Networking - unable to connect a macbook w 10.9.2 to Windows 2003 network

Hello,
I've never had this issue on a Mac before.
The machine must run on a wireless network.
I enabled that, making sure it could ping internal and external IP addresses.
It gets an address via DHCP, can access external sites,  and can ping internal ones.
So, I went to join it to the intranet.
Despite specifying the preferred ADC (used "Active Directory method to try to connect), via IP address, every time I go to bind the machine to the network I receive this error:
"authentication server could not be contacted"
We don't use LDAP at this site.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Checking the Canon Australia web site the iR2016 lists UFR2 and PCL5e/PCL6 as supported print languages. Postscript was an option and given that the Generic PS did not work then it would be safe to assume that this option is not installed.
If you have installed the UFR2 v1.80 driver then you add this printer by selecting More Printers > Canon IP (UFR II). If you have installed the v2.xx driver then you simply select IP > LPD for the protocol. This then requires you to enter the IP address of the iR2016 and then you can browse for the iR2016 in the Print Using menu. However this is for a direct IP connection. You cannot use the UFR2 driver via the Windows share, which you mention trying.
So if the printer has its own Ethernet connection to the network then select to add the queue using IP > LPD, enter the IP address of the iR2016 and in the Print Using menu type 2016 to filter the list to the correct model. It should show UFRII in the name. Select this and you should be able to print.

My Macbook Pro running lion 10.7.2 is connected to my wifi network, which also has a PC, an hp photosmart and an hp laserjet connected to a server.
I have been able to set up printing from my mac to the photosmart by entering the ip address, although it can be tempremental.
The problem is that I cannot even find the HP Laserjet on the network at all and cannot link up to it to print.
    Any ideas??

Look in the printer manual for instructions.

  • How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network

How do i connect my MacBook Air to a Printer on my Wireless Network ? The printer is connected to a PC running Windows 7. That PC is connected to my Wireless Network. MacBook connects fine to Network, but can't find Printer.

    Hi Kappy,
Thanks for your response. I followed your instructions (for Mac OS 10.6.7). It seemed to set up OK, but when I tried to print I kept getting the following Failure Message "Session Setup failed : NT_Status_Invalid_Parameter".
When I get the "Advanced Window" should I enter anything into the "Location" field ? Maybe I am not entering the correct Workgroup, Server or Sharename ? Is there a way to make sure all of that is correct ? I went on to the computer that the printer is connected to and verified all of that, but am not sure I looked in the right places.
When I print via my Home Network from another Windows 7 Computer to the same PC, it works fine. I just can't get it to Print from my MacBook Air.
I thought of using the IP Address. How do I find the IP address of the Computer that is connected to the Printer ? Is it what they call the IPv4 Address, or the IPv4 Default Gateway ?
Appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi, It's a newly bought printer. I am unable to connect to the printer via Wireless Direct from Windows 8.1 64bit laptop. I have enabled the Wireless Direct with security on the Printer. Connected to the Printer SSID from my laptop wifi. Created the new printer from Driver software. It discovers the printer with it's name,IP etc; Upon selecting the printer and click on 'Next' button on the screen, results in a 5 min search process and finally displays that it could not connect. I have tried pinging the printer and it's able to pingf the IP of the printer successfully. I have even tried disabling the Norton antivirus, but result is the same. regards, sathwik

  • How to connect the Airport Extreme to Windows 2003 network?

    Hi there,
I recently bought an Airport Extreme. I plugged the wired cable to the Airport that previously was in my MacBookPro and gave me access to our Windows network.
What do you need to do in order to access the Windows 2003 network from the Airport Extreme?
Thank you very much in advance your help!

    Thanks Tesserax!
    for your support..
I changed it the way you told me..
it is very simple... and sounds very logic..
But after I did changed it in the correct IP address of the server
and I changed the IP address of the Internet Router (this was a must concerning the AP utility)
1> the internet was slown down..
2> the server was not reconisable by the iMac.. he gives the server a PC status ?!?!
3> the connection was poor and was not found in the AP network
very strange so I changed it to the old version
    is there really no option?
perhaps with the DHCP? or with the Internet router?
    FYI
    I have:
1: Internet/ connected with a HUAWEI router, recieved from my internet provider
2: connect the Huawei router with the AP Extreme Router
3: connect the AP Extreme router with the Server NAS
4: AP Extreme router is the basis.. and from there I do have an Apple Airport Network

  • Unable to connect my Macbook to a network printer

    Hi,
My problem is specific to Canon iR2016 printer model which is connected to a router which in turn is connected to a wireless router. I want to connect my macbook pro to this printer, which somehow I am not able to.
Till now I have gone to "Print & Fax", clicked on "+" sign, then clicked on the "Windows" tab. There I can see the network printer listed. I select it, then asks for software driver or printer model. Now here I select Printer model, but my model iR2016 is not listed. Then I select generic Post script printer and Add. The printer gets added, but when I print, nothing prints. I also tried with generic laser printer option, but no luck.
    Look forward to feedback.
    Thanks.

