It can be tricky I can't explain it clearly. But go to the mac help at top of your screen and enter windows printing in the search box and try this first.
It took me a while to get it working because of firewall problems.
sorry can't tell more

  • How do I network PowerBook & iBook w/new Printer?

I am considering purchasing a new HP printer that has 'networking' capabilities. I have no idea exactly how to 'network' my iBook and Powerbook with this printer, but I would love to find out. I am assuming that I need an ethernet cable and a 'router'. Can anyone be more specific with this information. I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you, shineylewis
    PB g3   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

You are exactly right. A router and 3 ethernet cables are what you need. Get a 10/100 router (Linksys, D-Link, etc.) with more than three ports. Connect an ethernet cable from the iBook to a port on the router, the PowerBook to the router, and the HP printer to the router. Set the router as a DHCP server and turn on the printer and computers. Configure the laptops to use DHCP and you should be networked.

  • Mountain Lion, home network and choosing a new printer...

We recently upgraded to Mountain Lion. We have multiple iMacs and use an AirPort Extreme. We also have iPhones and iPads. I am upgrading my printer, but am unsure how to make sure the printer will be compatible and will work on our network. This has been an issue in the past and networking is not my strongest skill. What do I need to look for to ensure my investment is not a waste of money?
I am looking at the HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color M276mw, HP LaserJet Pro300 color MFP 375nw but am still open to other options if it suits our needs and will work with our network.

Eric, I just found that document a little while ago. It was what influenced me to choose the 200 series, since it was on the list.
I believe you are correct Gerald. I believe I am now planning on buying, but I want to ensure I know how to install it so everything will work properly. I am not sure if that will require a direct network connection, wireless or something else. I don't like to get something, know it *should* work and fail to be able to accomplish that. LOL
I called the folks at HP. Luckily for me the Mac tech support section is closed on the weekends and only works Monday - Friday. *sigh*

  • Trying to network my hp deskjet 6940 printer via a new win 7 64 pc. the printer shows as "offline"

I am trying to network my hp deskjet 6940 printer via a new win 7 64 pc.  The printer is visible but shows as "offline" and will not respond.
Can the  hp deskjet 6940 printer operate over a lan using a win 7 64 pc?
    Thanks!

    Borneodiver,
Since the site says the driver is already in Windows 7, then a different method of adding the printer will need to be performed to get the driver from Windows Update.
First, uninstall the printer from the Windows 7 system.
    1.  go to devices and printers and select Add Printer at the top.
    2.  Select Add a local printer.
    3.  Create a new port with port type Local Port.
    4.  The port name will indicate where the printer is located.  The format will be \\<computer name>\<printer share name>.  Leave out the < > symbols.  For me, this would be \\mycomputer\printer.
    5.  The next screen will show a list of various printers.  Click the Windows Update button to update the list to the most current.
    6.  Select your model printer from the list.
The rest of the prompts should continue from there without any issue.  I do not have a photosmart 7760 to get the rest of the prompts from there, but it should work after these steps are completed on the Windows 7 system.
If the printer was added using the network option, then it won't work on Windows 7 and there won't be an option for the driver since a network driver doesn't really exist for the printer since it is not natively networked.
Selecting the network option is usually selected in this process and it appears to not work with printers that are shared from a computer.  This process tricks the Windows 7 system into running the printer as if it was actually connected to the printer, but the port name directs it to the host computer.
    Let me know what happens.
I did find these steps here in jimbo45's post.  I did perform the steps with a different computer and printer successfully, but it should work in this scenario as well.

  • I installed a new printer and Acrobat Pro is not listing it as an option in the drop down box. Other apps are working. Printer is networked, platform is Windows.

sorry, other apps are working fine and finding the new printer. HP Officejet 8620.

I've rebooted numerous times, reloaded the software twice, spent 4 hrs on the phone with HP and 2 with Adobe. No luck. It simply doesn't show the new printer in the drop down menu for Pro or Reader and yet shows time in all in Office, Paint, Web options. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • I am not able to select a new network printer just installed at work to print to from Firefox. I have tried to reset the printer settings, but this did not work. Do I need to map Firefox to this new printer?

