Networking preferences pop-down box

When opening networking preferences I get a pop-down box saying that your networking preferences have been changed by another application. I click the OK box ( there is no other choice, although I have no idea whether this is ok or not) The pop down keeps recurring until I force quit.
Is this a potentially serious issue, the networking preferences being changed, and how can I get around the repeated pop down box, I cannot otherwise use network prefs. ... Many thanks for any help

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

  • Network settings drop down box won't go away without force quit.

When I click on network settings for any reason a drop down box appears that says "Your network settings have been changed by another application". The only option given is to click "OK". When I click "OK" the box goes up and immediately comes back down, over and over again. It will not go away until I force-quit system preferences. Any Ideas what's going on?

  • Network Preferences pop-up window that won't go away

When I click on System Preferences and then Network, I get an error message box that reads: "Your network settings have been changed by another application." When I click "OK" it keeps reappearing, and I cannot click on anything in Network Preferences and to exit I must force quit. Short of reinstalling OSX, is there a way to get rid of this message and have the ability to adjust my network preferences? I asked this question to a very harried employee at a genius bar at an Apple store a few months ago, and they said I would have to backup my computer and then do an erase and install...something that I'm not confident to do and wish to make sure that it is necessary before doing.
    Thanks, Linda

Go to preferences -> Security, and check the box that says "require a password to unlock each system preferences pane". This should prevent whatever is changing your settings from doing that.

A Fix for "Your network preferences have been changed by another application" Error
In the Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder delete the following:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    com.apple.nat.plist
You will have to re-configure all your network settings since deleting.

  • How do I make a pop up field appear corresponding to the number selected in a dropdown box e.g. 2 selected in drop down = 2 pop up boxes for details of each?

I have a form created in Adobe Pro X that has a drop down box for participants to select the number of presenters they have. Is it possible that when they select the number of people, the correct number of boxes pop up for them to enter personal details for each presenter? e.g. 2 presenters = 2 pop ups?

  • Cannot change Email Preference in Drop Down Box

All my software is up to date on Snow Leapord. I use AOL Desktop for accessing my email and it is the most current AOL Desktop for Mac 1.7.722 (722). I just did the desktop upgrade 2 weeks ago.
I can no longer send pictures through AOL.
When I go to iPhoto preferences > General > the drop down box next to "Email photos using: has "Mail" highlighted. I cannot choose anything else. They are all greyed out (AOL, Eudora and Microsoft Entourage). I don't use Eudora or Entourage so they don't matter to me, but all 3 cannot be used. I have tried everything to get it to recognize AOL but it does not.
I called AOL and they had me unistall every AOL application and file on the computer and reinstall the new AOL desktop again but this did not work either. They said it was not their problem and must be with Apple and iPhoto.
When I called Apple (I have Apple care), they gave me a work around to send photos to the desktop and then attach to an AOL email, They could not help me otherwise, but I would rather use it the way I used to. Why won't it allow me to pick AOL (Which is shown in the drop down)
    Can anyone give me help.

A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
also note that you probably can select the photo(s) and drag them to the AOL Desktop icon in the Dock to create your e-mail
I just did the desktop upgrade 2 weeks ago.
I can no longer send pictures through AOL.
To me this clearly says that the issue is AOL desktop since it worked until you upgraded and after upgrading does not

  • Network is still down after ISP Metro E box was replaced

Our carriers Metro E box went out last night in our courthouse and they had to replace it with a whole new box all together. Once they did and they got back connected on their side our whole courthouse is still down. They said nothing changed on their end. The only thing they did was switch from a Occum Metro E box to a 208 Metro E box. I dont understand why our network is still down. Ive checked our gateway switch and the config is still the same, nothing changed. Anybody seen this problem beforre where the ISP had to replace their metro E box and the network wouldnt come back up after the new install?

    You are a mite confused.
The iPhone unless the cellular data is fully off will revert to cellular even if on WiFi if the WiFi connection is not on.
You have a modem from Comcast, however do you have a wireless router? You see a modem that connects to the internet when turned off does not affect the broadcast connections to your phones if WiFi is on.
So the WiFi finds your devices however it has no access to internet services. If your wife and you have cellular turned off and you turn off the Comcast modem you have no cellular or broadband connection to anything.
In this case the Find my iPhone will show the device as off. Because there is no signal either on WiFi /modem and cellular.
    Hope that helped?

    Any help appreciated

You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

  • Outlook 2010 authentication pop up box won't go away

After we applied the latest round of Windows Updates to our guinea pig workstations, we discovered that one of them caused something to break in Outlook 2010.  We are set to use AD auto detect authentication on a local Exchange 2007 server. The pop
up window has varied, and nothing we have done has fixed it, not even uninstalling all the patches.  (After the first workstation had the bug, I installed the patches one at a time and determined its KB2553248 that breaks it.)
Mail flows normally and we can send and receive without any problems.  The pop up box can be sent to the back but cannot be minimized.
    Mine says:
    Windows Security
    Microsoft Outlook
Connecting to (my AD email address)
The OK button is grayed out.  Hitting the Cancel button breaks the connection to Exchange, and causes "Connected to Microsoft Exchange" to change over to "Need Password" on the bottom toolbar.  Clicking "Need Password" logs me in within a few seconds
without any further prompting.... but within five minutes the pop up box is back.
On the other user's computer, the pop up box says:
    Windows Security
    Please Insert a Smart Card
and prompts for credentials if she hits OK.  Like my pop up, the window can be ignored and mail flows normally.  If she hits cancel, her connection to Exchange breaks until she hits "Need Password" at which point she's logged right back in again.
Interestingly, her Outlook was never configured to authenticate with a smart card.  Like mine, it's set to Auto Detect connection type and to configure with the Windows AD login information.
We're holding off deployment of KB2553248 until we have a fix for this.  Although it does not impede mail flow it's annoying as heck, and our clients that use Outlook (all 500ish of them...) are sure to click Cancel and break their connection to Exchange
without knowing to click the Need Password again.
How can we hide this pop up box?

