Networking scanner

first time networking... have two printers connected through a USB hub to the airport extreme.  Also have an HP scanner I'd like to network.  Can I do this?
Is there a way to add the scanner in systems preferences and enable sharing?

I have an HP OfficeJet 7130 All-In-One printer. I bought an HP Jetdirect 250m Print Server for it. The 250m plugs right into the LIO port on the printer and you can stick it right on the network.
You can download the HP AiO software for the Mac and you can install it over the network, but the HP setup software will not complete the installation. HP tech support has no clue why the installation doesn't complete nor do they seem to care; however, you can print to the printer and you can use the scanner software (HP Image Zone) to scan images over the network. I've also scanned images directly into Photoshop and Acrobat.
I've used this setup for a couple of years to scan images. The setup isn't perfect. The printer seems to occasionally get lost and you have to uninstall and reinstall the software just to find the printer/scanner again. Maybe it would work better if I had a static network or had a real DNS server instead of my home network that, like most home networks, doesn't have any DNS support.
I can't use the automatic document feeder, but it will scan individual pages put on the glass scanner.
This is just something that I did. Not sure if this helps you at all.

  • How do i get mavericks image capture to see a networked scanner?

we have a networked scanner, an imac & a mac mini. prior to upgrading the imac to mavericks from snow leopard [mini is still on snow leopard], neither had any issues using image capture with the scanner. since upgrading the imac to maverics, when i start up image capture, it does not see the scanner as a shared device, even though it is seen in the system pref/printer-scanner app. i have to reboot the imac to get the image capture to see the scanner. i am in the middle of scanning hundreds, if not a thousand, of old photos & this is a PITA.

Assuming the iTunes and AppleTV are set for Home Sharing, navigate to the iTunes library listing under Computers on AppleTV - there should be a new Rentals row along with Music, TV Shows etc.
The movie must download fully to iTunes before becoming available.  Also check it's still in iTunes and hasn't expired due to playing it inadvertently too soon.

  • Accessing files created by network scanner using a another username

    Hello there,
I have a HP network scanner sending files directly to a shared folder on my OSX 10.9.
Since it uses SMB and OSX wants me to "save the password in a less secure way" in the sharing options panel I have been using a specific "Sharing-only" user account named "scanner", which is sharing its SMB password, instead of my "myself" administrator account.
Files are saved to the shared folder but owned by "scanner". How can I open/manage them with "myself" administrator account too?
I don't want, of course, to apply specific privileges everytime via the Info panel.
    Thanks
    L.

Yeah, I get your point, this is right.
Although my concern is not sniffing scanner login activity but SMB options panel says that my shared account password is "saved with less security", I guess it has to do with SMB less secure hashing than OSX and I wanted to avoid someone locally accessing this hash. Maybe it's a useless concern...
Anyway I think I'm lacking some basic network file permissions knowledge, it should be possible to perform that.

  • Network Scanner not connecting

Our company has recently purchased an Avision @V6600 Network Scanner and I am having touble setting it up to scan to our iMac. It keeps saying "CIFS not supported" and to check if it can be supported. Does anyone have any ideas? Or does anyone have any experience with those scanners?

Hello, CIGS is the same as SMB, so it may help to enable Windows Sharing in Sys Prefs Sharing.
Also, haven't tried this in 10.8 myself, but...

Did you lose your shared folders with the update of Mac OS X from Snow Leopard to Lion? You can’t see your shared folders from your DVR or Medicaneter boxes hooked up to your TV? The internet tells you to install gigabytes of developer tools and use tons of command-line instructions to regain the ability to see your mac from your other devices in the house after moving to Lion? We might be able to help.

  • Use Time Capsule as storage/scan location from a Toshiba Network Scanner

We have a Time Capsule set up in our office and I have a network share on it that I would like to set up as the location for scans to go to from our Toshiba Networked Scanner/Printer.
I don't know what I am doing wrong but it isn't working.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is the TC setup with SMB names.. because I am pretty sure the Tosiba won't talk AFP.
SMB names are short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric. Apple names.. have spaces and horrible characters like the apostrophe.
Did you set a windows workgroup in the file sharing area?
Also it can help to turn on guest account to give read and write access. See if those fix it.

