difference up to the Airport Express is worth it for the ease of configuration and extra features.
Other than finding a router with a printer port, or leaving one of your PCs on, those are really the only options you have for wireless printing from the Mac.

  • Connecting MacBook to printer in an XP Microsoft Small Network

Hi: I have working my Home Network in all my PCs and printer with windows XP Prof. The MacBook is connect to the printer using its MS OS and works very well in MS environment, wireless or directly connected.
How could I set up my MacBook in this Network throughout the Tiger Mac OS 10.4.11??
(I need connect my MacBook to this network and its printer, but from Tiger OS)
    Thanks

I think he means that he is dual booting (or using a VM) and the Windows partition on the MacBook can connect to the shared printer.
    To connect your Mac running Tiger 10.4.x to a printer being shared by a PC, read the following article;

  • Macbook Pro Retina OSX v. 10.8.3 -Canon Printer MP560. Printer no longer responds to print commands from the computer, printer and network work but cannot get docs from my macbook to print anymore.

Until last week, my printer and Macbook worked fine together - could print any doc or pdf, web page from my computer. Then it stopped - my printer will still make copies but will not print anything I send from my Mac. I have checked network connections, the printer WiFi connection works. I have not changed or added any thing different to my settings. I am out of ideas. thanks, Pattee

    Hello Pattee,
The following article has a number of troubleshooting steps that may help get your Printer working again.
OS X Mountain Lion: Troubleshoot a network printer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11070
Make sure you’re on the same network
Your computer might not be able to find a printer that’s on another local network.
To see if the printer you want to use is on the same network as your computer, try adding it again. If the printer doesn’t appear in the list of available printers, your computer might be on a different network now.
If you know the printer’s IP address (for example, 192.168.1.100), you can try adding it as an IP printer. For instructions, see this help topic:Set up an IP printer
    Add your printer again
Try to add your printer again in Print & Scan preferences. If you can print to the newly added printer queue, delete the old printer queue.
If you can’t add the printer because it doesn’t appear in the list of available printers, it may be turned off, or your computer may be on another network now. if the printer was shared by another user, the user may have stopped sharing it, or the user’s computer may be offline. If you don’t manage the printer, ask the person who does for help.
    Edit your list of printers
    Set up a printer
    Reset the printing system
If none of the previous solutions work, the printing system may be corrupted and need to be reset. This removes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about completed print jobs, and deletes any printer presets.
    Reset the printing system
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • MacBook Wirelessly Printing on a PC Network

I am completely new to the PC Networking..
I have a Canon MF6550 and HP Laserjet 1600, both hooked up to the PC and on a network where our second PC can print wirelessly.
We now have a MacBook and would like to also print wirelessly.
I have read many many posts in the Apple Discussions and on the internet in general.. after a bunch of days of trying everything, I'm at a loss. I can't get it to work so far.
    Please help.

I've followed these directions before.. yet, they don't seem to work for me.
In the WINS tab, do I put in the "computer name" (which it says is "Computer Name: karens." not the Computer Name Description) for the "NetBIOS Name", or do I put in the Workgroup, which it says is "Workgroup: WORKGROUP." How would I do that?
And then when I try to add either one of the printers (neither one of the drivers show up). Its funny because when I have the printer MF6550 hooked up via USB the mac will find the driver automatically, yet when I try to add it wirelessly, it doesn't find anything and there isn't a driver that at all looks like that model listed.
So many darn bells and whistles. I want to curse the PC, but I can't, I have to work with it. Any help is appreciated.
We are using a Dell Windows XP and Mac 10.5.6. And we had someone setup the network for wireless printing for the PCs a while back, I have no idea how they did it.

  • How do I add a printer connected to another iMac on the network to my printer list?

How do I add an Epson printer connected to an iMac on the network to the printer list on my MacBook Pro? I cannot get it to show up in the list for printers to add.

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

  • Fax Setup Problem: Networked MacBook can't find HP 2160 Fax

I have a recent MacBook Intel Duo OS X (10.4.10) that I have connected to base station via Airport. (Airport Extreme Base station, works fine for everything else) Base station is connected to cable modem (WAN) and Intel iMac is connected to base station via Ethernet cable. Network works fine.
I have an HP 2160 All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner connected to base station via USB. I just installed HP's bloated driver package on my Airport networked MacBook.
I can print fine via Airport networked MacBook, but I can't get the MacBook to find the fax (on printer setup) to allow me to send a fax via the HP 2160. The HP 2160 works fine as stand-alone fax (it's hooked up to phone line, has it's own internal fax modem).
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Two issues going on at once:
Drivers - OS X has two kinds of drivers; Carbon and CUPS. HP provides Carbon, USB-only drivers with printers that only have a USB connection (Yes, this is different from Windows, where a driver is a driver). Yet the standard comm protocols are provided by CUPS. You need CUPS drivers to use the CUPS network protocols. Search here to see if there's an open source CUPS driver for your model (you may need to find a "similar" model driver):
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
Then, to review the Windows Printing procedure, look at this:

  • HELP!!! MacBook wont print on wireless computer

    New to Macs.
I have a Lexmark X7550 wireless printer that was set up on our wireless network and works fine with three other PCs. But I can't get the MacBook to print or find it when i go through System Preferences.
But I can see the printers name on Bonjour when I look at it through Safari?
I downloaded Bonjour for one of my PCs but it couldn't find it through Bonjour.