We recently had a new printer installed at work that has been set as the Default printer on my computer. When I go to print something from Firefox, I am not able to select the new printer from the printer window in the print box. The new printer does not show up

From another computer, go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/, click "Free download" button, click "Save File" button, select your flash drive in "Save as" window. "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" file will be saved in your flash drive.
You just need to insert it in your new computer and double-click on "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" from Windows Explorer and follow instructions.

  • Trying to install new printer on another networked computer downstairs. Cannot locate on network .

I have a computer dopwnstairs on wireless. Wireless Net gear home buisness. I am installing a new printer and it is a wired ethernet cable to main computerwhihc acts as the servier to the one downstairs. I cannot print from the one downstairs any lionger since installing a new all in one office jet 8500 910A in main office wiht ethernet cable connection. Have cheked connections and all OK?

I don't think this will work. Try connecting it with USB to the server PC. By the way, it will only share printing, not scanning or faxing. Why not install the printer via wireless (or is it a wireless version)?

  • How do I configure Guest network to access ethernet wired printer?

I have a wired/wireless network with a new dual band AEBS. The AEBS is connected to a Cisco router, which in turn sends it's connections to various wall-plates in our home. One HP 4110 printer is wired via it's ethernet port, one Mac Mini (OS 10.6.2) is hard wired also. The dual band AEBS 5 GHz network is used for our newer laptops, and the 2.4 GHz network is used for a G3 Firewire PowerBook (now don't make fun... it was the best there was at one time) running OS 10.4.11.
The PowerBook cannot access the printer that is hard wired via ethernet cable to the network. How do I get the PowerBook on the "Guest" network to access the printer?
I tried searching these discussions, but can't find an answer to my specific issue. Any help is appreciated.

Since you have a simultaneous dual-band AEBS, why not connect your PowerBook G3 to the non-Guest 2.4 GHz network created?
Can I take an AEBS that is a couple of years older (I have a couple of the flying saucers around here somewhere), wire that to an available ethernet port on the LAN, and then connect the older PowerBook G3 to that older AEBS wirelessly?
    Sure
If so, will that arrangement slow down the entire system?
    No
If that won't work, and I connect the PowerBook G3 directly to an ethernet port, will that slow down the other wireless computers?
Yes you can connect your PowerBook G3 via Ethernet. That would have no effect on the wireless computers.

  • New Printer Printing Problem

I have a home network centered around an Apple Airport Extreme BaseStation. The base station is wired to a Linksys network switch which, in turn, is wired to two computers - an Apple Dual G5 running OS X 10.4.10 and a PC running Windows XP service pack 2. I also use two Apple notebook computers that communicate using Airport cards. Until last week, I was using an HP Deskjet 842C as my printer, wired into the USB port of the Airport Base Station; with this setup, all computers could print to the printer. Last week, I bought a new HP LaserJet P1006. I first connected this printer to each computer's USB port to set up the drivers and verify that it worked. I then connected it to the USB port on the Base Station in place of the 842C. Each of the Apple computers recognized the printer and can print to it. However, I cannot get the Windows machine to print to it. I have Bonjour for Windows loaded, after I added the printer with the Add Printer function, it should up in the Printer Panel. I can ping the Base Station from the Windows computer and it responds. If I unplug the new printer from the Base Station and plug it directly into the PC, it will print. But, when I reconnect it to the Base Station, nothing happens. I've tried everything suggested at the Apple Support page but that didn't help. I could find nothing at the Microsoft site. When I contacted the HP help desk, they sent me the printer set-up instructions from the Apple site.
    Anyone got any ideas???