  • SMB and Network Scanner/Printer

    MacBook Pro -> 10.5.6
I just received back my MacBook Pro from Apple repair last week. I reinstalled from Time Machine and all is fine . . . except . . . file sharing to Windows.
We have a network scanner/printer on the network. I can print with no problems to the printer. I cannot get a scan sent to my computer from the printer/scanner. And yes this worked fine before.
    1. I have SMB enabled and entered in my password.
    2. I have repaired permissions
    3. Windows computers cannot see my computer. (I see the name however, I cannot access the folders.
    4. The scanner/printer which has worked fine till my repair at apple (new HD) is not working anymore. Says computer is not found.

Unless your problem is identical to one in an existing post, it's rarely appropriate to tack a post onto an existing thread. Also, as Apple doesn't officially monitor this discussion group, this isn't the best place to request anything from Apple. Unless this is what you meant by "submitted a feature request", you might have better luck posting here:

I have an all-in-one HP 3180 which i purchased from Apple with a new Mac. I recently connected it to my new 2TB time machine but now I cannot scan.
Please don't confuse "Time Machine" (backup software that's included with Mac OS X) with "Time Capsule" (an Apple Wi-Fi router with an integrated disk drive).
Is it too much to ask that HP & apple work together to create a solution to provide for scanning support over TC.
I don't know. Have you contacted HP technical support? Does either Apple or HP represent that they support what you're trying to do?
If it's possible to share the scanner when it's connected to a mac why not when it's connected to a TC.
Perhaps because a Mac has specific drivers for such a scanner, while a Time Capsule doesn't.

  • Please recommend a network scanner?

I already have a dell multifunction laser, which does scanning, but on mac it requires running some python script then going to the printer, pressing some buttons, and after a few tries itll usually generate a pdf.. its all a bit flaky
So Im looking for a document scanner for my iMac (mostly to scan paper business receipts, expenses, business cards and train tickets etc).
Id like a network scanner, but Im having a hard time finding one as they are mostly USB

I am using the Epson Artisan 730. It scans using Image Capture with out any problems what so ever.

  • Networked scanner driver

    Hello!
I am thinking about writing a little utility for my scanner.
Basically I want to network it. Scanner is HP 4100c and it is USB
based. We usually use NT so that scanner cannot be used unless Win98 is
available. Cannot stand Win98. So the question is, where do I start?
I know that LView has good networking and remote control
capabilities. So remote control is no problem (thank you NI). How do I
deal with the scanner driver. Should I do like SANE (Linux networked
scanner drivers) does and talk directly to the scanner, or should I try
to deal with TWAIN interface for this scanner. Any suggestions
appreciated! Also how do I deal with USB in LabVIEW. I also want this
to be a quickie project so any experience
    s will be very appreciated.
    Thank you!
p.s. TWAIN is rather archaic, isn't it?

I have used TWAIN and if you are looking for a quickie app. You may be dissapointed.
I found the TWAIN learning curve a bit steep and if you don't have proper
    documentation
it will be quite an uphill battle especially if you have a close deadline.
    The Linux
choice may be good however I have know experience dealing with this.

  • How can I get applications to detect a network scanner?

Running 27" iMac with OS-X 10.7.2, all Software Updates are installed.
Epson Workforce 630 attached via ethernet network. Driver is current at 8.61.
System Preferences>Print and Fax lists the printer and has a tab for the scanner. Scanning via this interface works fine.
Preview will detect and scan without problem, but Image Capture does not detect the scanners. Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Pro X do not detect my network scanners. Adobe support is no help. No problems with Apple products appear to be theirs, ever.
Epson drivers according to their website are installed through Software Update -- current.
But Acrobat will not detect the Epson over the network.
Note that my wife's iMac OSX 10.6.8 has the same problem.
    Anybody got a clue?
    Thanks!

You may be paying extra but what speed are you actually getting? Open Activity Monitor, click the Network button at the bottom and watch the Data received/sec speed while you're downloading different things. That will give you the actual transfer rate, not the advertised transfer rate.
Something like Adobe Flash shouldn't take long because it's only about 18 MB; how big is something that seems to lag? Is your internet connection wireless or are you using an Ethernet connection with a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor? Wired is almost always faster. And with Mavericks being over 5 GB, it'll take a while under the best of circumstances, especially since the transfers I've observed of it don't run anywhere near what a fast connection is capable of.

