Networking through an OS 9 server.

I have a G3 running OS 9.2. I am networked to it through a FireWire router. I also have a G4 running OS 10.4.9 on the same network as well as a PowerBook G4. All of the stations can see each other on the network as well as exchange files. The G3 has an Epson r2400 connected to it through a USB hub which also has a scanner on it.
The G3 can print to the Epson without any difficulty. The G3s USB Printer Sharing window indicates that the Epson is to be shared over the USB line connected to the G3.
When I go to my G4 running OS 10.4.9, I can't find the Epson printer on the network. I have the Epson's OS 10 driver installed on the G4 and its OS 9 driver installed on the G3. I've hooked the printer up directly to the USB port in the back of the G3 thinking it might be the USB hub but I still have the same problem.
I'm stumped!
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Dumb-founded in Dallas

OS 9's USB printer sharing is OS 9-to-OS 9 only (you could install the USB printer sharing CP on Classic within OS X and Classic apps will be able to print).
To print from OS X through the OS 9 server you'll have to get creative. One way is to use the free Print66 LPD server software for OS 9:
http://homepage.mac.com/barijaona/print66/
Then, to print from OS X, you'll be using a CUPS driver, not the Epson-provided driver (which doesn't do network printing). Gimp-Print drivers are included in OS X, and there's an update (now called Gutenprint) that includes more, newer models of Epson:

  • Printing on a Wireless Network through a Wireless Print Server Resolved

    Ok,
I have been working on this all day and no one at apple could help me.
I have a linksys router with a dlink print server hooked up to it.
my macbook would not recognize the printer. if I added it manually it wouldnt print. so I was trying to find a solution myself. I was thinking if the Printer Queue Name was the issue. It was, that must be correctly entered for the printer to work. Now my Leopard will print.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Nick

This will not be specifically helpful, but it MAY help you get started.
I had the same problem too, when initially setting up wireless printing for my Mac Pro.
I ended up specifying the IP address of the wireless printer server and to identify the print q name, I printed out a status sheet from the printer.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to restrict users working on Windows 7 clients from accessing Windows Explorer and other systems in the network through Group Policy with a domain controller running on Windows Server 2008 r2

    Dear All,
We are having an infrastructure setup of around 500 client computers managed through group policy.
Recently the domain controllers have been migrated from Windows Server 2003 to Server 2008 R2.
Since this account requires extremely strict environment, we need to figure the solution for restricting the users from access anything locally.
It would be great if you can assist me with the following query.
How to restrict users logged on Windows 7 clients from accessing Windows Explorer and browsing other systems in the network through Group Policy with a domain controller running on Windows Server 2008 r2 ?
Can we disable Network Tab on the left hand pane ?
explorer.exe is blocked already, but users are able to enter the Windows Explorer by clicking on the name which is visible on the Start Menu.

You cannot block explorer.exe when you do not replace the shell - the
desktop you see effectively IS explorer.exe...
Your requirement sounds like you need a custom shell:

  • Appletalk network through Linksys seems impossible to set up...

I wonder if anyone might have an idea why I seem unable to get an Appletalk network set up between my MDD G4 1.25 and my new iMac with Leopard?
I'm trying to establish an ethernet network through a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 543 mbps router.
I've followed all the steps involved... I've set both computers to:
    Appletalk on
Share printer in the security pane
    Automatically configure the ethernet
I've loaded the printer driver in both computers.
But I've had no luck whatsoever with any of it.
I can't even get the network to show up in the Network Utility.
I can't get the printer to show up in the add new printer setup...
I've tried unplugging the router and changing the ethernet cable plug-ins.
It all sounds so easy in the instructions at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106658
Does this sound like a hardware problem?
    I'm totally flummoxed....
    Thanks for any ideas...

"Anyhow, I've turned on printer sharing, Appletalk, no-sleep with both machines on and the printer on... and still I can't get any sign of an Appletalk network showing up."
What sign are you looking for? I think you're being distracted by all this talk about Appletalk. You won't automatically see the disks of the other computers, nor will you automatically see the shared printer from the other computers. Once computers are on the network, which your are if, for example, you can browse the internet, then in order to see each other's hard disks you have to mount them.
The following describes 10.4; I don't know how much different it might be on 10.5. If I remember correctly, it was much the same in 10.3, but it's been a while.
On computer #1, in System Preferences, Sharing, it will tell you something like "Other computers on your local subnet can access your computer at ...", and some name will be in place of the ...
On computer #2, in the Finder's "Go" menu select "Connect to Server." Type in the name you saw in the preference pane on #1.
If the printer you want shared is on #1, then on #2 you have to go to the Printer Setup utility and look for the shared printer there. In my limited experience, it's not too hard to find a shared printer in the Printer Setup Utility.

  • Unable to connect to network through repeater

    Hi
I Cannot join network through the wireless repeater.  My Iphone 4 works fine next to the router but when I walk downstairs it disconnects.  It can 'see' the repeater as the signal goes to full before disconnecting.  I have tried resetting networks ect but this does not help.  Everytime I put the password in it says 'unable to join network' but works fine if I go near the main router or switch the repeater off.
It used to work fine untill I got sky on demand. when I connected this through the repeater it seems to have kicked my phone out??  i have since removed the on demand but still cant get my iphone to work.  My girlfriends Galaxy also doesn't get signal through the repeater either.  Any help please

  • Need help with network user accounts on Mac server App on Yosemite, any tips?