Well, i just want to pile on here to see if my info can shed any light on this problem. I bought an HP P1006 to use over an Airport Express with a Powerbook (15"/1.5Ghz/PPC G4) and an iMac (20"/2.16Ghz/Intel); both run 10.4.11. I loaded the drivers provided with the printer then tried to add the printer to my list of printers. No luck. The driver was not available through Print & Fax. I tried plugging it in via the AE and still no luck. Went to the HP site and downloaded the latest drivers. Still no good. Did a bunch of research. Did a Clean Install via Archive and Install. The printer now shows up via the USB on the PB but not via AE, AND I had to basically fake out the Print & Fax dialog by picking another closely related printer because even after all this effort, the P1006 driver still does not appear as an option. I'm ready to hurl this printer into the street and run back and forth over it with my car (could be some anger management issues here). I have an HP1012 that's about two years old on my system (listed below) that works well, but this P1006 is driving me nuts. HP - I hope you're scanning these forums for information about your printers. You ain't what you sued to be, I'm sorry to say. Since you're able to stamp these things out for about 4 cents in Asia I think your QA has really suffered.
If anyone has any new developments in this saga, I'd love to know about it.

  • I'm installing a new printer and know my SSID but not my Password? Where do I get it?

  • 8.1 Found Workgroup printer. I'm not on Workgroup! Need new Printer?

    Hello,
I have an Epson color 580 printer from like 15 years ago. Worked great with XP. When I tried to print with Windows 8.1, it directed me to save the file as an .xps or something. I couldn't get the .xps to print. I did some reasearch and people said to disable
the windows .xps viewer or whatever it's called in controll panel and make my printer the primary printing device. I disabled and removed the default .xps viewer and the fax under the printers section which automatically moved my printer ('USB Printer') up
from 'secondary' to 'primary' but it still wouldn't print. Then I realized I didn't install the printer driver. I put the driver CD in but nothing at all happened. I went to Epson's site and downloaded the XP driver because it was the latest version. It gave
an error after installing but I restarted and tried to print anyway. When I tried to print, it said 'no printers were set up' and asked to 'install one?' so I hit yes, but it found the printer on someone else's computer in another room of this house and I
thought I wasn't on any sort of network/workgroup sharing and I don't want to be. I had 'find printer and devices on network..." set to OFF in settings. I have eveything that I can see in settings set to not be on the Workgroup/Network sharing. I tried
"The printer that I want isn't here" but that didn't work. With XP, when I used to format, it would show me the name(s) of the workgroups during the format, and I would never join what was default named WORKGROUP. When formatting Windows 8.1, it
didn't show anything about workgroups while I installed it.
The last thing I want is to possibly have my data shared on the network. I've had 8.1 installed for a few days now but I haven't taken anything from my external drive that I saved from my XP machine in case it can be read from other computers in this house
or via Wi-Fi. I really need that data but have been waiting because of this.
So, besides letting me know how I can make sure I'm 0% on the workgroup network if that's even possible, do I need to buy a newer printer to use with windows 8.1 or can I make the Epson color 580 work?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Bill,
There is quite a few questions in your post so I will try to cover them. First, I am happy to hear your choice to use Windows 8, but regarding your workgroup issue. All Windows OS will be part of a workgroup, often called (by default)
Workgroup or Home. If any other computer on your network is using the same workgroup name and is sharing e.g. printers it might result in you see it, but my guess is, you can’t connect to it without the right username and password. Another new feature you
need to be aware of in Windows 8 is the HomeGroup feature
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/homegroup which is Workgroup on steroids and will allow users in the same HomeGroup to share content across a home network, e.g. printers, pictures movies etc. That mentioned, none of this is
enabled by default. However if you accept the network to be a home network some sharing features will be enabled (based on the location awareness in the Windows Firewall), and I guess you have accepted this otherwise network discovery wouldn’t be active –
that said, it can be differ in Windows 8 versions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_8_editions)
Regarding your printer it might be a good solution to go get e new printer, however you might be able to make it work by using a generic Epson printer driver or by using Epson Universal Printing. Unfortunately Universal Printing is for
    selected Epson printers only.
My Epson knowledge is limited, but a quick search gave me an idea, how about try to use the EPSON Creativity Suite 1.30 for Windows 7 (http://esupport.epson-europe.com/ProductHome.aspx?lng=en-IE&data=qBjAbS6NcI1PPmGd+PArU002FvIhL+ZEhLyrbsKseXRJHfYU003D&tc=6)
and see if that will do the trick – ensure you select the appropriate driver, 32-bit vs. 64-bit.