  • SOLVED! HP Officejet 6500A E710 will not stay connected to the network. scanner not connected

After 5 hours of live remote HP tech support, and 10 more hours of web searching, I am happy to say I have solved the wireless network connection issue with scanning and printing using the HP Officejet 6500A E710n-z.  I notice that there are a lot of people with similar issues with no common, successful fix.  Here is what worked for me.
    Background Info:
Upgraded internet service from 9Mbps to 27Mbps...Provider brought out new Arris DG860 modem/router.  Configured network and connected all clients (smart phones, PCs, Tablets, etc) successfully accept the printer.  With this new router/modem the printer/scanner/fax would not connect to my PC at all (Windows 7 64-bit).  The Officejet was always connected to the network, however, anytime I tried to print I would get an error "Unable to connect to the printer...", and when I made an attempt to scan.."Scanner not connected, make sure it is connected to the network..." blah blah blah.
    Process:
After searching the web for solutions with no success, I finally made my first call to HP tech support.  Tech tried numerous fixes: many network changes (channel, static IP, etc.), made changes to Windows system settings and registry, installed new software and drivers, ran the scan doctor, partial, semi, and full reset on the printer.  He changed my wifi channel to 6 (or 11) from AUTO and whola.  That seemed to fix the problem.  After hanging up the phone 10 minutes later "No connection" errors again.  Made a second call to HP Tech Support, and this new tech basically tried all the same fixes as the first tech.  Worked again for 10-15 minutes then disconnected.  Made third call to tech and this individual tried the same fixes as the previous two, but to no avail.  He said he would have to direct me to a more Advanced Technician and would call back tomorrow.  They called back the next day, and this new tech fixed the issue within 20 minutes.
    Problem/Solution:
The fourth "more advanced" tech made one change in my network configuration settings.  He changed my network mode from B/G/N to B/G and now the printer/scanner/fax stays connected and works like brand new.  The only problem is that all my devices (including the Officejet) are 802.11N capable.  Setting my network to the old B/G mixed mode slows my speed down just a bit.  Using B/G/N mode or N, my download speed is 27 Mbps.  On B/G mixed my speed is 25Mbps.  Not too big of a deal, though.  All the HP Support Techs were very nice and helpfull.  They refunded my $25 Tech fee [fee charged when product is out of warranty] because the problem is not "technically" solved, even though it does work.  Conclusio:  This seems to be an issue with my the modem/router provided by my ISP.  Could also be that it is an older Officejet and need to upgrade.    To Fix Follow the Steps Below:
Step 1:  Find your default gateway IP...usuall 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or similar.  Type this IP into your web address bar and hit enter.
Step 2:  Enter the username and password.  This is normally set at factory default --> username: admin ....passowrd: password .... or .... admin
Step 3: Go to the "Wireless Setup" tab and under the "Advanced Options" and "Wireless Network Settings" change the "Wireless Mode" to "B/G mixed".
Step 4:  Click "Apply" then close the browser.
You may, or may not, lose your wifi connection for a short period while the new settings are applied and you may, or may not, have to power cycle your modem/router.  That's it.  Worked for me and I hope it works for you too.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to post.

OK, that all sounds right.  Here are a few more router config ideas:
    1. Make sure that 802.11g mode is available, along with others is OK, but 'g' must be present.
    2. Change the channel to 11.
    3. Use WPA or WPA/WPA2 encryption, not WPA2 only.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Unable to use network scanner

BACKGROUND:  I have a Win XP PC and Brother MFC-5440CN (network ready printer/scanner/fax/copier) with wire connections to my new WRT54GS (v6).  The WRT54GS replaced a D-link wired router.
PROBLEM:  I can't scan.  Printing works fine.
WHAT HAVE I TIRED:  Disabled  all software firewalls on PC but that didn't help.
REASON I'M ASKING HERE:  Printing and scanning both worked fine when I had both devices connected to my old D-link wired router, so I'm thinking the problem may be a setting with the WRT54GS.
QUESTION:  Suggestions?  Troubleshooting ideas?  Am I missing a setting on the WRT54GS?
    Thanks for you help.

try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers.....if this doesn't work , seems to be a router issue...