I've been trying to set up a small network with the Server app on Yosemite. I don't want to do anything crazy with the server, I'd just like to know how I can set up network user accounts so that they can login from other Mac computers on the same network. I already have Open directory set up, the Macs that will be used on the network with the server have already been joined to the server under login options. I have created the network user account, I have also joined the user account to a group that I created. When I try to login to the network account from one of the Macs, it doesn't work. I'm pretty rookie with Mac server, can anyway give me any pointers of what I should be doing? Or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks guys.

The most important step, once you've got Open Directory and DNS set up, with Local Network Users set up in Server.app, is to make sure that all client Macs are using the server's IP address as the primary DNS server in System Preferences > Network, and that they have joined the Network server in System Preferences > Users and Groups > Login Options.
Having said all that, I have just spent hours setting this all up only to find out that Mail doesn't currently work with Network Homes in 10.10.3 / Server.app 4.1.
I will be hoping that Apple recognise the bug, and put out a fix soon.

  • How can I know which clients are connected to my network through express and which are connected through extreme?

I have an airport express extending, through wireless, a network provided by an airport extreme. How can I know which clients are connected to my network through express and which are connected through extreme?
Here you can see both routers:
I would expect to some clients connected to the express, other than the extreme. And that's all I see: only the airport extreme appears as client of the airport express.
Below, one can see the summary of the config for both routers.
    Would somebody explain it?
    Thanks,

  • Network Positioning of a Windows Server 2012 R2 Direct Access & VPN Server

Reposted moved from Windows Server Forums- Security
    Hi
I'm in the process of creating a new active directory forest with a single domain using AD.Contoso.com to use the Microsoft example. The reason I have decided on AD.XXXXXXXXX.com is to get way from using split horizon (Split Brain) DNS. The requirements
for our new domain are :-
    2012 R2 AD
    Direct Access & VPN
Exchange 2013 OWA, Active Sync Outlook Anywhere (Possibly a Hybrid Config where we have on premises mailboxes and some exchange online mailboxes Office 365 etc)
    Lync 2013 ?
    SharePoint 2013 ?
    Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services
System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2
Two way trusts between old forest and new to enable Transition/Migration
Ok so that's what I'm aiming for so now the question.
They are allowing me to purchase a next Generation Firewall may be a Barracuda NG firewall or a Cisco ASA X series so I need some advice on what type of network topology I should configure. I've read that using the two NIC configuration for
the 2012 R2 Direct Access Server is preferable, one nic on the internal network one on the perimeter. The problem I have with this is that it bridges the internal network and the perimeter bypassing the backend Firewall see image
The other alternative is to dispense with the perimeter network use the Direct Access server with a single NIC and setup the NG Firewall in a three-legged config with the DA server on the DMZ.
So all you security experts out there what would be your design for this simple domain? we don't need any HA or Load Balancing.
    Thanks
    Simon

Ok I'm not sure we are going to get any advice on this subject but one last effort. Our budget can only stretch to one next generation firewall so I'm considering the following three legged firewall design with a two NIC 2012 R2 Direct
Access server. If someone could validate this configuration or suggest an alternative then I would be grateful.

  • Serious bug in Weblogic when connecting to a remote website through a local proxy server (proxyHost, proxyPort)

    Hi there,
It seems that there is a serious problem with any version of Weblogic when you
have to pass through a local proxy server to connect a remote website.
Whenever I am trying to run the jsp program below either with Weblogic 7.0 SP2
or even with Weblogic 8.1, I get the following exception :
An error occured: Tried all: '1' addresses, but could not connect over HTTP to
    server: 'www.sun.com', port: '80'
When I run the same program outside Weblogic, it works fine. Other people have
already reported the same problem either in this newsgroup or on Internet forums,
and up to now, the problem is not fixed yet.
In fact, Weblogic seems to block when it performs the connect() method to the
proxy, my jsp program hangs a few minutes before returning the error message shown
    above.
If anyboby can tells me how this problem can be solved (or maybe via a workaround)
do not hesitate to keep me informed, thanks in advance.

    Hello,
The way to set the HTTP connection using a proxy server changed (from
    using the system property
weblogic.webservice.transport.http.proxy.host/port)[1] in WLS 7.x to the
standard JDK 1.4 system properties [2] in WLS 8.1.
I would recommend opening a dialog with our outstanding support team [3]

  • Accessing my home network through the internet?

Is it possible to access my home network through the internet via my AirPort Express? I would like to have full access to my Mac Mini's hard drive from my MacBook while at work.

Yes. You will need to enable file sharing on your Mac Mini (via Sharing in System Preferences) and then you will need to port forward all your ports (since I don't know exactly what file sharing method you will be using) of your Mac Mini via the AirPort Utility.

I'm trying to connect my A/V Receiver in another room to my network without having to run a CAT5 cable all the way to the router.  I'd rather be able to connect it to my airport express if it will work that way.

    Yes.....IF
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" version configured to "join a wireless network" and you have enabled the option to "Enable Ethernet Clients"
    Or
You have an AirPort Express 802.11"n" configured to "extend a wireless network" from another Apple "n" router, in which case the Ethernet port is enabled by default
