Networking on virtual server

Hi,
So I can't get networking on a virtual machine (CentOS) running, the parent virtual machine connects propperly and can ping everything OK. The virt has all the correct settings and it's own IP address but can't ping anything, even the host server.
Is there something special I have to do to get it to work?

  • Hyper V internal network no ping between real and virtual server

    Hi
I have a 2012 server with a static 192.168.1.102 ip address and a 255.255.255.0 subnetmask. This server can be pinged by other servers.
On this server I have Hyper V installed, and configured a virtual
    internal network switch.
In Hyper V, I installed a 2012 server, using the virtual internal network switch, with the static 192.168.1.111 ip address and 255.255.255.0 subnetmask. The virtual server can ping other virtual computers using the same virtual internal network switch.
However, the host server can't ping the virtual server and vice versa. What am I doing wrong? I there something else that needs to be configured?

    Hi,
If you want to connected your guest vm and your host you must setting this vms to the same virtual switch and at the same subnet, the Hyper-V internal virtual switch can't connect the host directly.

  • Need to create a virtual server and give its access to another admin

    Dear Sir,
I am a new admin and have 5 Blade server "HP ProLiant BL660c Gen8".
I access these servers through HP enclosure.
I have to install Hyper-V on server 1 which consisted of the OS windows server 2012 R2 Datacenter edition.
I created a plan to create 5 Hyper-V VM's on the physical server and I requested the IT department network Admin that I want these 5 VM's to able to connect to each other.
The network Admin created a Trunking configuration on the physical server and after this setup he provided me Hyper-v node IP address and 5 more IP addresses for the 5 Hyper-v VM's.
Now it was left to me to Add the Hyper-v role and create 5 VM's.
While Adding the Hyper-V role, I was asked in the middle of the setup to add the network adapter for
    connecting to external network.
I went inside the network connection settings and I see one network adapter "Microsoft Multiplexer"
which had the IP address of the Hyper-V node which was given  to be me by Network Admin.
    Besides this I found following Network Adapter: (Mgmt,Trunk):(Mgmt A, Trunk A);(Mgmt B, Trunk B) =Total
6 Network Adapter out of which only "Mgmt" was configured with the IP address of the Hyper-v node given by my Network Admin. Remaining all other Network adapters IPV4 configuration
    was unchecked except "Mgmt"
So I selected the "Mgmt" connection while Installing the Hyper-v role
SO I chose this Network connection for adding the Hyper-V role.
My question: Did I chose the correct Network Adapter.
After doing this I created a VM-1 and tried to assign the IP address given by the Network Admin. But the network Admin did not provide me the default gateway so I used the deafult gateway according to the IP address and used the last digit as "1"
    like a general installation.
Now my question is: 1.How can I use this VM to be used as a Virtual server?
    2. I would like to open this VM through my browser by entering the IP address of this VM-1. How can I do this?
Because I access my physical server through the IP address. SO in the similar way I want to access this VM-1 through the IP address
OR is there any alternate way to access this VM-1 separately.
My Requirement: I need to give VM-1 access to another admin to Install his application on it. SO how to give him to access this VM directly?
    This is my main query.
    Waiting for your reply.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ahmed

Jawin, Jacob, etc.. are fine for creating COM clients but COM servers is a totally different story. I suspect you'll either have to write your own JNI or get out your C/C++ compiler.

  • How to join local computer to virtual server domain ?

