Networking Software for Users

Hi
I would like to find out if there is any way I can limit internet cap's to network users in the Active Directory?
Like for example the users in the Teachers group under the active directory gets an internet cap of 1GB data per month, and users in the Students group gets 100mb data per month...
Is this possible? If it is, can someone please help me in the correct direction?
Or suggest any software I can buy to get this done?
I have tried the software of Untangle (untangle.com) , but this messed up our whole network and which almost made the entire server crash.

The directory is designed to handle a large number of read and search operations and a significantly smaller number of changes and updates. Active Directory is a special-purpose
database. Therefore you can’t use the AD for the network follow auditing.
Base on my experience, if you want to audit the user network flow you must choose some third party management solution, such SANGFOR Internet Access Management.

Networking software for mac similar to Novelle?

The IT guy at my work said that he would be willing to explore using macs at my work if there was some networking software availalble for mac. I know nothing about this, though he mentioned an application named "Novelle." Does anyone know if there are any programs out there for mac that compare with "Novelle?"

The program I think you are talking about it "Novell". There is a program on the Mac called "Kanaka" it is made by Condrey Consulting. http://www.condreyconsulting.com/production/PRODUCTS/Kanaka/Kanaka.htm.

Creating Network homes for Users in AD

I am trying to create some Network Homes to use for our Macs on campus. I have created the share and everything, but when I go to "Create Home Now" inside of Workgroup Manager it always gives me an error. The error is very generic so I am not sure what it means. All of our Users are stored in AD and OD just authenticates through AD. Is this a problem? Can you not create network homes for AD users?

Here is the error I get in Console when I try:

Social network software for C3?

I have been trying to download the new social software from OVI to my Nokia C3
According to OVI, there are about 6 free social apps for C3, but when I try to download them, I either get an error message "no longer avialable for C3) or if I can download it, it doesn't fwork (incorrect file format, etc.). The only one I got to work was SMS my position, which has only 3 trials in kthe free version!
When will OVI have social software which works on the new Symbian 3 platform, and will a firmware upgrad of my C3 solve this problem?

Why do you need social software when you have communities in your menu , and emal, and thhey are very simple and useful. Witch social network software do you need I will try to help you.

Controlling network access for user accounts

Can anyone suggest a way to control airport access to a wireless network?
I have an iMac G4 with AirPort running Tiger that I'd like to set up for a young teen to practice doing some video editing. I'd like to have network access disabled under normal circumstances, but be able to enable it easily during times when there is supervision.
Ideally, I'd like to have the airport icon in the menubar and select a network to join causing a prompt for an administrator password. I can't seem to get anywhere close to that. Any help would be appreciated.

The two choices I have are:
- when changing networks
- when creating a computer-to-computer network
The first almost gets me what I want, there are two problems with this as I see it.
1. when the computer comes up and automatically logs in, the user is greeted by authentication dialogs. (AirPort trying to connect?) I'd like to configure AirPort not to automatically try to connect and therefore not produce these dialogs.
2. once approved, the network stays approved until the next reboot. I'd like to not be forced to reboot just to "lock down" the network again.
Any help on those two points?

Iphone connection to a Vista ad hoc connection: "waiting for users"

I am trying to create an 'Ad hoc' connection between my iPhone and a Windows Vista laptop. After I have set up the ad hoc network on the laptop I am able to see the network in the iPhone's list of WiFi connections and clicking on this shows that it connects (the little tick appears next to the connection name and it appears to receive an IP address). However, when I return to Vista it says that it is "Waiting for users to connect".
I have tried various solutions to this problem, including resetting the network settings on the iPhone, recreating the ad hoc network in Vista (with and without security), and manually changing some of the adapter settings with Vista... all to no avail!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might force the connection to be made?

Actions on the phone:Phone finds the network. It tries to connect -> Ok
But, on the laptop varies nothing...
The laptop incorporates to other laptop on ad-hoc. Phone too incorporates to other laptop on ad-hoc.