    Hey NoName,
Folder with question mark, could be a few things. RAM, HDD, among others.
The best thing to try first is, when you turn it on, try inserting the MacBook dvd that came with it. Hopefully it takes it in. After you shut it down, try starting it up again while holding the "c" key. If it starts from there, try to repair permission from the disk... it is under Disk Utility.
If you get that far, great... We might have a chance.
Also, please let us know where you are located. If you are close to an Apple Store or authorized repair facility, take it in under warranty.
Good Luck and let us know what outcome you get.

I can't help with the scan/print problem. You seem to have done everything I would try.
I don't know if maybe using a registry cleaner would help.

  • Office jet 4620 on network, will not print

I have an Office Jet 4620 on my wireless network at home.
It has worked well until I installed a new router. The network sees the printer, I have entered my network password into the printer software.
When I try to print the printer makes a little noise then locks up. The only way to get the printer to turn off is to pull the power cord.
    Any ideas?

    Hello kalister1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your Officejet 4620 will not print. I will do my best to assist you! I am going to suggestion two options for you to try:
Please follow this entire HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. Also, I would recommend following this HP document on Sleep Mode Issues. Your printer could be going into a sleep mode, this is why you're experiencing this kind of issue.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus connected to network but cant print

My OJ Pro 8600 was previously configured and working properly, but has stopped. I was able to print off of 3 computers and a phone. All have the same IP directed toward the printer and the printer has the IP as well. I have reset the network, reset the printers network settings and the set them back up, ensured the computers have the correct ip address for the printer as well. I have tried to print the from the computers with no luck. The printer does pull a proper IP .120 in a .0 network with default gateway matching all the computers which is pingable. Printer doesn't show in the arp table either.
The computers can't find the printer, neither can the phone and the same from printer to computer when attempting to scan to the computer. I have checked the WIA on all computers, restarted the service also.
Also tried manually setting the IP on the printer and still no luck. My wireless range hasn't changed as I'm still within signal distance from the router with a strong signal.
Tried Print and scan Doctor - no luck
I'm at a total loss minus hooking a computer directly up to the printer at this point.
I keep thinking 'PC load letter' and laugh as this must be something small i'm overlooking..
    HELP?
Problem solved - full reset on router and network settings on printer.

  • FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network. I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

HOW can i sent FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network.
I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Apparently there is no HP software support for the HP 3050 fax or scan functions with OS X 'Lion' 10.7:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02950970 #A1
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c0292511 4
    Alternatives?
    1) Run a Windows client on the Mac using Boot Camp or one of the available virtualization programs like Parallels, VMware Fusion, and others so you can run the latest Windows print/fax/scan driver.
    2) If your Mac hardware supports an older OS X version, downgrade to one (Snow Leopard?) that still had support for print, fax and scan.
    3) Buy a newer printer. A 2007 model is 5+ years old, and should now be fully depreciated in a business.

  • Networked HP K5400 printing everything backwards, server computer Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate

Our networked HP K5400 printer has just started printing everything backwards, (word, notepad, Adobe reader, web). The server computer is a Windows Vista 32-bit Ultimate.
Configuration has been working fine since we got the printer over a year ago. I do not believe there have been any recent updates or new software installed since it's been printing backwards. A new router (Cisco Linksys E4200) was added but pretty sure it was printing fine even after router added a month ago. I have checked the properties and made sure Mirror Image IS turned off.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Carol

Okay, couldn't find any HP software on the server computer.
I DID however recheck all the settings and still only able to find MIRROR IMAGE set to OFF everywhere I looked..
UNTIL I clicked around and found one setting a little buried and it was set to ON.. Did a test print on something that was printing backwards and it printed correctly.
Thanks for your suggestion. When the printer gets moved to the router I'll have to recheck all the settings but until then I hope this fixes the problems.
    Carol
Oh here is what I had to do.. The first part are the same directions that I found on here and other places but didn't work for me, second part is what fixed my problem.
    START>CONTROL PANEL>HARDWARE AND SOUND>PRINTER
Rt. mouse CLICK on selected printer
    CLICK PROPERTIES
CLICK button on bottom of GENERAL tab PRINT PREFERENCES
    select OFF for MIRROR IMAGES
if that is alread set to OFF (which mine was already set to OFF)
    CLICK on ADVANCED tab
CLICK on PRINTING DEFAULTS button at bottom
select OFF for MIRROR IMAGES (which mine was set to ON)
    CLICK OK/APPLY to exit
    test print
