Networking two dissimilar iMacs

I have two iMacs as indicated below and just wondering if there is any way to set them up as a local LAN sharing as direct connect vice going through another piece of equipment.
If it requires a router, I am using an Airport Extreme with the Intel machine wireless and the iMac 700 wired. I also have a Wireless HP Printer that is connected to both machines through the Airport so the setup would have to keep this intact. If necessary, I believe I can connect the Intel machine double duty both wireless and Ethernet.
Thanks

In Finder can each computer see the other? If they cannot then check Finder's preferences (Command ,) and look in the Sidebar tab to see if Connected Server and Bonjour Computers are checked. If they are you should be able to see each computer. To access the files then click on the shared computer in Finder's sidebar. In the upper left it should show connecting. If it does then in a few moments you will be able to see the folders on the other computer and be able to navigate and move files and folders. It's really that easy. If you still cannot then I'd recommend visiting your Apple Store and sitting down with a Genius who can show you how to do this.
... when I first started the Intel there was a program for downloading the software to the Intel and the iMac 700 showed up on the desktop on the Intel and after logging on I had full access to the hard drive.
You are referring to Migration Assistant, this is used to migrate information from an old Mac to a new one. It is not designed for day to day use moving files back and forth. To learn more about MA open your dictionary and type in Migration Assistant and you will find a nice article in Wikipedia.

  • Connect two Intel iMacs with Ethernet

I wish to transfer files between two Intel iMacs running 10.4.9. I have a suitable ethernet cable I think. I tried to follow an illustrated article online and got as as far as using GO>ConnectServer. The resulting dialogue box 'sees' the other computer and I am then asked to enter my password as a registered user. The login password happens to be the same for both machines but the passwork is not accepted.
I have tried to connect as a guest, but this only gives me a drop box that refuses to open because of insufficient privildges.
Rather confused now. Any suggestions from those more enlightened please??

Sounds like your connected with file sharing on, you stated "I have tried to connect as a guest, but this only gives me a drop box that refuses to open because of insufficient privileges." this is typical by default when attempting to "view" another's Drop Box over a network. Have you tried transferring a file by dragging it into the others Drop Box?
In the Get Info did you click on the lock to enable you to change permissions?
If it is a network problem, are the computers in range of each other to create a wireless network? (New 17 and 24 iMacs, Wireless card?)
"All this may be a 10.4.9 problem"
Hard to say. My dealings with 10.4.9 can be read on this thread http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4271334#4271334 Forgive my antics, I was a bit steamed at the time

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

  • How do i set a peer to peer network between my iMac and windows machines?

I want to set up a peer to peer network between my iMac and Windows based computers in my house.  I also want it to a wireless set up.  Mostly being done to share videos, pictures, and music. Any insight would be appreciated.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to Wifi using internet sharing
    Why?
Just connect the MacBook to the same internet as your iMac.
    MacBook > Wi-Fi router > Internet.
You are connected to the internet with your iMac.
    iMac > Wi-Fi router > Internet
Why do you want to go MacBook (via Wi-Fi)  > iMac > Wi-Fi router > Internet?

Unfortunately, only adobe can help you with that, as most people here are just posters such as your self and don't work for adobe.
If you go here and use the Chat now button (bottom of page), they should get you up and running by resetting your activations.

  • I have two computers - iMac and PC.  What is the EARLIEST version of Acrobat I can run on each system.  I am running 10.9.2 on iMac and Windows 8 on PC.  Thanks.

I have two computers - iMac and PC.  What is the EARLIEST version of Acrobat I can run on each system.  I am running 10.9.2 on iMac and Windows 8 on PC.  Thanks.

Adobe currently supports Acrobat X and Acrobat XI for Mac and Windows platforms. More details about base system requirements can be found here: Tech specs | Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and the changes to these requirements with the product updates can be found here : Overview — Acrobat and Adobe Reader Release Notes. So the earliest version would be Acrobat X and the Latest would be Acrobat XI.

  • How do I maintain a single iTunes library for two separate iMac user accounts?

How do I maintain a single iTunes library for two separate iMac user accounts?...without having to manually do something every download?

Pardon me, I am brand new at using an iMac.  I understand the concept but I don't know exactly how to "move" the library.  I found a shared folder under users on the hard drive.  If I move it, won't I have to redirect each iTunes user to the new shared location?
If I point iTunes to anything other than the music folder under that user name, it shows as a "shared library".  Preferences still shows it as that users library, regardless of where the advanced gear button says it is pointing to.
Am I asking for too much to have each user control the exact same music files, apps and playlists?  I just want the two different itunes sessions to mirror each other without any frequent updating or copying.
We use the same id for itunes music and apps so we could just sync all devices under one iMac user id and not use it under hers.

  • I'm in the process of creating a WiFi network from my IMac to my LG HDTV.  I am incorporating a LG WiFi capable Blu-ray player and will purchase an Apple Express or Apple Extreme router. I need some advise on using this aquipment.

I need help in determining the best way to create a WiFi network from my IMAC to a WiFi capable LG Blu-Ray player that will connect to my LG HDTV.  Since I will only need one network I need to know which is the best Apple Airport router to use (Express or Extreme).  What is the correct way to connect these units?  It seem self explanitory, but I'm checking my thinking.  My HDTV is about 20' from where the airport router will be installed with a wall between them.  Has anyone created this network?  Is this the best way to create a WiFi network?

  • Networking two NI lookout servers with different windows OS

Can I networking two NI lookout servers with 50
I/O, one with windows98 SE and one with Withows XP pro.?

What's your lookout version on two computers? You need first to make two lookouts run, and then try to networking them. For example, if you run lookout 6.2 on windows 98, I'm not sure if it will work.

  • Accessing Citrix network with Intel iMac

Has anyone had any luck accessing a Citrix network with their Mac? I followed the directions provided by IT, downloaded the Citrix software, but cannot access the office network, which is Windows and PC-based. Will I have any more luck if I load Windows onto my iMac? Or will I just have to keep using my Dell laptop to access email at work? I telecommute 3 days a week so I need to be in touch with the office.

It works fine for me. In fact, I was just doing it a few minutes ago from home on my iMac. All the apps I use via Citrix are on a Windows 2008 server. What exactly happens when you try to access your Citrix network via your iMac?

  • Why did I have to enable Windows File Sharing to share files between two Mavericks iMacs?

File Sharing failed between my Mavericks iMacs.  The console logs showed that the target iMac saw the ntlmv2 protocol as unknown to the kdc.  I fixed it by enabling Windows File Sharing on the target Mavericks iMac.  I had tried disabling SMB on both iMacs and leaving AFP on, but then nothing happened when I tried to connect.  Why did I have to enable Windows File Sharing to share files between two Mavericks iMacs?

When you enable file sharing you need to have either SMB (Windows) or AFP (historically Apple-native) file sharing checked. The default in Mavericks is SMB, and not AFP.
If you uncheck both, then the system will turn off file sharing. Apple supports the use of both SMB and AFP connections in Mavericks, so with only AFP enabled you should have been able to establish a connection, but there could be a small bug or configuration-specific snafu that you're encountering.
With AFP enabled only, try pressing Command-K in the Finder to open the Connect To Server dialogue, and in here enter the address to the system using afp:// as the protocol, such as the following (the name can be looked up in the Sharing system preferences):
    afp://my_imac.local