Wireless network management software for iMac?

Hello all
I am running a home WLAN via a cable modem + Belkin N Wireless Router, with my Intel iMAc wired to the router, and 3 PC's with wireless connections.
All running perfectly!
However - I would like to be able to control the network from the Mac, specifically as follows:
- have visibility of all machines connected at any time
- have visibility of the bandwidth consumption of each machine
- be able to "bandwidth throttle" each machine, ie allocate maximum "shares of bandwidth"
- be able to schedule bandwidth throttling per machine, as well as set manually
Is there any software that does this for the Mac, and that is recommended by users on this board?
Note that I have zero understanding of router functionality and therefore accept that this question may or may not make sense!

Yes there are controls in the router to manage internet access for each client on the network but they are simply of the yes / no variety - allowing the admin to just turn access on or off.
My teenage kids use Internet access for a variety of (legitimate!) purposes but my ISP (Virgin Media) imposes automatic "traffic management" bandwidth throttle on my connection (from 10 MBPS to 1 MBPS for 5 hours) if our overall bandwidth consumption exceeds 1,200 MB between 4pm and 9pm (http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/internet/traffic.html)
Needless to say, getting my kids to monitor and limit their own traffic during this period is impossible - so I would like to be able to automate the policing of traffic levels fairly amongst 3 concurrent users during the trigger time slot 4pm - 9pm without having to resort to a blunt "on/off" policy.
From your reply I guess that my router provider (Belkin) would be the best source of information regarding available software for this - assuming it exists ...?

Trying to find Windows 7 driver / software for OfficeJet 4500 (CB867A) connected using Wired Network

I am trying to use my Son-in-Law's HP OfficeJet 4500 CB867A (G510G). I am able to SUCCESSFULLY:
Communicate using a browser with the printer (e.g. http:\\192.168.10.139)
Print from my Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB phone using the HP Android software. If finds the printer just find and prints just fine.
Thus the printer looks to be connected successfully to the network. (Wouldn't you agree?)
The problem is installing the printer on our various Windows 7 Ultimate x64 systems. Right now I've only been trying my workstation (Dell T7500). When I follow the directions what comes down is the basic driver and software. The basic driver and software ONLY supports USB. I cam to this conclusion throgh two facts:
The documentation on the download page, when you look at the details says only supports USB. This is true for G510A and G510G. I didn't try G501N, as it is wireless. Maybe it is really Wire and Wireles . . .
I can't get the setup Wizard to try to find the printer through anything but USB.
How do I get Windows 7 to recognize this WIRED (e.g. Cat7 cable) HP All-in-One printer?

After downloading and installing this software, I got two icons on the desktop. They both (in their own ways) insisted on using USB to connect to the printer. One was a HP Solution Center and the other a HP Printer Setup icon/program.

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

Deployment issue - Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'

I am attempting to deploy a site from my development PC to my server. I have no issues running the site on the server using VS2010 Express Web in debug. All page queries are working within the debugger. The connection strings are identical between the PC
and Server, except the host name.

You receive either of these error messages specifically when you use integrated security.
To resolve you can use one of below.
Method 1: Programmatically change the security context of the ASP.NET worker process to a user who has the correct SQL Server permissions.
Method 2: Change the default configuration of ASP.NET so that the ASP.NET worker process starts and runs under the context of a user who has the correct permissions in SQL Server.
Method 3: Grant the correct permissions in SQL Server so that the ASPNET account (or NetworkService account, for an application that runs on IIS 6.0) has the appropriate access to the required resources.(Go to the Computer Management >> Local User and
Groups >> Groups >> Right Click and go to properties on IIS_IUSRS >> Add appropriate user.

Did you try the solution given, and if yes, did it work?
I have done several "attempted downloads, and see the full file download, typically taking 30 minutes to complete, and then something goes wrong.
I am happy to suspend AV and FW software, but would like to know if it is a good fix or not first?