OK...update on my issue (which is now RESOLVED!!!) since other people may did what I did.
I looked at the following link:
    http://demazter.wordpress.com/2010/02/09/outlook-continually-prompting-for-username-and-password-2/
None of the above worked...even the kerberos method.
OL 2010 pop up box didn't say anything about connecting to where.  So I looked closely at the popup box for OL 2007...keeps on saying connecting to mail.company.com.  I was wondering why OL was trying to go outside instead of exch2010.domain.local
even though my account settings/profile is set to exch2010.domain.local.
As I was reading an article on SCP and how to locate it using adsiedit (which I couldn't figure out how),
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/douggowans/archive/2007/06/28/serviceconnectionpoints.aspx
This line in the blog got me thinking:
This url can be changed using the set-clientaccessserver cmdlet with the parameter -AutodiscoverServiceInternalURI.
That InternalURI got me thinking.  When I looked at a txtfile that I jolted down and saved of what I did during the install of Exch 2010,
    Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity "exch2010" –AutodiscoverServiceInternalURI
    https://mail.company.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "exch2010\EWS (Default Web Site)" –InternalUrl
    https://mail.company.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx
Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity “exch2010\OAB (Default Web Site)” -InternalURL
    https://mail.company.com/OAB
I figured, let's try changing them to:
    Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity "exch2010" –AutodiscoverServiceInternalURI
    https://exch2010/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
Set-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "exch2010\EWS (Default Web Site)" –InternalUrl
    https://exch2010/EWS/Exchange.asmx
Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity “exch2010\OAB (Default Web Site)” -InternalURL
    https://exch2010/OAB
I entered those commands in EMS and executed them...then I loaded up OL 2010 and OL 2007.  It's been 30 min and nothing has popped up!!!
Silly me..I think why I did mail.company.com was that I was following a couple of guides that were posted out there on the internet on exchange 2010 and they just entered mail.company.com into there.  But I think their guides are for networks where
the internal domain and external domain are the same.  ie company.com for both insdie and outside.
I am going to install KB2553248 back onto my Win 7/OL 2010 workstation and see if that breaks it.

  • Network Preferences pane gone mad

    Hi All,
After I ran an ISP supplied software CD my Network Preferences pane just went mad. Every time I open the pane immediately a window drops down carrying the message
"Your Network Settings has been changed by another application"
I click "OK' but a fraction of second later the same message drops down again. Click "OK" and the sequence repeats again; and again; and again.
In effect this prevents me from changing any Network settings manually (when the message is shown everything is blanked out)
Unfortunately I forgot to run uninstall before cancelling the service and returning the software CD to the ISP. Now I have trouble getting any information what files might have been installed.
Any ideas where to look for and that files to delete to get rid of the issue???
    Thank you in advance.
    Ivo

  • Network Preferences Madness

    Hello,
Whenever I go to “Network” in “System Preferences,” a window appears telling me the status of Built-in ethernet and Airport, followed immediately by an overlay window saying, “Your network settings have been changed by another application,” with an accompanying “OK” button. If I click the “OK” button, the window disappears, but then immediately reappears, over and over again. I can not get it to go away nor can I quit “System Preferences” unless I use “Force Quit.”
If I log out and log in again as a new account, all is well with “Network.” No problems.
I am using an Intel iMac with OS 10.4.11. The problem is constant whether or not I am connected to my cable modem or router.
What could be causing this problem? Malware?
How can I correct it? I fear that if I trash a network preferences file I will never get back on line.
    Thank you for your help.

  • How do I turn-off that annoying drop-down box with the gold key that asks me if I want Firefox to save the password?

You know what drop-down box I'm talking about. When I sign-in to an existing account, that box drops down, covering links I want to click on, asking me AGAIN if I want to save the password for 'this' [whatever site I'm on] site. NO, I DON'T! If I wanted to save the darn password, I would have clicked 'yes' about 1,000 sign-ins ago! Stop already with the asking me.! This 'gold key' feature just doesn't get it. It is a huge nusiance. Why isn't there a box to click that says "DON'T ASK ME AGAIN"?

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Site Preferences".

  • Why do I get a pop up box everytime I plug something into USB since SL

I am trying to use my garmin plug in and skycaddie to transer data to my laptop via the USB plug in and I keep the following pop up box
A NEW NETWORK INTERFACE HAS BEEN DETECTED
THE "USB" NETWORK INTERFACE HAS NOT BEEN SET UP. TO SET UP THIS INTERFACE, USE NETWORK PREFERENCES"
I never had this problem with either device prior to installing Snow Leopard. Can someone help me out? Thanks so much.

You need updated software for SL..
I'm also waiting for updated software for the ZTE MF 636 USB modem to access the Mobile network for internet access. I get exactly the same message and no news as to when or if the software will be updated.

  • The lock in the Network Preferences opens automatically

My 6 months old intel-based iMac is connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable and a router. For about 4 months there was no problem. Then suddenly I kept being disconnected from the internet for no obvious reason. When I looked into the network preferences I noticed that the lock, which prevents changes of the settings and which can be opened only with the password, had opened AUTOMATICALLY without anybody entering the password. After I close the lock and reset the router I can go online again, after a day or so the same happens again. What could be the reason for this?

    Hi
Try this, go to Security and Privacy in System Preferences and unlock if locked, then tick the second box down in "For all accounts on this computer" called "require an administrator password to access system preferendes with lock icons"
    Fingers crossed.