    Hi everyone,
I am new to Window Azure cloud computing. I found many articles and tutorials available online but I am kind of lost because I don't what I need to do to achieve my scenario.
Scenario: I want to migrate my servers to cloud and retire all local servers such as DC and file server. At the same time, I wish to control the network traffic to limit the clients access to Internet resources. I am not sure retiring the
all local servers is something right to do and how to do.
    What I have done:
    1. Site-to-Site VPN connection with Dell Sonicwall TZ205 to VNet. (I followed the route-based VPN in this document -> https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CB0QFjAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.software.dell.com%2Fdownload%2Fdownloads%3Fid%3D5343958&ei=ykGhVIK6GISWuASU6oHQBw&usg=AFQjCNGGS6fsuK6IHAWyQgZi5fey4xhfKg&bvm=bv.82001339,d.c2E&cad=rja)
    2. Created a VM in the VNet. (I can ping the VM from computers connected to TZ205)
    3. Installed active directory and configured the domain forest.
    What I need to do:
    1. How to join the local computers to the virtual server domain controller with S2S and P2S VPN. (Some Internet resources mentioned I need to install Connect agent in order to do this)
    Extra questions:
    1. Is it possible to request the clients to provide account credentials before the point-to-site VPN to VNet is established ?
    2. How do I configure the TZ205 VPN router to send all the Internet traffic to the VNet instead of the ISP gateway? The computers connected to TZ205 firewall router public IP address doesn't change to the VNet gateway IP.
Thanks for your time reading my questions. It will be helpful if you can provide me some useful links or ideas.
    Sincerely,
    Chee-Kian

    Greetings!
I assume there is connectivity between on-prem device and DC on Azure VM.
You can set the Internal IP of the DC as DNS on the on-prem device and trying joining it to the existing domain. Please note to use S2S VPN.
It is not possible to provide user credentials while connecting to vNet via P2S VPN. It's a certificate based authentication (which is so by design).
With regards to your query to send all internet traffic to vNet instead of ISP gateway. Please refer to Forced Tunneling:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/dn835140.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • Migrating a physical database server to a virtual server

we are migrating a physical database server to a virtual server what are the concerns?
the server name and IP address will stay the same

Database server on a virtual server sounds like a bad idea to me.
Databases are huge resource consumers, they require dedicated resources memory/cpu/IO/network.
In virtual settings all this is shared.
So, I predict that in virtual your performance and throughput will suffer greatly.
You can google pro's and con's of virtualized servers for more details.
However, as far as BO product is concerned - all we need is connectivity, if DB connect info doesn't change - we won't see no difference . (except above about performance)

I have problem with storage virtualization. It looks, that on virtual server (hosted by Hyper-V) there isn't possibility to have a SCSI Persistent Reservation (PGR). Am I right?
    Thank you for any help.
Correct. Use iSCSI, Virtual FC or Shared VHDX (see below).
    Guest VM Cluster with Hyper-V
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn440540.aspx
    Storage options
The following tables lists the storage types that you can use to provide shared storage for a guest cluster.
    Storage Type
    Description
    Shared virtual hard disk
New in Windows Server 2012 R2, you can configure multiple virtual machines to connect to and use a single virtual hard disk (.vhdx) file. Each virtual machine can access the virtual hard disk just like servers
would connect to the same LUN in a storage area network (SAN). For more information, see Deploy a Guest Cluster Using a Shared Virtual Hard Disk.
    Virtual Fibre Channel
Introduced in Windows Server 2012, virtual Fibre Channel enables you to connect virtual machines to LUNs on a Fibre Channel SAN. For more information, see Hyper-V
    Virtual Fibre Channel Overview.
    iSCSI
The iSCSI initiator inside a virtual machine enables you to connect over the network to an iSCSI target. For more information, see iSCSI
Target Block Storage Overview and the blog post Introduction of iSCSI Target
    in Windows Server 2012.
Storage requirements depend on the clustered roles that run on the cluster. Most clustered roles use clustered storage, where the storage is available on any cluster node that runs a clustered
role. Examples of clustered storage include Physical Disk resources and Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV). Some roles do not require storage that is managed by the cluster. For example, you can configure Microsoft SQL Server to use availability groups that replicate
the data between nodes. Other clustered roles may use Server Message Block (SMB) shares or Network File System (NFS) shares as data stores that any cluster node can access.
    Hope this helped :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