  • Hi I would be grateful if someone can help me, I have just bought a canon wireless printer, I only have an iPad so I can not install the cd that comes with the new printer yet it says it is compatible. How do I get it working I have a pay as you go 3G sim

I do not use the Internet using wifi I use 3G mobile broadband and if I do need wifi it tells me I have to pay for it, but I can not work out how to install or connect my iPad with my new printer if there is not a cd slot or USB port. I only have an iPad no computer so how on earth do I use my printer with it if it I can't install the printer cd. I though I would be able to use Bluetooth and it would pick it up automatically but I am really confused now and don't know what to do please help.

The iPad uses AirPrint technology to print to a printer. Check this Apple support page to see if your printer is listed as being AirPrint compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer works with AirPrint you will need a Wi-Fi network in order to connect. That Wi-Fi network does not need to be connected to the Internet. As James Ward4 says, you'll need a Wi-Fi router to set up your network. Most routers require that a computer be used during the setup process. Perhaps you could use someone's computer to do the setup if you do not had one yourself. Once the router is set up you should be able to print.

Printopia is another option but be aware that since these solutions effectively act as a print server and AirPrint receiver, they require a computer to be running on the same WiFi network.
Canon also has a couple of apps in the App Store that might facilitate this on non-AirPrint printers. Check out...

  • How can I add my HP Photosmart C4180 to my home network so that I can print from any of my computers

I am trying to set up my HP C4180 to my home network so that I can print from any of my computers without having to have them attached by USB.
The YouTube video I watched was for a different HP printer and the installation of my HP C4180 did not give me the option of selecting printing through a network.
I currently have the printer attached to my desktop, but do not like having to keep the desktop on just so that I can use its shared printer. Is there a way to add the printer to the network independent of my desktop?

You could buy a router that supports USB printers, but with that (and your current setup) you can only access printing, not scanning.
I recommend a new wireless printer.  They are not very expensive and can be placed anywhere in your home that has wifi access.

  • Wired Network conputer cannot find host printer

I cannot print to host printer on a home wired network.
Printer is HP Photosmart 7520 e all in one.
Host Compter is a Dell Dimension 8100

    Windows XP SP3 host computer.

    Model WNDR3400
    Network Computer:
    Nobilis
Pentium 4 dual core 2.8 GHz
    2.5 GB RAM
    Linux Mint 17 OS
Both computers share the internet without any problems.  The Dell computer prints without any problems.  The Dell computer properties 'share this printer' box is checked.  I cannot find any IP address for the printer.  When I printed out the printer configuration sheet, no IP address was given.  When I go to the Control Center->Printers->local-host on the Linux OS, it says it is 'connected to local-host' and 'There are no pinters configured yet'.  I then selected 'Add' to add a printer.  A 'New Printer' screen comes up and ask to 'Select Device' and also 'Enter URI'.  This is where I am stopped in my tracks since I have no 'URI'.  Under the 'select device' side there are several options: LPT #1, Serial Port #1, Enter URI, and 'Network Printer'.  If Network Printer is selected a dropdown list appears:  The main heading is "Find Network Printer'.  Selecting 'Find Network Printer' gives various internet protocols (ipp, ipps, https, ipp14, LPD/LPR Host or Printer, Windows printer via Samba, and APP Socket/HP Direct.
The Dell computer has alway worked fine and without problems (XP OS) on any HP printer.
This is where I am stymied!  Can someone help me from here.

Can you see the Windows computers when browsing from GO > Connect to server?
Anything different in network connection - you use wireless, they use ethernet, for example?