  • Extended AirPort Extreme Network Unable to Connect

I have two AirPort Extremes.  One was set up in the basement directly to my network and is working fine.  The other AirPort Extreme was set up upstairs, plugged into the same hub as the downstairs Extreme, and I followed the default setup procedure on my MacBook Pro to extend the downstairs wireless network via ethernet.  You can connect to the downstairs Extreme via wireless devices no problem, but when you move upstairs into the range of the Extreme on that level, you are unable to attach to the wireless network.  I can see the network, but when attempting to attach via the MacBook, the wireless indicator works for a while, then displays a "!" with no other message.  On an iPhone, you are not able to connect at all.
The setup procedure in Mac OS X is very straightforward, and I accepted all defaults in the AirPort Utility to extend the existing AirPort Extreme (downstairs) network.  There are no other wireless networks that may interfere.
The router in this home is a Luxul XBR-2300.  The AirPort Extremes are plugged into a switch that the router is also plugged in to.  Both AirPort Extremes have access to the network/internet-- if you plug a device directly to the AirPort Extreme it can get to the internet via the hardwired connection.
I've been working on this problem for two days, have returned one of the AirPort Extremes thinking it was defective, but I have the same problem.
I did the same type of setup in another home with two AirPorts and it was 'plug and play'.

Tesserax, thank you for the reply.  I have commented next to each suggestion.
If both AirPort Extreme base stations are interconnected by Ethernet they should be configured for a "roaming" network.  They are interconnected by Ethernet and are configured for a "roaming" network.
Setup both AirPort Extreme base stations as bridges. Network tab > Router Mode: Off (Bridge Mode).  This is how they are both set up.
    For each base station:
Connect to the same subnet of the Ethernet network.  They are on the same switch.  They are on the same subnet.
Provide a unique Base Station Name.  They have unique names.
The Network Name (SSID) should be identical.  They have the same SSID, exactly.
If using security, use the same security type (WEP, WPA, etc.) and password. Note: It is highly recommended that you use WPA2 Personal for best bandwidth performance.  They are both using WPA2.
Make sure that the channel is set at least three channels apart from the next base station to prevent Wi-Fi interference.  Initially the Apple AirPort Utility set both up under "Wireless" settings to "Automatic".  Based upon this suggestion, I set the Basement Extreme manually to the first channel choices for 2.4hz and 5.0hz networks.  I set the Upstairs Extreme manually to channels at least 3 channels away.  NO CHANGE to the problem.
The following are the basic setup steps:  I have done the following in an attempt to fix the problem, after changing the wireless channels on both units manually:
Power all the base stations down.  Done.
Perform a "factory default" reset on each of the base stations. Note: You may have to perform this more than once to make sure they "stick." Done.  Confirmed with rapidly flashing light on both.
Connect one Ethernet cable between the Ethernet switch to the (circle of dots) port on the basement Extreme. Connect a second Ethernet cable between the switch and the WAN port of the upstairs Extreme.
Basement Extreme:  Modem-->Router-->Switch-->Basement Extreme WAN Port
Upstairs Extreme:  Basement Extreme LAN Port-->Upstairs Extreme WAN Port  (Prior to this change they were both plugged in to the switch via the WAN port)
Power up just the basement Extreme. Done.
Set Network Mode option to: Create a wireless network. Done.  Set the Router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode). Done. Verify that you can get Internet connectivity with network clients either by wireless or by wire connections to the basement Extreme.  Verified-- can connect with no problems.  NOTE:  I set this up using the iPhone AirPort Utility using default settings to create a network.  I then verified these settings on the MacBook Pro in the AirPort Utility.  I manually set channels based upon your recommendation to set them to insure no interference, restarted, and verified that I can connect.
Power up the upstairs Extreme. Use the AirPort Utility to select it.  Done.  Verify that this unit has not been plugged in after reset until now.  NOTE:  It now shows in the AirPort Utility Network Diagram that the Basement AirPort Extreme is connected to the Internet, and the Upstairs Extreme is plugged into the Basement Extreme.  Before, both were shown connecting to the Internet.
Configure the upstairs Extreme with the Network Mode option set to: Create a wireless network. (Note: Do NOT set it to "Extend a wireless network."  Verified.  Was set up correctly by default.
Set the Wireless Network Name, Wireless Security, & Wireless Password options to be exactly the same as that used for the basement Extreme.  Verified.
Set the Router Mode to: Off (Bridge Mode).  Verified.  Was set up correctly by default.
Select Update and allow the upstairs Extreme to restart.  Extra Step:  Manually set the channel to be 3 away from Downstairs Extreme based on initial recommendation, above.  Restarted the Upstairs Extreme.
Once restarted verify that you can roam with a wireless laptop or iOS device between base stations and still gain Internet access.  Problem not solved.
I followed everything above exactly.  Neither my MacBook Pro nor my iPhone can connect to the "Apple Network" out of range of the Basement Extreme.  The network line connecting the Extremes is verified and is a good line.
Again, thank you for the very detailed response.  I had pretty much tried all of the above other than plugging the Upstairs Extreme WAN directly to the Basement Extreme LAN Port and manually setting channels on both.  Did I screw anything up based upon what you wrote?  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ken

  • Windows 2003 Network Shares Innaccessable

    Hi
We have a Windows 2003 R2 server housing half of our user profiles and some network shares.  Today, the network shares became inaccessible, causing crashes for our users.  Our other server remained unaffected.
We could ping the server and ping from the server and could still RDP.
The servers performance also appeared unaffected.
MOM and Event logs showed nothing.
We also use Active Directory 2003 and Symantec Anti-Virus 11.5 - Symantec logs showed nothing out of the ordinary either.