  • MII on virtual server

    Hi all,
    from the Best Practices Guide:
"MII can be deployed on virtual server as well as physical server configurations because of NetWeaveru2019s virtualization capabilities."
Does anyone have deployed MII + NWCE and/or UDS on a virtual server?  Maybe the need of memory and network is a concern for this type of app.
    Marcos

    Hi, Jeremy.
I mean productive use.  On [note 1409608 - Virtualization on Windows|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1409608] I found that all NW Java applications are supported in virtualized environments as in non-virtualized environments, as long the problem isn't related to performance or the hypervisor.  The same note states that some applications, like TREX and MDW, aren't suitable for virtualization since they are resource-intensive, even considering resource reservation on the host. I wonder if MII is this kind of restricted app, since it can do a lot of communication and memory use.

  • 10.6.3 virtual server anomalies

Sure could use some help here. I've installed Snow Leopard 10.6.3 Server in a virtual machine via Parallels. For a brief period I was able to ping this virtual server and even connect to it from Server Admin on my "real" Mac partition. There seemed to be no problem in connecting to the virtual server via its IP of 10.211.55.7 even though the "real" Mac side uses 10.0.1.3.
I've been trying to teach myself via a manual about Open Directory and at one point worked on getting my virtual server to have proper DNS zones. It took me awhile, but eventually I got the DNS fixed and there was a valid machine entry and reverse zone for the DNS name I had give to the virtual server.
This was where I got into trouble. Although my DNS entries in the server seem to be working just fine, I've lost the ability to connect from the "real" Mac and I cannot even ping the virtual server anymore. It would seem a no-brainer in that the virtual server is on one virtual subnet and the real Mac is on it's own real subnet; but that's how it was before I did the DNS entries and I was able to remotely connect at that time - hence my confusion. Since I'm learning I don't really yet know how to resolve this conundrum and could use some enlightening. Thanks.

Changed everything to bridged networking and all is well.

  • [SOLVED] ssh/sshfs file permissions messed up on remote virtual server

    Hello,
i am quite ok with linux these days, but all things network are still hard to grasp...
    here's the problem:
recently i got some space on a friends virtual server (ubuntu 10.04).
i started playing around there, mostly connecting with sshfs.
then i ran into the problem that some files can't be deleted although i'm the one who copied them over.
we figured out it's about user and group id's and my friend gave me group write permissions:
    chmod -R w+g /home/<myuser>
i am quoting him here. nb, he's a web developer but not a linux user.
however, it has happened again (can't delete some files) and before asking him for help i'd like to figure out what is actually going on.
and maybe i can fix it myself.
i am logging into my serverspace manually as user.
    here's my ~/.ssh/config:
    Host <me>
    HostName <host.com>
    Port <nnnnn>
    User <me>
    Compression yes
    AddressFamily inet
i am still entering the password every time since i have not yet figured out how to get the keys working.
    here's how i start sshfs:
    sshfs -C -o idmap=user -o uid=<nnnn> -o gid=<nnn> -o sshfs_debug -o follow_symlinks -p <nnnnn> <me>@<host.com>:/home/<me> /home/<somedir>
there's been many changes to that line, esp. the idmap, uid and gid options.
now if i make a long ls on the remote machine:
    ~$ ll
    total 32
    drwxrwsr-t 3 <me> www-data 4096 Nov 23 09:42 ./
    drwxr-xr-x 15 root root 4096 Oct 29 04:21 ../

    lrwxrwxrwx 1 <me> www-data 29 Oct 25 08:18 webroot -> /<...>/<host.com>//

    and on the webroot:

i can't delete the files and fonts-audim folders although i myself created them.
    Q:
    - How can i set up ssh/sshfs to avoid something like this happening ever again?
    - Can i delete these files myself or do i have to ask my friend?
    thanks in advance.

    thanks for taking an interest!