  • Windows 8.1 can't use older Brother DCP8040 network scanner drivers

There are a  lot of older multifunction centers and scanners that will not scan across a network to a windows 8.1 pc. Upon migration to 8.1 many of us are losing our ability to scan across our networks.  I have a lot of Brother DCP8040 machines
out there.  Brother refuses to rewrite and support network scanning capabilities under win 8.1 for its older machines.  The drivers we now have support network scanning under XP, Vista and win 7... but not under win 8.1.  Win 8.1 cannot
find the scanner on the network.  I can connect a DCP8040 directly to a win 8.1 pc, load the drivers and both print and scan.  I can print across the network, but cannot scan.  Again, windows 8.1 cannot find the scanner on the network.
Anyone know of any 3rd party solution where the older scanner drivers can be used under win 8.1?  My clients refuse to migrate to win 8.1 as it means they have to trash the older MFC's and make considerable investments in new equipment.
I am reading that the same problems are being experienced with older HP, Epson, and Cannon scanners.  Someone has to come up with a generic solution.

Maybe you've been at it too long.  That is an answer/comment in typical MS big business mentality.  You are dramatizing the whole thing to suit your premise.  You are overestimating the time necessary to write the driver and you are understating
the significance/size of the problem and the potential return. Stocks of the Brother DCP8040 are still being sold new and refurnished.  Literally millions of other brands and models are being affected.  So it is not like these machines wont be around
tomorrow.  Its not like the problem is not significant enough to draw attention.
If you've really been around that long, go back and think about when you started.  If I had a dime for every solution that was sold as freeware "as is"  with no support and the condition "if it works, if works, if not,
sorry".  But so many have worked and have provided a solution.
I am not suggesting that anyone should jeopardize their personal or corporate well being or devote their entire work week to solve the problem. There are many out there who will write the thing and put it out there as freeware, collecting
donations, just to see if they can do it or help the situation.  There are those who even relax buy doing such things, "solving the problem."  I mean, if it takes 5-40 hours work, I would be surprised. I myself can write, but I just don't
understand enough about the workings of a printer driver across a network to do the job.
Again, WHERE ARE YOU?  And the proof in my words would be for someone to take the task and do it. Again, HEY, WHERE ARE YOU GUYS?

  • Is there a cups for scanner settings so I can manually change the ip address of a networked scanner?

Here are some facts: I have an ActionTec router from Verizon FiOS that will not support Bonjour bridged from the wireless network to the wired network. Until recently, I was able to scan wirelessly because the HP Printer Scanner (4500, wired network only) was setup prior to my upgrading to Lion. Recently, I had to reinstall the printer driver and re-add the printer in Lion. Without Bonjour support, I was only able to add the printer by connecting my MacBook Pro (2011) to a port on the router. Then, Bonjour allowed me to "add" the printer, and I had both the Print and Scan tabs.
I was able to edit the IP address for the printer manually using cups printers.conf. I can only assume that somewhere in the system, there is a simlar file that keeps track of the IP address for the scanner functionality. Anyone know where that is? My guess is if I can edit the IP address in the scanner settings I'll go back to having wireless scanning ability, too.
    Thanks!
    rock

I'm not aware of an entry similar to the printers.conf that lists the scanner's connection. The scanner driver plugins are located in /Library/Image Capture/Devices and /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources, depending on what scanning applications your device supports. Possibly under the Devices folder will be a HP package and within this could be the entry you are looking for?
Also, if you open System Information and select the Printers entry, you will see the Printer that you created when the Mac was hard wired to the router and it should also show the support for the scanner for this connection. With reference to my Canon MP990 that is wireless, it shows the network address using Bonjour and that scanning is supported, but there is not much else for the scanner entries - apart from a UUID that tells you very little. Also note that the URI only mentions the printer component, so I don't think that having this information will help.
      URI: dnssd://Canon%20MP990%20Bonjour._printer._tcp.local./
      PPD: Canon MP990 series
      PPD File Version: 10.57.2.0
      PostScript Version: (3010.000) 705
      CUPS Version: 1.6svn (cups-327)
      Scanning support: Yes
      Scanning app (bundleID path): -
      Scanning app version: -
      Scanner UUID: FAB77E28-FAB7-7E28-FAB7-7E28FAB77E28
And one last thing to note -  the scanner component is not visible in the CUPS web page. Only the printer component can be viewed and modified. So there is not going to be a similar file within CUPS you can modify.