yes, let's. it's a quote from an email.
Second; what is the exact output from `rmdir files`?
    $ rmdir files
rmdir: failed to remove `files': Directory not empty
    $ rm -R files
    rm: descend into write-protected directory `files'? y
    rm: remove write-protected regular file `files/abc.zip'? y
rm: cannot remove `files/abc.zip': Permission denied
I'm guessing someone else put some stuff in there which you are not allowed to remove, leading to your problem.
no, i created everything in the webroot folder except for index.html and the adminer dir.
I suspect this has something to do with my previous invoking sshfs without the idmap option (or a wrong one) or my friend's activities to help me access my files.
...try renaming a folder to see if that works.
    no problem there.
however, renaming the zipfile inside the folder:
    $ mv abc.zip bca.zip
mv: cannot move `abc.zip' to `bca.zip': Permission denied
Also; from your output it seems files & fonts-audim is created by www-data, not you?
my friend, rentee of the virtual server, says it's normal that i am not the owner of the webroot dir (which is just a symlink to some dir in /var/.....)
    but still...

  • Help With Virtual server

Hi, I'm trying to get virtual server set up on my computer. I seem to be having trouble with my computer's configuration, I've edited ssh_config to use port 2222 (port 22 is blocked by my ISP) and to use GatewayPorts, so I know the connection is reaching my computer, but ssh -v [email protected] gives me the following:
    OpenSSH_4.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7i 14 Oct 2005
    debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh_config
    debug1: Connecting to 207.148.144.12 [207.148.144.12] port 2222.

I've played around with my config files and can't find a way to get it not to be refused. Remote login is on. I'm not a UNIX user much at all so I might need a bit more help
Do I have to enter an authentication name in my configuration somehwere? Have I forgoetten to do anything? And is it just me or is it actually telling me its October of last year?
    Thanks in advance,

Are you trying to connect to port 2222 on the server? if so, changing ssh_config isn't going to have any effect.
ssh_config controls the ssh client configuration. In addition you need to tell the server to listen on port 2222 as well. It doesn't sound like you've done that.
Normally this would be controlled by the file /etc/sshd_config, but in the case of Mac OS X, sshd doesn't actually run as a daemon, so even this won't work.
Mac OS X uses launchd to manage the sshd server - invoking the sshd process when a network connection comes in. Therefore it's launchd that you need to change to tell it to listen to port.
You'll need to edit the file /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/ssh.plist and change the section:
    <pre class=command> <key>SockServiceName</key>
    <string>ssh</string></pre>
to replace 'ssh' with the port number you want to use (off hand I'm not sure if substituting a port name with a number will work, but it's worth a try.
The alternative, and somewhat simpler, option is to setup port forwarding on your router (assuming you're using some kind of NAT router) to forward connections from port 2222 on the public interface to port 22 on the server. This will only work if your router supports changing the port number as well s the destination IP address (not all of them do), but if it does then you don't need to change anything on the server.

  • Virtual server can't attach internet service provider in physical computer

    Hai all,
i'm new in here, i'm sory if my english is bad.
i have some question about virtual machine in hyper-v.
i have one machine installed windows server 2012 with 2 NIC. When i going to connect internet service provider to ether 1 in physical network it's success, but when i'm going to virtual server and want to attach internet service provider in physical network
    to virtual network it's fail..
    please help me,
    Regards

    Hi Endra,
I am assuming that you want the VM can access internet after hyper-v server connects to ISP .
Please try to follow these setps below :
    1. create an internal virtual switch and connect the VM to it
    2. open network and sharing center  configure an IP for the new internal Vswitch
    3. configure VM's IP (it should be in same subnet with the IP of new Vswitch )
    4. configure the VM's gateway same as the IP of new internal Vswitch (after this the vm can ping the gateway , if it can not please try to check if the integration service was installed)
    5. find the internet connection of hyper-v server , share it with the new Vswitch.
Accessing internet again from the VM.
    Hope this helps

i am using iplanet for configuring a virtual server

The inbound port is the port that is used on the Internet side. It is the port that the outside world will use when accessing your service.
The private port is the port that the router sends it to on your local network. It is the port where your computer is expecting the information.
Many times you will set both ports to the same value.
